A Flow Analysis of a Refrigeration Warehouse where an Unusual Death of an Operator Occurred by Deficiency of Oxygen

  • A numerical flow analysis of the case of a refrigeration warehouse where an unusual death of an operator occurred by deficiency of oxygen is performed by using STAR-CD program of the computational fluid dynamics (CFD) code. The refrigeration room of the warehouse for storing the fruits maintains an atmosphere of 95% nitrogen and 5% oxygen by volume. When the operator was found dead in the refrigeration room, the room was in normal operating conditions except for the fact that the auxiliary door had been left open. For the flow analysis, unsteady 3-dimensional natural convection with mass transfer is considered. The flow analysis result is compared with the oxygen concentration level measured against time during on-site investigation. The change in oxygen concentration level in the warehouse due to the opening of the auxiliary door is found to be negligible.

  • 냉동 냉장창고용 냉수펌프 시스템을 태양광발전 시스템과 연계하여 펌프의 양정 및 유량의 변화에 따른 압력의 변화에도 불구하고 목표치 압력을 일정하게 제어할 수 있도록 하였다. BLDC 모터를 벡터제어 함으로써 각 운전속도의 영역에서 최대토크 운전 및 높은 신뢰성을 가능하도록 하여 냉동 냉장창고용 냉수 펌프 시스템의 에너지 절감 효과를 실현하였다.

  • We are interaction refrigeration warehouse cold water pump system and photovoltaic generation system. At this time, a target pressure is able to control in spite of change of the pressure according to pump head and rate of flow of pump. Also, we carry out the vector control of BLDC moor with the maximum torque operation and a high reliability from territory of each operation speed. Therefore, in this paper, we conclude energy saving technique of refrigeration warehouse cold water pump system.

  • This study aims to suggest envelope structure which can improve the insulation performance of cold storage warehouse with cost effectiveness. Envelope structures are classified and economical efficiency of each type is evaluated to the model warehouse. As results, type 3 (PC wall) and 4(sandwich panel wall) have benefits to the middle/large (lifetime of 25 years) and small (lifetime of 12∼13 years) warehouse, respectively.

  • When Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) is vaporized into NG for industrial and household usage, tremendous cold energy was transferred from LNG to seawater during phase-changing process. This heat exchanger loop is not only a waste of huge cold energy, but will cause thermal pollution to the coastal fishery area also when cold water was re-injected into the sea. In this study, an innovation design has been performed to reclaim the cold energy for -35 to $62^{\circ}C$ refrigerated warehouse. Conventionally, this was done by installing mechanical refrigeration systems, necessitating tremendous electrical power to drive temperature. A closed loop LNG heat exchangers in series was designed to replace the mechanical or vapor-compression refrigeration cycle by process simulator. The process simulation software of PRO II with provision has been used to simulate this process for various conditions, what to effect on cold energy and used energy for re-liquefaction and evaporation process. In addition, through analysis the effect of the change of LNG supply pressure on sensible and latent heat, optimum operational conditions was suggested for LNG cold energy warehouse.

  • This paper focuses on the frozen storage warehouse located in Busan area, and it is because Busan is the most dense area in Korea. Busan is a port city, and almost all of the frozen refrigerated cargo imported from abroad is concentrated. By taking advantage of its strength as a fishery industry as well as importing, Busan is building the largest international fishery logistics base in Northeast Asia and plays an important role in the export of refrigerated cargo is. Therefore, although the freezing and chilling facilities seem to be developed with the latest technology, the reality is not so. Most of them are functioning as a warehouse, that is, a storage function, and a considerable number of refrigerated warehouses are in a state of aging. Therefore, in this paper, the facility and function restructuring of the freezing storage warehouse have been set as a solution task, and the introduction of the cold chain system containing the latest smart technology has been proposed as a solution.

  • When liquefied natural gas (LNG) is vaporized to form natural gas for industrial and household consumption, a tremendous amount of cold energy is transferred from LNG to seawater as a part of the phase-change process. This heat exchange loop is not only a waste of cold energy, but causes thermal pollution to coastal fishery areas by dumping the cold energy into the sea. This project describes an innovative new design for reclaiming cold energy for use by cold storage warehouses (operating in the 35 to $62^{\circ}C$ range). Conventionally, warehouse cooling is done by mechanical refrigeration systems that consume large amounts of electricity for the maintenance of low temperatures. Here, a closed loop LNG heat exchange system was designed (by simulator) to replace mechanical or vapor-compression refrigeration systems. The software PRO II with PROVISION V9.4 was used to simulate LNG cold energy, gas re-liquefaction, and the vaporized process under various conditions. The effects on sensible and latent heats from changes to the array type of heat exchangers have been investigated, as well as an examination of the optimum.

  • This study aims to find out the optimized insulation thickness of refrigerated warehouse with different envelope structures (RC and PC wall) and insulation materials (urethane and icynene). Each of them is compared according to the thickness of insulation (100, 150, 200 mm/50 or 250 mm) and the temperature of cold storage room (0, -6, -15$^{\circ}C$). As results, it is proved to have the best economical efficiency in life cycle cost when PC wall with thickness of 100 mm (0 and -6$^{\circ}C$) and 150 m (-15$^{\circ}C$) urethane, respectively, are applied.

  • In this paper, several types of infiltration prevention devices that are currently in use have been studied through experimental investigation. Firstly, the types of infiltration prevention devices were defined through investigating actual conditions of refrigerated warehouse in operates. Based on this investigation results, measured change of temperature and figured out air change rates of the type of infiltration prevention devices by using scale down model. After that, found the amount of air change rate in order to estimate the load of air change easily in facility plan.

냉동창고 화재 사례를 기반으로 하는 NFPA 921 CODE에 의한 과학적 화재조사 연구 (Scientific fire investigation by NFPA 921 CODE based on frozen warehouse fire case)

  • 본 연구에서는 2017년 20건의 화재가 발생한 냉동창고 화재사례중 발화원인의 판정에 다수의 의견이 존재하였던 사례에 대해 연구하였다. 연구 방법론은 NFPA 921 CODE에서 규정하고 있는 과학적 화재조사 방법이다. 과학적 화재조사 방법은 가설설정을 통한 논리적 추론에 의한 화재조사 방법으로 발화원인 판단에 오류를 최소화 시킨다. 반면에 비과학적 화재조사 방법은 발화원인의 판단에 주관적 추측, 추론적 판단 등의 비합리적 요소의 개입으로 많은 오류를 발생시킨다. 이는 결국 인적, 물적 책임의 문제 및 학문적 퇴보를 가져온다. 특히 목격된 화재(Sighted fire)에 비해 목격되지 않는 화재(Fire not seen)의 경우 원인조사에 있어서 더 많은 발화원인 의 오류를 만든다. 본 연구에서는 2017년 **시 **마트에서 발생한 냉동창고 정온전선의 화재사례에 대해 화재조사 보고서의 검토, 현장조사를 바탕으로한 가설A 와 가설B의 설정하였다. 설정된 가설은 NFPA 921 code 규정하고 있는 연역적 검정 방법중 실험으로 검정하였다. 이러한 분석방법은 향후 목격되지 않는 화재(Fire not seen) 및 원인 불명 화재의 발화원인 판단에 NEW Paradigm의 구축 할 것이다. 또한 본 연구의 실험 자료는 냉동창고 제조사 및 운영사에 통보, 화재 예방을 위한 기초 자료로 활용 될 것이다.
