  • It has been demonstrated that choosing an appropriate relay node can improve the transmission rate for the system. However, such system improvement brought by the relay selection may be degraded with the presence of the malicious relay nodes, which are selected but refuse to cooperate for transmissions deliberately. In this paper, we formulate the relay selection issue as a restless bandit problem with the objective to maximize the average rate, while considering the credibility of each relay node, which may be different at each time instant. Then the optimization problem is solved by using the priority-index heuristic method effectively. Furthermore, a low complexity algorithm is offered in order to facilitate the practical implementations. Simulation results are conducted to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed trust-based relay selection scheme.

  • Broadcasting nature of wireless communications makes it possible to apply opportunistic network coding (OPNC) by overhearing transmitted packets from a source to sink nodes. However, it is difficult to apply network coding to the topology of multiple relay and sink nodes. We propose to use relay node selection, which finds a proper node for network coding since the OPNC alone in the topology of multiple relays and sink nodes cannot guarantee network coding gain. The proposed system is a novel combination of wireless network coding and relay selection, which is a key contribution of this paper. In this paper, with the consideration of channel state and potential network coding gain, we propose relay node selection techniques, and show performance gain over the conventional OPNC and a channel-based selection algorithm in terms of average system throughput.

  • In this paper, we proposed the relay node selection scheme using property of node such as velocity, direction in Delay Tolerant Networks. the existing selection scheme is caused the problem increasing the transmission delay and packet loss, if select the relay node for different mobile with destination. To overcome this problem, we proposed the relay node selection scheme using the property of mobile node. the proposed scheme represents and shares the property of mobile node. The proposed algorithm assumed the sketchy position of node from mobile node delivering property of destination. In addition, the propose algorithm recognizes and analyzes the context of mobile node to provide the relay node transferring the data efficiently. The simulation result provides the better result in terms of transmission delay and packet delivery ratio by selecting transmission by relay node according property of node.

  • In this paper, a joint destination-relay selection and antenna mode selection scheme for full-duplex (FD) relay network is investigated, which consists of one source node, N FD amplify-and-forward (AF) relays and M destination nodes. Multiple antennas are configured at the source node, and beamforming technique is adopted. Two antennas are employed at each relay, one for receiving and the other for transmitting. Only one antenna is equipped at each destination node. In the proposed scheme, the best destination node is firstly selected according to the direct links between the source node and destination nodes. Then the transmit and receive mode of two antennas at each relay is adaptively selected based on the relaying link condition. Meanwhile, the best relay with the optimal Tx/Rx antenna configuration is selected to forward the signals. To characterize the performance of the proposed scheme, the closed-form expression of the outage probability is derived; meanwhile, the simple asymptotic expressions are also obtained. Our analysis shows that the proposed scheme obtains the benefits of multi-relay diversity and multi-destination diversity. Moreover, extra space diversity in the medium SNR region can be achieved due to the antenna selection at the relay. Finally, Monte-Carlo simulations are provided to consolidate the analytical results, and show the effectiveness of the proposed scheme.

  • As the number of mobile devices such as smart phones and tablets explodes, the need for new services or applications is also rapidly increasing. Smart class application is one of the emerging applications, in which most of contents are distributed to all members of a class simultaneously. It is highly required to select relay nodes to cover shadow area of radio as well as extend coverage, but existing algorithms in a smart class environment suffer from high control packet overhead and delay for exchanging topology information among all pairs of nodes to select relay nodes. In addition, the relay selection procedure should be repeated in order to adapt to the dynamic topology changes caused by link status changes or device's movement. This paper proposes the learning based relay selection algorithm to overcome aforementioned problems. The key idea is that every node keeps track of its relay quality in a fully distributed manner, where RQI (Relay Quality Indicator) is newly defined to measure both the ability of receiving packets from content source and the ability of successfully relaying them to successors. The RQI of each node is updated whenever it receives or relays broadcast packet, and the node having the higher RQI is selected as a relay node in a distributed and run-time manner. Thus, the proposed algorithm not only removes the overhead for obtaining prior knowledge to select relay nodes, but also provides the adaptability to the dynamic topology changes. The network simulation and experimental results prove that the proposed algorithm provides efficient and reliable content distribution to all members in a smart class as well adaptability against network dynamics.

  • Multi-hop cellular networks (MCNs), which reduce the transmit power, mitigate the inter-cell interference, and improve the system performance, have been widely studied nowadays. The relay selection scheme is a key technique that achieves these advantages, and inappropriate relay selection causes frequent relay switchings, which deteriorates the overall performance. In this study, we analyze the conditions for relay switching in MCNs and obtain the expressions for the relay switching rate and relay activation time. Two mobile-based relay selection schemes are proposed on the basis of this analysis. These schemes select the relay node with the longest relay activation time and minimal relay switching rate through mobility prediction of the mobile node requiring relay and available relay nodes. We compare the system performances via simulation and analyze the impact of various parameters on the system performance. The results show that the two proposed schemes can obtain a lower relay switching rate and longer relay activation time when there is no reduction in the system throughput as compared with the existing schemes.

  • Based on the performance of a cooperative diversity with selection combining in Rayleigh fading, the power control range of a relay node is investigated. Also the effect of the power-limited relay node to the system performance is investigated. If the average signal-to-noise ratio(SNR) of each signal path is equal, the single relay cooperative diversity is obtained 13.5dB gain at the outage probability of $1{\times}10^{-3}$ in Rayleigh fading. We noticed that the limited power of a relay node severely degrades the system performance. Therefore the node with limited power in ad-hoc network is not recommended as a relay node in cooperative diversity system.

  • In this paper, we consider an amplifying-and-forward(AF) dual-hop relaying system where the source node transmits to a destination node with the help of R relay nodes. We assume that the source node equips M transmit antennas, but only one antenna is equipped at the each node of relay and destination. The outage probabilities are presented when the transmit maximum-ratio-combining(MRC) is used at the source-relay(S-R) links, and the best relay selection, which selects only one relay that contributes the most to the received signal-to-noise ratio(SNR) as active relay, is combined. Simulation results validate these analytical results.

  • In the wireless sensor network, cooperative transmission is an effective technique to combat multi-path fading and reduce transmitted power. Relay selection and power allocation are important technical issues to determine the performance of cooperative transmission. In this paper, we proposed a new multi-relay selection and power allocation algorithm to increase network lifetime. The proposed relay selection scheme minimizes the transmitted power and increase the network lifetime by considering residual power as well as channel conditions. Simulation results show that proposed algorithm obtains much longer network lifetime than the conventional algorithm.

  • In this paper, we investigate the secrecy outage probability when using a partial relay selection scheme in cooperative communication systems based on decode-and-forward with multi-relay. It is assumed that both the receiving node and the eavesdropping node receive signals at both the transmitting node and the relaying node. The two received signals are used to obtain the diversity gain using the MRC scheme. In this paper, we compute the theoretical formula of secrecy outage probability and compare the theoretical value with the simulation value to prove that equation is valid. The simulation results show how the secrecy outage probability varies with the number of relays.
