Effect of internal angles between limbs of cross plan shaped tall building under wind load

  • The present study revealed comparison the pressure distribution on the surfaces of regular cross plan shaped building with angular cross plan shaped building which is being transformed from basic cross plan shaped building through the variation of internal angles between limbs by $15^{\circ}$ for various wind incidence angle from $0^{\circ}$ to $180^{\circ}$ at an interval of $30^{\circ}$. In order to maintain the area same the limbs sizes are slightly increased accordingly. Numerical analysis has been carried out to generate similar nature of flow condition as per IS: 875 (Part -III):1987 (a mean wind velocity of 10 m/s) by using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) with help of ANSYS CFX ($k-{\varepsilon}$ model). The variation of mean pressure coefficients, pressure distribution over the surface, flow pattern and force coefficient are evaluated for each cases and represented graphically to understand extent of nonconformities due to such angular modifications in plan. Finally regular cross shaped building results are compared with wind tunnel results obtained from similar '+' shaped building study with similar flow condition. Reduction in along wind force coefficients for angular crossed shaped building, observed for various skew angles leads to develop lesser along wind force on building compared to regular crossed shaped building and square plan shaped building. Interference effect within the internal faces are observed in particular faces of building for both cases, considerably. Significant deviation is noticed in wind induced responses for angular cross building compared to regular cross shaped building for different direction wind flow.

Response spectrum analysis for regular base isolated buildings subjected to near fault ground motions

  • This paper presents a response spectrum analysis procedure suitable for base isolated regular buildings subjected to near fault ground motions. This procedure is based on the fact that the isolation system may be treated separately since the superstructure behaves as a rigid body on well selected isolation systems. The base isolated building is decomposed into several single-degree of freedom systems, the first one having the total weight of the building is isolated while the remainder when superposed they replicate approximately the behavior of the superstructure. The response of the isolation system is governed by a response spectrum generated for a single isolated mass. The concept of the procedure and its application for the analysis of base isolated structures is illustrated with an example. The present analysis procedure is shown to be accurate enough for the preliminary design and overcomes the limits of applicability of the conventional linear response spectrum analysis.

  • SNS(Social Networking Service)와 쇼핑몰을 결합하면 오프라인 거래에서처럼 단골 관계를 형성할 수 있다. 농산물 직거래의 예를 들면, 소비자는 자신의 SNS 홈에서 기존의 단골 관계인 생산자의 소식(파종, 농사, 수확, 신상품 등)을 타임라인에서 확인하여 필요한 상품을 원클릭(one click)으로 구매할 수 있고 생산자는 소비자에게 뉴스 및 할인 등의 정보를 제공하여 단골로 만드는 고객 관리가 가능하다. 이처럼 SNS의 인맥 마케팅 기능에 더하여 시스템은 생산자의 판매 물품을 자동 분류한 카테고리로 소비자의 SNS 홈 페이지에 쇼핑물의 기능을 제공하여 소비자가 원하는 상품을 검색하고 구매할 수 있으며 구매는 자동으로 소비자와 생산자를 단골관계로 이어준다. 구매자는 구매한 상품에 대한 추천 및 리뷰 작성을 통해 기존의 리뷰 재배포도 가능하며 서로 알지 못하는 구매자 간의 소통을 가능하게 한다는 것이 이 시스템의 가장 큰 특징이다.

  • Through advance in construction techniques, engineering progress, availability of new materials, and economic considerations, buildings are becoming taller, lighter, and more flexible. In addition, today/s buildings are largely of regular geometric shape with smooth glass metal exteriors, which increase the likelihood of vortex shedding. The wind induced oscillation of the building, if not properly damped, could cause occupant discomfort and other problem. This paper will deal with residual building structure equipped with viscoelastic dampers. And the dampers are installed on the 42th story according to the maximum relative deformation.

  • This study is derived from a problem for the blind, how to recognize the space and how to find their way. Unlike ordinary people, the disabled people are closely related with special constructor environment using the other sense. Especially, to find his/her location, each person depends on the wayfinding ability as acquiring specific and various information,(e.g. recognizing figure by tactile sense, space size by auditory sense, direction by light from a window and regular noise, and existence of switch in a specific place.) Those senses help the person's wayfinding to his/her destination. The procedure of wayfinding are location, position, orientation, navigation, and movement. Consequently, construction for the people above mentioned can offer a design-guideline considering following factors, building arrangement considering regular noise, refurbishment, plan configuration of floor and wall-skin changed, circulation stream that maintains right angle by the regular noise in the building, enforcement location character by the inflow of the light into a crossing.

