  • The purpose of this study was to find out the present condition of clinical practice and to develop a scheme on the efficiency of clinical practice for nursing education in junior college of nursing in korea. This study was conducted by 2 sections. Ist section was to find out the present condition of clinical practice to 42 directors of nursing collegd and data were collected July 8 to September 30, 1988. 2nd section wat to develop a scheme on the efficiency of clinical practice for nursing education and subjects were nursing professors 258: and clinical nurses 223 in 42 junior nursing colleges their clinical settings in korea. So total subjects were 481. Data were collected july 8, 1988 to June 30, 1988 and were analysed to get the mean, standand deviation, frequency, percentage, t-test, x-test used by SPSS - pc. Major findings were as follows: 1. The present condition of clinical education in junior college of nursing in Korea. 1) 32 colleges (76.2%) were managed by a-yeas system. 2) 25 colleges (59.5%) were performed by individual practice for each subject. 3) 4 weeks interval between class education and clinical education was a major type among total colleges(36.6%, J5 colleges) 4) 30 colleges (71.4%) provided clinical education for all subjects that should be practiced. Nursing administration wes not practiced in 5 colleges (41.9%) among the remainder(12 colleges). The main cause that all practice subjects were not practiced was the lack or absence of suitable clinical settings(8 colleges. 66.7%) 5) 18 colleges (42.9%) responded that a clinical educator was, subject-charged professor. 6) 12 colleges (29.3%) responded that a clinical instructor was in charge of 6~10 students. 7) The evaluation ration ratio(professor to head nurse) by each evaluator was mostly 50% to 50 % and 60% to 40%, respectively 11 colleges(27.5%) The most common evaluation methods were evaluation by head nures, report, presence, conference (11 colleges, 27.5%) 8) The field carrier of professor was mostly 2 years (79 persons, 20.7%) and mean was 3.2 years. The education carrier of a professor was mostly over than 6 years (261 persons, 66.4%) and mean was 9.2 years. The charge hours per-week of a professor were mostly 16-18 hours (16 persons, 131.8%) 9) 34 colleges (82.9%) approved that clinical practice hour was class hour and 18 colleges (43.9 %) counted that 2 hours of clinical education equaled 1 hour of class education. 2. A study 'on the efficiency of clinical practice for nursing education. L) general characteristics of subjects were as follows: kung-sang province (145 persons, 30.5%), 30-34 years (190 persons, 39.8%), graduated degree (245 persons, 51.5%), 6-10 years of carrier (199 persons, 41.4%) were the majority. 2) suitable clinical setting was responded the systematic ward with responsible clinical educator by 210 persons(43.8%) The response by working field of subjects showed a significant difference (p< 0.01) 3) 259 subjects (54.0%) responded that the desirable qualfication of clinical instructor was 3-5 years of clinical experience with master degree or higher. 4) The mean score of desirable quality degree of clinical instructor was 3.43 professors, score (3.54) was significantly higher than clinical nurses' (3.28) (p<0.01) 412 subjects (86.0%) responded that the insufficient guality of instructor was improved by continuing to seek more new information in reference. 5) 196 subjects (41.4%) responded that desirable qualification of head nurse was more than 2 years of head position among 5 years of clinical experience. The response by working' field of subjects showed a significant difference (p<0.05) 6) The mean score of desirable quality degree of head nurse was 3.18 Clinical nurses' score(3.38) was significantly higher than professors' (3.01) (p<0.01) 419 subjects (87.8%) responded that the insufficient of head nurse was improved by continuing relationship with instructor and being responsible from planing of clinical education. 7) The mean score of performance level of the desirable clinical education guide incollege was 2.91 Professors' score (2.96) was significantly higher than clinical nurses' (2.84) (p<0.01) 340 subjects (71.1%) responded that the possible resolution for poor performance was the more specified syllabus of clinical education and the satisfiable orientation for students. 