Experiments were performed to investigate the condensing heat transfer characteristics of non-azeotropic mixtures of R-22 and R-114 in a heat pump system with a horizontal smooth tube as a condenser. The ranges of parameters, such as heating capacity, mass flow rate of refrigerant and quality were 780-3,480W, 24-71kg/h, and 0-1, respectively. The overall compositions of R-22 in a R-22/114 mixture were 25, 50, 75 and 100 per cent by wight. The results show that the overall condensing heat transfer coefficients for the mixtures were lower than the pure R-22 values. Local heat transfer coefficient of the pure R-22 was hghest at the top of the test tube. The local heat transfer coefficient of R-22/114 (50/50 wt%) at side and bottom of the test tube was higher than that at the top. From the obtained data, a prediction for the condensing heat transfer coefficients of the mixture was done based on the method of Fujii.
R-410A, R-407C, and four refrigerant mixtures composed of R-32, R-l34a, R-l43a, R-l52a, R-600(butane), and R-600a(isobutane) were tested in an attempt to replace R-22 used in most of the residential air conditioners. The performance evaluation was carried out in a psychrometric calorimeter test facility using a residential spilt type air conditioner under the KS rating conditions. Except for the lubricant and hand-operated expansion valve, the other parts of the air conditioner were the same with the commercial system. Performance characteristics were measured; COP, capacity, compressor power, and VCR. R-410A was shown to have 5.5% higher COP and 3.5% lower capacity than R-22. R-32/134a/600a (42.8/ 46.0/11.2 wt%) mixture have the best performance among the four refrigerant mixtures composed of hydrofluorocarbon and hydrocarbon. This inixture have 3.0% lower COP and 1.6% lower capacity than R-22.
The characteristics of the flow of pure HFC refrigerants(R32, R125, and R134a) and their mixtures through capillary tubes were investigated experimentally. Two capillary tubes with 1.2mm and 1.6mm inner diameter and 1.5m length were adopted as test sections. Mass flow rates and temperatures and pressures were measured for several condensing temperatures and degrees of subcooling at capillary tube inlet. The effects of the condensing temperature, inner diameter of capillary tube, and subcooling on the mass flow rate of refrigerants were discussed, and the mass flow rates of HFC refrigerants were compared with that of R22. The pressure and temperature distributions along the capillary tube compared with that of R22. The pressure and temperature distributions along the capillary tube show that there is a metastable equilibrium state in the flow through the tube. Underpressure for vaporization increases as refrigerant mass flux increases and inlet subcooling decreases. Empirical correlation was suggested to predict underpressure for vaporization of the HFC refrigerants.
In this paper, The performance of Kim-Chi refrigerator with three evaporator and one compressor was investigated in employing 55% propane and 45% isobutane (R290/R600a) refrigerant mixture as an alternative refrigerant of R134a. The drop in test was performed by varying both refrigerant charge amount and capillary tube length in order to find both the performance and reliability of a small multi-refrigeration system. As a result, Both the power consumption and COP is increased by about 15% and 10%, respectively as compared to the baseline R134a system. In addition, the propane/isobutene refrigerant mixture system took advantage of the minimization of modification and redesigning of system components because of similar thermodynamic properties with R134a such as saturation pressure, temperature, normal boiling point(NBP) characteristics
A performance analysis simulation program that can be applied to a hermetic reciprocating compressor with various refrigerants has been developed. For the numerical analysis, the passage of refrigerant in compressor is subdivided into control volumes. Instead of the ideal gas assumption, CSD equation of state is applied to calculate the thermodynamic properties of refrigerants. To verify the validity of developed program, the result has been compared with the experimental data served by the compressor supplier. The performance of each refrigerant and the possibility of direct application are estimated by applying R12, 134a, R290, R600a and R290/R600a mixture to an existing compressor. Also, parametric study for various crank rotating speeds and the mole fractions of refrigerant has been performed.
In this paper, the performance of Kim-chi refrigerator with three evaporator and one compressor was investigated in employing $55\%$ propane and $45\%$ isobutane (R290/R600a) refrigerant mixture as an alternative refrigerant of R134a. The drop-in test was performed by varying both refrigerant charge and capillary tube length in order to find both the performance and reliability of a small multi-refrigeration system. Results show that the power consumption is decreased by about $15\%$ and COP is increased by about $10\%$, respectively as compared to the baseline system using R-134a. In addition, the propane/isobutane refrigerant mixture system took advantage of the minimization of modification and redesigning of system components because thermodynamic properties such as saturation pressure, temperature, normal boiling point(NBP) characteristics are similar to those of R134a. The reduction of sales cost is caused by the decrease of refrigerant cost per unit mass and refrigerant charge amount necessary for the refrigeration system.
To prevent green house effect and destruction of an ozone layer, an ozone destruction potential(OBP) must be zero and a refrigerant for low global warming potential(GWP) is needed. HFC-l34a, in which hydrogen is mixed instead of chlorine is a refrigerant used for automobile conditioners and its destruction potential is ecologically zero. However, it is not consid- ered as a perfect substitutive refrigerant as its GWP is high. It is studied refrigerant mixtures in which HFC-l52a and $CF_3 I$ in HFC-l52a with low GWP and zero ODP are mixed by experimentally and concluded as follows: 1) With the variation of speed of compressor outside temperature and flow rate, 7he heat of evaporator and compressor and coefficient of perfor- mance was varied, and influenced the air conditioner. 2) The pressure of evaporator was decreased with increasing the speed of compressor and the pressure of evaporator with the refrigerant HFC-l52a was higher 24% than that of azotrope refrigerant mixed with $CF_3 I$
The purpose of this study is to investigate the performance of an autocascade refrigeration system by simulation and experiment using refrigerant mixtures of R744/134a and R744/290 as working fluid. Variations of mass flow rate of refrigerant, compressor work refrigeration capacity and COP with respect to mass fraction of R744/134a and R744/290 mixture were presented under different operating conditions. Performance test has been executed by ASRAE standard. Experimental results show as the composition of R744 in the refrigerant mixture increases, heating and coling capacity are enhanced, but COP trends to decrease. Experimental results are compared with those from the simulation.
The forced convective boiling heat transfer coefficients of R-407C were measured inside a horizontal tube 6.0mm I.D. and 4.0m long. The heat transfer coefficients increased according to an increase in heat flux at constant mass flux. Because nucleation was completely suppressed in the two-phase flow region with high quality, heat transfer coefficients in forced convective evaporation were higher than those in nucleate boiling region. Average heat transfer coefficients of R-407C were about 30 percent lower than the pure refrigerant correlation, due to mass transfer resistance at the gas-liquid interface. However, the total experimental data shows an agreement with the predicted data for ternary refrigerant mixtures with a mean deviation of 30%.
