  • In this study a framework for cost effective visualization application is presented. Visualizations of a complex street rehabilitation and a highway interchange project are performed. The visualized products were presented to political and community groups, which significantly expedited the consensus building and project approval process.

  • A low cost gait analysis system, which can measure stride length, walking speed, and ground reaction force, is proposed. A gait analysis system is used for medical evaluation of patients and rehabilitation assistance. Low cost cameras are attached to a shoe and movement of a shoe is estimated using infrared LED landmarks. Ground reaction force is measured from pressure sensors, which are installed inside a shoe. Through experiments, it is shown that the proposed system can be used to obtain stride length, walking speed, and ground reaction force.

  • To overcome the disadvantages of conventional excavation technology, various trenchless (or excavation free, or no-dig) repair-reinforcement technologies have been developed and tried. But trenchless technologies so fat developed have some brawbacks such as high cost and inconvenience of operation. In this study, a repairing-reinforcing process for underground pipes with glass fiber fabric polymer composites using VARTM(Vacuum Assisted Resin Transfer Molding) has been developed. The developed process requires shorter operation time and lower cost with smaller and simpler operating equipments than those of the conventional trenchless technologies. For the reliable operation of the developed method, a simple method to apply pressure and vacuum to the reinforcement was devised and flexible mold technology was tried. Also, resin filling and cure status during RTM process were monitored with a commercial dielectrometry cure monitoring system, LACOMCURE. From the investigation, it has been found that the developed repairing-reinforcing technology with appropriate process variables and on-line cure monitoring has many advantages over conventional methods.

  • The purpose of the study is to establish the nurses engaged in blood donation business right cognition and supply base data to make out proper directed blood donation rule through investigation of actual condition and general issue related to directed blood donation. In this study I searched for related reference and computed the directed blood donors in seoul national university hospital blood bank. The directed blood donation in Korea have been increased for supplying fresh whole blood and plateletpheresis donor blood. The most blood donation in the blood bank belong to hospital are directed blood donation. The benefits of directed blood donation are enlargement blood donor, easy insurance a demand type of blood. But that program also give rise to recipient severe burden, additional cost and confused blood donation system. First of all for lessening the burden of the recipient and the directed blood donor, blood donation site, time, cost and procedure must be repared by proper rules. An alternative plans for the directed blood donation are autologous blood program and donor registration system.

  • This study presents an algorithm to select the best alternative plane among various bridge superstructure types (Steel box girder, Rational girder, PSC-I girder) using Value Engineering (VE). Economical efficiency, landscape, constructability, maintenance, stability, function of bridge superstructure were taken into consideration in the designing of bridge. Economical efficiency was evaluated for each alternative plan with optimal design considering Life Cycle Cost (LCC), Repair and rehabilitation histories and some factors were set to get reasonable results. In the application of Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP), consistency of Pairwise Comparisons Matrix was evaluated and the best plan was determined.

Estimation of cost by unnecessary readmission of the tertiary hospitals (불필요한 재입원 비용 추정에 관한 연구)

  • Unnecessary readmissions could be the result of the inadequate and unnecessary treatments. Adequate quality indicators for readmission are important because they can identify inadequate spending by inpatients as well as quality screening. This study attempted to estimate the cost incurred by unnecessary readmissions. The Health Insurance Claims Data of 18 years or older who were admitted in the tertiary hospitals in 2014 were analyzed. Admissions and readmissions were sorted and readmissions were classified into planned and unplanned readmissions. We adopted 28 days as a criteria for the classification of the readmission. Proportion of the patients were higher in readmissions among cancer, accompanied diseases, and special rehabilitation patients. Cost of the readmissions were 50% of the total cost of the admission among the patients of same diseases, same departments, and same hospitals. Almost 1,000billion Won were used by the unnecessary readmissions. We need to reduce the readmissions in regions, departments, and diseases studying the pattern of the readmissions. National level efforts are required to improve quality of care and reduce cost by the unnecessary readmissions.

