우리나라 지역수출의 결정요인 분석 (Identifying Economic Determinants of Regional Exports in Korea)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 2003년 지역산업연관표의 거래자료와 외관상무관한회귀(Seemingly Unrelated Regression:SUR) 모형을 이용하여 지역수출의 결정요인을 분석하는 것이다. 노동생산성, 규모의 경제, 해외수출입은 지역내 지역간수출에 정(+)의 영향을 주며, 시장규모는 수출대상지의 시장규모가 커질수록 지역간 수출이 증가하는 것으로 나타났다. 반면, 지역간 수출의 경우, 지역간 거리가 늘어날수록 수출이 줄어드는 것으로 분석되었다. 이러한 결과는 지역수출을 확대하고 궁극적으로 지역경제 활성화를 도모하기 위해서는 노동숙련도 향상, 규모의 경제 달성, 시장규모 확대, 지속적인 해외수출 증대 및 물류비 감소 등에 대한 정책이 필요하다.

Do Roads Enhance Regional Trade? Evidence Based on China's Provincial Data

  • We investigate the impact of roads and highways within the provinces on the regional trade of China using the augmented Gravity Model and theory of modeling trade. We take a panel data covering 31 provinces of China over 20 years period (1998-2017) for the estimations. We apply ARMA-OLS model, fixed and random effects, and robust findings by Hausman test. The results imply that road and highway lengths within the provinces have a significantly positive impact on the value of the province-wise exports. The positive impact is due to the fact the increased coverage of roads and highways increase accessibility to resources and mobility of goods and services within the regions. Moreover, employment in the transportation sector, per capita GDP and population of the provinces also illustrate positive and significant influence on regional exports and trade. The impact of China's WTO accession on regional exports has been positive, while the financial crisis has had a negative impact. The year dummies show that, in the years following the financial crisis, China was able to regress from the external shock as trade within the provinces increased. The increase in exports after financial crisis is mainly due to the government policies and support to every province.

Re-Evaluation of Free Trade Agreement: Changes in Global Value Chain and Regional Value Contents

  • Purpose - The purpose of this study is to evaluate the economic effects of FTAs using the concept of value-added exports. So far, the economic effects of FTAs have been dependent on decrease in import prices due to tariff cuts in importing countries, but the actual tariff reduction need to consider the value added of the exporting countries. Design/methodology - Value-added export refers to the added value created in the exporting country out of total exports. Among value-added exports, direct value-added export is interpreted as the Regional Value Contents (RVC), from which the economic effect of the FTA can be analyzed. A modified GTAP-VA model takes into account RVC in order to estimate accurate effects of FTAs. Findings - By the re-evaluation of the FTA based on the RVC, this paper makes it clear that the economic effects of the existing FTA methodology have the possibility of overestimation. In addition, as a new FTA with a strengthened Rules of Origin (ROO) is being initiated, a negative impact on international trade and GVC utilization may occur. Originality/value - This study introduces the concept of value-added export in analyzing the effects of FTAs. The new analysis methodology of this paper emphasizes the importance of value-added exports. Re-organization of GVCs would change regional trade agreements and empower ROO by weakening existing GVCs and transforming the value chain from global into regional scope.

중국의 지역별 수출과 경제성장 간의 영향관계 분석 -개혁개방 이후의 중국경제를 중심으로- (The analysis for an effect influence between a China's regional firm's export and economic growth - Focused on China economy after the direction of Chinese reform -)

  • After reform and openness action, china has been recorded high rate of increasing in export and continuous economic growth. Also their role in the international economy has been rise. The major reason of these incredible growth of China is the openness by a trade, after all the economic growth of China is evaluated an export-led growth. But, some insist that the growth of China has been accomplished by a domestic-based economy not but an export-led economy. For verification of former insists, using a yearly data, China exports and GDP, from 1979 to 2007 and performs time-series to examine an existence of causality between China's regional exports and GDP. As result of analysis, GDP and exports have two-way causality significantly when not considering region case. After the direction of Chinese reform, the east region has a strong significant relation, which support that export-led growth. While, middle and west region has weak causality between exports and GDP.

