Stitching Effect on Flexural and Interlaminar Properties of MWK Textile Composites

  • The stitching process has been widely utilized for the improvement of through-thickness property of the conventional laminated composites. This paper reports the effects of stitching on the flexural and interlaminar shear properties of multi-axial warp knitted (MWK) composites in order to identify the mechanical property improvements. In order to minimize the geometric uncertainties associated with the stacking pattern of fabrics, the regular lay-up was considered in the examination of the stitching effect. The key parameters are as follows: the stitch spacings, the stitching types, the stitching location, and the location of compression fixture nose. These parameters have little effect on the flexural and interlaminar shear properties, except for the case of stitching location. However, the geometry variations caused by the stitching resulted in minor changes to the mechanical properties consistently. Stitching on the $0^{\circ}$ fibers showed the lowest flexural strength and modulus (12% reduction for both properties). The stitch spacing of 5 mm resulted in 8% reduction for the case of interlaminar strength compared with that of 10 mm spacing.

  • An experimental study to analyze thd hot extrusion processes of regular square section through square dies is carried out by using plasticine as a model material at room temperature. The experimental setup for the extrusion of squared section from round billets through square dies is designed and manufactured. In order to visullize the plastic flow in the extrusion process the technique of gridding on the planes of the sysmmetries and a stacking the desks with different colors are employed. Velocity fields on the symmetry planes are obtained by using grid distortion.

Crystallization Behavior of Polymers as Viewed from the Molecular Level

  • The structural changes viewed from the molecular level have been investigated for the isothermal crystallization phenomena of polyethylene (PE) and the solvent-induced crystallization phenomenon of syndiotactic polystyrene (sPS) glassy sample. The data, which were collected by the time-resolved measurements of Fourier-transform infrared spectra, Raman spectra, synchrotron-sourced small-angle X-ray scattering, wide-angle X-ray scattering, and so on, were combined together to extract the detailed structural information in these phase transition phenomena. In the case of PE, the isothermal crystallization from the melt to the orthorhombic form was found to occur via the conformationally-disordered trans chain form, followed by the formation of the lamellar stacking structure of regular orthorhombic-type crystals. In the case of sPS, the amorphous chains in the glassy sample were found to enhance the mobility through the interaction with the injected solvent molecules, which act as a trigger to cause the conformational ordering from the random coil to the regular T$_2$G$_2$-type helical form. The thus created short helical segments were found to grow into longer helices, which gathered together to form the crystallites, as revealed by the organized coupling of the infrared, Raman and X-ray scattering data.

농산물 포장용 골판지상자의 층적내구성의 분석과 향상에 관한 연구(I) -수분흡습특성과 압축강도열화- (Improvement and Analysis of Stacking Durability of Corrugated Fiberboard Boxes for Agricultural Products -Moisture Absorption Properties and Compressive Strength Reduction-)

  • Major factors in reducing the stacking strength of corrugated fiberboard boxes in cold storage or transport conditions are high relative humidity, causing elevated moisture absorption by the boxes. The bottom boxes in a stack will deform to the critical deflection causing agricultural products damage there, and eventually additional deflection will cause box collapse and finally toppling of the stack. The study was conducted to determine the water absorption characteristics and the compressive strength of the corrugated fiberboard boxes being widely used in packaging agricultural products in Korea. The sample boxes for the study were selected from the regular slotted containers (RSC) types, and one was the box used in apple packaging (Box A), another one was the box used in pear packaging (Box B). The corrugated shipping containers were made from a large portion of recycled fibers in Korea, and comparing with Box B, Box A was fabricated from fiberboard which contained more percentage of old corrugated containers (OCC) imported from foreign countries than domestic waste paper. The results obtained from the study were summarized as follows ; 1. Equilibrium moisture content (EMC) of the sample boxes was established after about 20 hours, and the EMC by absorption was lower than that by desorption. The EMC increased with the increasing of relative humidity and with the decreasing of temperature, and the rate of increasing was much higher above the relative humidity of 50%. 2. The maximum compressive strength of Box A was about 100 kgf greater than that of Box B on the same enviromental conditions. The strength of the sample boxes decreased rapidly with the increasing of relative humidity. The effect of relative humidity on the strength was a little higher than that of temperature. 3. As the applied load was progressively increased and a level was reached, the vertical side panels ($L{\times}D$) deflected laterally inwards or outwards. The panels deflected laterally inwards at higher relative humidity. 4. The maximum compressive deflection ratio and the critical deflection ratio of the sample boxes were increased linearly with the increasing of relative hunidity, but trends for its ratios showed inconsistant response to temperature.

