Energy-efficient Buffer-aided Optimal Relay Selection Scheme with Power Adaptation and Inter-relay Interference Cancellation

  • Considering the tradeoff between energy consumption and outage behavior in buffer-aided relay selection, a novel energy-efficient buffer-aided optimal relay selection scheme with power adaptation and Inter-Relay Interference (IRI) cancellation is proposed. In the proposed scheme, energy consumption minimization is the objective with the consideration of relay buffer state, outage probability and relay power control, in order to eliminate IRI. The proposed scheme selects a pair of optimal relays from multiple candidate relays, denoted as optimal receive relay and optimal transmit relay respectively. Source-relay and relay-destination communications can be performed within a time-slot, which performs as Full-Duplex (FD) relaying. Markov chain model is applied to analyze the evolution of relay buffer states. System steady state outage probability and achievable diversity order are derived respectively. In addition, packet transmission delay and power reduction performance are investigated with a specific analysis. Numerical results show that the proposed scheme outperforms other relay selection schemes in terms of outage behavior with power adaptation and IRI cancellation in the same relay number and buffer size scenario. Compared with Buffer State relay selection method, the proposed scheme reduces transmission delay significantly with the same amount of relays. Average transmit power reduction can be implemented to relays with the increasing of relay number and buffer size, which realizes the tradeoff between energy-efficiency, outage behavior and delay performance in green cooperative communications.

  • 본 논문에서는 OFDMA 기반 relay 시스템에서 사용자에게 VoIP 서비스를 제공할 경우, relay station (RS)의 capability에 따른 시스템의 성능 차이를 분석하였다. Relay 시스템은, relay의 스케줄링 수행 여부에 따라 mid-capability (MC)와 high-capability (HC) relay를 적용한 시스템으로 구분할 수 있다. HC relay를 적용한 시스템의 경우, base station (BS) 뿐만 아니라 RS도 직접 스케줄링을 수행한다. 반면에 MC relay를 적용한 시스템의 경우, 각 RS로부터 mobile station (MS) 들의 수신 SINR, 발생 traffic양 등의 정보를 BS에서 수집하여, BS가 단독으로 스케줄링을 수행한다. 이 경우 MS의 정보 수집 및 RS로의 스케줄링 정보 전달을 위해 control 오버헤드는 커지지만, BS가 모든 MS에 대한 정보를 알고 있으므로 효율적인 자원 할당 및 스케줄링이 가능하다. 따라서 RS의 capability에 따라 전체 시스템의 성능이 달라질 수 있고, 이에 대한 분석이 필요하다. 본 논문에서는 모의 실험을 통해 VoIP traffic 환경에서 RS의 capability에 따른 평균 packet delay, good packet ratio, cell goodput 등을 도출하였다. 선정한 VoIP 성능 지표에 의하면, MC relay를 적용한 시스템이 HC relay를 적용한 시스템에 비해 성능이 우수함을 확인하였다.

  • The market of domestic Power Plant Generator Protection and Control System (GPCS) is narrow and required the high reliability, and technology. So, it is still operated as turn-key. In recent years, digital relays has evolved into IED can perform the control and monitoring functions without central monitoring based on IEC61850 international standards communications, and attention for advancement of smart grid and ECMS has been increased in South Korea. The increasing attention on multi-function IED, DGPS(digital generator protection system), for internal fault protection of large generator results in starting a national project in South Korea, the IED prototype development for next-generation power units. The voltage restrained overcurrent relay have been used as back-up overcurrent protection for generators. In this paper, voltage restrained overcurrent relay is one of the back-up protective factors in generator protection IED was presented. For evaluation performance of the voltage restrained overcurrent relay, the data of ATPDraw5.7p4 modeling was used.

미디어 버퍼 제어를 이용한 효율적인 무선 네트워크 스트리밍 중계 엔진 개발 (Development of an Efficient Media Streaming Relay Engine Using Buffer Control in Wireless Networks)

