Minimizing the MOLAP/ROLAP Divide: You Can Have Your Performance and Scale It Too

  • Over the past generation, data warehousing and online analytical processing (OLAP) applications have become the cornerstone of contemporary decision support environments. Typically, OLAP servers are implemented on top of either proprietary array-based storage engines (MOLAP) or as extensions to conventional relational DBMSs (ROLAP). While MOLAP systems do indeed provide impressive performance on common analytics queries, they tend to have limited scalability. Conversely, ROLAP's table oriented model scales quite nicely, but offers mediocre performance at best relative to the MOLAP systems. In this paper, we describe a storage and indexing framework that aims to provide both MOLAP like performance and ROLAP like scalability by essentially combining some of the best features from both. Based upon a combination of R-trees and bitmap indexes, the storage engine has been integrated with a robust OLAP query engine prototype that is able to fully exploit the efficiency of the proposed storage model. Specifically, it utilizes an OLAP algebra coupled with a domain specific query optimizer, to map user queries directly to the storage and indexing framework. Experimental results demonstrate that not only does the design improve upon more naive approaches, but that it does indeed offer the potential to optimize both query performance and scalability.

  • Purpose - To understand the growing interests in the professional temporary workforce, this study aimed to examine the different types of professional temporary workers and their different effects on creative performance. Design/methodology/approach - By sub-classifying professional temporary workers as boundaryless workers and transitional workers, this study developed propositions to provide comprehensive framework for directing meaningful topics for future research on professional temporary workers. Findings - This study suggested that two types of professional temporary workers may differ significantly in terms of their work efforts for getting approval or acceptance from the team members and for achieving creative contributions in teams. Specifically, drawing on expectance theory, social identity theory and resource-based theory, this study discussed the relationship between acceptance(task-oriented vs. relational-oriented acceptance), employment duration(short-term status vs. long-term status), contract security(volition being temporary worker) and creative performance for boundaryless workers versus transitional workers. Research implications or Originality - This study have implications for increasing our understanding of professional temporary workers by showing that creative performance may vary by employment types.

  • The modem society has been talked as the age of uncertainty, the age discontinuity and the information society. The future society is forcasted the creativity society. Both the achievement motive and the creativity be suggested as an important factors to accomplish the individual goals and organizational performance. The achievement motive has the major implications in increasing the level of achievement motive between high and low creative group. The employee creativity is the emergence in action of a novel relational product, growing out of the uniqueness of the individual on the hand, and materals, events people or cirumstances of his life on the other. It has been treated as an impotant factor to solve the complex management ploblems for the management. The major purpose of this study are (1) to review the theory of an achievement motivation and the creativity, (2) to provide both management and scholars with the practical and useful implications on the development of the employee cretivity in improving the management performance.

Performance Study of the Index-based Parallel Join

  • The index file has been used a access database records effectively. The join operation in a relational database system requires a large execution time, especially in the case of handling large size tables. If the indexes are available on the joining attributes for both relations involved in the join and the join selectivity is relatively small, we can improve the execution time of the join operation. In this paper. we investigate the performance trade-offs of parallel index-based join algorithms where different indexing schemes are used. We also present a comparison of our index-based parallel join algorithms with the hash-based parallel join algorithm.

  • Third party logistics research is searching for increasing its logistics efficiency of organization. Perspective of resource-based theory, this study is to reveal the exploratory relation between integrated capabilities, organzaiton knowledge, and service performance. To develop the relational model, this study conducted a theoretical survey on Shang(2009)'s 3PL service providers research model and Synder & Cumming(1998)'s learning of organization knowledge. According to the result of correlation analysis, Integrated organization knowledge is positively correlated with service diversity advantage (correlation coefficient= .670, p-value= .000) and service quality advantage (correlation coefficient= .575, p-value= .000). The thesis argued that Korean companies try to apply integrated organization abilities and service performance for cutting their export expense.

  • We propose an indexing technique and an index selection algorithm for optimal OLAP query processing in object database systems, Although there are many research results on the relational database systems for OLAP Query processing, few researches have been done on the object database systems. Since OLAP queries represent complex business logic on a huge data ware-house, object database systems supporting the OLAP queries should have higher performance. Proposed bitmap index structure is an extension of conventional bitmap indexes for adapting object databases and provides higher performance with lower space overhead. We also propose a linear time solution of the index selection problem that will be used in the OLAP query optimization process.