8) The mean score of performance level of the desirable clinical education guide in hospital was 3.03 9) 141 subjects (29.6%) responded that the desirable clinical evaluator was the group of professor, head nurse, staff nurse. Response by working field of subjects was a significant difference (p< 0.05) 10) The mean score of performance level of the evaluation content needed in clinical education was 3.50 Clinical nurses' score (3.56) was significantly higher than professors' (3.45) (p<0.01) 11) 433 subjects (90.2%) responded that6 desirable evaluation method for clinical education was the presence. 12) The mean score of performance level about how personal difference among clinical educators was minimized was 2.89 and response by working field of subjects was not significant. • Objective: This study aims to determine whether national patient safety indicators (PSIs) can be calculated. Methods: Using PSI criteria from Organization for Economic Co-Operation and Development (OECD) Health Technical Papers 19 based on the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), PSIs were identified in the Korean National Hospital Discharge In-depth Injury Survey (KNHDIIS) database for 875,622 inpatient admissions between 2004 and 2008. Logistic regression was used to estimate factors of variations for PSIs. Results: From 2004 to 2008, 3,084 PSI events of 8 PSIs occurred for over 80 thousands discharges. Rates per 1,000 events for decubitus ulcer (PSI3, 4.88), foreign body left during procedure (PSI5, 0.05), postoperative sepsis (PSI13, 1.32), birth trauma-injury to neonate (PSI17, 7.92) and obstetric trauma-vaginal delivery (PSI18, 32.81) are all identified between ranges from maximum to minimum of OECD rates, respectively. However, rates per 1,000 events for selected infections due to medical care (PSI7, 0.22), postoperative pulmonary embolism or deep vein thrombosis (PSI12, 0.90) and accidental puncture or laceration (PSI15, 0.71) are below the minimum of OECD range. 7 PSIs except PSI 18 showed statistically significant relationship with number of secondary diagnoses. When adjusting patient characteristics, there are statistically significant different rates according to bed size or location of hospitals. Conclusion: This is the first empirical study to identify nationally number of adverse events and PSIs using administrative database. While many factors influencing these results such as quality of data, clinical data and so on are remain, the results indicate opportunities for estimate national statistics for patient safety. Furthermore outcome research such as mortality related to adverse events is needed based on results of this study.

  • In order to determine the relationship between water content and flower qualities of oriental hybrid lily cv. 'Siberia' cut flower, flowers were subjected to dry and cold storage at $5^{\circ}C$ for 3, 6, and 12 days and subsequently exposed to ambient temperature ($26^{\circ}C$) in bottles with water for up to 16 days. Flowers stored at $22^{\circ}C$ in dry condition for 3 days were used as the control. Changes in fresh weight, moisture content, water balance, flowering stages, osmolality and vase life of cut flowers were observed. Flowers treated with cold and dry storage had higher moisture content compared to control sample. However, this trend was evident only for 3-day cold and dry stored sample during the whole storage period. The fresh weight of cut flowers increased gradually when the samples were transferred to ambient temperature in water bottles and then declined steadily before reaching the peak in between 6-8 days of vase life. However, the changes of fresh weight of control sample were substantially faster than samples pre-treated with cold and dry storage. This was also correlated with the water balance of cut flower as it reached the minus (-) value in 6-8 days of vase life at ambient temperature. Cut lily flowers showed high osmolality values corresponding with the duration of dry storage regardless of low or higher temperature. However, osmolality had no effect on vase life since flower stem absorbed water rapidly at the end of dry storage period. Our vase life results suggest that cold and dry storage of lily cut flowers for a certain period could ensure longer vase life at ambient temperature. It was observed that prolonging the storage period at cold and dry condition for more than a week significantly increased bud abortion, reduced longevity of flowers and reduced the vase life of cut flowers. On the other hand, the shorter cold and dry storage treatment delayed the bud opening and senescence of the flowers, thus, slowering the normal maturation and aging. Results indicated that dry and cold storage at $5^{\circ}C$ for 3 days was effective in maintaining and preserving overall quality and vase life at ambient condition of oriental hybrid lily cut flowers.

