  • In order to evaluate the effect of hybrid fibers on the flexural performance of tunnel segment at room temperature, twelve reinforced self-consolidating concrete (SCC) symmetric inclination beams containing steel fiber, macro polypropylene fiber, micro polypropylene fiber, and their hybridizations were studied under combined loading of flexure and axial compression. The results indicate that the addition of mono steel fiber and hybrid fibers can enhance the ultimate bearing capacity and cracking behavior of tested beams. These improvements can be further enhanced along with increasing the content of steel fiber and macro PP fiber, but reduced with the increase of the reinforcement ratio of beams. The hybrid effect of steel fiber and macro PP fiber was the most obvious. However, the addition of micro PP fibers led to a degradation to the flexural performance of reinforced beams at room temperature. Meanwhile, the hybrid use of steel fiber and micro polypropylene fiber didn't present an obvious improvement to SCC beams. Compared to micro polypropylene fiber, the macro polypropylene fiber plays a more prominent role on affecting the structural behavior of SCC beams. A calculation method for ultimate bearing capacity of flexural SCC symmetric inclination beams at room temperature by taking appropriate effect of hybrid fibers into consideration was proposed. The prediction results using the proposed model are compared with the experimental data in this study and other literature. The results indicate that the proposed model can estimate the ultimate bearing capacity of SCC symmetric inclination beams containing hybrid fibers subjected to combined action of flexure and axial compression at room temperature.

  • The behavior of 8 steel reinforced high-strength concrete (SRHSC) columns, which comprised of four identical columns with cross-shaped steel and other four identical columns with square steel tube, was investigated experimentally under cyclic uniaxial and biaxial loading independently. The influence of steel configuration and loading path on the global behavior of SRHSC columns in terms of failure process, hysteretic characteristics, stiffness degradation and ductility were investigated and discussed, as well as stress level of the longitudinal and transverse reinforcing bars and steel. The research results indicate that with a same steel ratio deformation capacity of steel reinforced concrete columns with a square steel tube is better than the one with a cross-shaped steel. Loading path affects hysteretic characteristics of the specimens significantly. Under asymmetrical loading path, hysteretic characteristics of the specimens are also asymmetry. Compared with specimens under unidirectional loading, specimens subjected to bidirectional loading have poor carrying capacity, fast stiffness degradation, small yielding displacement, poor ductility and small ultimate failure drift. It also demonstrates that loading paths affect the deformation capacity or deformation performance significantly. Longitudinal reinforcement yielding occurs before the peak load is attained, while steel yielding occurs at the peak load. During later displacement loading, strain of longitudinal and transverse reinforcing bars and steel of specimens under biaxial loading increased faster than those of specimens subjected to unidirectional loading. Therefore, the bidirectional loading path has great influence on the seismic performance such as carrying capacity and deformation performance, which should be paid more attentions in structure design.

  • An energy loss through the window system occupies about 10 to 30 percent on energy consumption of the whole building. That is the reason, several elements for a building composition of window system are the weakest from the heat. Insulation performance increases for the reducing heat loss. Heat transfer through the window system that is reducing heat transfer through conduction, convection and radiation. Insulation performance reinforcement methods classify improving heat specific quality of window system and improving efficiency of whole window system. The most application method among each methods is reducing emission ratio of the window system(Low-E glass), increasing a number of glazing(multiple window) and a method of vacuuming between glazing and glazing. Therefore this study is investigated a sort of glazing and specific character, U-value calculation with changing glazing thickness and calculation of temperature distribution and U-value with a glazing charging gas kind from double glazing. For a conclusion, an aspect of U-value figure at the smallest value case of vacuum glazing with Low-E coating. That means insulation efficiency is the best advantage during a building plan selecting vacuum glazing with Low-E coating for a energy saving aspect. In this way, U-value become different the number of glazing, coating whether or not and selecting injection gas. Therefore selecting of glazing is very important after due consideration by a characteristic and use of building and consideration of strong point and weak point.

  • It is considered in this paper that the main causes of tunnel collapse during the construction were the insufficiency of data of geotechnical investigations, or their limits due to special ground condition such as its heterogeneity and anisotropy It is thought that safety of ground can be affected by the geological conditions such as presences of discontinuities in good intact rocks, and considered to be necessary that awareness of the conditions of discontinuities in advance is important to apply adequate reinforcement measures. It is also shown that a serious accident had occurred because of the unawareness of the permeable alluvial deposits at the top of the tunnel. And it is shown that the example of application of the results of geotechnical investigation such as face-mapping, pilot boring etc. during tunnel construction, and a serious deformation of tunnel under special geological condition. Therefore, it is strongly recommended to perform an adequate geotechnical investigation to confirm the geotechnical conditons of ground before design, and supplimentary investigation is also needed depending on conditions for safe and econonic construction.

