This study was conducted to assess the diameter growth patterns of Quercus mongolica and Quercus variabilis dominant species in natural deciduous forests in Korea. The diameter growth data were collected from 83 destructively sample trees for stem analysis in Gangwon-Do region. The relationship between diameter growth and 14 tree measurements was also analyzed. The average diameter growth rate of dominant trees for both species increased until ages of 15-20 years, and exhibited generally constant trend for subsequent ages. The diameter growth rate of both species ranged from 0.09-0.83 cm/yr across the all ages. Average annual diameter growth for last 5 measurement years was 0.28 cm/yr for Quercus mongolica and 0.27cm/yr for Quercus variabilis. The observed growth rate decreased with decreasing crown class. The difference between diameter growth rates for different crown classes was only statistically significant (p<0.0001) for Quercus mongolica. Pearson correlation coefficient between the diameter growth rate decreased with relative diameter (r=0.64), relative height (r=0.61), exposed crown area (r=0.58) and total crown area (r=0.56) for Quercus mongolica. For Quercus variabilis, Pearson correlation coefficient decreased with dbh (r=0.57), crown width (r=0.55), age (r=0.39), competition index (r=-0.39), and height (r=0.35).

This study was conducted to test the effect of residual Al on plankton community after dissolved air flotation (DAF) application. Growth rate of phytoplankton after DAF application ($0.37day^{-1}$) was about 2 times lower than that before DAF application ($0.70day^{-1}$). Under the condition of addition of nitrogen and phosphorus without light, growth rate phytoplankton in treatment without residual Al increased in difference with showing the negative growth rate in treatment with residual Al. Under the condition of light without addition of nutrient, growth rate of phytoplankton was no noticeable difference between the before and after DAF application. The relatively high settling rate (0.47 m/day) was observed in treatment after DAF application. Although the abundance of rotifer decreased, the abundance of copepod and cladoceran such as Daphnia galeata, Diaphanosoma sp. and Bosmina longirostris with relative higher grazing was no noticeable difference between the before and after DAF application. In the treatments before and after DAF application with zooplankton, growth rate of phytoplankton was $0.41{\pm}0.08day^{-1}$, $0.20{\pm}0.03day^{-1}$, respectively. This difference was in treatment after DAF application similar with those in treatments before and after DAF application without zooplankton. Those indicate that the filter-feeding effect of zooplankton on phytoplankton community may be not changed by residual Al after the DAF application. These results suggest that residual Al after DAF application be to improve water quality by inhibition of growth rate as well as increasing settling rate of phytoplankton.
For the improvement of nursery condition and the study of eco-physiological characteristics of Pinus koraiensis(2-2) seedlings, the primary productivity was investigated and the growth characteristics and their correlationship were analyzed from May to September in 1987. Seedlings used in this study were grown at the nursery of Experimental Forestry of Kyung Hee Univ. The installation of experimental plots were divided into control plot (100%), 63%, 37% and 19% relative light intensity, and each relative light intensity plots were split into $15{\times}15/m^2$, $12{\times}12/m^2$, $9{\times}9/m^2$ and $6{\times}6/m^2$ plnting density by randomized black design method. To take into account the edge effect of plant population, material were selected from each plot by random sampling at 30 days interval. Each sampled material was divided into leaf and stem drived in a drying oven at the temperature of $85^{\circ}C$ until it had constant weight and weighed. and leaf area was surveyed. Growth analysis for RGR and NAR was done by Blackman method and correlation coefficient were investigated between RGR and NAR by analyzing the dry matter production and growth characteristics of the material, cultivated on the experimental nursery under the condition of different treatment the obtained result were as follows : 1. The increasing rate of dry matter was similar at early stage of growth, but not at late stage. 2. Leaf area growth was the maximum value at 63% relative light intensity and the minimum at 19% RLI 3. The value of RGR was the highest on June under $6{\times}6/m^2$ planting density in 63% relative light intensity, the lowest on September under $12{\times}12/m^2$ of 19% relative light intensity. 4. The change NAR decreased in early stage of growth, while it increased on August and September, The value of RGR on June under $6{\times}6/m^2$ planting density in 100 light intensity was the highest, and on September under $12{\times}12/m^2$ planting density in 19% relative light intensity was the lowest. 5. Regression and correlation between RGR and NAR showed significantly positive.
