  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of Pilates exercises on the improvement of blood pressure and respiratory function. 36 subjects which were randomly divided into Pilates exercises group(n=18) and control group(n=18). Subjects in the Pilates exercises group were regularly participated in Pilates exercise program for 8 weeks. We were measured the blood pressure and respiratory function such as blood pressure, VO2max, METs, and Anaerobic threshold at before and after the experiment. After 8 weeks, in Pilate exercises group, there were significant improvement on blood pressure and respiratory function except the diastolic blood pressure. And subjects participated in Pilates exercise group were significantly improved compared to control group on systolic blood pressure, VO2max, METs, and Anaerobic threshold. But in control group, there were no significant differences. In conclusion, regular participation in Pilates exercises improved the blood pressure and respiratory function. These results suggest that Pilates exercise is the method that replace aerobic exercise.

  • Over the last two decades, significant research attention has been given to the acute effect of a single bout of exercise on postprandial lipaemia. A large body of evidence supports the notion that an acute bout of aerobic exercise can reduce postprandial triacylglycerol (TAG) concentrations. However, this effect is short-lived emphasising the important role of regular physical activity for lowering TAG concentrations through an active lifestyle. In 1995, the concept of accumulating physical activity was introduced in expert recommendations with the advice that activity can be performed in several short bouts throughout the day with a minimum duration of 10 minutes per activity bout. Although the concept of accumulation has been widely publicised, there is still limited scientific evidence to support it but several studies have investigated the effects of accumulated activity on health-related outcomes to support the recommendations in physical activity guidelines. One area, which is the focus of this review, is the effect of accumulating exercise on postprandial lipaemia. We propose that accumulating exercise will provide additional physical activity options for lowering postprandial TAG concentrations relevant to individuals with limited time or exercise capacity to engage in more structured forms of exercise, or longer bouts of physical activity. The benefits of accumulated physical activity might translate to a reduced risk of cardiovascular disease in the long-term.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate whether college women would change their exercise and milk intake behavior after the bone mineral density (BMD) test, and to understand the influencing factors in the exercise & milk intake behavioral change. Method: A questionnaire survey which assesses the exercise and m ilk intake behavior was carried out to the 194 college women from June, 2007 to August, 2007, then they had BMD test in the distal radius site. One year later, 146 women have done a similar questionnaire including osteoporosis know ledge, osteoporosis self efficacy, exercise and milk efficacy, and their health belief. Results: The group that had begun regular exercises after the BMD test showed the lowest level of BMD and exercise barrier. And the other group that had been taking exercises before the test, showed the highest osteoporosis self efficacy, exercise efficacy and osteoporosis sensitivity. As for the behavioral change related to milk intake, only the group that had started to intake a cup of milk a day showed the lowest BMD. Conclusion: This study shows that the BMD testing can induce the behavioral change of exercise and milk intake in college women.

  • The elevation of plasma total homocysteine(tHcy) is now established as a risk factro for cardiovascular disease. It is also well known that plasma levels of folate and vitamin $B_{12}$ influences homocysteine metabolism as cofactors. Recently, the effects of health-related lifestyle factors, such as smoking, alcohol drinking coffee consumption, regular exercise, and etc, on plasma tHcy have been determined. The Hordalane Homocysteine Study revealed that smoking and coffee consumption are major deter minants of plasma tHcy as well as folate levels; however, the influence of alcohol intake is still controversial. In Koreans, the effects of lifestyle factors of plasma tHcy have not yet been determined. Thus, we investigated the relationships of various lifestyle determinants with plasma tHcy, folate, and vitamin $B_{12}$ levels and the erythrocyte folate concentrations in Korean adults (99 males and 96 fermales). Plasma tHcy levels were significantly hight in male subjects. On the contrary, plasma levels of folate and vitamin $B_{12}$ and erythrocyte folate concentration of the females were significantly higher than those of the males. Among the five lifestyle factors determined in the study, regular exercise significantly affects plasma tHcy levels only in the females, Contrary to the expectation, there were on significant differences in plasma tHcy levels between alcohol drinkers and non-alcohol drinkers as well as smokers and non-smokers. And also, plasma tHcy leverls were not different between coffee consumers and non-coffee consumer and between green tea consumers and non-green tea consumers. Although alcohol intake did not influence plasma tHcy levels, the duration, frequency, and amount of alcohol drinking showed significant negative relationships with plasma folate levers. These results indicate the regular exercise and alcohol intake might influence plasma levels of tHcy and folate in Koreans, although the results were not reveled in both sexes.

  • This study aims to provide useful basic materials for planning the Health Improvement Program and Policy for men aged 20 40. This study investigated 889 subjects, and at each corresponding age, who were collected among the trainers at the Civil Defense Training Institute in K-ku, Incheon City. The data collection period lasted from April to July of 2003. I revised and complemented the measurement tool for the Health Improvement Life Style developed by Jung Eun-Kyung. For analysis of the acquired data. I used SPSS11.0 program. The study shows that the Health Improvement Action of a group of middle aged men averaged 2.80, and 0.44 point out of 5. According to the results found during the analysis of the generic characters of differences in behaviors of Health Improvement. It was revealed that there were significant differences in age, regular exercise and health interest, stress management, self-concept as well as degrees of interest in health, and education level. According to monthly income levels, regular exercise and degrees of self-concept degrees were significantly different from each other. According to marital status. balanced diet and regular exercise were related to each other. According to religion, balanced diet, stress management degree, self concept degree, and degrees of interest in health, significant differences were shown. Based on the earlier mentioned results, we should pay attention to act more, rather than merely recognize the development of the health improvement program of our regional community. Also, it is necessary to find out the cause, which lowers men's interest in health.
