The aim of this study was carried out to investigate the protective effect of Rhizoma Dioscoreae on the gastric mucosal lesions induced by alcohol in rats. Experimental groups were treated by oral infusion with Rhizoma Dioscoreae extract at the dose of 0.03465 g/ml(OA-RD1 group), 0.0693 g/ml(OA-RD2 group), and 0.1386 g/ml(OA-RD3 group), while D.W group was administrated with the distilled water and control group did not pretreated. Experimental groups pretreated for 14 days, and given orally 1 ml of 75% alcohol two times(30min interval). The animals were killed 1hr 30min after alcohol treatment, and measured rats body weight, absolute stomach weight, relative stomach weight, SOD activity, glutathione peroxidase(GPx) activity, observed gastric mucosal lesions. The body weight was unremarkable changed. In once as dose intake group's absolute stomach weight was increased and In once as dose intake group, twice as dose intake group's relative stomach weight was increased. SOD activity, glutathione peroxidase activity in twice as dose intake group is remarkably increased. Light microscopy Observations of congestion, hemorrhage, and erosion in gastric mucosal lesions were shown severely in control group than OA-RD1, OA-RD2, OA-RD3. These results suggest that the proposed gastroprotective effect may involve activation of antioxidant effect. And Twice as dose is especially effective.
The purpose of this study was to compare the effects of different exercise types including isokinetic, isometric, and istonic exercise of same exercise intensity on cardiopulmonary function and blood lactate level. The subjects of this study included 17 males college students. Each subjects after pretraining measurement performed isokinetic, isometric and isotonic exercise of 1 week interval using Cybex 6000 System. KBI-C and YSI 1500 were used to measure changes in cardiopulmonary function and blood lactate level respectively. First, comparing changes in RPP relative to exercise type, isokinetic group showed significant difference between before exercise ($7.08{\pm}1.12mg/kg/min$) and post exercise ($18.98{\pm}1.75mg/kg/min$). Isometric group showed that significant difference between before exercise($7.89{\pm}0.98mg/kg/min$) and post exercise($20.22{\pm}2.41mg/kg/min$). Isotonic group showed significant difference between before exercise ($8.14{\pm}0.11mg/kg/min$) and post exercise ($19.84{\pm}2.30\;mg/kg/min$). Second, comparing changes in blood lactate level relative to exercise type, isokineic group showed significant difference between before exercise ($2.99{\pm}0.65mmol$) and post exercise ($6.55{\pm}6.55mmol$). Isometric group showed significant difference between before exercise($1.71{\pm}5.48mmol$) and post exercise ($5.48{\pm}1.97mmol$). Isotonic group showed significant difference between before exercise($1.16{\pm}0.48mmol$) and post exercise($5.21{\pm}1.28mmol$). The results of this study indicate significant differences RPP in isometric exercise and significant differences blood lactate in isotonic exercise.
The gravity measurement has been conducted at 327 station with an interval of 25 m along the survey lines of 1.6 km and 1.7 km traversing Hyungsan river and of 2.35 km and 2.42 km running N-S direction near Heunghae-eup in Pohang basin. Bouguer gravity anomalies were obtained, and geologic structure along four survey lines were interpreted by applying Fourier series and Talwani methods for two demensional body. A fault is in existence along the Hyungsan river, and northern block of it is displaced down by 150 m to 200 m relative to southern one. The thicknesses of Yeonil Group vary from 250 m to 550 m and from 150 m to 300 m in the northern and southern blocks of the fault, respectively. Another fault is in existence running E-W direction near Heunghae-eup, and its southern block is displaced down by about 250 m relative to its northern block. The thicknesses of Yeonil Group vary from 200 m to 400 m and from 500 m to 700 m in the southern and northern blocks of the fault, respectively. Above two faults are normal faults and make a graben structure, which results the age of rocks in the central region between the faults is younger than those of outside regions. This result coincides with that of paleontological study.