  • This experiment was carried out to determine the effect of different levels of phosphate and potash firtilizers applied on yields and quality of leaf tobacco. It was done at all varying levels of phosphate and potassium fertilizers $S_0$ (non-fertilizer plot);N:P:K=0:0:0 (Kg/10a) $S_1$ (1/2 amount plot);N:P:K=10:7.5:10 (Kg/10a) $S_2$ (standard plot);N:P:K=10:15:20 (Kg/10a) $S_3$ (1.5 times plot);N:P:K=10:22.5:30(Kg/10a) $S_4$ (2.0times plot);N:P:K==10:30:40 (Kg/10a) Urea was applied as nitrogen, triple superphosphate as phosphate, potassium sulfate as potash source. The total amount of fertilizers was applied as basal dressing per one plant. This experiment was carried out by using randomized block design with 3 replication. The results obtained in terms of yields and quality are summarized as follows. 1. By increasing the amounts of phosphate and potassium fertilizers, growing status of the largest leaf length, the largest leaf width and stem size of tobacco increased in the order of $S_4>S_3>S_2>S_1>S_0$. 2. By increasing the amount of phosphate and potassium fertilizers, yield was increased in the order of $S_4>S_3>S_2>S_1>S_0$, This increase showed generally high significance among various levels of treatments. 3. The regressive equation was derived from the relationship between treatment levels and tobacco leaf yield. The most desirable treatment level for the maximum yield was estimated as the 2.87 times as much as the treatment level of phosphate and potasium fertilizers of standard plot. 4. By increased application of phosphate and potash fertilizers, the contents of $P_2O_5$ and $K_2O$ in the tobacco leaf became greater while the content of nicotine was decreased. Thus, a negative correlation between fertilizer application and nicotine content has been observed.

  • As the interest in the business-to-business(B2B) electronic commerce is increasing, many companies are participating in the B2B e-Marketplaces. The e-Marketplace is defined as the virtual market that many players take part in to transact. The e-Marketplace has an influenced on the manner in which organizational buyers and sellers interact. As a result, it is important to develop an understanding of the behaviors of firms that use these electronic marketplaces. The purpose of this study is to develop a comprehensive model for trust and commitment of B2B e-Marketplace and empirically to examine their structural relationships. Drawing from trust and commitment theory in the interorganizational relationship and B2B electronic commerce context, this study identifies network externality, interactivity, justice, quality of information sharing, institutional assurance as the determinants of trust and commitment of e-Marketplace. The proposed model hypothesized that (1) trust is a function of network externality, interactivity, justice, quality of information sharing, institutional assurance, (2) attitudinal and behavioral commitment is a function of trust, (3) behavioral commitment is a function of attitudinal commitment. The proposed model is tested using organizational-level survey data from 187 buying organizations that conduct business in MRO e-Marketplaces. The data were tested by reliability test, correlation analysis, exploratory factor analysis, confirmatory factor analysis and covariance structure analysis. The results indicate that (1) trust is influenced by network externality, interactivity, justice, institutional assurance, (2) attitudinal commitment and behavioral commitment is influenced by trust (3) behavioral commitment is influenced by attitudinal commitment. Also, the empirical results confirmed that trust play a strong, central role in determinging e-Marketplace commitment. The key theoretical contribution of this research is that it begins to extend interorganizational information system literature in areas such as B2B Internet e-Marketplace. Managerially, this study contributes tn the understanding of the role of B2B e-Markeplace providers in Internet situation. And Limitations of this study and guidelines for future researches are also discussed.