구매자와 공급자 간 협력활동이 신뢰 및 성과에 미치는 영향: 거버넌스의 조절효과를 중심으로 (Impacts of Buyer-Supplier Cooperation on Trust and Performance: Moderating Role of Governance Mechanism)

  • Purpose - This paper aims to examine the impact of buyer-supplier cooperation on suppliers' trust on buyers and the moderating role of buyers' governance mechanism between the sharing activities and trust. Research design, data, and methodology - An integrated research model is designed to materialize the research hypotheses. First, the impact of buyer-supplier cooperation is empirically analyzed by looking into how the sharing activities, in the field of information, resource, and knowledge, of buyer with supplier will affect the trust of supplier on buyer. Second, the moderating effect of contract-based governance mechanism of buyer is empirically analyzed. Third, the influence of trust on innovation performance of suppler is empirically analyzed. Results - Our findings provide supporting evidence for some of our hypotheses. First, all of the sharing activities are significantly influential, but in different degree, to trust of supplier. Second, contract-based governance mechanism of buyer have a moderating effect on the relationship between sharing activities and trust, positively in resource-sharing activities, negatively in information-sharing activities, not significant in knowledge-sharing activities. Third, supplier's trust on buyer positively affects supplier's own innovation performance. Conclusions - The strategies applied in supply chain management have become important as the competition among firms has shifted from competition between individual firms to competition between supply chains. A customer's sharing activities with its supplier may contribute to an increase in innovation performance. The supplier's information-sharing activity with its customer could affect its information-sharing activities with its main supplier. Cooperative activity with a partner in the supply chain is cultivated and amassed into relationship knowledge, and this study shows that the cooperative relational knowledge related to information-sharing activities enables firms to participate in sharing activities with their main suppliers. Increasing evidence shows that sharing various activities between buyer and supplier improves trust and performance outcomes, and enables firms to maintain competitive advantage. From the perspective of knowledge theory, external knowledge is becoming more important in firms' innovation activities, because innovative knowledge is acquired primarily through interaction with another organization. In addition, relationship learning could be an important tool in absorbing the supplier's core technology, information, expertise, and core competencies, increasing relational value.

거래의 관계특성이 기업간 전자상거래 성과에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구 (The Effects of Relational Characteristics on the Performance of Business-to-Business Electronic Commerce)

  • 기업의 환경이 날로 복잡해지고 치열해짐에 따라 기업에서는 정보통신기술을 전략적으로 활용하여 경영혁신을 추진하고 있다. 특히 기업 간의 반복적인 거래업무가 빈번할 경우 기존의 서류교환방식으로는 급증하는 문서관리비용, 재고비용 등을 감당하기 어려울 뿐만 아니라 고객의 요구에 신속하게 반응하지 못하는 문제가 대두되었다. 이에 기존의 서류교환방식에서 전자적 문서거래방식 즉, EDI로 전환함으로써 업무혁신을 추구하는 사례가 급증하고 있다. 이러한 EDI는 기본적으로 기업 간 거래문서의 표준화, 통신프로토콜의 표준화를 요구하지만 EDI를 활용하는 기업의 급증과 통신기술의 비약적인 발전에 의해 이러한 문제점을 개선하고 최근에는 조달업무, 무역, 운송, 보험, 금융 등의 다양한 분야에서 활용되고 있다. 본 연구는 전자상거래의 여러 가지 유형 중에서 기업간 전자상거래(Business-to-Business EC)에 관심을 두고 있다. 특히 기업간 전자상거래의 통신프로토콜 중의 하나인 전자문서교환(EDI) 방식에 초점을 맞추고 있다. 거래의 관계특성이 EDI를 도입한 기업의 성과에 어떠한 영향을 미치는가를 보고 있다. 기존의 EDI 관련 연구에서는 거래당사자들간의 정보교환에 의한 비용절감, 내부운영향상 등과 같은 성과에만 초점을 맞추어 왔다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 거래의 관계특성, 즉 의사소통, 신뢰, 갈등, 그리고 몰입간의 관계를 알아보고. 이러한 관계특성이 조직적 성과에 어떠한 영향을 미치는가를 검증하고 있다. 분석결과를 살펴보면, 거래상대방과의 의사소통이 원활하게 이루어질수록 거래상대방에 대한 신뢰와 EDI에의 몰입이 증가하는 것으로 나타났고, EDI에의 몰입수준이 높을수록 EDI에 의한 조직적 성과가 높아지는 것으로 나타났다. 신뢰의 경우 비록 가설은 기각되었지만 성과에 간접적으로 미미하게 영향을 미치는 것으로 예측할 수 있다. 반면 거래의 관계특성 중에서 갈등의 경우에는 연구자가 예상했던 것과는 달리 모든 가설이 기각되었다.

