  • In this paper, a distributed mobile relay power control (DMRPC) scheme for maximizing individual cell throughput is proposed for mobile relay aided multi-cell orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM)-time division duplex (TDD) system. In the system with DMRPC, the power levels of relay's are controlled by individual cell without cell cooperation and signalling overhead. It is demonstrated by numerical simulation that DMRPC provides the better cell throughput performance than either the full power relay aided system or conventional system without relay does. Moreover, it is also shown that relay aided systems with DMRPC, and the conventional system have almost identical cell edge throughput, while full power relay aided systems show worse performance in cell edge throughput.

  • In this paper, we propose a partial full duplex relay scheme for 3GPP (3rd Generation Partnership Project) LTE (Long Term Evolution)-Advanced system using a Type 1 relay. The Type 1 relay as inband relay is prohibited to transmit and receive simultaneously because of self-interference. Therefore, the Type 1 relay cannot receive synchronization signals which are transmitted to eNB. To overcoming this problem, we propose the partial full duplex relay scheme which transmits to R-UE (Relay-User Equipment) and receives from eNB (evolved NodeB) simultaneously when eNB and the Type 1 relay transmit subframes which have synchronization signals. Additionally, for solving self-interference, the Type 1 relay transmitter and receiver antennas are sufficiently sufficiently isolated and self-interference cancellation is applied for the self-interference signal from the relay transmitter. Thus, the partial full duplex relay scheme can receive synchronization signals from eNB and solve the problems of conventional solutions and we propose the partial channel estimation scheme for partial full duplex relay scheme using SCI. By extensive computer simulation, we verify that the partial full duplex relay scheme is attractive and suitable for the Type 1 relay system.

  • Cooperative diversity system can be applied to an ad-hoc network for reduction of the power consumption, for expansion of the communication range, and for improving the system performance. In a selection relay cooperative diversity system which selects the maximal SNR(Signal-to-noise ratio) relay for transmitting the source information, the selected strong relay transmits continuously under slow fading channel, consequently it reduces the network lifetime. To overcome this defect, recently the uniform power relay selection has been studied to expand the network life time. We apply the uniform power relay selection to a DOT(Double opportunistic transmit) cooperative system that select the transmit relays, of which the SNR of the transmit relays exceed both of the source-relay and the relay-destination threshold. And the performance of the system is analytically derived. The performance comparisons are made among SC(Selection combining), MRC(Maximal ratio combining), and uniform power relay selection of the cooperative diversity system. We noticed that the performance of the uniform power relay selection is inferior to that of others. It is interpreted that the uniform transmit opportunity to the selected relays for extension of the network lifetime degrades the performance.

  • Relay-assisted multiple input technique has become a promising candidate for next generation broadband wireless communications. In this paper, we propose channel selective relay-based multiple input transmission system. In the proposed system, single carrier frequency division multiple access (SC-FDMA) and orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) are adopted for uplink and downlink transmissions, respectively. The performance of relay-based system can be improved by using the subcarriers selectively based on the channel condition between relay station (RS) and mobile station, or between RS and base station. Simulation results show that the proposed relay-based system considerably outperforms the conventional relay-based system.

  • Digital technology has advanced significantly over the years both in terms of software tools and hardware availability. It is now applied extensively throughout many area of electrical engineering including protective relaying in power systems. Digital relays have numerous advantages over traditional analog relays, such as the ability to accomplish what is difficult or impossible using analog relays. Although non real-time simulators like PSCAD/EMTDC are employed to test the algorithms, such simulations are disadvantaged in that they cannot test the relay dynamically. Hence, real-time simulators like RTDS are used. However, the latter requires large space and is very expensive. This paper uses EMTP MODELS to simulate the power system and the distance relay. The distance relay algorithm is implemented and the distance relay is interfaced with a test power system. The distance relay's performance is then assessed interactively under various fault types, fault distances and fault inception angles. The test results show that we can simulate the distance relay effectively and we can examine the operation of the distance relay very closely including its drawbacks/limitations by using EMTP MODELS. Equally important, this approach facilitates any changes that need to be carried out in order to enhance the Distance Relay under test/examination.

  • In this letter, non-regenerative Amplify-and-Forward (AF) relay systems based on half and full duplex schemes are investigated and their performance is analyzed and compared in terms of outage probability. Although the AF relay systems have been widely investigated in many previous literatures, most of them adopted a half duplex scheme due to hardware limitation and mathematical tractability. To the best of our knowledge, this letter is the first study to investigate the performance of the full duplex AF relay system considering practical hardware limitations. In full duplex AF relay systems, it is important to secure the isolation between transmit and receive antennas. Our numerical and simulation results show that there exists a threshold point of the isolation gain that the full duplex relay system outperforms the half duplex relay system.

  • For protection of power system, it is a prerequisite to action characteristics of protective relay about a changing environment in power system and correcting the setting value. A substation operator always reside to correct of a relay, however there are problem of efficiency. Recently, power system operation become manless and supervision and control of incident is required anywhere, introduction of new concept as a intellectual manless protective relay is a recent trend. This paper is the web-based protective relay setting program that a manager make an analysis of operation and incident of power system through the web at a remote place corresponding recent manless of system and approach the protection relay and then can correct the error.

  • We propose a new relay system which use echo cancellation in relay station. In the proposed relay system, a half of time resource is required to transmit a symbol compared to conventional relay system. We show the echo cancellation method and frame structure of the proposed system. Simulation result shows that the proposed system has twice capacity than that of the conventional system.

  • Decode-and-forward relaying is a promising enhancement to existing radio access networks and is already standardized in 3rd generation partnership project (3GPP) as a part of long term evolution (LTE)-Advanced Release 10. Two inband operation modes of relay nodes are supported, namely type 1 and type lb. Relay nodes promise to offer considerable gain for system capacity or coverage, depending on the deployment prioritization, in a cost-efficient way. Yet, in order to fully exploit the benefits of relaying, the inter-cell interference which is increased due to the presence of relay nodes should be limited. Moreover, large differences in the received power levels from different users should be avoided. The goal is to keep the receiver dynamic range low in order to retain the orthogonality of the single carrier-frequency division multiple access system. In this paper, an evaluation of the relay based heterogeneous deployment within the LTE-Advanced uplink framework is carried out by applying the standardized LTE Release 8 power control scheme both at evolved node B and relay nodes. In order to enhance the overall system performance, different power control optimization strategies are proposed for 3GPP urban and suburban scenarios. A comparison between type 1 and type 1b relay nodes is as well presented to study the effect of the relaying overhead on the system performance in inband relay deployments. Comprehensive system level simulations show that the power control is a crucial means to increase the cell edge and system capacities, to mitigate inter-cell interference and to adjust the receiver dynamic range for both relay node types.