  • Because of its stable quantity and quality, groundwater has long been a reliable source of drinking water for domestic users. Rapid economic growth and rising standards of living have in recent years put severe demands on drinking water supplies in Korea. Groundwaters that are currently being used for natural mineral water were hydrochemically evaluated and investigated in order to maintain their quality to satisfy strict health standards. There exist 15 natural mineral water plants in the Okcheon metamorphic belt. Characteristics of groundwaters are different from those of other areas in that electrical conductivity, hardness, contents of Ca, Mg and $HCO_3$are relatively high. The content of major cations is in the order of Ca>Mg, Na>K, whereas that of major anions shows the order of $HCO_3$>$SO_4$>Cl>F. The fact that the Ca-Mg-HCO$_3$type is mostly predominant among water types reflects that dissolution of carbonates that are abundantly present in the metamorphic rocks plays an important part in groundwater chemistry. Representative correlation coefficients between chemical species show Mg-$HCO_3$(0.92), Ca-$HCO_3$(0.88), Ca-Mg(0.80), Ca-Cl(0.78), Mg-$SO_4$(0.78), Ca-$SO_4$(0.71), possibly due to the effect by dissolution of carbonates, gypsum or anhydrite. Determinative coefficients between some chemical species represent a good relationship, especially for EC-(K+Na+Ca), Ca-$HCO_3$, Ca-Mg, indiacting that they are similar in chemical behaviors. According to saturation index, most chemical species are undersaturated with respect to major minerals, except for some silica phases. Groundwater is slightly undersaturated with respect to calcite and dolomite, whereas it is still greatly undersaturated with respect to gypsum, anhydrite and fluorite, Based on the Phase equilibrium in the systems $NA_2$O-$Al_2$$O_3$-$SiO_2$-$H_2$O and $K_2$O-$Al_2$$O_3$-$SiO_2$-$H_2$O, it is clear that groundwater is in equilibrium with kaolinite, evolved from the stability area of gibbsite during water-rock interaction. It is expected that chemical evolution of groundwater continue to proceed with increasing pH by reaction of feldspars, with calcite much less reactive.

  • The purpose of this study was to promote effective health management of orthodontics patients by determining the effect that the factors related to orthodontics would have on the Oral Health Impact Profile (OHIP), and the subjects of this study was the local residents of Gangwon-do Province. The mean score of OHIP for the subjects was 2.97, while the mean score of physical factor was 3.01. The mean score of psychological factor was found to be 2.93. Thus, the orthodontics was found to have more influence on psychological factor. The item that had the greatest influence among the 10 items of Oral Health Impact Profile was found to be the question, "Have you ever felt shy due to your dental shape?" which had the mean score of 2.66. The characteristics that had significant effect on OHIP among general characteristics were found to be the age, religion, occupation, income, smoking or non-smoking status(p<0.05). In terms of the age, the age of 20 or less had the greatest effect with the mean score of 2.53. In relation to the occupation, the production/sales occupation had an influence with the mean score of 2.56 (p<0.05). Those with income exceeding KRW 4 million were found to have the mean score of 2.83 and 2.78. It turned out that the smokers had greater effect compared to the non-smokers in relation to the smoking/non-smoking status as the income was higher (p<0.05). The characteristics of orthodontics were manifested as the health perception in relation to Oral Health Impact Profile (OHIP) (p<0.05). Regarding the reason why they underwent the orthodontics, the 'uncomfortable feeling in chewing' was found to have the mean score of 2.69 and 2.67 (p<0.05). Regarding the orthodontics period, 1 to 2 years were found to have the mean score of 2.80 and 2.74, thus having an influence (p<0.05). In relation to the regret/non-regret over orthodontics, those who indicated that they regretted were found to have the mean score of 2.65 and 2.60 (p<0.05). Analysis of the relationship between Characteristics of orthodontic treatment and OHIP, orthodontic treatment reasons, oral health awareness, whether orthodontic treatment regret showed a statistically significant correlation. it is considered necessary to make constant efforts to help orthodontics patients, both physically and psychologically, in the course of treatment and improve their quality of lives.

