Recently, SRMs are used in automobiles for power assistant steering, accessory motion control and traction drives. Especially in the motion control and traction drives, safety and efficiency are of paramount important. The paper describes the essential elements, faced in designing and constructing drive circuits for a switched reluctance motor for automobiles. These converters will be referred to as energy efficient C-dump converter and modified C-dump converter Energy efficient C-dump converter topology eliminate all the disadvantages of the C-dump converter without sacrificing its attractive features, and also provide some additional advantages that have lower number of power devices, full regenerative capability, free-wheeling in chopping or PWM mode, simple control strategy, and faster demagnetization during commutation. The experiments are peformed to verify the capability of proposed control method on 6/4 salient type SRM.
This paper introduces the propulsion system for Korean High Speed Railway(HSR). The developed propulsion system consists of PWM AC/DC converter and inverter. Compared with TGV-K, converters can improve input harmonics characteristics by the interlaced PW switching methods. And several merits such as unity power factor and simple regenerative operations can be also made. As a main power component, IGCT stack with suitable structure for high speed train and environmentally friendly cooling heat pipe is designed. In this paper, overall configuration of controller and control scheme is briefly described. Finally running tests are made to verify the developed propulsion system. The presented test results shows fast torque response, balanced converter current sharing, and appropriate running sequence.
The electric railway has been widely used as a transportation all over the world. It also was opened in 1973 in korea and it has been steadily proceeded in making electric railway network for a big city and building Keongbu high speed , electric railway. That's why the system of electric railway is able to solve the environmental pollution and operate the useful energy in environmental ways, it helps to increase the ability of transportation and to decrease the cost. Because of the advantage of making the economic situation better, the system of electric railway is trying to do their best in developing technique of electric railway. Because of the increasing of transportation and the high speed operation, cars with regenerative braking system was adapted. Therefore, unbalanced voltage and current of three phase system and the drop and rise of voltage of feeding circuit is expected. Now that building the substation, newly spends lots of costs and time, it is a very difficult situation to solve the problem. We can guess that electric railway line can't receive power from the power system of bigger size in building newly electric railway. In this paper, it was proved that series voltage compensator was suitable as a solution according to voltage drop and voltage fluctuating through computer simulation.
Owing to the consistent increase in accurate analysis issue for energy consumption of the AC electric railway systems, there is controversy about the adequacy of the present watt-hour metering configuration. Due to the unusual load characteristics and facilities, the discussions have not been active. Therefore, in order to achieve more accurate watt-hour metering for AC electric railway system, this paper proposes numerical formulas for watt-hour metering that reflects the highly-varying characteristics of the railway load and the structural characteristics of the Scott transformer. The proposed formulas have been verified by comparison with site-measured data, and a more suitable metering configuration for AC railway system has been proposed.
This paper considers the problem of revising train departure time to reduce electric power consumption of mass rapid transit (MRT) railways. The motion of a train running between stations is divided into three phases: traction, coasting, and deceleration phases. The traction phase requires high electric power to operate MRT railways. In the coasting phase, the train moves stably by consuming little or no power. The deceleration phase is a braking mode and produces some electric power called regenerated brake power owing to inertia force for the train generated In the traction and coasting phases. The regenerative energy can be used by other accelerating trains within a specific range from the train and thereby the power consumptions of train can be reduced. We developed a mixed integer programming model to solve the problem. To validate the suggested model, a computational experiment was conducted using real data from Korea Metropolitan Subway.
Overhead line voltage of DC railway traction substations has rising or falling characteristics depending on the acceleration and regenerative braking of the subway train loads. The suppression of this irregular fluctuation of the line voltage gives rise to improved energy efficiency of both the railway substation and the trains. This paper presents parameter estimation schemes using the RC circuit model for an overhead line voltage at a 1500V DC electric railway traction substation. A linear artificial neural network with a back-propagation learning algorithm was trained using the measurement data for an overhead line voltage and four feeder currents. The least square estimation method was configured to implement batch processing of these measurement data. These estimation results have been presented and performance analysis has been achieved through raw data simulation.

Hybrid desiccant cooling system(HDCS) consists of desiccant rotor, regenerative evaporative cooler, heat pump and district heating hot water coil. In this study, TRNSYS and EES, dynamic and steady simulation programs were used for studying hybrid desiccant cooling system which is applied to an apartment house from June to August. The results show that power consumption of the hybrid desiccant cooling system is 70 kWh in June, 199 kWh in July and 241 kWh in August. Sensible and latent heats removed by the hybrid desiccant cooling system are 300 kWh, 301 kWh in June, 610 kWh, 858 kWh in July and 719 kWh, 1010 kWh in August. COP of the hybrid desiccant cooling system is 8.6 in June, 7.4 in July and 7.2 in August. COP of the hybrid desiccant cooling system decreases when latent heat load increases. Operation time of the system is 70 hours in June, 190 hours in July and 229 hours in August. Since the cooling load is largest in August, the operation time of August is longest for maintaining the indoor temperature at $26^{\circ}C$. Due to the characteristics of hybrid desiccant cooling system for efficiently handling both sensible and latent loads, this system can handle sensible and latent heat loads efficiently in summer.
As awareness of environmental pollution problems increases worldwide, interest in air pollutants is increasing. In particular, NOx and PM, which are major pollutants in diesel vehicles, are contributing significantly to emissions. As a result, its importance is increasing. In this study, based on research results applied to large diesel vehicles, the problem of natural regeneration caused by low exhaust gas temperature during low speed and low load operation is solved by applying a complex regeneration DPF that is not affected by temperature conditions to small diesel vehicles. The feasibility of application to small diesel vehicles was reviewed by measuring the emission reduction efficiency. As a result of the engine test, the power reduction rate and fuel consumption rate before and after device installation under full load conditions were 2.9% decrease and 3.5% increase, respectively, satisfying the standard for a 5% reduction, and as a result of the regeneration equilibrium temperature (BPT) test, the regeneration temperature was 310℃. appeared at the level. The reduction efficiency test results for the actual vehicle durability test equipment showed 97.3% PM, 51.0% CO, and 31.1% HC, while the city commuter vehicle had PM 97.5%, CO 61.7%, HC 40.0%, and the school bus vehicle had PM 96.8%, CO 44.4%, HC 34.3%, and low-speed logistics vehicles showed a reduction efficiency of 98.2% for PM, 36.0% for CO, and 45.7% for HC. Based on the results of this study, in the future, it is necessary to secure DPF technology suitable for all vehicle types through actual vehicle application research on temperature condition-insensitive composite regenerative DPF for medium-sized vehicles.

This paper proposes a dc power regenerating systems, which can generate the excessive dc power from dc bus line to ac supply in substations for traction system The proposed regeneration inverter system for dc traction can be used as both an inverter and an active power filter(APF). As an regeneration inverter mode, it can recycle regenerative energy caused by decelerating tractions and as an active power filter mode, it can compensate for harmonic distortion produced by the rectifier substation. From the viewpoint of both power capacity and switching losses, the system is designed on the basis of three phase PWM inverters and composed of parallel inverters, output transformers, and an LCL filter.
Power supply for railway cars can be divided into propulsion system power supply and auxiliary power units (APU). The propulsion system power supply is for propulsion of railway cars, and regenerative braking; the APU provides power for the air compressor, lighting, car control and other auxiliary parts. According to high voltage and high current specifications, generally, an insulated-gate bipolar transistor (IGBT) is adopted for the switching component. For appropriate switching operation, a gate driver unit (GDU) is essentially required. In this paper, the technical trends of GDU for railway cars are analyzed and a design consideration for IGBT GDU is described.
