  • The current work, present dynamic analysis of the FG-sandwich plate seated on elastic foundation with various kinds of support using refined shear deformation theory. The present analytical model is simplified which the unknowns number are reduced. The zero-shear stresses at the free surfaces of the FG-sandwich plate are ensured without introducing any correction factors. The four equations of motion are determined via Hamilton's principle and solved by Galerkin's approach for FG-sandwich plate with three kinds of the support. The proposed analytical model is verified by comparing the results with those obtained by other theories existing in the literature. The parametric studies are presented to detect the various parameters influencing the fundamental frequencies of the symmetric and non-symmetric FG-sandwich plate with various boundary conditions.

  • In this paper, a new nonlocal trigonometric shear deformation theory is proposed for thermal buckling response of nanosize functionally graded (FG) nano-plates resting on two-parameter elastic foundation under various types of thermal environments. This theory uses for the first time, undetermined integral variables and it contains only four unknowns, that is even less than the first shear deformation theory (FSDT). It is considered that the FG nano-plate is exposed to uniform, linear and sinusoidal temperature rises. Mori-Tanaka model is utilized to define the gradually variation of material properties along the plate thickness. Nonlocal elasticity theory of Eringen is employed to capture the size influences. Through the stationary potential energy the governing equations are derived for a refined nonlocal four-variable shear deformation plate theory and then solved analytically. A variety of examples is proposed to demonstrate the importance of elastic foundation parameters, various temperature fields, nonlocality, material composition, aspect and side-to-thickness ratios on critical stability temperatures of FG nano-plate.

  • Manually mapping fractures in construction stone mines is challenging, time-consuming, and hazardous. In this method, there is no physical access to all points. In contrast, digital image processing offers a safe, cost-effective, and fast alternative, with the capability to map all joints. In this study, two methods of detecting the trace of discontinuities using image processing in construction stone mines are presented. To achieve this, we employ two modified Hough transform algorithms and the degree of neighborhood technique. Initially, we introduced a method for selecting the best edge detector and smoothing algorithms. Subsequently, the Canny detector and median smoother were identified as the most efficient tools. To trace discontinuities using the mentioned methods, common preprocessing steps were initially applied to the image. Following this, each of the two algorithms followed a distinct approach. The Hough transform algorithm was first applied to the image, and the traces were represented through line drawings. Subsequently, the Hough transform results were refined using fuzzy clustering and reduced clustering algorithms, along with a novel algorithm known as the farthest points' algorithm. Additionally, we developed another algorithm, the degree of neighborhood, tailored for detecting discontinuity traces in construction stones. After completing the common preprocessing steps, the thinning operation was performed on the target image, and the degree of neighborhood for lineament pixels was determined. Subsequently, short lines were removed, and the discontinuities were determined based on the degree of neighborhood. In the final step, we connected lines that were previously separated using the method to be described. The comparison of results demonstrates that image processing is a suitable tool for identifying rock mass discontinuity traces. Finally, a comparison of two images from different construction stone mines presented at the end of this study reveals that in images with fewer traces of discontinuities and a softer texture, both algorithms effectively detect the discontinuity traces.

  • Concrete pipes are considered important structures playing integral role in spread of cities besides transportation of gas as well as oil for far distances. Further, concrete structures under seismic load, show behaviors which require to be investigated and improved. Therefore, present research concerns dynamic stress and strain alongside deflection assessment of a concrete pipe carrying water-based nanofluid subjected to seismic loads. This pipe placed in soil is modeled through spring as well as damper. Navier-Stokes equation is utilized in order to gain force created via fluid and, moreover, mixture rule is applied to regard the influences related to nanoparticles. So as to model the structure mathematically, higher order refined shear deformation theory is exercised and with respect to energy method, the motion equations are obtained eventually. The obtained motion equations will be solved with Galerkin and Newmark procedures and consequently, the concrete pipe's dynamic stress, strain as well as deflection can be evaluated. Further, various parameters containing volume percent of nanoparticles, internal fluid, soil foundation, damping and length to diameter proportion of the pipe and their influences upon dynamic stress and strain besides displacement will be analyzed. According to conclusions, increase in volume percent of nanoparticles leads to decrease in dynamic stress, strain as well as displacement of structure.

  • Emergy is a measure of the processes required to produce something expressed in units of the same energy form. Emergy based indices can provide insights into the thermodynamic efficiency of the process, the quality of its output, and the interaction between the process and its surrounding environment. However, in an industrial system, the inputs are mostly nonrenewable, renewable energy source is nearly zero, ultimate purpose is pursuit of profits in economic activity. In study, we present two indices based on emergy - EEE(Ecological Economic Efficiency) and ERI(Environmental Responsibility Index). The EEE is taken into account real value of product in market economy. The ERI is shown to be a function of the net yield of the economy, its ‘load’ on the environment and ecological economic efficiency. Manufacturing industry of Korea produced the 30% of total GDP in 2001. We applied these indices to manufacturing industry for environmental management and further sustainable industry. As a results, the highest ERI is 0.34 in recycling industries, the lowest ERI is 0.01 in coke, refined petroleum products which is dominated by ELR. The higher ERI, the more friendly to environment. The suggested indices help us understand relative contributions of various alternatives in company's production and consumption activity, and provide a tool of decision-making for the rearrangement of future industries. Furthermore, they contribute to environmental friendly operation and consumption.