Vapor-liquid equilibrium apparatus is designed and set up. The equilibrium data of two binary systems, HFC-32/143a and HFC-143a/134a, are measured. Fifteen equilibrium data for HFC-32/143a and HFC-143a/134a systems are measured over the temperature range 263.15~283.15K at 10K interval and the composition range 0.10~0.80, respectively. And vapor-liquid equilibrium data are calculated using equation of state and correlation of activity coefficient and compared with the present data. Equation of state is used CSD and RKS equations and correlation of activity coefficient is used Margules' and Van Ness and Abbott's correlations. Real behavior of HFC-32/143a system has very large deviation with Raoult's rule which is ideal behavior. But real behavior of HFC-143a/134a system is similar to ideal behavior. The calculated data from CSD equation are compared with the data in the open literatures and the calculated data from REFPROP. In the results for REFPROP, the relative deviations of bubble point pressure for HFC-32/143a system are within -2.16~0.84% for CSD equation and within -0.20~1.10% for RKS equation. And the relative deviations of bubble point pressure for HFC-143a/134a system are within -0.45~0.12% and -0.20~2.8% for CSD and RKS equations, respectively.

The experimental apparatus consists of dehumidifier with multi-layer type heat exchangers to remove the moisture from automatic equipments, semiconductors, and manufacturing processes under the low temperature environment, and chemical production lines which are likely to take moisture. The major components of this system are four evaporators with different fin pitch, two compressors, two condensers and an expansion valve. In this study, the performance characteristics of dehumidifier is analyzed by the variations of frontal air velocity in the first heat exchanger(evaporator). The cooling capacity of each heat exchanger is acquired by the enthalpy calculating from measuring point of temperature and relative humidity of the first heat exchanger from 1.0m/s to 4.0m/s with increasing interval 0.5m/s, and the front air velocity. As a result, it is found that cooling capacity of the first heat exchanger showed the best cooling capacity when its frontal air velocity is 2.0 m/s.

The objective of the paper was to calculate the pressure drop and to investigate the recirculation region of the conical orifices used in Kwang-yang Iron & Steel Company. The flow field with water used as a working fluid was the turbulent flow for Reynolds number of 2$\times$10$^4$. The effective parameters fur the pressure drop and the recirculation region were the conical orifice\`s inclined angle ($\theta$) against the wall, the interval(S) between orifices, the relative angle of rotation($\alpha$) of the orifices, the shape of the orifice's hole(circle, rectangle, triangle) having the same area, the number(N) of the orifice's holes having the same mass flow rate, and the thickness(t) of the orifices. It was fecund that the shape of the orifice's hole, the number of the orifice's holes and the thickness of the orifice affected the total pressure drop a lot and that the conical orifice's inclined angle against the wall, the relative angle of rotation of the orifices, the number of the orifice's holes and the thickness of the orifices affected the center location of the recirculation region. The PISO algorithm with FLUENT code was employed to analyze the flow field.

Objectives: This study explored the effect of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic on psychosocial stress in prime working-age individuals in Korea, focusing on gender inequalities. We hypothesized that the impact of COVID-19 on mental health would differ by age and gender, with younger women potentially demonstrating heightened vulnerability relative to men. Methods: The study involved data from the Korea Community Health Survey and included 319 592 adults aged 30 years to 49 years. We employed log-binomial regression analysis, controlling for variables including age, education, employment status, marital status, and the presence of children. The study period included 3 phases: the period prior to the COVID-19 outbreak (pre-COVID-19), the early pandemic, and the period following the introduction of vaccinations (post-vaccination). Results: The findings indicated that women were at a heightened risk of psychosocial stress during the early pandemic (relative risk [RR], 1.01; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.98 to 1.05) and post-vaccination period (RR, 1.07; 95% CI, 1.04 to 1.10) compared to men. This pattern was prominent in urban women aged 30-34 years (pre-COVID-19: RR, 1.06; 95% CI, 1.02 to 1.10; early pandemic: RR, 1.16; 95% CI, 1.08 to 1.25; post-vaccination period, RR, 1.22; 95% CI, 1.14 to 1.31). Conclusions: The COVID-19 pandemic has exerted unequal impacts on psychosocial stress among prime working-age individuals in Korea, with women, particularly those in urban areas, experiencing a heightened risk. The findings highlight the importance of addressing gender-specific needs and implementing appropriate interventions to mitigate the psychosocial consequences of the pandemic.