The Environmental and Economic Impact of Trade between South Korea and the United States

  • This paper analyses carbon emissions and value-added embodied in trade between two large developed countries, South Korea and the United States, during 2000-2014. Using multi-regional input-output (MRIO) tables, our analysis reveals that carbon emissions and value-added embodied in exports grew by 19% and 101% for South Korea but shrank by 43% and 7% for the United States. As a result, South Korea experienced a 40% increase in net carbon exports and 243% increase in net value-added exports. At the industry level, the primary drivers of changes in carbon exports were electricity and basic materials. The majority of industries in witnessed improvements in carbon intensities suggesting improved environmental efficiency. While both countries achieved a decoupling of carbon emissions from value-added exports, substantial year-to-year and sectoral variations were observed. Finally, structural decomposition analysis indicates that domestic supply-side factors played a role in decreasing emissions whereas foreign demand-side factors contributed to emissions increases. In line with the main findings, various implications for policy and future research are discussed.

중국의 지역별 수출과 경제성장의 인과관계 분석(1952-2004) (Causal Relationship between Exports and Economic Growth in China (1952~2004))

  • 본 논문은 1952-2004년 걸쳐 중국의 수출과 경제성장 간의 인과관계를 지역별(동부, 중부, 서부), 시대별(개혁개방 전후)로 고찰해 본 것이다. 이를 위해 먼저 변수들의 안정성 여부를 검토하기 위해 단위근 검정을 실시했으며, 다음으로 변수간 장기적인 안정관계를 확인하기 위해 공적분 검정을 수행했고, 마지막으로 오차수정모형을 추정함으로써 그랜저 인과관계 검정을 실시했다. 분석결과 전체기간에서 동부지역은 수출이 경제성장에 유의한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났으며, 중서부지역에서는 그 정도가 약하게 나타났다. 동부지역의 경우 개방정책이 집중적으로 나타난 지역적 특성을 반영하여 개혁개방 이전에는 수출과 경제성장 간의 인과관계가 나타나지 않았으나, 개혁개방 이후에는 수출이 경제성장에 유의한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 개혁개방을 전후하여 변화가 없을 것으로 예상했던 중서부 지역의 경우, 중부지역은 개혁개방 이전에는 무역과 경제성장 간에 인과관계가 보이지 않았으나 개혁개방 이후에는 양방향 인과관계가 강하게 나타났으며, 서부지역의 경우에는 오히려 개혁개방 이전에 무역이 경제성장에 유의한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타난 반면 개혁개방 이후에는 반대로 경제성장이 무역에 유의한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다.

우리나라 수출의 고용파급효과에 관한 연구: 다지역산업연관 및 구조적 요인분해 분석을 중심으로 (Korea's Employment Embodied in Exports: a Multi-Regional Input-Output and Structural Decomposition Analysis)

  • 본 논문의 목적은 우리나라 수출의 고용파급효과와 그 변화 요인을 상세히 분석하는 데 있다. 이를 위해 가장 최근에 공표된 World Input-Output Database (WIOD)의 2000년부터 2014년까지의 세계산업연관표와 사회경제계정을 이용하여 다지역산업연관 및 구조적 요인 분해 분석을 실시하였다. 주요 분석 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 우리나라 수출에 체화된 고용은 지속적으로 증가하였고, 우리나라 고용의 수출 의존도 역시 상승 추세를 보였다. 그러나 부가가치 수출의 고용유발계수는 전반적으로 하락하는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 우리나라 수출에 체화된 고용의 상당 부분은 중국, 미국, RoW(Rest of the World)의 최종수요에 기인한 것으로 분석되었다. 셋째, 우리나라 수출에 체화된 고용의 증대에 가장 큰 영향을 준 요인은 해외 최종수요의 변화 요인이었다. 이러한 실증분석 결과에 기초하여 우리나라의 국내 고용 확대를 위한 의미 있는 정책적 시사점을 논의하였다.