MongoDB 기반의 분산 침입탐지시스템 성능 평가 (Evaluation of Distributed Intrusion Detection System Based on MongoDB)

  • IoT, 클라우드 컴퓨팅과 같은 인터넷 서비스의 발전과 사용량의 증가로 인해 수많은 패킷들이 인터넷상에서 빠르게 생성되고 있다. 안전한 인터넷 사용 환경을 만들기 위해서는 이 수많은 패킷 중에 존재할 수 있는 악성 데이터의 빠른 처리가 이뤄져야 한다. 본 논문에서는 빅데이터 보안 이벤트의 신속한 처리를 위해 비정형 데이터 분석과 빅데이터 처리에 특화된 MongoDB를 침입탐지시스템에 적용하였다. 또한 보호 대상인 사설 클라우드의 일부 자원을 이용하여 침입탐지시스템을 구축함으로써 증가 또는 감소하는 보안 이벤트 수에 따라 탄력적으로 컴퓨팅 자원 재구성이 가능하도록 하였다. 본 논문에서 제안하는 MongoDB 기반 침입탐지시스템의 성능을 평가하기 위하여 MongoDB 기반의 침입탐지시스템과 기존의 관계형 데이터 베이스를 기반으로 한 침입탐지시스템의 프로토타입을 구축하고 성능을 비교하였다. 또한 분산화 구성에 따른 성능 변화를 확인하기 위하여 가상머신의 수를 변경하며 성능 변화를 확인하였다. 그 결과 전체적으로 MongoDB 환경에서 동일한 성능의 시스템을 분산화시켜 가상 머신의 수를 증가시킬수록 침입탐지시스템의 성능이 향상되는 것을 확인하였다. 분산 MongoDB 기반의 보안 이벤트 저장 속도가 관계형 데이터베이스 기반에 비해 최대 60%, 그리고 분산 MongoDB 기반의 침입 데이터 탐지 속도가 관계형 데이터베이스 기반에 비해 최대 100% 빠른 결과를 얻었다.

A Decision Support Model for Financial Performance Evaluation of Listed Companies in The Vietnamese Retailing Industry

  • This paper aims to propose a Comprehensive Decision Support Model to evaluate retail companies' financial performance traded on the Vietnam Stock Exchange Market. The financial performance has been examined in terms of the valuations ratios, profitability ratios, growth rates, liquidity ratios, efficiency ratios, and leverage ratios. The data of twelve companies from the first quarter to the fourth quarter of 2019 and the first quarter of 2020 were employed. The weights of 18 chosen financial ratios are calculated by using the Standard Deviation method (SD). Grey Relational Analysis technique was applied to obtain the final ranking of each company in each quarter. The results showed that leverage ratios have the most significant impact on the retail companies' financial performance and gives some long-term investment recommendations for stakeholders and indicated that the Taseco Air Services Joint Stock Company (AST), Mobile World Investment Corporation (MWG), and Cam Ranh International Airport Services Joint Stock Company (CIA) are three of the top efficient companies. The three of the worst companies are Viglacera Corporation (VGC), Saigon General Service Corporation (SVC), and HocMon Trade Joint Stock Company (HTC). Furthermore, this study suggests that the GRA model could be implemented effectively to ranking companies of other industries in the future research.
