To estimate durability of reinforced concrete structures located in or nearby seawater, many different kinds of accelerated tests for evaluation of chloride ion permeation in concrete were proposed. At present the only standardized test is the ASTM C 1202(RCP test). This test method is used to estimate the concrete's resistivity of the chloride penetration in concrete by using the total charges passed and sometimes used to calculate the chloride diffusion coefficients. However, this test may lead to an erroneous chloride diffusion coefficient. So this test method was compared with the modified Dhir's test and the traditional concentration diffusion test. Experimental results showed that the diffusion coefficients determined the RCP test and the PD Index gave wrongous values, but the diffusion coefficient acquired by considering a migration term was nearly the same to the CD Test.
Results of an experimental investigation of low-rise reinforced concrete shear walls with rectangular cross section under cyclic loads are discussed and evaluated. Two half scale models of test specimens with height to length ratio of 0.75 were experimented. The dimension of all walls is 1500mm wide $\times$ 950 mm high $\times$ 100 mm thick for all specimens and the section of all boundary at both ends is 100 mm $\times$ 200mm. Main variables are : horizontal shear reinforcement ratios and reinforcement details(including crossed diagonal shear reinforcements in SWR2 specimen) In SWR2 specimen, maximum strength and consequently dissipating energy index were 1.15~1.21 and 1.48 times greater than those of SWR1 specimen, respectively.
This paper investigated the properties of flexural behavior of composite beams (end-Reinforced concrete, center-Steel concrete) according to attaching length of main bars to flange, shear reinforcing length for different types of structure. In the preceding study, structural properties of composite beams were investigated according to shear span to depth ratio, attaching method of main bars and shear reinforcing method. Based on these results, a series of experiments was carried out according to attaching length of main bar & reinforcing length for different types of structure. Consequently, as attaching length of main bar and shear reinforcing length increased, composite beams represented higher strength, ductility index and stress mechanism distributed in connection zone of different types of structure.
The purpose of this study was to present the possible use of a new standard impactor, the rubber ball(so called, impact ball), and to assess its evaluation method as for heavy-weight impact in multi-story residential buildings, Several experiments were carried out to investigate the effect of the impact on noise propagation in reinforced concrete buildings. Then, the noise from the impact ball was psychoacoustically evaluated. The correlation between the L-value evaluation methods and auditory responses was also investigated. Results show that the ball noise is quite similar to the jumping noise. The noise level of ball is even higher than the bang machine noise, although it has much lower impact force. It was also found that L-indexing seems to bge inappropriate for evaluation of ball noise.
This paper presents the experimental study of nine pieces of reinforced concrete (RC) short columns. RC short columns were tested with cyclic loading with displacement control under the influence of constant axial load with load index of 0.2. Three columns within the tested nine columns are reference columns which have the details of the reinforcement given in the modern regulations and six of them are 150 mm and 100 mm externally collared columns. In addition to the parameter of the collar spacing, aspect ratio (as=2-1.5-1) is also considered as a parameter. The data obtained from experimental results have shown that externally collar contributes significantly to increasing the shear resistance of RC short columns and limiting the shear dominant behavior. It has been observed that the effectiveness of the externally collar increases with the decrease of the aspect ratio.
In this study, six mortar mixes were tested in order to examine the significance and limitations of hydrophilic fiber in terms of its capacity to enhance the tensile resistance of Hwangtoh mortar. Lyocell, polyamide and polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) fibers were selected for the main test parameters. The tensile capacity of mortars tested was evaluated based on the splitting tensile strength and the modulus of fracture, while their ductility was examined using the toughness indices specified in ASTM. Test results showed that the addition of lyocell and PVA fibers had little influence on the flow of the Hwangtoh mortars. To enhance the tensile capacity and toughness index of Hwangtoh mortar, it is proposed that fiber spacing above 0.0003 is required, regardless of the type of fiber.
To reach a better foundation treatment project, an optimized analysis of composite foundation was studied in the field of hydraulic engineering. Its unique characteristics in hydraulic engineering were concluded. And, the overall and detailed analysis of the composite foundation model established was carried out. The index parameters of the vertical reinforced rigid pile composite foundation were formulated. Further, considering the unique role of cushion in hydraulic engineering, its penetration and regularity were analyzed. Then, comparative and optimized analyses of cushion multistage physical dimensions and multistage material characteristics were established. The parameters of the piles distance were optimized and the multilevel scientific and reasonable parameters information was obtained. Based on the information of these parameters, the practical application was verified. It effectively supported the effective application of vertical reinforcement rigid pile composite foundation in hydraulic engineering. The service mechanism of composite foundation was fully analyzed.
With deterioration of the nation's infrastructure comes the growing, need for effective means of rehabilitating structures. Possibly one for the most challenging tasks is to upgrade the overall capacity of concrete structure. This study focused on the flexural behavior of reinforced concrete slabs strengthened by PS strand and polymer mortar in the tension zone. The properties of slabs are 70×12㎝ rectangular and over a 220㎝ span. Test parameters in this experimental study were placing thickness, chipping, the number of strand, the kind of mortar. Attention is concentrated upon overall bending capacity, deflection, ductility index, failure mode and crack development of repaired and rehabilitated slabs.
