This paper deals with a behavior based decentralized control strategy for UAV swarming utilizing the artificial potential functions and the sliding mode control technique. Individual interactions for swarming behavior are modeled using the artificial potential functions. The motion of individual UAV is directed toward the negative gradient of the combined potential. For tracking the reference trajectory of UAV swarming, a swarming center is considered as the object of control. The sliding-mode control technique is adopted to make the proposed swarm control strategy robust with respect to the system uncertainties and the varying mission environment. Numerical simulation is performed to verify the performance of the proposed controller.

TDC(Time Delay Control) deals with the time-varying system parameters, unknown dynamics and unexpected disturbances using time delay. TDC can be divided into two separate parts: an auxiliary controller and a servo controller. The two controllers can be designed independently. The auxiliary controller is used to reduce sensitivity to parameter variations, nonlinear effects, and other disturbances. The servo controller is to reduce the error between the desired command and output. We propose the model-following time delay controller with modified error feedback controller. This was applied to follow the desired reference model for the uncertain time-varying overhead crane. The model generates the damped-out swinging motion trajectory to suppress the swinging motion caused by the acceleration and the deceleration of crane transportation. The control performance was evaluated through simulations. The theoretical results indicate that this control method shows excellent performance to an overhead crane with the uncertain time-varying parameters.

This paper proposes tip position control system which uses a visual marker to determine the tip position of a robot manipulator. The main idea of this paper is to introduce visual marker for the tracking control of a robot manipulator. Existing researches utilize stationary markers to get pattern information from them. Unlike existing researches, we introduce visual markers to get the coordinates of them in addition to their pattern information. Markers need not be stationary and the extracted coordinate of markers are used as a reference trajectory for the tracking control of a robot manipulator. To build the proposed control scheme, we first obtain intrinsic parameters through camera calibration and evaluate their validity. Secondly, we present a procedure to obtain the relative coordinate of a visual marker with respect to a camera. Thirdly, we derive the equation for the kinematics of the SCORBOTER 4pc manipulator which we use for control of manipulator. Also, we provide a flow diagram of entire visual marker tracking system. The feasibility of the proposed scheme will be demonstrated through real experiments.

In this paper, we have described a development of the external instrumentation system of a fighter aircraft for flight test. The external instrumentation system consists of the instrumentation pod and the image pod. The instrumentation pod measures a flight data(attitude, velocity, altitude, etc) of the fighter aircraft by using GPS/AHRS sensor. The image pod takes high-speed images for the separation trajectory of a smart bomb with 2 high-speed cameras and video signal for it with one general camera. We have verified the performance of the external instrumentation system through the ground test, the environment test and the flight test.

This paper represent the variable structure adaptive mode control technique which is new approach to implement the robust control of industrial robot manipulator with external disturbances and parameter uncertainties. Sliding mode control is a well-known technique for robust control of uncertain nonlinear systems. The robustness of sliding model controllers can be shown in contiuous time, but digital implementation may not preserve robustness properties because the sampling process limits the existence of a true sliding mode. the sampling process often forces the trajectory to oscillate in the neighborhood of the sliding surface. Adaptive control technique is particularly well-suited to robot manipulators where dynamic model is highly complex and may contain unknown parameters. Adaptive control algorithm is designed by using the principle of the model reference adaptive control method based upon the hyperstability theory. The proposed control scheme has a simple sturcture is computationally fast and does not require knowledge of the complex dynamic model or the parameter values of the manipulator or the payload. Simulation results show that the proposed method not only improves the performance of the system but also reduces the chattering problem of sliding mode control, Consequently, it is expected that the new adaptive sliding mode control algorithm will be suited for various practical applications of industrial robot control system.

This paper proposes a hybrid control method of using impedance control and the computed-torque control for biped robot locomotion. Computed torque control is used for supporting (constrained) leg. For the free leg, the impedance control is used, where different values of impedance parameters are used depending on the gait phase of the biped robot. To reduce the magnitude of an impact and guarantee a stable footing when a foot contacts with the ground, this paper proposes to increase the damping of the leg drastically and to modify the reference trajectory of the leg. Computer simulations with a 3 -dof environment model for which a combination of a nonlinear and a linear compliant models is used, show that the proposed controller is superior to the computed-torque controllers in reducing impacts and stabilizing the footing.