Here we reported an analyzing result for the relationship between climatic variables and rice(c.v. Odaebyeo and Ilpumbyeo) yield characteristics (including some growth characteristics) based on a long-term observed data at GARES and at KMA for rice and weather, respectively. Most of crop parameters investigated, such as heading date, culm height, panicle number $m^{-2}$, grain number $panicle^{-1}$ ripening rate, 1,000 grain weight and yield were strongly affected by wind velocity and relative humidity, as well as by daily mean air temperature, precipitation, sunshine hours and daily variations in air temperature depending on variety and crop developmental stages. Air velocity and relative humidity had not been studied as climatic variables affecting on the characteristics of rice growth and yield, however, they turned out to affect all the characteristics of rice investigated, especially ripening rate and yield, as much as any other climatic variables in this study. Air velocity appeared to affect highly the culm height and yield of Odaebyeo and ilpumbyeo. Relative humidity appeared to affect highly grain number and ripening rate of Odaebyeo and yield of Ilpumbyeo. Consequently Rice yield revealed to increase in the climatic conditions of high air velocity and low relative humidity.
This experiment was conducted with nine wheat geno-types to choose the wheat which has excellent early vigour. 'Vigour 18' and 'ZL 59A' are excellent in the long coleoptile genotype, while 'Amery' and 'Janz' are excellent in the short coleoptile genotype. Responding to the growth stage and nitrogen level, Vigour 18 is predominant in the long coleoptile genogype, while Janz in the short coleoptile genotype. Responding to sowing density and nitrogen level, the higher the sowing density was, the shorter the leaf area of Vigour 18 and Janz. Also the leaf area turned out to larger in the plot fertilized with high nitrogen than in the plot fertilized with low nitrogen. This is true of leaf weight and root weight. Concerning specific leaf area (SLA) and leaf area ratio (LAR), the higher the sowing density was, the SLA tended to grow larger, while the SLA grew larger in the plot fertilized with low nitrogen, as were found in Vigour 18 and Janz. The roots of long coleoptile genotype, Vigour 18, turned out to grow longest on the plot sown with 3 seeds. While the roots of short coleoptile genotype, Janz, grew longest on the plot sown with 2 seeds. The relative growth rate (RGR) was the same at low N rates and high N rates. The RGR was 0.071 and 0.072 g $g^{-1}d^{-1}$ at low N rates and high N rates. The partitioning of RGR into net assimilation rate (NAR) and LAR showed that the average LAR at low N rates was similar to the LAR at high N rates. Variation within each cultivar in the LAR and NAR was small relative to the difference between them at low N rates and high N rates. Above ground mass was 8.2 mg greater at high N rates than low N rates, whereas leaf area was 0.05 $\textrm{m}^2$$kg^{-l}$ greater at high N rates than low N rates. The NAR was similar at low N rates and high N rates, whereas LAR was greater at high N rates (0.05 $\textrm{m}^2$$kg^{-l}$); variation in SLA was responsible for the variation in NAR and LAR both at low N rates and high N rates. NAR was more closely associated with the reciprocal of SLA.
In this paper, technology gap between Korea's manufacturing industries compared to technology frontier countries was estimated in order to take into account Korea's status as a technology follower country. Then by using this measure the role of technology gap was investigated in explaining total factor productivity growth of the Korean manufacturing at industry level. The main empirical findings are as follows: First, the conventional factors that were emphasized in the previous literature such as R&D intensity, trade openness and human capital play important role in explaining the growth rate of Korea's total factor productivity. Second, the larger the technology gap between Korea and technology leader country (and the faster the technology growth rate in the leader country), the higher the growth rate of total factor productivity in Korea as well. Third when the technology gap is large, the most efficient way of absorbing higher technology from frontier country seems to be the international trade channel rather than R&D or human capital accumulation.
