Correlation Analysis Between Forest Volume, ETM+ Bands, and Height Estimated from C-Band SRTM Product

  • Forest stand height and volume are important indicators for management purpose as well as for the environmental analysis. Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM) is backscattered over forest canopy and DSM can be acquired from such scattering characteristic, while National Elevation Dataset (NED) provides bare earth elevation data. The difference between SRTM and NED is estimated as tree height, and it is correlated with forest parameters, it is correlated with forest parameters, including average DBH, Trees per acre, net BF per acre, and total Net MBF. Especially, among them, net Board Foot(BF) per acre is the index that well represents forest volume. The Project site was Douglas-fir dominating plantation area in the western Washington an the northern Oregon in the U.S. This study shows a relationship of high correlation between the forest parameters and the product from SRTM, NED, and ETM+. This research performs multi regression analysis and regression tree algorithm, and can get more improved relationship between several parameters.

효과적인 식생복원을 위한 참나무류 군락 식재의 생장량에 관한 연구 (Growth Degree of Quercus Community Plantations for Effective Vegetation Restoration)

  • The present study evaluated growth factors affecting oak community plantations through literature review and a field survey. Specifically, 41 related literature sources were analyzed and field surveys were conducted to collect growth data. Previous studies were analyzed to identify variables with high frequency of use. The frequency of use was in the order of tree size > environment > planting density > forest age. Analysis of factors impacting height and diameter growth revealed that the growth rate of species other than Quercus variabilis was negative in the field survey. This may be because of differences between the actual trees planted and specifications in the construction drawings, which may be attributed to the site conditions and decisions made by the project subject during construction. Furthermore, simple linear regression analysis was conducted with time, height at planting, density, and species code as the independent variables and growth rate as the dependent variable. A strong positive linear correlation was noted between height and diameter. This work builds a foundation for developing a forest restoration model and simulation program based on a regression model derived from the four variables tested.

Prediction of concrete compressive strength using non-destructive test results

  • Concrete which is a composite material is one of the most important construction materials. Compressive strength is a commonly used parameter for the assessment of concrete quality. Accurate prediction of concrete compressive strength is an important issue. In this study, we utilized an experimental procedure for the assessment of concrete quality. Firstly, the concrete mix was prepared according to C 20 type concrete, and slump of fresh concrete was about 20 cm. After the placement of fresh concrete to formworks, compaction was achieved using a vibrating screed. After 28 day period, a total of 100 core samples having 75 mm diameter were extracted. On the core samples pulse velocity determination tests and compressive strength tests were performed. Besides, Windsor probe penetration tests and Schmidt hammer tests were also performed. After setting up the data set, twelve artificial intelligence (AI) models compared for predicting the concrete compressive strength. These models can be divided into three categories (i) Functions (i.e., Linear Regression, Simple Linear Regression, Multilayer Perceptron, Support Vector Regression), (ii) Lazy-Learning Algorithms (i.e., IBk Linear NN Search, KStar, Locally Weighted Learning) (iii) Tree-Based Learning Algorithms (i.e., Decision Stump, Model Trees Regression, Random Forest, Random Tree, Reduced Error Pruning Tree). Four evaluation processes, four validation implements (i.e., 10-fold cross validation, 5-fold cross validation, 10% split sample validation & 20% split sample validation) are used to examine the performance of predictive models. This study shows that machine learning regression techniques are promising tools for predicting compressive strength of concrete.

  • Two-dimensional analysis provides a comprehensive description of the structure, scales of pattern and directional components in a spatial data set. In spectral analysisi, four functions are illustrated,; the autocorrelation, the periodogram, the R-spectrum and the $\theta$ -spectrum. The R-spectrum and $\theta$ -spectrum function respectively summarize the periodogram in term of scale of pattern and directional components. Sampling is measured in the Naejang National Park area where the Daphniphyllum trees grow. 320 contiguous (15$\times$15)m plots are located along the transect and density of all trees over DBH 3 cm recorded respectively. 12 species of vascular plant are recorded in this survey area. The trend surface of density of all plant are estimated using polynomial regression and are exhibited in 3-dimensional graph and density contour map. Transformation to the corresponding polar spectrum from the periodogram emphasized the directional components and the scales to pattern. R-spectrum corresponding to the scale of pattern of periodogram showed a large peak 15.47 in the interval 9$\theta$-spectrum corresponding to directional components have two peaks 8.28 and 11.05 in the interval $35^{\circ}\theta <45^{\circ}and 125^{\circ}\theta< <135^{\circ}, respectively. Programs to compute all the analyses described in this study was obtained from Dr. Ranshow and was translated to BASIC by the author.

