Simulated Fault Injection Using Simulator Modification Technique

  • In the current very deep submicron technology era, fault tolerant mechanisms perform an essential function to cope with the effects of soft errors. To evaluate the effectiveness of the fault tolerant mechanism, reliability engineers use simulated fault injections using either saboteur modules or mutants in the simulation model. However, the two methods suffer from both inefficiency in the simulation mechanism and difficulties with the experimental setups. To overcome these inefficiencies, we propose the Verilog-based simulated fault injection (VFI) technique. VFI has the following advantages. First, modification of the design model is unnecessary. Second, the fault injection simulation procedure is simple and efficient. Third, various types of fault injection experiments can be performed. To evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed methodology, we developed a VFI environment using the ICARUS Verilog Simulator. From the experimental results, we were able to qualitatively evaluate the reliability of the target simulation models and to assess the effectiveness of the employed fault-tolerance mechanisms.

  • The electrical stress has a major effect on the long-term reliability of the thyristor. Therefore, it is needed to analyze the relationship between reliability and stress. In this paper, we investigate the device failure mechanism which induced by the stress. And also investigate the effect of the thermal stress on the device failure and relationship between electrical and thermal stress. Two-dimensional process simulator ATHENA and device simulator ATLAS are used to analyze the failure mechanism of the device.

전기철도용 실시각 급전시뮬레이터 제작 (Manufacture of Real-time Power Simulator for Electric Railway)

  • Recently, the high speed train was operated and then the train system's reliability requirements are growing more and more. The exact prediction simulation is necessary in the design of power feeding system by the increase of railway electrification. In order to develope the AC feeding system analysis technology, real-time power simulator was manufactured. It is composed to eight channels analog input, forty channels analog output and forty-eight channels digital I/O. The size of simulator rack is 19" and the two I/O boards are installed the PXI chassis built into the real time os. The signal I/O is possible through BNC connector. The test results of manufactured simulator are obtained that the error range of analog I/O signal is below 1 % and simulation condition is set to 1 ms and the simulation output of the analog output compares the results of the simulator.

계층적 배터리 관리 시스템 시뮬레이션 기술 개발 (Development of Simulator for Hierarchical Battery Management System)

  • In this research, we report on the development of simulation system for performance verification of BMS(Battery Management System) which is utilized in electric vehicles. In the industrial circles, a manufacturer of BMS typically tests their system with real battery packs. However, it takes a long time to test all functions of BMS. Here, we develop BMU(Battery Managament Unit) as an embedded board, which will be installed in electric vehicle for controlling battery packs. All other environment factors for testing BMU are developed in softwares in order to reduce the term of test. Especially, the proposed system consists of cell simulator and CMU(Cell Management Unit) simulator which simulate real battery cells and control battery cells. These simulators enable the BMU to test more battery cells. In addition, proposed system provides diagnosis program in order to diagnose and monitor the condition of BMS which makes the test of BMS more easily. In order to verify the performance of the developed simulator, we have performed the experiment with real battery packs and our simulator. Through comparing two results of experiments, we verify that developed simulator shows better performance in terms of less amount of testing duration though having high reliability.

  • 본 논문은 ITU가 추진 중인 4세대 이동통신 표준(IMT-Advanced) 이 향후 개정될 때에도 변경된 사항을 용이하게 반영 가능한 시뮬레이션 아키텍처를 새롭게 제시하고 이를 바탕으로 시뮬레이터를 구현하였다. 그리고 Winner+가 개발한 Matlab기반 시뮬레이터와 비교하여 신뢰성을 검증하였다. 아울러 4세대 이동통신 표준 평가 항목에 대해 모의실험을 통하여 결과 값을 얻고 이를 IEEE와 3GPP가 자체 실시한 평가결과 값과 비교하여 본 시뮬레이터의 우수성을 입증하였다.

A study on Applicability of VacCAD Simulator

  • In this study, we compared the VacCAD and VacSim(Multi), commercial vacuum simulators, to verify the advantages of VacCAD's efficiency. It was emphasized on immediacy and simplicity of simulation modelling, and characteristics of the pump combinations, pumping down curves, and vacuum materials. First, usability of simulation mechanism was estimated through the modeling schematics and obtained simulation results of each employed simulator were compared to evaluate the applicability in practice. Simulation reliability of each simulator was also probed by comparing the pumping characteristics of commercially available high vacuum systems. In addition, the degree of tolerances on VacCAD was also investigated through pumping down analysis considering outgassing effect due to chamber material variations. The higher effectiveness and expediency of VacCAD than VacSim(Multi) has been presented, and it was expected that the utilization of VacCAD in vacuum applications to be increased.

  • By using modeling and simulation. today's design engineers are simultaneously reducing time to market and decreasing the cost of development, while increasing the quality and reliability of their products. A driving simulator is the best example of this method and allows virtual designs of control systems, electronic systems, mechanical systems and hydraulic system of a vehicle to be evaluated before costly prototyping. The objective of this Paper is to develop the virtual Proving: ground using a driving simulator and to show its capabilities of an automotive system development tool. For this purpose, including a real-time vehicle dynamics analysis system, the PC-based driving simulator and the virtual proving ground are developed by using VR(Virtual Reality) techniques. Also ABS HIL(Hardware-In-the-Loop ) simulation is performed successfully.

Development of CPC/COLSS Simulation Model for YGN#3,4 Simulator

  • The safety and reliablity of nuclear power plant operations relies heavily on the plant operators ability to respond to various emergency situations. It has become standard industry practice to utilize simulators to improve the safety and reliability of nuclear power plants operations. The simulators built for Younggwang#3("YGN#3"), which is based on the Korean Standard Nuclear Power Plant ("KSNPP")design, has been developed precisely for this purpose. The YGN#3 simulator is the first simulator in Korea to be developed locally and is now operational on site. A particular attention was placed on the development of CPC/COLLS safety system which is unique to the YGN#3. The effort to develop CPC/COLLS simulation model has been successful and plans exist for applying this model to simulator projects in the future.jects in the future.

GNSS 전파교란 영향분석 시뮬레이터 구현 및 시험 (Implementation and Test of Simulator for Analyzing Effect of GNSS Jamming)

  • As a dependency on Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) becomes increase in various applications, its reliability has been very important. However, in South Korea, Global Positioning System (GPS) jamming incident happened four times since 2010. GNSS signal is so weak that it is highly susceptible to all types of the jamming. GNSS jamming can cause serious damage in the safety-critical applications based on the GNSS. In this paper, we present the GNSS jamming signal propagation prediction simulator based on ITU-R P.1546 model. This simulator is developed for preventing or reducing the damage from the GNSS jamming attack by predicting the jamming propagation strength based on the geographical information in Korean peninsula.

  • KEPRI successfully developed and installed RTDS(Real-Time Digital Simulator) during March 2001. The simulator will be used to study interactive simulation of electromagnetic & electromechanical and validation of protective & control systems. In this paper. the authors will present an overview of real-time digital simulator and its characteristic features. Special emphasis will be placed to the installation test results. This paper also addresses some key issues on the accuracy, reliability flexibility and its practical uses for real-time power simulation.
