Seismic Damage Analysis Of Concrete Gravity Dam Using ABAQUS (ABAQUS 소프트웨어를 이용한 콘크리트 중력댐의 지진손상해석)

  • This study deals with 2D and 3D nonlinear seismic damage analysis of a concrete gravity dam using the finite element program ABAQUS and the concrete damaged plasticity model. 2D and 3D spillway sections of the dam are simulated. First the frequency analysis is conducted to compare the fundamental frequency and estimate the value of damping coefficient. Then the seismic analysis is conducted using the simulated ground acceleration motion. The relative displacement between the crest and bottom of the dam is obtained and compared for the maximum value and occurrence time. The results indicate that the plane-stress assumption gives similar results of maximum relative displacement and final damage distribution with 3D analysis.

  • The concept of introducing viscous damping devices between outriggers and perimeter columns in tall buildings to provide supplementary damping and improve performance, reduce structural costs, and increase available usable area was developed and implemented by Smith and Willford (2007). It was recognized that the relative vertical movement that would occur between the ends of outriggers and columns, if they were not connected, could be used to generate damping. The movements, and correspondingly damping, can potentially be significantly increased by amplifying them using simple "mechanisms". The mechanisms also make it possible to increase the number of available dampers and thus further increase supplementary damping. The feasibility of mechanisms to amplify supplementary damping and enhance structural performance of tall, slender buildings is studied with particular focus on its efficacy in improving structural performance in wind loads.

  • A functional suspension model is proposed as a kinematic describing function of the suspension, that represents the relative wheel displacement in polynomial form in terms of the vertical displacement of the wheel center and steering rack displacement. The relative velocity and acceleration of the wheel is represented in terms of first and second derivatives of the kinematic describing function. The system equations of motion for the full vehicle dynamic model are systematically derived by using velocity transformation method of multi-body dynamics. The comparison of test and simulation results demonstrates the validity of the proposed functional suspension modeling method. The model is computationally very efficient to achieve real-time simulation on TMS 320C6711 150 MHz DSP board of HILS (hardware-in-the-loop simulation) system for ECU (electronic control unit) evaluation of semi-active suspension.

  • This paper aims to examine the dynamic response of a newly designed ultrasonic motor under half-sine shock impulses. Impact shock was applied to the motor along x, y or z axis respectively with different pulse widths to check the sensitivity of the motor to the shocks in different directions. Finite Element Analysis (FEA) with the ANSYS software was conducted to obtain the relative displacement of a key point of the motor. Numerical results show that the maximum relative displacement is of micro meter level and the maximum stress is five orders smaller than the Young's modulus of the piezo material, which proves the robustness of the motor.

  • Relative displacements between decks should be within the allowable limit under horizontal forces in high-speed railway bridges. Longitudinal force transmitters(LFT) have been introduced ih high-speed railway bridges for test track. The horizontal forces on the pier supporting the fixed bearing are transmitted to the near piers supporting the sliding bearings by LFT, The performance of LFT was investigated by field test in which the braking and acceleration tests using KTX were conducted in Baebang viaduct. The relative displacements between decks were measured infield test and were compared with the numerical results and the allowable limit.

  • The optimal guidance has advantages of accuracy and economic energy consumption but it is difficult to implement due to its dependence on the target information such as the relative range, the relative velocity and the acceleration of target. This paper uses optimal guidance and sliding-mode guidance to obtain a new guidance method. The suggested method shows robustness against target maneuvers, good dynamic performance, energy saving of missile and terminal accuracy. Its effectiveness is demonstrated by the simulation results.

  • As a first step for aerodynamic analysis of vertical axis wind turbine, dynamic stall characteristics of airfoil was investigated. Dynamic stall of wind turbine airfoil is caused by severe variation of angle of attack and relative velocity of flow around airfoil. Angle of attack and relative velocity can be expressed with tip speed ratio. Variation of angle of attack is strongly dependent on the tip speed ratio. For tip speed ratio, 1.4 and free stream velocity, 15m/s, dynamic stall characteristics of wind turbine airfoil is compared with those of oscillating airfoil having same angle of attack variation.

  • In this paper, a physically meaningful methodology which can assess the contribution of each vibration mode to various vibration response signals (displacement, velocity, acceleration) is developed. Based on these results, the problem of quantitative assessment of the relative importance of a structural system's vibrational modes is discussed. In addition, a direct method which ran assess the relative importance of each mode from uniformly sampled experimental data is also proposed.

  • A vehicle longitudinal control strategy with guaranteed string stability for vehicle stop-and-go(SG) cruise control is presented in this paper. The SG cruise control systems should be designed such that string stability can be guaranteed in addition to that every vehicle in a string of SG cruise control vehicles must track any bounded acceleration and velocity profile of its preceding vehicle with a bounded spacing and velocity error. An optimal vehicle following control law based on the information of the 1311owing distance (clearance) and its velocity relative to the vehicle ahead (relative velocity) has been used and string stability analysis has been done based on the control law and constant time gap spacing policy, A validated multi-vehicle simulation package has been shown that the string stability analysis using the approximate model of the vehicle servo-loop which includes vehicle powertrain and brake control system dynamics is valid in the design of the SG cruise control law with guaranteed string stability.