道路 指標生物을 이용한 대기오염이 植物에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Effect of Air Pollutants in Daegu Area by Biological Indicator of Roadside)

  • This study was performed to investigate the air pollution levels in Daegu area titrough measuring of contents of water, chlorophyll, water soluble sulfur and lead metal in the leaves of roadside trees and chemical properties of soil under the urban trees. The results can be summarized as follows 1. The range of water content was from 60.4% to 74.6%. The comparisons of chlorophyll, water soluble sulfur and water content were regression equation, chlorophyll=0.1981+ 0.0040 water content (July), water soluble sulfur=3,139-0.0416 water content (July). and correlation coefficient, r=0.561 and r=0.549 respectively 2. Average contents of chlorophyll, water soluble sulfur and lead metal in the leaves of roadside tree at sampling sites were chlorophyll 0.050, 0.072mg/cm$^2$, water soluble sulfur 0.244, 0.333%, and lead metal 12.25, 12.68ppm in Oct. and Jul. respectively. 3. Correlation between chlorophyll and contents of water soluble sulfur and lead metal in the leaves of roadside tree at sampling sites were water soluble sulfur r=-0.564, -0.613 and lead metal r=-0.693, -0.699 in October and July, respectively. 4. Correlation between chlorophyll and water content, water soluble sulfur and lead metal in the leaves of tree showed positive significance.

리기다 소나무 인공조림지의 물질생산량에 관한 연구 (Distribution of Biomass and Production in Man-made Pitch Pine Plantation in Korea)

  • To study tile comparison of aboveground biomass of Pinus rigida Mill. of 18-year-old, plantations located in Whaseong, Yuseong and Wanju district were selected. Ten sample trees in each district selected taking account of DBH distribution were felled carefully to minimize loss of branches and stem analysed by 1m lag segment sectioned from base . The tree height and DBH were measured for sample trees in total growing within $200m^2$ experimental plot. The diagram of oven-dry weight distribution of stem, branch and needle for each 1m segment was constructed. The logarithmic regression equations between dry weight of each component and the two variables, $DBH^2$ and tree height, combined term were presented. The standing crops in the sample stand was estimated to be as much as 23.88, 54.09 and 42.68 tons of dry matter, above ground , per ha in Whaseong, Yuseong anf Wanju district respectively. Annual net production was estimated at 253,657 and 3.65 tons per ha per year respectively. The net assimilation rate was 1.65,1.95 and 1.81 kg/kg/yr in Whaseong, Yuseong and Wanju district respectively. The efficency of leaf to produce stem was 0.99, 1.12 and 1.30 kg/kg/yr respectively.

중부한국의 자연생 소나무의 연 신장성장율에 영향을 미치는 토양요인들에 대한 다요인 분석 (An Analysis of the Relationship of Soil Factors to the Height Growth of Pinus densiflora within the Young Natural Stands in Central Korea)

  • To study on the annual height growth of Pinus densiflora within natural pine stands in central Korea, twenty two pure closed Pinus densiflora stands were selected subjectively in the west-central region of Korea. In each stand twenty trees were chosen randomly. For each tree, abotu ten to fifteen measurements of internodal lengths were made from leader top to trunk base. A total of one hundred thirty four soil samples was collected. Each soil sample was bulked with three subsamples. The ranges of the growth measurements per stand, per tree and per observation were 14.9-35.4cm, 9.0cm-54.4cm and 2.4cm-69.0cm respectively. The total mean value was 23.5cm. The Student-Newman-Keul's tests for the multiple comparison among the mean values of the height growth per stand were very highly significant. The resutls of the analysis of variance of the height growth data for the selected fifteen stands among the twenty two stands indicate that sampling efficiency might be increased to 744% if measurement of the growth were made on fifteen trees per stand from twenty stands instead of twenty trees per stand from fifteen stands. The annual height growths of Pinus densiflora and Pinus koraiensis for the period from 1960 to 1968 were 21.74$\pm$5.29cm (10) and 20.56$\pm$5.59cm (10) respectively. The total means of easily-soluble phosphorus, total nitrogen, loss on ignition and pH for the soil samples were 2.8 ppm, 0.09%, 5.4% and 4.7 respectively. The ranges of those amounts were 18.7-1.7ppm, 0.17-0.05%, 11.6%-3.1%, 3.9-5.1 respectively. The relationship of the annual height growth of P. densiflora to soil was studied in terms of standard partial multiple regression. Among soil properties such as non-capillary pore space, capillary pore space, maximum field capacity, loss on ignition, soil reaction, total nitrogen and easily-soluble phosphoros investigated, the easily soluble phosphorus in one analysis and loss on ignition and soil reaction in the other analysis seem to have significant positive influence on the annual height growth.

설악산국립공원 자양천지역 소나무림 군집구조 및 생육거리 (Vegetation Structure Analysis and Ecological Distance of Pinus densiflora Community in Chayang-chon Area, Soraksan National Park)

  • 설악산국립공원 자양천계곡 지역에 분포하는 소나무림의 생식구조와 수종간 생육거리를 밝히기 위해 총 39개의 조사구(10m$\times$10m)를 설정하였다. TWINSPAN과 DCA기법으로 분석한 결과 소나무림은 2개의 구집으로 나누어졌다. 군집 I은 흉고직경이 35~70cm, 수고 9~16m, 수령이 30~50년 정도의 소나무가 우점하였으며 일정시간 이상 소나무림으로 계속 유지될 것으로 판단되었다. Shannon의 종다양도는 군집 II(1.4247)가 군집 I (1.2978)보다 높았다. 수종간 생육거리를 살펴보면, 군집 I에서 교목층은 4.92$\pm $2.14m, 군집 II의 교목층은 2.41$\pm $0.97m 이었다. 또한 교목층 흉고직경과 생육거리와의 관계는 Y(거리) = 0.06355$\times $(DBH)+1.51613이었다.