Surface Order of Hexagonal Columnar Mesophases Induced by Molecular Assembly

  • We investigate the surface order, defects and morphology of hexagonal columnar mesophases, Having a crown ether at one end which forms the center of the column and three fluorinated tails at the other, The orientation of the columns was successfully controlled by surface anchoring: Columns were aligned perpendicularly to an evaporated carbon surface, and the planar alignment do asymmetric compounds was induced by a water surface. TEM images show that there is a high degree of perfection in the packing do the cylinders. The hexagonal columnar mesophase (F(sub)h) was confirmed by direct images and the corresponding electron diffractions, where ordered cylindrical moieties are packed on a hexagonal lattice. The column of 12F8-ABG-15C5 was much straighter, compared with that of 12F8-AG-B15C5, resulting from the degrees of regular stacking. Elementary edge dislocation, grain boundary and +1/2 disclination have been observed, although the defects are generally rare.

참조점의 불규칙적 배치를 통한 PIC보의 하중 충실도 향상에 관한 연구 (Load Fidelity Improvement of Piecewise Integrated Composite Beam by Irregular Arrangement of Reference Points)

  • Piecewise Integrated Composite (PIC) 보는 하중 유형에 따라 구간을 나누어, 각 구간마다 하중 유형에 강한 복합재료의 적층 순서를 배열한 보이다. 본 연구에서는 보의 거동을 고려하여 PIC 보의 구간을 머신 러닝을 통해 나누어 기존에 제시되었던 PIC 보에 비해 우수한 굽힘 특성을 갖게 하는 것이 목적이다. FE 모델의 240개 요소가 참조점으로 선택되었다. 선행 유한요소해석은 머신 러닝의 학습데이터 생성을 위하여 규칙적으로 분포된 참조점에서 3축 특성 값(Triaxiality)으로 나타냈다. 3축 특성 값은 인장, 압축 그리고 전단의 하중유형을 나타낸다. 머신 러닝 모델은 하이퍼파라미터(Hyperparameter)와 학습데이터로 구성되었으며, 하이퍼파라미터 튜닝을 통해 적절한 하중 충실도를 도출하였지만, 거동이 큰 보의 옆면에서는 적절하지 않은 하중 충실도가 도출되었다. 이를 해결하기 위하여 고르게 배치한 참조점을 보의 거동에 따라 배치하여 학습 데이터를 얻었고, 머신 러닝 모델이 생성되었다. 앞서 생성된 머신 러닝 모델을 통하여 보가 매핑 되었고, PIC 보에 대하여 유한요소 해석을 진행한 결과, 기존에 제시되었던 PIC 보에 비해 최대하중과 흡수 에너지가 커지는 특성이 나타났다.

  • 논우렁이(Cipangopaludina chinensis malleata (Reeve))의 精蟲形成 過程은 核과 細胞質의 變化로부터 시작한다. 核內의 染色質은 stacking 되기 시작하였으며 細胞質에서는 mitochondria의 모임과 軸絲의 出現이 되었다. 그런後에 細胞質은 突出되기 시작하였고, 核은 突部分으로 移動되었다. 精蟲形成過程中에 全 細胞質에서 나타나는 電子密度가 높은 物質들은 分解되거나 細胞間隙으로 exocytosis 되었다. 특히, mitochondria가 軸絲사이에 存在하며, 차츰 頭部쪽으로 移動되어지기 시작하였다. 그리고 exocytosis後에 電子密度가 높은 物質이 軸絲를 둘러싸기 시작했다. 이들 物質이 release되어 顆粒狀態로 微細小管이나 axonemal doublet 微細小管들을 通해서 각 部位로 移動되어졌다. 이러한 顆粒들은 glycogen을 함유하고 있으며 尾部의 바깥층을 이루고 있었다. 終局에 가서는 凝縮된 核은 螺旋形으로 變化하며 頸部는 cylinderical shape로 되고 中片의 mitochondria가 規則的인 lamellar屬으로 變化하여 완전히 成熟된 精蟲으로 되었다. 그러므로, 이러한 現象은 精蟲形成 過程의 特異한 過程을 나타낸다. 頭部의 染色質의 濃縮, 頭部의 螺旋狀 形態로 變化하는 것과 細胞性 物質이 mitochondria와 微細小管에 의하여 尾部의 각 部分으로 移動과 轉移되는 것이다.

