In this study, researches for the development of antibiotics and antimicrobial concrete were conducted to reduce biochemical corrosion of sewage concrete. First of all, desired performance, such as watertightness, antibiosis, homogeneity, workability and harmlessness, was proposed and performance of antibiotics and antimicrobial concrete were evaluated by them. As results of this study, dispersibility and antibiosis of liquid antibiotics superior to powdery antibiotics. Antibiosis of antimicrobial concrete was verified, and amount of elution of harmful and effective ingredients was little. In workability, setting time of antimicrobial concrete was delayed. Compressive strength and resistance to carbonation of antimicrobial concrete were more increased than ordinary concrete. Also, as little pore volume and closed structure of antimicrobial concrete were observed, watertightness of it was verified. Finally artificial accelerating test for biochemical corrosion was proposed, and its suitability was experimentally proved.

The acoustic emission (AE) behavior of reinforced concrete beams tested under flexural loading was investigated to characterize and identify the source of damage. This research was aimed at identifying the characteristic AE response associated with micro-crack development, localized crack propagation, corrosion, and debonding of the reinforcing steel. Concrete beams were prepared to isolate the damage mechanisms by using plain, notched-plain, reinforced, and corroded-reinforced specimens. The beams were tested using four-point cyclic step-loading. The AE response was analyzed to obtain key parameters such as the time history of AE events, the total number and rate of AE events, and the characteristic features of the waveform. Initial analysis of the AE signal has shown that a clear difference in the AE response is observed depending on the source of the damage. The Felicity ratio exhibited a correlation with the overall damage level, while the number of AE events during unloading can be an effective criterion to estimate the level of corrosion distress in reinforced concrete structures. Consequently, AE measurement characterization appears to provide a promising approach for estimating the level of deterioration in reinforced concrete structure.
FREP(Fiber Reinforced Epoxy Panel) are used for strengthening the damaged RC beams due to its good tensile strength, low weight, resistance to corrosion, and easy applicability. This study sets up structure equation for FREP bending reinforcement before and during the usage of RC beam. It finds the difference and finds the mechanical characteristics of rip-off failure that is caused by stress concentration in reinforcement material cutting part to estimate the performance of bending reinforcement. The result of this research can be summarized as two main consequences. The main failure of FREP reinforced concrete beam is rip-off failure and it evaluated rip-off failure of RC reinforcing bean based on the test and analytical conditions of this study. It found that stress was concentrated due to rapid change of bending rigidity in reinforced cutting part as a result of excessive reinforcement thickness of FREP. It resulted in rip-off failure. It means that it should evaluate the rip-off failure when designing reinforcement. It analyzed the reinforcement effect according to reinforced period for FREP. It found that reinforcement effect of P-Type that was reinforced during the usage decreased compared to I-Type that was reinforced before the usage. So when reinforcing a existing structure that is being used, it should consider the stress that is produced due to the fixed load.

Recently, as the service life of structures increased, the load-carrying capacity of deteriorated reinforced concrete, where corrosion of reinforcing bars occurs due to various causes, is frequently decreased. In order to address this problem, many studies on the bond characteristic of FRP (Fiber Reinforced Polymer) bars with corrosion resistance, light weight and high tensile strength have been conducted, however there are not many studies on the bond characteristic of grid-typed CFRP embedded in concrete. Therefore, in order to evaluate the bond characteristics of grid-typed CFRP and its usability as a substitute for steel rebar, a pull-out test is performed using the longitudinal bond length and transverse grid length of the grid-typed CFRP as variables. Through the pull-out test, the bond load-slip curve of the grid-typed CFRP is derived, and the bond behavior is analyzed. The total bond load equation is proposed as the sum of the bond force of the longitudinal bond length and the shear force of the grid in the transverse direction. Also, expressing the area of the bond load-slip curve as total work, the change in dissipated energy with respect to the slip is analyzed to examine the effect of the tranverse grid on the bond force.

