Optimization of Emulsification and Spray Drying Process for the Microencapsulation of Flavor Compounds (향기성분 미세캡슐화를 위한 유화 및 분무건조 공정 최적화)

  • This study was conducted to optimize the emulsion process and the spray drying process for the microencapsulation of flavor compounds. Using the wall system selected, emulsion process for microencapsulation was optimized on the change of the pressure of piston-type homogenizer. Emulsification pressure of 34.5 MPa was found to be the most suitable for preparing flavor emulsion. Effects of drying temperature and atomizer speed of the spray drier on total oil, surface oil, and flavor release of the flavor powder were investigated using response surface methodology. The optimum spray drying conditions for minimal surface oil and flavor release and maximum total oil were $170{\circ}C$ inlet temperature and 15,000 rpm atomizer speed. The spray-dried powder processed with the highest drying temperature showed spherically-shaped particles with smooth surface.

Studies on the Development for Sustained Release Preparation (II):Preparation and Evaluation of Eudragit Microcapsules of Sodium Naproxen

  • The microencapsulation of sodium naproxen with Eudragit. RS was studied by coacrtvation/phase separation process using Span 80 in mineral oil/acetone system. Various factors which affect the mciroencapsulation, e.g., stirring speed, and surfactant concentraction, Eudagit RS concentration and loading drug amounts were examined. For the evaluation of the prepared microcapsules, release rate, particle size distribution and surface appearance as well as in vivo test were carried out. The addition of n-hexane and freezing of microcapsules accelerated the hardening of microcapsules. The optimum concentration of Span 80 ti prepare the smallest microcapsules was the same value with the CMC of Span 80 in solvent system. When 1.5% (w/w) Span 80 was used, the smallest microcapsules were formed $(30.02\pm5.05\mu$ in diameter) belonging to the powder category showing smooth, round and uniform surface. The release of sodium naproxen was retarded by microencapsulation with Eudragit RS. The Eudragit RS microcapsules showed significantly increased AUC and MRT and deceased Cl/F in rabbits.

Parameters Affecting the Consequences of the Unconfined Vapor Cloud Explosion Accident by the Release of Heavy Gas (무거운 가스의 누출에 의한 개방공간 증기운 폭발사고에서 사고결과에 미치는 매개변수의 영향)

  • This paper analyses the effect of parameters on the consequences of the unconfined vapor cloud explosion accident (UVCE) by the release of heavy gas (xylene vapor). Simulation results showed that the overpresure was increased with the increase of the release hole diameter and with the decrease of the interested distance and the wind speed. While, the overpresure was not nearly affected by the release height, weather and environmental conditions. From the results of the consequence analysis and analysis of affecting the consequences of UVCE, the emergency plan should be established taking into account these parameters.

Effects of Emulsified Fuel on Combustion Characteristics in a Diesel Engine (디젤기관에 있어서 에멀젼연료 연소특성에 미치는 영향)

  • A study on combustion characteristics using emulsified fuel in a diesel engine were performed experimentally. In this paper, the experiments were performed at engine speed 1800rpm, emulsion ratios were 0%, 10%, 20%, and main measured items were specific fuel consumption, cylinder pressure, rate of pressure rise, rate of heat release etc. The obtained conclusions were as follows. 1) Specific fuel consumption increased maximum by 19.8% at low load, but was not affected at full load. 2) Rate of pressure rise and rate of heat release were about the same in the case of 10% and 20% of emulsion ratio. 3) Cylinder Pressure increased 9.6%, rate of pressure rise increased 53.4% in case of emulsion ratio 20% at full load. 4) Rate of heat release increased 72.4% in case of emulsion ratio 20% at full load.

Impacts of anthropogenic heating on urban boundary layer in the Gyeong-In region (인공열이 도시경계층에 미치는 영향 - 경인지역을 중심으로 -)

  • This study investigates the influence of anthropogenic heat (AH) release on urban boundary layer in the Gyeong-In region using the Weather Research and Forecasting model that includes the Seoul National University Urban Canopy Model (SNUUCM). The gridded AH emission data, which is estimated in the Gyeong-In region in 2002 based on the energy consumption statistics data, are implemented into the SNUUCM. The simulated air temperature and wind speed show good agreement with the observed ones particularly in terms of phase for 11 urban sites, but they are overestimated in the nighttime. It is found that the influence of AH release on air temperature is larger in the nighttime than in the daytime even though the AH intensity is larger in the daytime. As compared with the results with AH release and without AH release, the contribution of AH release on urban heat island intensity is large in the nighttime and in the morning. As the AH intensity increases, the water vapor mixing ratio decreases in the daytime but increases in the nighttime. The atmospheric boundary layer height increases greatly in the morning (0800 - 1100 LST) and midnight (0000 LST). These results indicate that AH release can have an impact on weather and air quality in urban areas.