머신러닝을 이용한 CNC 가공 불량 발생 예측 모델 (Prediction Model of CNC Processing Defects Using Machine Learning)

  • 본 연구는 최근 가공 불량 예측 방법으로 주목받고 있는 머신러닝 기반의 모델을 이용하여 CNC 가공 불량 발생의 실시간 예측을 위한 분석 프레임워크를 제안하고, 해당 프레임워크에 기반하여 XGBoost, CatBoost, LightGBM, 랜덤 포레스트, Extra Trees, SVM, k-최근접 이웃, 로지스틱 회귀 모델을 CNC 설비에 기본 내장된 센서들로부터 추출된 데이터에 적용 및 분석하였다. 분석 결과 XGBoost, CatBoost, LightGBM 모델이 동일하게 가장 우수한 정확도, 정밀도, 재현율, F1 점수, AUC 값을 보였으며, 이 중 LightGBM 모델이 소요 실행 시간이 가장 짧은 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 짧은 소요 실행 시간은 실 시스템 구축 비용 절감, 빠른 불량 예측에 따른 CNC 장비 파손 확률 감소, 전체적인 CNC 활용률 증가 등의 실무적 장점을 가지므로 LightGBM 모델이 기본 센서들만 설치된 CNC 설비에 적용 시 가공 불량 예측에 가장 효과적으로 판단된다. 또한 소요 실행 시간 및 컴퓨팅 파워의 제약이 없는 상황에서는 LightGBM, Extra Trees, k-최근접 이웃, 로지스틱 회귀 모형으로 구성된 앙상블 모델을 적용할 경우 분류 성능이 최대화됨을 확인하였다.

산불발생 후 불자국을 이용한 소나무 생존 및 지형에 따른 산불의 방향 분석 (Analysis of Fire Direction and Pine Tree Survival using to Fire Scar formed in Tree Stem after forest Fire)

  • 산불발생 후 수목의 수간에 형성된 불자국을 이용하여 산불 발생 시 지형에 따른 산불의 방향성 추정과 수목의 생존율 분석을 통하여 다음과 같은 결론을 얻었다. 불자국은 수목의 수간을 기준으로 바람이 부는 반대방향(leeward side)에서 더 높게 형성되며, 수목의 직경, 사면의 경사 등과 밀접한 관련이 있는 것으로 판단된다. 불자국을 이용하여 불의 진행방향을 분석한 결과 4가지 유형이 가장 두드러지게 나타나고 있었으며, 이들 유형들은 사면의 방향과 일정하게 또는 바람의 방향과도 밀접한 관련이 있는 것으로 나타났다. 불자국의 높이는 생존목과 고사목을 비교해 보면 평균 불자국 높이는 수목의 수간을 기준으로 바람이 부는 방향(windward side) 반대 방향(leeward side)의 높이는 생존목 보다는 고사목의 불자국의 높이가 높게 나타났다. 수간이 불에 탄 면적을 보면 생존목의 경우에는 2000년 25.9%, 2001년 17.1%, 2002년 12.4% 이었으며, 고사목의 경우에는 2000년 40.9%, 2001년 31.3%m 2002년 30.5% 이었다. 이러한 결과로 볼 때 소나무의 경우 수간면적이 최소한 12% 이하가 불에 타면 생존하게 되고, 30% 이상의 면적이 불에 타게 되면 고사되는 것으로 나타났다. Brown et al.(1987)의 연구에 따르면 사시나무에서 불의 강도와 고사와의 관계에서, 불에 탄 면적이 고사한 수목의 경우에는 평균 70% 이상이고, 생존한 수목의 경우에는 50% 이하로 나타난다고 보고하였으나 본 연구에서 수행된 소나무의 경우에는 이보다 훨씬 작은 면적이 불에 타더라도 고사하게 되는 것으로 나타났다. 소나무의 생존분석은 불자국의 면적, 불자국의 높이, 수고, 직경의 4가지 인자를 이용하여 분석한 결과 회귀식은 다음과 같이 정의될 수 있다. Y=-2.484${\times}$Hight+0.04199${\times}$D.B.H-1.686${\times}$Windward+11.172${\times}$Leeward+23.432 (r=0.936, F=409.968, P>0.0001). 이러한 불자국을 이용한 다양한 연구들은 산불의 강도, 속도 등에 대한 분석을 가능하게 하며, 산불 발생 후 야기되는 산림관리에 대한 기본적인 자료들로서 제공될 수 있을 것이다.
