  • We present an analytic equation for the reflectivity spectrum of a Bragg reflector in terms of the front mirror reflectivity, due to the refractive index difference between the refractive index of outside medium and the average refractive index of Bragg reflector structures, and the reflectivity of a Bragg reflector calculated by the coupled wave method. We show that even Fresnel reflection causes the reflectivity spectrum of a bragg reflector to be very different from that of Bragg reflectors calculated by the coupled wave method. The reflectivity spectrum of a Bragg reflector is dramatically changed because the interference effect between the reflected wave from the front facet and that from the Bragg reflector is changed due to the difference of a phase change from a Bragg reflector when the sequence of layers in a Bragg reflector is changed.

  • For the high reflectance under the ambient light condition, a highly efficient diffractive reflector has been proposed, based on a micro grating structure.[1] This reflector was designed to show highly concentrated distribution of the reflected light to the normal direction of the reflector under specific incident conditions of the light. In order to apply a diffractive reflector to a reflective liquid crystal display, the coupling between the viewing angle characteristics of a liquid crystal (LC) cell and the reflective distribution of the reflector should be considered. Under the optimum configuration confirmed through the analysis of the coupling between a LC cell and a reflector, a reflective vertical alignment (VA) cell with a diffractive reflector shows contrast ratio and brightness much higher than that with a conventional bumpy reflector.

  • The LED backlight can be designed to have the desired uniformity by using many combination of reflector patterns. The uniformity of the LED backlight can improve by applying the specially designed reflector patterns. In this paper, it was shown that the 72.7% of luminance uniformity of the LED backlight with reflector patterns was obtained by computer simulation.

  • ACR(All Clear Reflector), also widely referred to as FFR(Free Form Reflector), were designed in general and intelligent ways using a NUDBS surface for the mathematical modelling of the reflector shape and artificial intelligence as the optimum design algorithm. An ACR, which consists of a continuous surface reflector and clear outer lens, offers styling advantages and provides a high quality light performance. The clear outer lens of an ACR remains efficient even with a highly inclined shape, as in the design of a sports car, as well as the complete clearness of the reflector surface eliminates the nuisance of stray light caused by the steps between adjacent segments of multi-faced reflectors. The application of an ACR to low beam lamp was so sucessful to obtain the sharp cut-off with the lens-free single-surfaced-smooth reflector. The design technique of ACR was tested with all types of lamps, including low beams, high beams, and fog lamps.

  • Purpose: To develop a dot sight device for a sighting shot using the doublet reflector. Methods: We designed the singlet reflector and the doublet reflector by Sigma 2000 program and compared the one to the other. Results: In analysis of finite ray aberration, we could confirm that it has the effective field of view with the free-parallax which is 3.3 times wider than the existing dot sight device using the singlet reflector. If you use the doublet reflector, the central thickness of optical system become more than two times bigger than the existing one. As a result, when the image of a target object is made on the observer's retina, if you make the first side's radius of curvature equal with the second one as the case of the singlet reflector, changes in magnification are appeared. To conquer this problem, we had to make be satisfied with the afocal condition in the case of doublet reflector. Conclusions: we could develop the dot sight device for a sighting shot using the doublet reflector which has the effective field of view with the free-parallax which is 3.3 times wider than the existing dot sight device using the singlet reflector.

  • The Korean Prototype Gen-IV sodium-cooled fast reactor (PGSFR) is supposed to be loaded with a relatively-costly low-enriched U fuel, while its envisaged transuranic fuels are not available for transmutation. In this work, the U-enrichment reduction by improving the neutron economy is pursued to save the fuel cost. To improve the neutron economy of the core, a new reflector material, PbO, has been introduced to replace the conventional HT9 reflector in the current PGSFR core. Two types of PbO reflectors are considered: one is the conventional pin-type and the other one is an inverted configuration. The inverted PbO reflector design is intended to maximize the PbO volume fraction in the reflector assembly. In addition, the core radial configuration is also modified to maximize the performance of the PbO reflector. For the baseline PGSFR core with several reflector options, the U enrichment requirement has been analyzed and the fuel depletion analysis is performed to derive the equilibrium cycle parameters. The linear reactivity model is used to determine the equilibrium cycle performances of the core. Impacts of the new PbO reflectors are characterized in terms of the cycle length, neutron leakage, radial power distribution, and operational fuel cost.

  • The photocatalytic reactor using immobilized $TiO_2$ on silicone sealant was studied bench scale using solar light as the source of radiation. The influences of parameters such as shape, polishing extent and size of reflector, distance between reactor and reflector, an angle of inclination between reactor system and ground, were studies using Rhodamine B (RhB) as a model compound. respectively. The decolorization of round type among the reflector shapes was higher than that of the polygon and W type. The polishing extent of the reflector did not show the decolorization largely. The optimum size of reflector and distance between reactor and reflector were 38 cm and 6 cm, respectively.

  • We investigated the effect on light extraction in OLED by introducing aluminum micro bump light scattering reflector. By attaching the micro bump reflector to a both side emission OLED, we found that the light extraction was 1.7 times larger than a simple flat reflector. We fabricated a 20.8” inch WXGA full color AM-OLED by integrating the micro bump scattering reflector.

  • This paper presents an examination of the spatial integration method for extracting the RCS of a trihedral corner reflector from SAR images for SAR external calibration. An exact external radiometric calibration technique is required for extracting an exact calibration constant. Therefore, we examine the accuracy of the spatial integration method, which is commonly used for the SAR external radiometric calibration. At first, an SAR image for a trihedral corner reflector is simulated with a high-resolution SAR impulse response with a known theoretical RCS of the reflector, and a background clutter image for the high resolution SAR system is also generated. Then, a SAR image in a high resolution is generated for a trihedral comer reflector located on a background clutter by superposition of the two SAR images. The radar cross section of a trihedral corner reflector in the SAR image is retrieved by integrating the radar signals of the pixels adjacent to the reflector for various size of the integration area. By comparison of the measured RCS by the integration method and the theoretical RCS of the reflector, the effect of the size of the integration area on the extraction of the calibration constant is examined.

  • In this paper, ADE(Axially Displaced Ellipse) Gregorian dual reflector antennas, which are the special form of Gregorian dual reflector antennas, were analyzed. In the procedure of antenna analysis, the aperture field distribution was obtained by using the geometrical optics and their far-field radiation characteristics were analyzed by using the aperture field method. The analysis results such as antenna efficiency, HPBW(Half Power Beam Width), FNBW(First Null Beam Width), and FSL(First Sidelobe Level) were presented as functions of edge taper and size of main reflector and subreflector. From the results in this paper, we could confirm that ADE reflector antennas have the different radiation characteristics from the classical dual reflector antennas.