Comparison of methods to estimate storey stiffness and storey strength in buildings

  • During earthquakes, regular buildings perform better than irregular buildings. In general, seismic design codes define a regular building using estimates of Storey Stiffness and Storey Strength. At present, seismic design codes do not recommend a specific method to estimate these parameters. Consequently, any method described in the literature can be applied to estimate the aforementioned parameters. Nevertheless, research has demonstrated that storey stiffness and storey strength vary depending on the estimation method employed. As a result, the same building can be regular or irregular, depending on the method employed to estimate storey stiffness and storey strength. Hence, there is a need to identify the best method to estimate storey stiffness and storey strength. For this purpose, the study presents a qualitative and quantitative evaluation of nine approaches used to determine storey stiffness. Similarly, the study compares six approaches for estimating storey strength. Subsequently, the study identifies the best method to estimate storey stiffness and storey strength using results of 350 linear time history analyses and 245 nonlinear time history analyses, respectively. Based on the comparison, it is concluded that the Fundamental Lateral Translational Mode Shape Method and Isolated Storey Method - A Particular Case are the best methods to estimate storey stiffness and storey strength of low-to-mid rise buildings, respectively.

한국어 자동 발음열 생성을 위한 예외발음사전 구축 (Building an Exceptional Pronunciation Dictionary For Korean Automatic Pronunciation Generator)

  • This paper presents a method of building an exceptional pronunciation dictionary for Korean automatic pronunciation generator. An automatic pronunciation generator is an essential element of speech recognition system and a TTS (Text-To-Speech) system. It is composed of a part of regular rules and an exceptional pronunciation dictionary. The exceptional pronunciation dictionary is created by extracting the words which have exceptional pronunciations from text corpus based on the characteristics of the words of exceptional pronunciation through phonological research and text analysis. Thus, the method contributes to improve performance of Korean automatic pronunciation generator as well as the performance of speech recognition system and TTS system.

The Preliminary Design Guideline for Tall Building: Exploration of Planning Factors & Building Factors

  • Every year new tall buildings are being conceived, designed, and built with new schemes. Thus it is important to explore the factors that affect tall building design. Thus it is important to explore the tall building design factors. The planning and design of tall buildings require different criteria than those that exist in regular size buildings. Tall buildings are uniquely expressed by their structural systems where exterior esthetic and requirements of space drive the form and composition of the structural systems. Therefore the exploration of design factors is the key to achieve optimum building systems. Optimization as mentioned here is associated with the efficiency of the different building systems. To achieve an optimal system, there is a need for an understanding of the factors that affect on overall tall building design such as planning module, building function, lease span, floor-to-floor-height, building height (aspect ratio), structural system, environmental systems. In this paper a statistical approach will be used and will be based on data collected from the practice through a rigorous survey taken. This information is tabulated and analyzed. The major target of investigation will be lease span related to space requirement in the tall building planning. Factors related to lease spans, such as function, floor-to-floor height, planning module, building height, overall plan dimension, and plan ratio (building geometry), will be looked at carefully. IN conclusion, this approach of optimization can introduce a preliminary design guideline for tall building projects. The purpose of the paper should shed some light on the optimum tall building design criteria.

  • KEPCO High Temperature Superconducting (HTS) cable system rated with $3\Phi$, 22.9kV, 1250A was laid in 2006, and the long term test is in progress. The HTS cable system with the cooling system has been operated below cryogenic temperature. That environment exposes the system to the thermo-mechanical stress due to the significant temperature difference, and the cooling system has moving parts for the forced circulation of the coolant. Therefore the HTS cable system experiences thermal fatigue and moving part such as liquid nitrogen pump need a regular replacement every 5000 hours Building the assessment criterion, the maintenance procedure was established and regular preventive maintenance was done; improvement of the termination structure and the replacement of the bearing of liquid nitrogen pump. Following the proper process, the reliability assessment test including He leakage detection and the stability of flow rate was performed. This paper describes the process and result of the first regular maintenance of KEPCO HTS cable system

Hybrid형 폴리머 시멘트 슬러리로 도장한 철근의 부착강도와 부식저항성 (Bond Strength and Corrosion Resistance of Coated Reinforcing Bar Using Hybrid-Type Polymer Cement Slurry)

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate the bond strength and corrosion resistance of coated reinforcing bar using hybrid-type polymer cement slurry(PCS). PCS coated steels, which is made from two types of polymer dispersions such as St/BA and EVA are prepared, and tested for bond strength and various corrosion resistances such as autoclaved cure, carbonation and H2SO4 solution. From the test results, the bond strength of PCS coated reinforcing bar using ordinary portland cement at 1-5, 2-1 and 4-5 of mixes is higher than that of uncoated regular steel. However, bond strength of almost PCS coated reinforcing bars using ultra rapid high strength cement is higher than that of epoxy coated bar, is also in ranges of 102% to 123% compared to that of uncoated regular steel. In autoclaved accelerating test, the ratio of corrosion of uncoated regular steel is increased with the increase in NaCl content, but the corrosion of PCS coated steel was very small. In the acceleration test for carbonation, increasing the amount of NaCl the corrosion of coated steel did not produce. The corrosion of uncoated regular steel is increased with the increase in the amount of NaCl. It can be seen that the NaCl following the acceleration test for carbonation can lower the corrosion resistance of concrete. As a result, the corrosion of steel largely is affected by the acceleration curing, chloride ion penetration and carbonation and shown more severe corrosion by applying complex factors. These corrosions of steel can be suppressed by the coating of PCS.
