  • In this paper, we propose the IPTV QoE evaluation method reflecting service user's preference. This method can evaluate the IPTV service QoE using the fuzzy integral because it usefully employs a subjective decision for QoE(Quality of Experience) evaluation. IPTV subscribers can prepare a criterion to select an IPTV provider who provides high qualityQoE.

  • Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power Co. (KHNP) has developed and implemented the maintenance effectiveness monitoring (MR) programs for the operating nuclear power plants. The MR program is developed by reflecting design characteristics of the operating nuclear power plants to monitor the plant performance for improving the safety and reliability. Recently, KHNP has built a new nuclear power plant, and developed the MR program to establish the advanced maintenance system by reflecting unique design characteristics based on the OPR1000 standard model. So, the MR program developed in this study has another characteristics in comparison with the OPR1000 standard model, and we will verify the suitability of the MR program through evaluating initial performance of the plant. The safety and reliability of the new plant will be improved by developing and implementing the MR program.

촉각시스템을 위한 그래픽 변형 알고리즘 (Graphic Deformation Algorithm for Haptic Interface System)

  • In this paper, we propose a new graphic deformation algorithm for haptic interface system. Our deformable model is based on non-linear elasticity, anisotropy behavior and the finite element method. Also we developed controller for high-speed communication. The proposed controller is based on the PCI/FPGA technology, which could progress the capability of the position calculating and the force data transmitting. The haptic system is composed of the 6DOF force display device, the high-speed controller, HIR library for 3D graphic deformation algorithm and the haptic rendering algorithm. The developed system will be used on constructing the dynamical virtual environment. We demonstrate the relevance of this approach for the real-time simulating deformations of elastic objects. To show the efficiency of our system, we programmed the simulation of force reflecting. As the result of experiment, we found that it has high stability and easy to control for deformable object than some other systems.

Legal Culture and Commercial Arbitration in the United States and Japan

  • In this paper, a conceptual model of legal culture based on Ehrlich's "living law" theory and Cole's social-cultural explanation can explain the low utilization rates of arbitration of Japan and the high utilization rates of arbitration in the United States, simultaneously. This model highlights the clash between social norms and legal provisions in Japan. Japan has developed a two-tiered system of dispute resolution. At the official level, Japanese people accept the legal system imposed by the outside world. But, at a deeper level, they utilize diverse forms of informal dispute resolution mechanisms, such as reconcilement and conciliation, reflecting their own social norms. In contrast, there is no conflict between social norms and legal provisions in United States. This study may show that there are distinctions between American-style arbitration and Japanese-style arbitration, reflecting their own respective social norms. The question of reconciliation between the American style of arbitration and the Japanese style of arbitration can be resolved by an international arbitrator.

  • This paper proposes an interfaces control system to drive a ultrasonic motors(USMs). To touch surfaces and objects created within a virtua environment, the 3 DOF force-reflecting interfaces provides force feedback to users, so to feel touching real things. To effectively display the mechanical impedance of the human hand we need a device with specific characteristics, such as low inertia almost zero friction and very high stiffness. As an actuator for direct drive method, the USMs have many good advantages satisfied these conditions over conventional servo motors. To estimate capability of this interface, we did an experiment. The device works very well, as user are able to detect the edge of the wall and the stiffness of the button.

  • This paper presents a new energy function reflecting the damping effect in multi-machine power systems. The Lyapunov direct method provides precise and rigorous theoretical backgrounds for stability analysis of nonlinear systems. Incorporating damping effects into accurate estimates of the domain of attraction, which is a minor but crucial point, has been attempted with long history to yield partial success for single machine systems. In this paper, the damping-reflected energy function presented in the previous work has been generalized for application to multi-machine systems. The generalized energy function is tested for the WSCC 9-bus system to show the semi-negativeness of its time derivative.

  • In teleoperation field robotic system such as hydraulically actuated robotic excavator, the maneuverability and convenience is the most important part in the operation of robotic excavator. Particularly the force information is important in dealing with digging and leveling operation in the teleoperated excavator. Excavators are also subject to a wide variation of soil-tool interaction forces. This paper presents a new force reflecting joystick in a velocity-force type bilateral teleoperation system. The master system is electrical joystick and the slave system is hydraulically actuated cylinder with linear position sensor.   • Competitive bidding in construction is concerned with contractors making strategic decisions in respect of determination of bid price if contractors opt to bid. This study presents a strategy model for deciding optimum tender price with reflecting appropriate profit in competitive bidding using Bayesian regression analysis (BRA). The purpose of the developed model is to help contractors to secure suitable profitability by predicting the actual profit based on key variables. They may affect construction cost at bidding phase, ultimately which help contractors to secure high quality output. The model was tested empirically by application to a bidding dataset collected from a large South Korea contractor. BRA allows contractors to estimate more accurate actual profit by reflecting not only objective information but also subjective experiences and judgments. Consequently, the model can contribute to improvement of decision-making process for setting an optimum tender price.

  • In this paper, we present the description and results of experimental study of the sound power measurements based on International Standards ISO 3741 and 3745. The sound power emitted by a calibrated reference sound source was measured in a reverberation room and a free field over a reflecting plane, using the precision methods of International Standards ISO 3741 direct method and ISO 3745, respectively. The sound power measurements carried out in this study give accurate estimation and also show that both methods for determining the sound power levels of a sound source in a reverberation room and a free field over a reflecting plane, according to the ISO 3741 and 3745, respectively, have proved equally good.
