An air source heat pump using liquid injection technique, which can be applied for very low temperature climate, has been simulated to examine the design options. Comparison between the simulation and experiment has been carried out to validate the simulation method. Effects of various design parameters such as liquid injection rate and injection pressure are Investigated to optimize the performance of the heat pump. Finally, optimal liquid infection rate and injection pressure to maintain sufficient heating capacity and moderate discharge refrigerant temperature are suggested when the heat pump was operated at very low outdoor temperature.
This paper presents a numerical study on the performance of a vapor compression cycle equipped with an ejector as an expansion device to improve the COP by reducing the expansion loss and compressor work. The simulation is carried out using a model based on the conservation of mass, energy and momentum in the ejector. From the results of the simulation, the vapor compression cycle equipped with an ejector showed a maximum COP improvement of 14.0% when using R134a refrigerant and 16.8% when using R1234yf. In addition, the performance of the system with an ejector represents the increased performance as the temperature difference between condensing and evaporating increased.
The power generation system using cold energy, which evolves in a large amount during the vaporization process of the liquefied natural gas, was designed in favor of the Rankine cycle with a mixed refrigerant as the working fluid. In this study it is intended to identify the allowable limits of the working fluid composition in respect of equipment safety in the Rankine cycle-type power generation system driven by the cold energy. The thermodynamic properties of the working fluid, which is a hydrocarbon mixture, were calculated with the Peng-Robinson model. In the steady state simulation of the power generation system by using a commercial tool Aspen HYSYS, the feed conditions of LNG Test Bed Train No.1 along with some necessary assumptions were incorporated. The results indicated that deterioration of the mechanical performance of the equipment as well as its safety would be brought about if contents of $C_2H_6$ and $C_3H_8$ in the mixture become, respectively, too high or too low.
In this study, a computer simulation work has been performed for the separation of electronic grade highly pure carbon dioxide more than 7 N purity through a cryogenic distillation process. For the cold utility as a cooling medium for a condenser of the cryogenic distillation column, propylene was utilized as a refrigerant in the vapor-recompression refrigeration cycle. Through this work, it was concluded that the cryogenic distillation column with two stage compression and refrigeration cycle were essential to obtain a highly-pure liquefied CO2.
A domestic refrigerator is composed of many components such as a compressor, evaporator, capillary tube, and the cabinet which plays a great role on the cycle performance, even if it is not the basic component part in the cycle. Recently, the restriction policy on the energy-saving and environmentally friendly refrigerator is reinforced in our nation as well as developed countries. Therefore, in this paper, cycle simulations and experiments were carried out ito understand the characteristics of the cycle performance using CFC 12, HFC 134a, and HC 600a and to know how changes in UA(overall heat transfer coefficients$\times$ heat transfer area) of evaporator, the position displacement of compressor, and the rpm of fan in the freezing room which has influence on the cycle performance. The result shows that the quantitative values of simulation and experiment are not coincident, but their trend is similar. When HFC 134a and HC 600a were used without the change of design in refrigerator used CFC 12, the performance of system in HC 600a is 30% lower, and the case of HFC 134a is 10% lower than that of CFC 12 on freezing temperature.
This study describes the results of Coefficient Of Performance(COP) analysis by cycle simulation for two types of absorption-compression hybride cycle using the water/Lithium Bromide solution pair, These types are basic hybride systems introducing a mechanical compression process into the refrigerant vapor phase of the single effect absorption cycle. In absorption-compression hybrid cycles, coefficient of performance is improved compared with absorption cycle. Hybride cycle Type ll is considered as a key technology to support energy utilization system, given its capability of utilizing waste heat to drive system with a high level of efficiency.
This study was carried out to develop a simulation model with EES(Engineering equation solver) for analyzing the performance of a grain cooler. In order to validate the developed simulation model, several main factors which have affected on the performance of the gain cooler were investigated through experiments. A simulation model was developed in the standard vapor compression cycle, and then this model was modified considering irreversibe factors so that the developed alternate model could predict the actual cycle of a grain cooler. The compressor efficiency in vapor compression cycle considering irreversibility much affected on the coefficient of performance(COP). The COP in the standard vapor compression cycle model was greatly as high as about 6.50, but the COP in an alternative model considering irreversibility was as low as about 3.27. As a result of comparison between the actual cycle and the vapor compression cycle considering irreversibility, the difference of pressure at compressor outlet(inlet) was a little by about 48kPa (8.8kPa), the temperatures of refrigerant at main parts of the grain cooler were similar. and the temperature of chilled air was about 8$\^{C}$ in both. The model considering irreversibility could predict performance of the grain cooler. The theoretical period required to chill grain of 1,383kg from the initial temperature 24$\^{C}$ to below 11$\^{C}$ was about 55 hours 30 minutes, and the actual period required in a grain bin was about 58 hours. The difference between the predicted and an actual period was about 2 hours 30 minutes. The cooling performance predicted by the developed model could well estimate the cooling period required to chill the grain.
A computer program was developed for simulating performance(capacity, power consumption and etc.) of air-conditioners using compressor, fin-tube heat exchanger and capillary tube. The program consists of five modules, condenser, evaporator, compressor, capillary tube simulation modules and properties modules of refrigerant and moist air, The present program is focused on R22 only, however can be easily extended for other refrigerants such as R407C and R410A just by adding property modules. The compressor simulation module utilizes performance maps supplied by manufacturers-map-based model. The condenser and evaporator simulation modules are modeled using tube-by-tube method. Simulation results(capacity and power consumption) were compared with calorimeter test results of actual air-conditioners of window and split types, where more than 82% of the data lied within ${\pm}5$% of the predicted results.

In order to evaluate the performance of carbon dioxide cycle with a sub-cooling loop. a simulation system was developed to predict the steady state of $CO_2$ trans-critical cycle. Mathematical models are derived to describe the relationships between the system's coefficient of performance and other operating parameters The mathematical models are based entirely on the basic mass and energy conservation law and thermodynamic and transport properties of carbon dioxide A parametric study has been conducted in order to investigate the effect of sub-cooling loop and various operating conditions on the cycle performance. An optimal mass fraction of a refrigerant flowing through sub-cooling cycle existed for the given evaporating temperature, high pressure and air inlet temperature through gas cooler.

A computer model of a high efficiency refrigeration system equipped with heat storage for reverse cycle-hot gas defrost (the stored heat is used during defrost cycle of the system) is presented. The model was developed based on both theoretical and empirical equations for the compressor, evaporator, condenser and the heat storage equipment. Simulations of the prototype system were carried out to investigate refrigeration system performance under various operating conditions during refrigeration cycles. The simulations of the evaporator during defrost cycles at 30 and $40^{\circ}C$ hot gas refrigerant temperature were also performed which resulted on shorter defrost time but only slight increase in defrost efficiency. These information on energy efficiency and the defrost time required are important in order to avoid excessive parasitic load and temperature rise of the refrigerated room.
