  • Digital holographic microscopy allows optical path difference measurement. Optical path difference depends on the both refractive index and morphology of sample. We developed a dual-wavelength in-line digital holographic microscope that can measure simultaneously the refractive index and morphology of a sample, providing highly precise three-dimensional information. Here we propose theoretical and experimental methods for dual-wavelength in-line digital holographic microscopy. The measured data were reasonable, although there was data error. By improving the experimental method, we could measure the refractive index more precisely and obtain more accurate three-dimensional information on samples.

  • In this paper, the theoretical analysis of lateral guiding in stripe geometry DH Laser Diode is performed. In the analysis, the gain & refractive index variations in active layer are modeled by very analogous methmatical function to their real profile and the two dimensional lateral waveguiding of DH LD have been analyzed by perturbation theory. Finally, the beam width dependence of refractive index variation(n), active layer width(d), and cavity length(L), have been analyzed.

  • A quantum well electroabsorption waveguide modulator utilizing a field-induced refractive index change was designed and fabricated. The on/off ratios of the device were investigated as a function of wavelength over the spectral range of 850 nm to 910 nm for the various reverse biases. The field-induced refractive index variations associated with quantum-confined Stark effect was theoretically obtained based on the measured on/off ratios. The resulting maximum refractive index change(${\DELTA}n) of ~7.5 {\times} 10^{-4}$ at -8 V was estimated.

  • [ $TiO_2$ ] nanoparticles are added into UV curable resin to increase the refractive index of the cover-layer which is laminated on the media for cover-layer incident NFR. High refractive index is required for the cover-layer operating for the solid immersion lens optics with high effective numerical aperture. The eyepattern could be achieved from the cover-layer coated 20 GB ROM disc in which the refractive index of the cover-layer was 1.75, but the gap servo was unstable due to the rough surface of the cover-layer. Even though the light loss due to the nanoparticles is not serious, the rough microstructure is developed by adding the nanoparticles in the organic binder material. To achieve smooth surface for the stable gap servo, some special techniques should be added, for example the solubility of the nanoparticles should be enhanced by the optimization of the surface of the nanoparticles.

  • Refractive index of glasses is important to develop a photosensitive paste for barrier rips in PDP. We investigated the refractive index and dielectric constant of glasses by contents of silica in $B_2O_3-Al_2O_3-SiO_2$ glasses. It is confirmed that the refractive index of the glass system is changed by the composition of glasses

  • Injection molding process factors such as molding temperature, injection pressure, flow rate and flow velocity, must be controlled properly in filling and packing phases in the injection molding process. In this study, effects of these factors on the injection molding were investigated through the flow analysis for birefringence and refractive index for pickup lens. This paper presents the birefringence and refractive index reduced with increasing the holding pressure and also the holding pressure time. And there are interaction with birefringence and fill time in the injection process. The optimal conditions through DOE are validated by using injection molding analysis.

  • We have investigated a refractive index sensor based on a cladded plastic optical fiber taper. The optical transmission and sensing characteristics of the device were illuminated in terms of ray optics. The sensor devices showed that the optical transmittance strongly depends on the refractive index of the external medium surrounding the tapered region.