Background: Growing evidence suggests that beta-hydroxy-beta-methylbutyrate (HMB), arginine (Arg), and glutamine (Gln) positively affect wound recovery. This study investigated the effects of long-term administration of HMB/Arg/Gln on pressure ulcer (PU) healing in sedentary older adults admitted to geriatric and rehabilitation care facilities. Methods: This was a pilot retrospective case (standard of care and HMB/Arg/Gln)-control (standard of care alone) clinical study. Outcome measures were relative healing rates and Pressure Ulcer Scale for Healing (PUSH) scores (calculated after 4, 8, 12, 16, and 20 weeks) and time to healing. Results: The study subpopulation was comprised of 14 participants (four males, 28.6%) with the median age of 85.5 years (interquartile range [IQR], 82.0-90.2 years). The control subpopulation was comprised of 31 participants (18 males, 58.1%) with the median age of 84.0 years (IQR, 78.0-90.0 years). At the beginning of follow-up, there were no statistically significant demographic (sex and age) and clinical (main diagnosis, baseline area, and PU perimeter) differences between the groups. During the study period, there were no significant differences in the relative healing rates and PUSH scores between the subpopulations. The median time to complete healing in the study and control populations was 170.0 days (95% confidence interval [CI], 85.7-254.3) and 218.0 days (95% CI, 149.2- 286.7) (log-rank, chi-square=3.99; p<0.046), respectively. Conclusion: More than 20 weeks of HMB/Arg/Gln supplementation had a positive effect on difficult PU healing in older adults with multiple comorbidities.
Objectives: The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic led to increased mortality rates. To assess this impact, this ecological study aimed to estimate the excess death counts in southern Iran. Methods: The study obtained weekly death counts by linking the National Death Registry and Medical Care Monitoring Center repositories. The P-score was initially estimated using a simple method that involved calculating the difference between the observed and expected death counts. The interrupted time series analysis was then used to calculate the mean relative risk (RR) of death during the first year of the pandemic. Results: Our study found that there were 5571 excess deaths from all causes (P-score=33.29%) during the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic, with 48.03% of these deaths directly related to COVID-19. The pandemic was found to increase the risk of death from all causes (RR, 1.26; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.19 to 1.33), as well as in specific age groups such as those aged 35-49 (RR, 1.21; 95% CI, 1.12 to 1.32), 50-64 (RR, 1.38; 95% CI, 1.28 to 1.49), and ≥65 (RR, 1.29; 95% CI, 1.12 to 1.32) years old. Furthermore, there was an increased risk of death from cardiovascular diseases (RR, 1.17; 95% CI, 1.11 to 1.22). Conclusions: There was a 26% increase in the death count in southern Iran during the COVID-19 pandemic. More than half of these excess deaths were not directly related to COVID-19, but rather other causes, with cardiovascular diseases being a major contributor.
In order to confirm whether acquired immunity or resistance can be developed by the repeated hookworm infections, the 150 mature actively moving filariform ancylostoma duodenale larvae obtained from the severe hookworm anemia patients were orally given to 8 healthy volunteers in three divided doses, 50 in each, at 5 day interval. Also the hematological changes as well as several ferrokinetics using $^{59}Fe$ were done and were compared with 10 controls. The clinical symptoms and signs were checked every day for the first 3 weeks and then twice weekly until the end of the experiment. The appearance of the ova in the stool was examined by the formalin ether method and the ova was counted by the Stoll's method. The following laboratory tests were done: 1) Red blood cell count, venous blood hematocrit(micromethod), hemoglobin count (cyanomethemoglobin method) were checked every 5 to 7 day interval. 2) Plasma iron concentration (Barkan's modified method) was determined every 2 to 3 week interval. 3) Radioisotope studies: a) Ferrokinetics: Huff et al and Bothwell's method were applied. Erythropoietic Index (% of normal)=$\frac{Subject's\;turnover/100ml\;whole\;blood{\times}100}{Average\;normal\;turnover/100ml\;whole\;blood}$ of the gastrointestinal absorption of iron: Radioiron($^{59}Fe$) balance b) Quantitative measurement method was applied. c) Determination of the plasma erythropoietin activity: Fried's method was applied. Following were the results: 1) The serum iron level was lower. The red cell volume was decreased, but with relative increase of plasma volume. 2) The plasma iron disappearance time was accelerated and the plasma iron turnover rate was decreased. The red cell iron turnover rate was markedly increased, while all of the red cell iron concentration, circulating red cell iron. plasma iron pool were decreased. The daily iron pool turnover and red cell renewal rate were increased. 3) The erythropoietic index, erythropoietin activity and intestinal absorption of iron($^{59}Fe$) were markedly increased. 4) The infectivity was $9.8{\pm}1.31%$ which was lower than that observed in the single infection. 5) From these observations, it is concluded that the hookworm anemia is essentially iron deficieny in its origin and some immunity acquisition is possible with repeated infections.