  • 최근 국가온실가스배출량 측정과 관련하여 소비기반 배출량에 대한 관심과 연구가 증가하고 있다. 소비기반 배출량은 정의상 국제무역에 함유된 온실가스 배출량과 직접적인 관계가 있다. 본 연구에서는 에너지 연소에 따른 이산화탄소 배출에 한하여 한국의 주요 교역상대국들에 대한 최종재 수출에 함유된 상품별 국내외 탄소배출 비중을 계산할 뿐만 아니라 한국의 자국 최종수요에 기인한 탄소배출과 외국 최종수요에 기인한 탄소배출을 분해하여 이를 주요 교역상대국들과 비교한다. 또한 한국의 주요 교역상대국들에 대한 수출에 얽혀 있는 탄소사슬을 분석하고 탄소사슬별 탄소집약도를 계산하여 주요 특징들을 살펴본다.

Effect of Globalization on Coffee Exports in Producing Countries: A Dynamic Panel Data Analysis

  • The aim of this research is to examine how globalization affects coffee exports in the producing countries. This research used secondary data obtained from the International Coffee Organization, Pen World Table, World Bank, Food and Agricultural Organization, and KoF Globalization Index to achieve its goals. We used secondary data from 1990 to 2018 from various foreign databases. The research used a two-step system GMM (sys-GMM) to analyze the effect of globalization on coffee export in twenty-four producing countries. We found that export lag, gross domestic product (GDP), exchange rate, and the political globalization index (PGI) positively and significantly impact coffee exports. Meanwhile, coffee exports were unaffected by the level of export prices and the human capital index. Surprisingly, the trade globalization index has a negative impact on coffee exports. This demonstrates the unpreparedness of coffee-producing countries to face tough competition in trade globalization. The political globalization index, the final variable, has a positive impact on exports. With the opening up of world politics, it seems that the environment of democracy in producing countries is increasing. As a result, governments in these countries have adopted a policy of aggressively supporting coffee exports.

동남아시아 역내교역 결정요인 분석 및 시사점 (A Study on Promoting the Intra-Regional Trade in Southeast Asia)

  • This study examines the measures for the activation and the growth of intra-regional trade in Southeast Asia taking a look at the four dimensions of tariff rates, non-tariff barriers, trade facilitations, and trade infrastructures. Utilizing a gravity model, we performed empirical analysis and discussed the policy implications with the priorities to implement. To expand the intra-regional trade in Southeast Asia it would be necessary to enhance the level of trade facilitations and provide trade infrastructures, such as ports and airports as well as cutting the tariff rates and eliminating the non-trade barriers. In particular, in the case of exports of ASEAN6 to ASEAN6 the infrastructure is the important factor. Also, in the case of the exports of ASEAN6 to CLMV(Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, and Vietnam), it is expected that eliminating non-tariff barriers and enhancing trade facilitations may play important roles in the progress of intra-regional trade. These results may provide the important implications for Southeast Asian countries, which are trying to promote intra-regional trade ahead of the constitution of ASEAN Economic Community by 2015. Southeast Asian countries could be evaluated to achieve a certain level of trade liberalization and economic integration through the formation of AFTA. But in order for Southeast Asia to develop to advanced economic integrated region it requires mutual cooperations and policy harmonizations among regional countries. Also, for the elimination of non-tariff barriers, promoting trade facilitations, and providing infrastructures, the administrative, legal, and institutional measures would have to be fulfilled in advance. In addition, capital investment for constructing infrastructures would be necessary to realize the intra-regional trade expansion. However, to achieve the goal, it would require a large capital investment and highly mandated policy considerations and harmonizations among Southeast Asian countries in terms of further trade liberalization and economic integration.