A reinforced concrete building neighboring in Pusan or Ulsan where is directly exposed to salt water contrasting with other in land areas contains much salt content percolated from the outside that the high salt content percolates and diffuses through the inside of reinforced concrete; therefore, an immovable tunic surrounding it begins to be destroyed and eroded with high speed. At the time, the cross-sectional area and volume expansion of re-bar reinforcing result in being cracks make a rapid progress gradually until they appear in the surface of the one, the phenomenon such as being a thin layer or falling off the part of it causes a lowering of its durability and might collapse the concrete construction. So far, we've investigated into salt content of reinforced concrete constructions neighboring in a seaside district and damage by carbonation, and we came to a conclusion as follows: $\circled1$ Under the oceanic circumstance a concrete construction is influenced by sea water directly that contains much amount of salt content contrasting with other constructions on inland areas. $\circled2$ Because of chloride penetration the carbonation of reinforced concrete made a rapid progress until more than the covering thickness of re-bar. $\circled3$ An old reinforced concrete building which has been piled up salt injury and proceeding the carbonation of its cross-sectional area. $\circled4$ According to rapidly cracking from the inside to surface of reiforced concrete, the phenomenon of being a thin layer or falling off the part of reinforced concrete results in a lowering of durability and shortening the life-time of concrete construction itself.
Though steel reinforcing bars are the most widely used tensile reinforcement, corrosion problems are encountered due to the exposure to aggressive environments. As an alternative material to steel, the fiber reinforced polymers have been used as reinforcement in concrete structures. However, bond strength of FRP rebar is relatively low compared to steel rebar. It has been reported that fibers in matrix can resist crack growth, propagation and finally result in an increase of toughness. In this study, high-strength concrete reinforced with structural fibers was produced to enhance interfacial bond behavior between FRP rebar and concrete matrix. The interfacial bond-behaviors were investigated from a direct pullout test. The test variables were surface conditions of GFRP bars and fiber types. Total of 54 pullout specimens with three different types of bars were cast for bond strength tests. The bond strength-slip responses and resistance of the bond failure were evaluated. The test results showed that the bond strength and toughness increased according to the increased fiber volume.

Fiber reinforced polymeric plastic (FRP) materials have many advantages over conventional structural materials, i.e., high specific strength and stiffness, high corrosion resistance, right weight, etc. Among the various manufacturing methods, pultrusion process is one of the best choices for the mass production of structural plastic members. Since the major reinforcing fibers are placed along the axial direction of the member, this material is usually considered as an orthotropic material. However, pultruded FRP (PFRP) structural members have low modulus of elasticity and are composed of orthotropic thin plate components the members are prone to buckle. Therefore, stability is an important issue in the design of the pultruded FRP structural members. Many researchers have conducted related studies to publish the design method of FRP structures and recently, referred to the previous researches, pre-standard for LRFD of pultruded FRP structures is presented. In this paper, the accuracy and suitability of design equation for the local buckling strength of pultruded FRP I-shape compression members presented by ASCE are estimated. In the estimation, we compared the results obtained by design equation, closed-form solution, and experiments conducted by previous researches.
Glass fiber reinforced polymer (GFRP) bars are sometimes used when corrosion of conventional reinforcing steel bar is of concern. In this study, a total of 36 beams and one-way slabs reinforced using GFRP bars were tested in flexure. Four different GFRP bars of 13 mm diameter were used in the test program. In most test specimens, the GFRP bars were lap spliced at center. All beams and slabs were tested under 4-point loads so that the spliced region be subject to constant moment. Test variables were splice lengths, cover thicknesses, and bar spacings. No stirrups were used in the spliced region so that the tests result in conservative bond strengths. Average bond stresses that develop between GFRP bars and concrete were determined through nonlinear analysis of the cross-sections. An average bond stress prediction equation was derived utilizing two-variable linear regression. A splice length equation based on 5% fractile concept was then developed. As a result of this study, a rational equation with which design splice lengths of the GFRP bars can be determined, was proposed.

Recently, the research of FRP bar as an alternative reinforcing material in reinforced concrete structures has increased to get an innovative solution to the corrosion problem. In addition to the noncorrosive nature of FRP materials, they also have a high strength-to-weight ratio. Therefore, when light weight concrete reinforced with FRP bar is used in marine environment, for instance floating structures, some advantages can be expected. But researches for the light weight concrete structure using FRP bar as a flexural reinforcement are limited to date. In this paper, the concrete shear contribution of the light weight concrete beam reinforced with GFRP bar was studied. Experiment for beams varying concrete compressive strengths and flexural reinforcement ratios was conducted and analysed. The test results showed that 75% of values obtained from proposed equation in preceding research were well agreed with the test results and were better results than the one predicted by the ACI 440.1R-06 code.

Rock Bolt generally utilizes deformed reinforcing bar welded from structural steel of which strength is higher than required for making advantageous use of the support function of ground. In the condition with highly corrosive underground water, however, problem frequently occurs on tunnel and slope stabilization in terms of repair, rehabilitation and maintenance issues due to the destruction of Rock Bolt by corrosion of steel. A structural performance evaluation for GFRP Rock Bolt was conducted for the purpose of resolving the foregoing problem and at the same time developing a permanently-usable support material. This study intended to evaluate the safety factor of GFRP Rock Bolt by implementing the slope stability interpretation via structural analysis on the basis of its structural characteristics derived from both tensile force function test and shear force function test. It is judged based on the results that GFRP Rock Bolt would secure sufficient ground stability as an alternative material for existing Steel Rock Bolt.