항해중 선박 적재화물의 동적 안정성 평가에 관한 연구 (On the Evaluation of the dynamic Safety of the Ship's Cargo at Sea)

  • One of the most important missons that are imposed on merchant ship at sea is to accomplish the safe transportation of cargo loaded. Recently, a study on the seakeeping performance has been carried out on the development of evaluation system related to the synthetic safety of a ship at sea. The seakeeping performance is the ship's ability sailing at, and executing its misson against adverse environmental factors successfully and safely. Until now, however, there has not been any method of quantitative evaluation on the dynamic safety of the ship's cargo loaded. In this regards, this paper has introduced the evaluation method of dynamic safety of the ship's cargo. In order to evaluate the dynamic safety of cargo, the vertical and lateral acceleration which causes the collapse, racking and local structure failure of cargo was adopted as the evaluation factors in the ship's motions. The response amplitude of ship's motions in regular waves is manipulated by NSM (New Strip Method) on a given 2,700 TEU full container vessel under the wind forces of 7, 8 and 9 Beaufort scale. Each response of ship's motions induced by NSM was applied to short-crested irregular waves for stochastic process on evaluation factors and then vertical and lateral acceleration of each cargo was compared with significant amplitude of each acceleration. A representative dangerous factor was determined by comparing permissible values of stacking and racking forces occurred typically to the vertical and transverse directions with the container strength required on ISO 1496 at the positions of forecastle, poop and ship's midship respectively. Through the occurrence probability of the determined factor by Rayleigh's probability density function, the dangerousness which limits loads on container's side wall as an evaluation was applied in judging of the danger of the ship's cargo loaded.

수증기 쪼임법에 의한 제올라이트형 보로실리케이트 제조방법 (Synthesis of Borosilicate Zeotypes by Steam-assisted Conversion Method)

  • 펜타실 구조와 유사한 제올라이트형 결정성 보로실리케이드를 수증기 쪼임법으로 제조하였다. 실제 여러 종류의 서로 다른 붕소화합물 원료를 사용하여 만든 다양한 조성의 Na2O.SiO2.B2O3.TBA2O 겔을 건조시켜 얻은 무정형 분말을 수열합성 분위기에서 수증기를 쪼임으로써 펜타실 구조를 갖는 보로실리케이트 제올라이트를 합성하였다. 이때 MFI와 MEL 구조가 90:10의 비율을 혼합되어 있는 새로운 중간구조 물질이 얻어 졌다. 본 연구로부터, 젖어 있는 반응성 고체상 물질이 수증기와 높은 pH 분위기에서 결정화가 이루어짐을 확인하였다. X-선 회절법으로 분석한 결과 생성물은 우수한 결정성을 가질뿐만 아니라 독특한 촉매적 성질을 보일것으로 예상되는 구조를 갖는다. 또한 반전중심을 갖는 MFI 구조의 펜타실 층이 규칙적으로 쌓이는 모양을 보이지만 이는 MEL 구조의 거울상 층으로 이루어진 결함에 의해 방해된다. 생성물은 77 K 질소흡착법에 의하면 미세기공 부피가 0.160 cc/g 로서 순수한 MFI 구조 물질이 갖는 0.119 cc/g 보다 더 크며, 비교적 넓은 비표면적(~600 m2/g)을 보인다. 적외선 스펙트럼에서는 900.75 cm-1에서 흡수띠를 보이는데, 이는 붕소가 결정성 실리케이트의 사면체 구조내에 위치함을 뜻한다.