  • In this investigation, study of the bending response of functionally graded (FG) porous plates is presented using a cubic shear deformation theory. The properties of the FG-plate vary according to a power-law distribution which is modified to approximate material characteristics for considering the effect of porosities. The equilibrium equations are derived by using the principle of virtual work and solved by using Navier's procedure. Various numerical results are discussed to demonstrate the influence of the variation of the power index, the porosity parameter and the geometric ratios on the bending response of FG porous plates.

  • To develop natural antioxidant from spices and control thermal oxidation of edible soybean oil, the available antioxidative compounds of various spices were extracted with edible soybean oil. The storage stability of the oil mixed with purified sardine oil and soybean oil containing that extracts at $37^{\circ}C$ were investigated. Furthermore the antioxidative activity of petroleum ether soluble fractions(PESF) obtained from rosemary on the thermal oxidation of edible soybean oil during heating at $180^{\circ}C$ were also investigated. By mixing with refined sardine oil and soybean oil extracts of rosemary, sage of herb spices and mace of seed spices, the oxidative stabilities were remarkably increased. The thermal oxidation of edible soybean oil was also supressed by the addition of 1.0%(w/w) of PESF obtained from rosemary. Rosemary extract exhibited higher antioxidative activity on thermal oxidation of edible soybean oil than butylated hydroxytoluene.

  • Biostratigraphic and paleoenvironmental analyses are carried out on cutting samples from the Dolgorae wells drilled in the Ulleung basin. The clayey, silty, and sandy sediments of the wells yield various microfossil assemblages of relatively good preservation, among which five fossil groups are reported; a total of 97 foraminiferal species of 66 genera, 19 nannofossil species of 12 genera, 86 ostracod species of 41 genera, 107 diatom species of 44 genera, and 124 dinoflagellate cysts species of 45 genera. Based on microfossils the geologic ages of the Dolgorae wells are dated to be from late Early Miocene to Early Pleistocene. Several biohorizons are defined in Neogene successions by the LOD (Last Ocurrence Datum) and FOD (First Ocurrence Datum) of marker species including G. truncatulinoides (LOD: 1.9 Ma) of foraminifera; C. macintyeri (LOD: 1.64-1.60), G. oceanica (FOD: 1.65 Ma), G. caribbeanica (1.72 Ma), D. brouweri (LOD: 2 Ma), R. pseudoumbilica (LOD: 3.66 Ma), P. lacunosa (FOD: 4.2 Ma) of nannofossils; S. ellipsoideus (LOD: 4 Ma), S. palcacantha (LOD: 10.2), C. giusepei (LOD: 14 Ma) of dinocysts; D. seminae v. fossilis (FOD: 3.7 Ma), T. antiqua (LOD: 1.7 Ma), T. convexa (LOD: 2.4 Ma), N. kamtschatica (LOD: 2.58 Ma), T. oestrupii(FOD: 5.1 Ma) of diatoms. Abundance patterns of microfossils throughout the wells reflect changes in paleoenvironmental and sedimentological settings of the basin in relation to sea-level variations. According to these data the large-cycle and small-cycle changes of transgression and regression phases are observed in terrestrial to marine sediments. This high-resolution sequence biostratigraphy established by various fossil groups enabled more reliable correlation between strata and refined interpretation on deposition systems of the basin. It also proved to provide fundamental and precise informations regarding stratigraphic correlation, tectonic events, basin, and depositional history for hydrocarbon explorations, especially in collaboration with seismic-stratigrahic analyses.

  • Since Korea has excellent port infrastructure and competitive petrochemical complexes, there is plenty of potential for creating an oil hub in Northeast Asia. In particular, Ship-to-Ship (STS), which creates high added values, contributes greatly to the national economy. In this study, the liquid cargo volumes of chemical industrial products, refined petroleum products, and crude oil were analyzed at the national and regional (Busan, Ulsan, and Yeosu/Gwangyang) levels. Additionally, a Granger causality analysis was performed between imports, exports, and transshipments, in pairs. ADF, PP, and KPSS were analyzed for the unit root test. In addition, the VAR model and expanded VAR model suggested by Toda and Yamamoto were used for further analyses. Findings revealed a difference in Granger causality depending on the region or cargo type. These findings suggest that policies and incentive schemes for ports need to be differentiated according to the region and cargo types. In addition, the different patterns in the relationship between transshipments and import-export petrochemical cargoes should be considered.