  • This paper investigates the shear properties of crumb rubber-bottom ash mixture reinforced by waste fishing net (WFN). Mixtures used in this experiment consist of crumb rubber and bottom ash (2mm~10mm) with the same weight ratio. In this study several series of direct shear tests were carried out on the five different specimens : unreinforced mixture, reinforced mixtures with 1 or 2 single-layered WFN, reinforced mixtures with 1 or 2 double-layered WFN. The experimental results indicated that the shear properties of reinforced crumb rubber-bottom ash mixture were strongly influenced by reinforcing layer of WFN. It was found that the shear strength and internal friction angle of the mixtures increased with an increase in reinforcing layer of WFN due to interlocking effect and friction between mixture and WFN.

  • The rapid-set cement concrete causes high hydration temperature and nay result in a high drying shrinkage and shrinkage-induced cracking. This problem may be fixed by incorporating polypropylene fibers in rapid-set cement concrete, because of increased toughness, resistance to impact, corrosion, fatigue, and durability. A series of concrete drving shrinkage tests was peformed in order to investigate the shrinkage properties of polypropylene fiber reinforced concrete with experimental variables such as concrete types, fiber reinforcement, W/C ratio, with and without restraint. Uni-axially restrained bar specimens were used for the restrained shrinkage tests. The results were as follows; The dry shrinkage of rapid-set cement concrete was much lessor than that oi OPC, probably because of smaller weight reduction rate by early hydration and strength development. The constraint and bridging effects caused by polypropylene fibers were great for the rapid-setting cement concrete when compared with that of plain concrete, and this resulted In increased resistance against tensile stress and cracking.

  • This paper presents a study on the flexural stiffness, plastic hinge length and plastic hinge rotation capacity of reinforced high performance concrete beams. 15 beams with different strength of concrete, reinforcement ratio and the pattern of loadings were tested. From the test results of reinforced normal strength concrete beams and reinforced high performance concrete beams with the concrete which has cylinder compressive strength of 700kg/${cm}^2$, slump value of 20~25cm and slump-flow value of 60~70cm. It is found that an extreme fiber concrete compressive strain of ${\varepsilon}_{cu}=0.0047$ may be used in ultimate curvature computations of reinforced high performance concrete beams. An empirical equation is proposed to estimate the effective moment of inertia. length and rotation capacity of plastic hinge of simply supported reinforced high performance concrete beams. The estimated deflections using this equation agree well with the experimental values.

  • Ten Half precast concrete slabs reinforced with welded deformed wire fabric were tested under two concentrated loads to investigate the flexural moment and ductile capacity. The test variables were the compressive strength of topping concrete, quantitative roughness, and reinforcernent ratio. The effects of each test variables were studied separately. Test results were as followings. The ultimate strength design method is applicable to predict flexural strength for Half P.C. concrete slab with welded deformed wire fabric and quantitative roughness. It is proper to consider 0.0035 strain ;is yielding stress of the welded deformed wire fabric. The ductility index of Half precast concrete slab with welded deformed wire fabric showed lower value. Therefore to enhance the ductility capacity the normal defomed bar should be used with the welded deformed wire fabric for the longitudinal reinforcement.

  • This paper concerns the flexural behavior of hybrid steel fiber-reinforced ultra high performance concrete (UHPC) beams. It presents experimental research results of hybrid steel fiber-reinforced UHPC with steel fiber content of 1.5% by volume and steel reinforcement ratio of less than 0.02. This study aims at providing realistic information about UHPC beams in bending in order to establish a reasonable prediction model for flexural resistance in structural code in the future. The experimental results show that hybrid steel fiber-reinforced UHPC is in favor of cracking resistance and ductility of beams. The ductility indices range through 9.2 to 15.2, which means high ductility of UHPC. Also, the flexural capacity of beam which contains stirrups in pure bending zone is similar to that of beam which does not contain stirrups in pure bending zone. This result represents that the flexural capacity is not affected by the presence of stirrups whose spacing is 150 mm in bending zone.

  • Project Financing (PF) is a financing method, executed based upon the projected profitability from a project itself instead of relying on the credit rating of project sponsors or any type of collateral. However, most financial institutions of Korea lacks the long term profitability assessment capability, and they prefer to acquire credit reinforcement from the construction companies in the form of the guarantor or debt argument commitments. As a result, PF contingent liabilities as an indirect debt, are burdened to the construction companies. Even though the PF contingent liabilities are not supposed to be part of the financial statements, they became a mandatory disclosure items since 2009. In this study, PF contingent liabilities were studied to indicate how they were correlated with construction firms' financial ratios. Construction firms were grouped by their credit rating and each group was compared in order to analyze PF contingent liabilities' impact on the financial condition of the company in terms of liquidity, liability, and stability.
