Experimental results for forced convection heat transfer of pure refrigerant and nonrefrigerant mixtures during condensing inside horizontal smooth tubes, double pipe heat exchanger of 7.5 mm ID and 4 000 mm long inside tube, are presented. Pure refrigerant R - 22 and R - 407 c, the mixture of R - 32 + R - 125 + R - 134a (23/25/52, wt %) are used as the test fluids. The ranges of parameters are $114.3{\sim}267.1 kg/(m^2 {\cdot} s)$ of mass velocity, <0$\sim$1.0 of quality. The vapor pressure, vapor temperature and tube wall temperature were measured. Using these data, the local and average heat transfer coefficients for the condensation are obtained. At the same given experimental conditions, the condensation heat transfer coefficients for NARMs R - 407c were lower than those for the pure refrigerant of R - 22. Local heat transfer characteristics for R - 407c were different from pure refrigerant R - 22. The condensaheat transfer coefficients for R - 407c and R - 22 increased with mass velocity. Based on the data a prediction method was presented for the calculation of dimensionless average heat transfer coefficient.
This paper presents the modeling approach that can predict transient behavior of rotary compressor. Mass and energy conservation laws are applied to the control volume, real gas state equation is used to obtain thermodynamic properties of refrigerant. The valve equation is solved to analyze discharge process also. Dynamic analysis of vane and roller is carried out to gain friction work. From the above modeling, the performance of rotary compressor with radial clearance and friction loss is investigated numerically. The performance of each refrigerant is estimated, respectively by applying R12, R134a, and R290/ R600a mixture.

The investigation has been made into the prediction of heat exchange performance of a counter flow type double-tube condenser for natural refrigerant mixtures composed of Propane/n-Butane or Propane/i-Butane in a smooth tube and micro-fin tube. Under various heat transfer conditions, mass flux, pressure drop and heat transfer coefficient of the mixed refrigerants were calculated using a prediction method, when the length of condensing tube, total heat transfer rate, mass flux and outlet temperature of coolant were maintained constant. Also, the predicted results were compared with those of HCFC22. The results showed that the mixed refrigerants of Propane/n-Butane or Propane/i-Butane could be substituted for HCFC22, while the pressure drop and overall heat transfer coefficient of the refrigerants were evaluated together.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the performance of an autocascade refrigeration system using the refrigerant miktures of R744 (carbon dioxide) and R134a (1,1,1,2-tetrafluoroethane) as working fluids by simulation and experiment. Cycle simulation using a constant UA model in heat exchangers has been performed for R744/134a mixtures of the compositions in the range of from 10/90 to 30/70 by weight percentage. Variations of mass flow rate of refrigerant, compressor work, refrigeration capacity and COP with respect to mass fraction of R744/134a mixture were presented. Performance test has been executed in an autocascade refrigeration system by varying secondary fluid temperatures at evaporator and condenser inlets. Experimental results show similar trend with those from the simulation.
In this study, experiments were carried out to provide nucleate pool boiling heat transfer data for a plain tube and 4 different low fin tubes employing 2 refrigerant mixtures of R410A, R407C, and 12 pure fluids. Low fin tubes were machined on a 19.05mm nominal outside diameter copper block according to the manufacturer's low fin tube specifications. Cartridge heaters were used to generate uniform heat flux on the tubes. For all refrigerants, heat flux varied from 10㎾/$\m^2$ to 80㎾/$\m^2$. It is found that heat transfer coefficients(HTCs) of high vapor pressure refrigerants are usually higher than those of low pressure fluids. On the other hand, the fin effect was more prominent with low pressure refrigerants than with high pressure ones. Optimum fin density as well as the increase in heat transfer coefficient with the increase in fin density were found to be strongly fluid dependent. HTCs of Rl23, a low pressure alternative refrigerant, were similar to those of Rll while HTCs of R134a, an intermediate pressure alternative refrigerant, were roughly 20% higher than those of Rl2. Finally, HTCs of R32, R125, R143a, and R410A were all higher than those of R22 by 30~50%.
