  • This paper reports on an experimental study of the absorption of COS in a secondary amine diethanolamine. The primary objectives were to investigate an analogy between $N_2$O and COS, thereby allowing an estimation of the physical solubility and diffusivity of the sulfur gases in the reacting amine solutions. The solubilities and diffusivities of $N_2$O and COS in 5~25% aqueous polyethylene glycol at $25^{\circ}C$ were measured. The results appeared to verify the use of an $N_2$O-COS analogy for estimating the solubility and diffusivity of COS in aqueous solutions of alkanolamines up to an approximate 25 weight % concentration. The mean deviation of the $N_2$O analogy relative to the measured solubilities was 3.7%, and the mean deviation between the analogy and the measured diffusion coefficients using the experimental values for Hcos/PEG was 14.6%.

  • This paper investigates the value of the expectation-confirmation model(ECM) of IT continuance in the internet shopping environments and attempts to expand the ECM with consideration of users diverse internet shopping factors and their preferences. Here, the extended ECM measures the users expectation-confirmation separately at the product, site and service levels, rather than treating it a single construct as measured in the original model. Further, AHP has been used for assessing the relative importance among the shopping factors, and the priority has been used for deriving weighted expectation-confirmation levels in the model. PLS analysis shows that there are significant differences in path coefficients between the ECM and a weighted ECM. This Indicates that users preferences among the diverse shopping factors need to be properly assessed to better understand the relationship between users expectation-confirmation and their continued usage behavior.

  • A mathematical model for the prediction of carbon-dioxide absorption rate during the transient state of rotary type absorber is developed. The rotary type absorber operates using a fast rotating porous structure and clean water. The model for the transient state rotary type absorbers is based on the steady state model of packed tower absorber. The paper manipulates the operating data of an arbitrary quasi-steady state condition of rotary type absorber for the determination of the coefficients involved in the model developed. The prediction accuracy is evaluated from the measured data of rotary type absorber operated under fast transient state. The measured data include the mole fraction of carbon dioxide in mixed gas and the pressure of absorber. The relative error in carbon dioxide prediction is estimated to be 20% at maximum. The model is successfully applied for the prediction of the behavior of a closed cycle diesel engine.

  • As a non-aqueous dyeing method, organic solvent dyeing was discussed, The dye uptakes on PET and the solubilities of C. I. Disperse Violet 1 in 24 kinds of organic solvents including water were investigated, and the partition coefficients in PET- solvents system were also obtained from their isotherms. Contrary to in the other solvents, the dye uptake of C. I. Disperse Violet 1 on PET in hexane was even much higher, and also considerable in cyclohexane. The logarithmic plot of the dye uptakes versus the solubilities showed that the dye uptakes are linear and inversely proportional to the solubilities. The effect of $T_g$ decrease of PET in organic solvents to dye uptake seems to be very small relative to the effect of solubility, and so negligible.

  • Performance of the group cumulative sum (CUSUM) control scheme using multiple univariate CUSUM charts is more sensitive to the change of quality control (QC) characteristics than the control chart schemes based on the Hotelling statistic We vexamine three group charts for multivariate normal data sets simulated with various correlation structures and shift directions in the mean vector. These group schemes apply the original measurement vectors, the scaled residual vectors from the re-gression of each variable on all others and the principal component vectors respectively to calculat-ing the CUSUM statistics. They are also compared to the multivariate QC charts based on the Ho-telling statistic by estimating average run lengths, coefficients of variation of run length and ranks in signaling order. On the basis of simulation results, we suggest a control chart scheme appropriate for specific quality control environment.

  • The simple and accurate method was established for the simultaneous determination of (-)-menthone and (-)-menthol in Menthae herba obtained from Korea and China. A quantitative analysis was performed with a gas chromatography-flame ionization detector and reference compounds were separated on a capillary HP-Innowax column (30 m $\times$ 0.23 mm, 0.50 ${\mu}m$, Agilent, MA, USA). The correlation coefficients of the compounds showed good linearity ($r^2$ > 0.9997) over the linear range. The precision, repeatability and stability showed less than 1.7% of relative standard deviation (RSD) values for two compounds. Recovery rates were within the range of 95.72 - 103.76%. The method was applied successfully to analyze 15 samples of Menthae herba and achieved sufficient and specific separation of reference compounds. The principal component analysis (PCA) exhibited the classification of 15 samples according to their locations of origin.

  • In this paper, we review the variable-selection properties of LASSO and SCAD in penalized regression. To improve the weakness of SCAD for high noise level, we propose a new penalty function called MSCAD which relaxes the unbiasedness condition of SCAD. In order to compare MSCAD with LASSO and SCAD, comparative studies are performed on simulated datasets and also on a real dataset. The performances of penalized regression methods are compared in terms of relative model error and the estimates of coefficients. The results of experiments show that the performance of MSCAD is between those of LASSO and SCAD as expected.

  • Apparent molal valumes ${\phi}_v$ and relative viscosities ${\eta}_r$ of aqueous solutions of anilinium chloride have been determined at two degree intervals from 20 to $50^{\circ}C$ in the molar concentration range 0.003 < C < 0.4. The results are discussed in terms of partial molal volumes $\={V}^{\circ}$, deviations from the Debye-H$\''{u}$ckel limiting law, partial molal expansibilities $\={E}^{\circ}$, viscosity B coefficients calculated from the Jones-Dole equation, and energy of activation for viscous flow. In aqueous solution, anilinium chloride was found to be a weak structure-maker due to its hydrophobic group.

  • This paper dealt with friction-induced vibrations in engineering practice, specifically arising at the moment of counterturn of two friction surfaces. The harshness of the vibrations are attributed to the sharp change of the friction coefficients from kinetic to static near zero relative velocity, which is one of the examples of the stick slip. But the experimental results and numerical analysis of piston and cylinder operation showed that transition of the friction coefficient from kinetic to static is insignificant in vibrations. Dry friction itself dominates the harshness of vibrations. This study shows that how dry friction triggers the vibrations and demonstrates the effect of sharp transition from kinetic to static friction coefficient on the vibrations.

  • As the number of offshore structure is glowing in deep waters, there have been increased damages of it. These floating structures in offshore locations exposed to harsh environmental conditions. In recent years, there has been a slowing attention around damages on bow and deck on FPSO caused by waves in steep storm condition. This paper describes a study of the water on deck due to the dynamic behavior of a FPSO with turret mooring system. The nonlinear motions of the FPSO are simulated under external forces due to wave, current, wind, and mooring forces in the time domain. The direct integration method is employed to estimate low frequency drift wave forces. The current forces are calculated by using slow motion maneuvering equations in the horizontal plane. The coefficients of a model for wind forces are calculated from Isherwood's experimental data and the variation of wind speed is estimated by wind spectrum according to the guidelines of API-RP2A.