An integrated system composed of guidance, navigation and control (GNC) system for autonomous proximity operations and the docking of two spacecraft was developed. The position maneuvers were determined through the integration of the state-dependent Riccati equation formulated from nonlinear relative motion dynamics and relative navigation using rendezvous laser vision (Lidar) and a vision sensor system. In the vision sensor system, a switch between sensors was made along the approach phase in order to provide continuously effective navigation. As an extension of the rendezvous laser vision system, an automated terminal guidance scheme based on the Clohessy-Wiltshire state transition matrix was used to formulate a "V-bar hopping approach" reference trajectory. A proximity operations strategy was then adapted from the approach strategy used with the automated transfer vehicle. The attitude maneuvers, determined from a linear quadratic Gaussian-type control including quaternion based attitude estimation using star trackers or a vision sensor system, provided precise attitude control and robustness under uncertainties in the moments of inertia and external disturbances. These functions were then integrated into an autonomous GNC system that can perform proximity operations and meet all conditions for successful docking. A six-degree of freedom simulation was used to demonstrate the effectiveness of the integrated system.
We revised the OTFTOOL which was developed in Five College Radio Astronomy Observatory (FCRAO) for the On-The-Fly (OTF) observation. Besides the improvement of data resampling function of conventional OTFTOOL, we added a new SELF referencing mode and data pre-reduction function. Since OTF observation data have a large redundancy, we can choose and use only good quality samples excluding bad samples. Sorting out the bad samples is based on the floating level, rms level, antenna trajectory, elevation, $T_{sys}$, and number of samples. And, spikes are also removed. Referencing method can be chosen between CLASSICAL mode in which the references are taken from the OFFs observation and ELLIPSOIDAL mode in which the references are taken from the inner source free region (this is named as SELF reference). Baseline is subtracted with the source free channel windows and the baseline order chosen by the user. Passing through these procedures, the raw OTF data will be an FITS datacube. The revised-OTFTOOL maximizes the advantages of OTF observation by sorting out the bad samples in the earliest stage. And the new self-referencing method, the ELLIPSOIDAL mode, is very powerful to reduce the data. Moreover since it is possible to see the datacube at once without moving them into other data reduction programs, it is very useful and convenient to check whether the data resampling works well or not. We expect that the revised-OTFTOOL can be applied to the facilities of the OTF observation like SRAO, NRAO, and FCRAO.

This paper deals with smooth path generation using B-spline for fixed-wing unmanned aerial vehicles manuevering in 2D environment. Hexagonal cell representation is employed to model the 2D environment, which features increased connectivity among cells over square cell representation. Subsequently, hexagonal cell representation enables smoother path generation based on a discrete sequence of path from the path planner. In addition, we present an on-line path smoothing algorithm incorporating B-spline path templates. The path templates are computed off-line by taking into account all possible path sequences within finite horizon. During on-line implementation, the B-spline curves from the templates are stitched together repeatedly to come up with a reference trajectory for UAVs. This method is an effective way of generating smooth path with reduced on-line computation requirement, hence it can be implemented on a small low-cost autopilot that has limited computational resources.

Optical disk drive has excellent advantage of random accessibility of which performance is measured by access time. However, due to the increased rotational velocity of the disk and constraints of mechanical structure, two-stage seek algorithm which executes coarse and fine seeks sequentially has been adopted in most commercial optical disk drives. Although the laser spot is moved to a target track by a single seek operation, the limited operation range of the fine actuator restricts the application of the fine seek algorithm below a few hundreds of tracks. Especially, excessive movement of the objective lens causes a failure in generation of track-cross pulse and results in an unstable seek operation. In this paper, a new control algorithm for extending the fine seek range is proposed with an appropriate control structure. The coarse actuator is utilized to reduce the misalignment between the objective lens and the laser beam axis, and the fine actuator is controlled to follow the reference velocity trajectory. The proposed algorithm is applied to a CD-ROM drive to show its feasibility and some experimental results are presented.