This study was conducted to develop the regulating methods for the optimal harvest stage of new sprout for woody plants, and to clarify the effects of storage condition and period on the growth of new sprout formed of Aralia elata cv. 'Jeongkwang'. Japanese angelica tree were collected in the Jangheung district of Jeonnam on 20. March, 2005, and those cut branches were stored at $5{\pm}2^{\circ}C$ and 80 to 90% of the relative humidity, and were cut in water. Survival rate of cut branches for Aralia elata cv. 'Jeongkwang' was significantly increased when that was used for the cutting after the collection with no storage. And those survival rate was much more increased when that was stored at 80 to 90% of relative humidity than 40 to 50% of relative humidity. Number of new sprouts formed which were not stored immediately after the collection 3.2 to 3.4, and that were stored at cold storage room before cutting and cut on 1. June and 1. August were 5.1 to 5.3. Leaf growth of cut branches cut in water on 20. March started at ten days after cutting, and that on 1. June and 1. August at one to two days after cutting. Slow and mature sprout growth of Aralia elata cv. 'Jeongkwang' which were cut in water were different by the cold storage periods. Nineteen days were needed for the mature growth of sprout when cut in water on 20. March, and thirteen days on 1. August.
This study was conducted to investigate the effect of simulated acid rain (SAR) on germination, growth, acid buffering capacity and nutrient leaching in Impatiens balsamina L. and Tagetes patula L.. In both species, germination was not inhibited at pH 4.0, but the germination rate decreased at the lower pH of 3.0, showing higher rate in Inpatiens balsamina L. than Tagetes patula L.. As the pH decreases, the growth of radicle was markedly decreased than that of hypocotyl in both species. The plant height, root length, leaf area, total dry weight, relative growth rate and net assimilation rate were inhibited by SAR. The acid buffering capacity in the leaves were increased at pH 4.0, on the other hand, it was shown a tendency to decrease at pH 2.0 in both species. As the pH levels decreased from 5.6 to 2.0, the nutrient leaching from leaves was significantly increased in both species. Based on the results, there are a great difference in the responses to SAR between the two species. In general, Tagetes patula L. represented a higher tolerance to SAR than Impatiens balsamina L.. These results suggested that interspecific variation in the acid buffering capacity and nutrient leaching from leaves may be responsible for the interspecific susceptibility to SAR.

In this thesis, the metastable state diamond thin films have been deposited on Si substrates from methane-hydrogen and oxygen mixture using Microwave Plasma Enhanced Chemical Vapor deposition (MWPCVD) method. Effects of each experimental parameters of MWPCVD including methane concentrations, oxygen additions, operating pressure, deposition time, etc. on the growth rate and crystallinity were investigated. SEM, XRD, and Raman spectroscopy were employed to analyze the growth rate and morphology, crystallinity and prefered growth direction, and relative amounts of diamond and non-diamond phases respectively. As a methane concentration below 4%, the deposited films having well-defined facets could be obtained. As the methane concentration increases over 4%, the shape of films gradually changed into a amorphos form. The best crystallinity of the film at 3% in the Raman spectroscopy. Addition of oxygen to the methane-hydrogen mixture gave an improved film crystallinity at 50% oxygen concentration due to its more effectiveness in the selective removal of the non-diamond phased compared to the of H atom. on the contrary, the growth rate generally decreased by oxygen to from the more stable CO and CO2 is responsible for such an effect. Upon increasing the operating pressure and time, increased of growth rate and crystallinity were increased simultaneously.

Ultrafine Particle number and size distributions were simultaneously measured at rural area around the power plant in Dangjin, South Korea. New Particle formation and growth events were frequently observed during January, 2021 and classified based on their strength and persistence as well as the variation in geometric mean diameter(GMD) on January 12, 21 and 17. In this study, we investigated mechanisms of new particle growth based on measurements using a high resolution time of flight aerosol mass spectrometer(HR-ToF-AMS) and a scanning mobility particle sizer(SMPS). On Event days(Jan 12 and 21), the total average growth rate was found to be 8.46 nm/h~24.76 nm/hr. These growth rate are comparable to those reported for other urban and rural sites in South Korea using different method. Comparing to the Non-Event day(Jan 17), New Particle Growth mostly occurred when solar radiation is peaked and relative humidity is low in daytime, moreover enhanced under the condition of higher precusors, NO2 (39.9 vs 6.2ppb), VOCs(129.5 vs 84.6ppb), NH3(11 vs 4.7ppb). The HR-ToF-AMS PM1.0 composition shows Organic and Ammoniated nitrate were dominant species effected by emission source in domestic. On the other hand, The Fraction of Ammoniated sulfate was calculated to be approximately 16% and 31% when air quality is inflow from China. Longer term studies are needed to help resolve the relative contributions of each precusor species on new particle growth characteristics.