  • Th effects of exhaust gas recirculation(EGR) on the characteristics of combustion exhaust emissions and specific fuel consumption(SFC) are experimentally investigated by four-cylin-der four-cycle and direct injection marine diesel engine. In order to reduce soot contents in the recirculated exhaust gas to intake system of the engines a novel diesel soot removal system with a cylinder-type scrubber which has water injector(4 nozzles in 1.0mm diameter)is specially designed and manufactured for the experi-mental system. The obtained results are as follows; The combustion pressure in cylinder is decreased and ignition is delayed with increasing EGR rate. The accumulated quantity of heat release is slightly decreased and the tendency of heat release rate is not constant. NOx and Soot emissions are decreased by maximum 7% and 540% with scrubber tan without scrubber in the range of experimental conditions. Those are increased at the lean burn area with increasing equivalence ration in the constant value of engine speed and EGR rate. Also those are decreased with increasing EGR rate in the constant value of engine speed and equivalence ratio.

A Numerical Analysis on Combustion Characteristics of the Gasoline Engine using Methanol Reformulated Fuels under WOT Condition (전부하 운전조건에서 메탄올 개질연료를 사용한 가솔린 엔진의 연소특성에 대한 수치해석)

  • This research is to decide the possibility of using RM50(reformulated methanol fuel) without any modification of engine by the method of numerical analysis. Comparing the heat release rate, the difference among each fuel was decreased according to the increase of the engine speed, and the maximum heat release rate was higher in the order of RM50 and gasoline fuel. Also, this order corresponds to the order of burning speed. RM50 had the higher turbulent burning speed, and the curve of turbulent intensity was showed similar tendency to the curve of turbulent burning speed. RM50 had relatively high burning speed, short quenching length, high temperature in cylinder, so that it might increase NO emission, but owing to chemical reaction dynamics, it was decreased NO emission. Therefore, in order to predict the possibility of using RM50, it is needed to consider not only the temperature in cylinder by low heating value, but also combustion characteristics including burning speed.

A Study on the Damaging Distance and the Explosion Effect by the LPG Release (LPG 누출시 피해거리 및 폭발영향에 관한 연구)

  • The release of gas from the LPG storage tank by the rupture or leakage can occure explosion and this causes serious damage to people and structures. In this study, the explosion effect and damaging distance were measured for the LPG cloud explosion to perform the quantitative risk assessment for the PSM, and the effective parameters on the explosion were found. The gas dispersion and mass contaminant in the explosion limits were calculated by using DEGADIS, and it was converted to TNT equivalency and damaging distance. As a result, the wind speed was the most effective parameter on the diffusion rate and TNT equivalency, and the damaging distance were increased with decrease of wind speed and surface roughness.

  • This paper proposes a new method to investigate combustion phenomena using the variation of crankshaft speed, From the idea that the variation of crankshaft speed contains the information of combustion, the energy method is applied as a single degree of freedom. Through the comparison of measured and calculated crankshaft speed, the proposed energy model is proved to be effective. When the crankshaft speed is used in the energy equation, filtering of the speed is required. The frequency components of cylinder pressure are analyzed and the coefficients of Fourier series above the twelfth frequency of engine speed are considered as a noise. As an example of application of this research, some combustion analyses like mean effective pressure, heat release rate, and misfire detection were carried out.

Preparation and Evaluation of Bupivacaine Microspheres by a Solvent Evaporation Method (용매증발법에 의한 부피바카인 microsphere의 제조 및 평가)

  • Various bupivacaine-loaded microspheres were prepared from poly (d,l-lactide) (PLA) or poly (d,l-lactic-co-glycolide) (PLGA) by a solvent evaporation method for the sustained release of drug. PLA and PLGA microspheres were prepared by w/o/w and w/o/o multiple emulsion solvent evaporation, respectively. The effects of process conditions such as emulsification speed, emulsifier type, emulsifier concentration and internal/external phase ratio on the characteristics of microspheres were investigated. The prepared microspheres were characterized for their drug loading, size distribution, surface morphology and release kinetics. Drug loading efficiency was higher in the microspheres prepared by w/o/o multiple emulsion than that by w/o/w multiple emulsion method, because the solubility of bupivacaine HCI was decreased in oil phase compared with water phase. The prepared microspheres had an average diameter between 1 and $2\;{\mu}M$ in all conditions of two methods. In morphology studies the PLA microspheres showed an irregular shape and smooth surface, but PLGA microspheres had a spherical shape and smooth surface. The release pattern of the drug from microspheres was evaluated on the basis of the burst effect and the extent of the release after 24h. The in vitro release of bupivacaine HCl from microspheres showed a large initial burst release and $60{\sim}80%$ release within one day in all conditions of two methods. The extents of the burst release against PLA and PLGA microspheres were $30{\sim}50%$ and $50{\sim}80%$ within 20min, respectively. This burst release seems to be due to the smaller size of microspheres and the solubility of drug in water.