  • 최근 모바일 스마트 기기의 급격한 보급과 확산으로 인해 모바일 스마트 기기 간의 멀티미디어 콘텐츠 공유 기술이 확산되고 있다. 이를 위해 계층적으로 구성된 이종 무선 네트워크 상에서 멀티미디어 스트리밍 중계 시 중계 기기와 다수의 멤버 기기들 간의 과도한 네트워크 자원 경쟁으로 인해 재생 화면 정지 문제가 발생한다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 문제를 해결하기 위해 중계 기기와 멤버 기기의 스트림 데이터 버퍼링을 제어함으로써 과도한 네트워크 점유를 방지하고 버퍼 고갈로 인한 재생 화면 정지 문제를 개선하는 스트리밍 중계 기법을 제안한다. 또한 제안한 중계 기법을 적용한 스트리밍 중계 엔진을 설계하고 구현한다. 제안한 중계 기법의 성능 평가를 위해 스트리밍 중계 시의 화면 정지 횟수와 정지 시간을 측정하여 기존의 중계 엔진과 비교한다. 성능 측정 결과, 본 논문에서 제안하는 미디어 버퍼 제어를 이용한 중계 엔진이 기존의 중계 엔진보다 더 적은 화면 정지 횟수와 정지 시간을 보였으며 이를 통해 멀티미디어 스트리밍 품질을 향상시킬 수 있다.

  • An auto-tuning PID controller which is adequate for temperature control is developed based on relay-control and pole-placement Using the critical frequency which is obtained from relay-control parameters of assumed model are identified. Pole/zero-placement PID controller is designed for the identified model. The desired pole/zeros are determined so that the closed-loop has overshoot free step response. The developed auto-tuning PID controller was successfully applied to the temperature control of RTP.

  • This paper discusses the operation zone of distance relay on transmission line connected unified power flow controller(UPFC). Depending on operating conditions of UPFC, the trip characteristics of distance relay is influenced by the prefault conditions. In this paper, apparent impedance of distance relay influenced by the UPFC control of distance is calculated.

  • An adaptive power control scheme is proposed for the cognitive relay networks with joint overlay and underlay spectrum sharing model. The transmit power of the secondary user is adjusted adaptively according to the spectrum sensing results and the interference channel condition. The outage probability of the secondary user is compared by Monte - Carlo simulations between the fixed power control scheme and pure overlay or underlay spectrum sharing schemes. The results show that, by employing the adaptive power control strategy, the interference probability of the secondary user to the primary user is decreased by 70 % ~ 80 % under the same outage probability. Also, the outage probability of the secondary user is reduced by 1 ~ 2 orders of magnitude under the same interference probability. Thus, the performance of the spectrum sharing is improved effectively.

Energy-efficient Relay MAC with Dynamic Power Control in Wireless Body Area Networks

  • Wireless body area network (WBAN) is an emerging short-range wireless communication network with sensor nodes located on, in or around the human body for healthcare, entertainment and ubiquitous computing. In WBANs, energy is severely constrained which is the prime consideration in the medium access control (MAC) protocol design. In this paper, we propose a novel MAC protocol named Energy-efficient Relay MAC with dynamic Power Control (ERPC-MAC) to save energy consumption. Without relying on the additional devices, ERPC-MAC employs relaying nodes to provide relay service for nodes which consume energy fast. Accordingly the superframe adjustment is performed and then the network topology can be smoothly switched from single-hop to multi-hop. Moreover, for further energy saving and reliability improvement, the dynamic power control is introduced to adjust the power level whenever a node transmits its packets to the coordinator or the relaying node. To the best of the authors' knowledge, this is the first effort to integrate relay, topology adjustment and power control to improve the network performance in a WBAN. Comprehensive simulations are conducted to evaluate the performance. The results show that the ERPC-MAC is more superior to the existing standard and significantly prolongs the network lifetime.

Secure Beamforming with Artificial Noise for Two-way Relay Networks

  • This paper studies the problem of secure information exchange between two sources via multiple relays in the presence of an eavesdropper. To this end, we propose a relay beamforming scheme, i.e., relay beamforming with artificial noise (RBwA), where the relay beamforming vector and the artificial noise vector are jointly designed to maintain the received signal-to-interference-ratio (SINR) at the two sources over a predefined Quality of Service (QoS) threshold while limiting the received SINR at the eavesdropper under a predefined secure threshold. For comparison, the relay beamforming without artificial noise (RBoA) is also considered. We formulate two optimization problems for the two schemes, where our goal is to seek the optimal beamforming vector to minimize the total power consumed by relay nodes such that the secrecy of the information exchange between the two sources can be protected. Since both optimization problems are nonconvex, we solve them by semidefinite program (SDP) relaxation theory. Simulation results show that, via beamforming design, physical layer secrecy of two-way relay networks can be greatly improved and our proposed RBwA outperforms the RBoA in terms of both low power consumption and low infeasibility rate.