  • Customer satisfaction is important in an increasingly competitive and global marketplace. This implies that customer service is a critical factor for many organizations. In service encounter context, customer satisfaction is affected by employees' attitudes and behaviors. Accordingly, service firms have been focusing on selecting high quality of service employees, which resulted the ability to identify and select quality service- or customer- oriented employees to become critical for an organization's success. It was suggested that customer service orientation links to performance and subsequent organizational revenue. Moreover, it was found that service encounter failures were among the major reasons for customers' service switch. Therefore, the selection of customer service oriented employees is a key factor in establishing customer service - a potential source of sustained competitive advantage. However, the measurement of employee service orientation is more confusing than that of definitive answers. The difficulty of measuring service orientation is attributed to the use of broad versus narrow measures of personality. Advocates for the broad perspective prefer using basic personality constructs, such as the Big Five personality traits. On the contrary, the latter prefer a construct-oriented approach of personality research that provides a better measure of job performance because it requires the specification of the relationship of the personality traits with multiple dimensions of job performance. The customer service orientation was defined as "a set of basic individual predispositions and an inclination to provide service, to be courteous and to be helpful in dealing with customers and associates." Similarly, it is a fact that the Big five personality traits are predictors of customer orientation, and employee's self- and supervisor performance. They propose that basic personality traits may be too far removed from focal service behaviors to be able to predict specific service behaviors (customer orientation) and service worker performance. Also, customer orientation is defined as "an employee's tendency or predisposition to meet customer needs in an on-the-job context." This means that people who have job-relevant personality traits such as concern, empathy, and conscientiousness will be more adept at customer service than people who do not possess these traits. However, little attention has been given to the exploration of the service orientation of customer-contact employees who play a key role in creating satisfactory service encounters in the hospitality industry except for Kim, McCahon, & Miller (2003)'s study, especially in family restaurants context. Thus, the purposes of this study are to examine and validate the customer service orientation of customer-contact employees using the instrument developed by Donavan (1999) in Korean family restaurants, because the scale was developed to measure the personality traits related job behaviors. And this study explores the relationships between customer service orientation, job satisfaction, organizational commitment, and self service performance using structural equation modeling (SEM). And this study explores the relationships between customer service orientation, job satisfaction, organizational commitment, and self service performance using structural equation modeling (SEM). For these purposes the author developed several hypotheses as follows: H1: Employee's service orientation is associated with service performance. H2: Employee's service orientation is positively associated with job satisfaction. H3: Employee's service orientation is positively associated with organizational commitment. H4: Service performance is positively associated with job satisfaction. H5: Service performance is positively associated with organizational commitment. H6: Job satisfaction is negatively associated with organizational commitment. The data were collected from 278 employees in 5 deluxe hotels located in Pusan, Korea. The researcher contacted the manager of the restaurants, and managers consented to administer surveys to their employees. The survey was executed during one month period in the October of 2007. The data were analyzed with structural equation modeling with LISREL 8.7 W. The result of the overall model analysis appeared as follows: $X^2$=122.638 (p = 0.00), df=59, GFI=.936, AGFI=.901, NFI=.948, CFI=.971, RMSEA=.0625. Since the result of the overall model analysis demonstrated a good fit, we could further analyze our data. The findings can be summarized as follows: First, the greater the employee service orientation, the greater the service performance. Second, the greater the employee service orientation, the greater the job satisfaction. Third, the greater the employee service orientation, the greater the organizational commitment. Fourth, the greater the service performance, the greater the job satisfaction. Fifth, the greater the service performance, the greater the organizational commitment. Finally, the greater the job satisfaction, the greater the organizational commitment. Seventh, the greater the customer satisfaction, the greater the customer loyalty.