Carbon dioxide ($CO_2$, R-744) has become a very popular issue in application to refrigeration and air conditioning systems as a natural refrigerant. An experimental study has been carried out to investigate miscibility and the vapor pressure of refrigerant R-744 in the presence of lubricant oil. This is of particular interest in the selection of the lubricant oil for the compressor of a refrigeration system or an air conditioning system using the refrigerant R-744. The experimental set-up consists of the equilibrium cell, measuring devices, the vacuum pump, the constant temperature bath and relevant connecting pipes made of stainless steel. Five lubricant oils, such as mineral oil (Naphthenic), AB (Alkyl Benzene) oil, PAO (Poly Alpha Olefin) oil, PAG (Poly Alkylene Glycol) oil and POE (Polyol Ester) oil are considered in the present study. Test runs were conducted with the oil concentration range from 5 to 50 wt%, and the temperature range from -10 to 1$0^{\circ}C$ with 2$^{\circ}C$ intervals. The miscibility results are visualized and correlated with the vapor pressure for the individual test components.
The vapor pressure and miscibility measurement apparatus was developed and used to obtain data for refrigerant/oil mixture. The vapor pressure and miscibility data for R-404A/32 ISO VG polyol ester (POE) oil mixture and R-404A/46 ISO VG polyol ester oil mixture are obtained over the temperature range from -20 to $60^{\circ}$ with at $10^{\circ}$ intervals and the oil concentration range from 0 to 70 wt%. Using the experimental data, an empirical model was developed to predict the temperature vapor pressure-concentration relations for R-404A/46 ISO VG polyol ester oil mixtures at equilibrium. In the R-404A/32 ISO VG polyol ester oil mixture, the average root-mean-square deviation between measured data and calculated results from the empirical model is 1.24% and in the R-404A/46 ISO VG polyol ester oil mixture, that is 1.37%. Miscibility for R-404A/32 ISO VG polyol ester oil mixture was observed all over the experimental conditions. Immiscibility for R-404A/So1est 46 oil mixture was observed at the low oil concentrations (20~30 wt%) over the high experimental temperature range (50~$60^{\circ}$).
An experimental study was carried out to measure the heat transfer coefficient in flow boiling to mixtures of HFC-l34a and HCFC-123 in a uniformly heated horizontal tube. Tests were run at a pressure of 0.6 MPa and in the ranges of heat flux 1-50 kw/$m^2$, vapor quality 0-100 % and mass velocity 150-600 kg/$m^2$s. Heat transfer coefficients of mixture were less than the interpolated values between pure fluids both in the low quality region where the nucleate boiling is dominant and in the high quality region where the convective evaporation is dominant. Measured data of heat transfer are compared to a few available correlations proposed for mixtures. The correlation of Jung et. al. satisfactorily predicted the present data, but the data in lower quality was overpredicted and underpredicted the high quality data. The correlation of Kandlikar considerably underpredicted most of the data. and showed the mean deviation of 35.1%.
An analysis of convective boiling heat transfer for refrigerant mixtures is performed for an annular flow to investigate the degradation of the heat transfer rate. Annular flow is selected in this study because a great portion of the evaporator in the refrigeration and air conditioning system is known to be in the annular flow regime. Mass transfer effect due to composition difference between liquid and vapor is included in this analysis, which is considered to be one of driving forces for the mass transfer at the interface. Due to the concentration gradient at the interface the mass transfer is interfered, so is the evaporative heat transfer at the interface. The mass transfer resistance makes the interface temperature slightly higher and, as a result, the heat transfer coefficients decrease compared with those without mass transfer effects. The degradatioin of the heat transfer rate reaches its maximum at a certain composition. The composition difference between vapor core and vapor at the interface has a direct effect on the temperature difference between the vapor core and the interface and the degradation of the heat transfer rate. Correction factor $C_{F}$ for the mixture effects is added to the correlation for pure substances and the flow boiling heat transfer coefficients can be calculated using the modified equation.n.
In this study, natural refrigerants and their mixtures that can supplement and replace R12 and R134a in automobile air-conditioners are studied. R134a is currently used as the refrigerant in new motor vehicle air conditioners, replacing the ozone depleting refrigerant R12. Although R134a has no ozone depletion potential, it has a relatively large global warming potential, approximately 1300 times that of $CO_2$ over a 100 year time horizon. For this reason, performance of natural refrigerants and their mixtures containing R152a, RE170 (Dimethylether, DME) and R600a (Isobutane) are measured under 2 different temperature conditions. They were tested in a refrigerating bench tester with an open type compressor. The test bench provided about 4 kW capacity and water and water/glycol mixture were employed as the secondary heat transfer fluids. Test results show that the coefficient of performance (COP) of these refrigerants is up to 21.55% higher than that of R12 in all temperature conditions. Overall, these fluids provide good performance with reasonable energy savings without any environmental problem and thus can be used as long term alternatives for automobile air-conditioners.