Evaluation of a Traffic Lane Closure and Pavement Repair for a Certain Period (Focusing on the Gimcheon~Sunsan Project) (1차로 전면차단 후 도로포장 보수방법의 효과분석 (김천~선산 사례중심))

  • PURPOSES : This study supports the evidence that it is possible to rehabilitate a damaged pavement with a lane closure specifically based on the Gimcheon~Sunsan project. METHODS : The prediction results from the simulation programs were compared with field monitoring, which focused on traffic management planning, congestion (length, time, and passing speed), bypass, and user cost, among others. RESULTS : The research results showed that lane closure application and pavement repair of the aged pavement in Korea were possible, even though the prediction results were minimally different from the field monitoring. The road agency contributes to service life extension of the rehabilitated pavement using this method. CONCLUSIONS : A marginal effect caused by the lane closure was observed on travelling users or vehicles, and the user cost of pavement repair decreased. Therefore, introducing the repair method or rehabilitation in Korea is possible. Information dissemination through various media was properly done to execute the project well. Moreover, the construction area traffic utilized nearby alternative roads. Therefore, improving the repaired pavemen's service life while ensuring that the pavement management agency can provide a road with comfortable user riding quality was possible.

Auto-Walking Training After Incomplete Spinal Cord Injury (불완전 척수손상 후의 자동보행훈련)

  • This study was conducted to assess the effects of the gait training method in incomplete spinal cord injured persons using an auto-walking machine. Persons with incomplete spinal cord injury level C or D on the American Spinal Injury Association impairment scale participated for eight weeks in an auto-walking training program. The gait training program was carried out for 15 minutes, three times per day for 8 weeks with an auto-walking machine. The foot rests of the auto-walking machine can be moved forward, downward, backward and upward to make the gait pattern with fixed on crank. The patient's body weight is supported by a harness during waking training. We evaluated the gait speed, physiologic cost index, motor score of lower extremities and the WISCI (walking index for spinal cord injury) level before the training and after the forth and eighth week of walking training. 1. The mean gait speed was significantly increased from .22 m/s at pre-training to .28 m/s after 4 weeks of training and .31 m/s after 8 weeks of training (p=.004). 2. The mean physiologic cost index was decreased from 4.6 beats/min at pre-training to 3.0 beats/min after 4 weeks and 2.0 beats/min after 8 weeks of training, but it was not statistically significant (p=.140). 3. The mean motor score of lower extrernities was significantly increased from 29.8 to 35.8 after 8 weeks of training (p=.043). 4. The mean WISCI level was significantly increased from level 10 to level 19 after 8 weeks of training (p=.007). The results of this study suggest that the gait training program using the auto-walking machine increased the gait speed, muscle strength and galt pattern (WISCI level) in persons with incomplete spinal cord injury. A large, controlled study of this technique is warranted.

Stress and Emotional Status of Patients Undergone Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation and Their Families (조혈모세포이식 환자와 가족의 스트레스와 정서 상태에 대한 연구)

  • Purpose: This study was carried out to accumulate basic data for nursing intervention development by evaluating the stress and emotional status of patients and their families after receiving hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT), illucidating and analysing related factors in order to decrease the negative effects of HSCT on their emotion. Methods: Data were collected using a questionnaire to 53 HSCT patients and 50 families, who were older than 18 at tertiary-care institutions in Seoul, from January, 2000 to August, 2003. Results: There was a significant score difference in stress (t=-2.302, P<0.05). Correlation between stress and emotional status was statistically significant (r=0.486, P<0.01; r=0, P<0.05). Economical burden of cost had significant effects on stress of patients (F=4.194, P<0.05). The series of emotional status of patients without jobs were higher (T=-2.583, P<0.05). The emotional status of families were influenced by monthly income (F=4.036, P<0.05) and patients' diagnosis (F=3.088, P<0.05). Conclusion : These results suggest that the cares for families should be considered with great concern as well as the ones for patients. In addition, such factors as economical burden by medical cost, monthly income and job status should not be excluded in transplantation nursing plans.