  • Chronic illness requiring attention and management during a long period of time puts great burden onto patients, their family and society. For patients with chronic illnesses, providing social support is the most important, and the fundamental support comes from their spouses. Amount and quality of support from spouses seems to differentiated according to the sex of patients. Female patients tend to believe that their spouses are not very supportive. Therefore, the researchers assessed the burden of husbands of female arthritis patients to discover the factors that result in greater burden. Also, they developed a theoretical model of husbands′ care for their wives through a qualitative research into husbands′ experience. Method 1: The study material was 650 female arthritis patients registered in an arthritis clinic. The questionnaire about the disease experience of female arthritis patients and the burden of husbands were sent. Returned questionnaires numbered 210(32.3%) and 27 were excluded because of inadequate answers. The remaining 183 questionnaires were analyzed. The mean age of the patients was 51 years and the mean age of spouses was 55 years. The mean marital period was 28 years. The average duration since diagnosis was 9.1 years. Education level was varied from primary school to graduate school, and average income/month was 1,517,300 won. Method 2: Initial questionnaire studies on the burden of husbands were performed. Among 183 responding husbands, 23 consented to participate for a qualitative research. Data was obtained by direct and telephone interviews. The mean age of participants was 58 years, and the educational level and socioeconomic status also varied. Result: 1. Husbands′ burden: The average burden was 57.68 with a range of 6-96. 2. Burden and general characteristics: The husband′s burden correlated with the age of the patients, numbers in the family, therapy methods, patient′s level of discomfort, patient′s disease severity, patient′s level of dependence and the husband′s understanding of the level of severity. 3. Linear correlation analysis on burden: The husbands′ burden is explained in 22.5% by husband′s recognition of level of severity and husbands′ age. 4. There were four patterns of the burden on husbands: both objectve burden and subjective burden were high(pattern I), both of objectve burden and subjective burden were low(pattern II), objective burden was high but subjective burden was low(pattern III), objective burden was low but subjective burden was high(pattern IV). The pattern was correlated with the family income, educational level of the patients and their husbands, therapy methods, patient′s level of discomfort, patient′s disease severity, patient′s level of dependence and husband′s understanding of level of severity. 5. The core category of the caring experience of the husbands with arthritis patients was "companionship". The causal factor was the patients′ experience due to symptoms : physical disfigurement, pain, immobility, limitation of house chores, and limitation of social activities. Contextural factors are husbands′ identification of housework and husbands′ concern about the disease. The mediating factors are economic problems, fear of aging, feeling of limitation and family support. The strategy for interaction is mind control and how to solve emotional stress. The "companionship" resulted from caring activities, participation of household activities, helping patients′ to coping with emotional experience. 6. Companionship is established through the process of entering intervention, and caring state of mind. Entering intervention is the phase of participation of therapy and involvement of houseworks. The caring phase consists of decision on therapy, providing therapy, providing direct care, and taking over the household role of wife. Through caring phase, the changing phase set a stage in which husbands consolidate the relationship with their wives, and are reminded of the meaning of marriage. As a result, in changing phase, husbands′ companionship is enhanced. In conclusion, nursing care of chronic illnesses should include a family member especially the spouse. All information on disease shoud be provided to patients and whole family member. Strong support should also be provided to overcome difficulties in taking over role of other sex. Then the quality of life of patients and families will be much improved.

  • This study was conducted to investigate factors affecting the bone density of university students in the Seoul area. Data for food habits, and dietary and health-related behavior was obtained by self-administered questionnaires. BQI (bone quality index) of the subjects was measured by a Quantitative Ultrasound (QUS). The results are summarized as follows. The average height, weight, BMI and osteopenia percentage were 175.4cm, 69.3kg, 22.5 and 15.6% for male students, and 161.5cm, 55.9kg, 21.7 and 34.1%, for female students, respectively. The mean BQI of the subjects was 110.25 (range 60.7 ~ 176.8) in male students and 90.64 (range 52.9 ~ 137.5) in female students. Height and weight were significantly related with BQI in the female group but the relationship with BMI was not significantly related with bone density in either group. BQI was positively affected by nutrition supplement in the male student group. One-side eating, diet, and intake of milk and instant food were not significantly related with BQI in males or females. The results of this study revealed that desirable food habits, dietary behavior and health-related lifestyle may have a beneficial effect on bone density. There should be established a practically and systematically organized nutritional education on optimum body weight, good eating habits, weight bearing exercise and intakes of good quality nutrient for higher bone density level.
