  • In this contribution, we developed and improved an existing GF (Galois field) dividing algorithm by suggesting a novel architecture for a finite field divider, which is frequently required for the error correction applications and the security-related applications such as the Reed-Solomon code, elliptic curve encryption/ decryption, is proposed. We utilized the VHDL language to verify the design methodology, and implemented the architecture on an FPGA chip. We suggested the n-bit lookup table method to obtain the throughput of 2m/n cycles, where m is the order of the division polynomial and n is the number of the most significant lookup-bits. By doing this, we extracted the advantages in achieving both high-throughput and less cost of the gate areaon the chip. A pilot FPGA chip was implemented with the case of m=4, n=2. We successfully utilized the Altera's EP20K30ETC144-1 to exhibit the maximum operating clock frequency of 77 MHz.

  • Foreign body in the trachea & bronchus is considered as one of the frequently observed accidental cases in the field of E.N.T. and many cases & analysis of them are reported by many authors. We have, recently, experienced three cases of the foreign bodies in the trachea & bronchus and removed successfully through bronchoscopy under general anesthesia. Case A : a kind of plastic reed (2.2CM$\times$0.8CM$\times$0.8CM) was removed from the carina of trachea of a 7 year old female. Case B: a nail (4.9CM$\times$0.3CM$\times$0.3CM) was removed from the right main bronchus of a 2 year old male. Case C : a kind of plastic reed (2.0CM$\times$0.8CM$\times$0.8CM) was removed from the right main bronchus of a 7 year old female.

  • In this paper the decoder of nonbinary code satisfying R>1/t has been designed and constructed, where R is the code rate and t is the error correcting capability. In order to design the error trapping decoder, the concept of covering monomial is used and them the decoder system using the (15, 11) Reed-Solomon code is implemented. Without Galois Fiedl multiplication and division circuits, the decoder system is simply constructed. In the decoding process, it takes 60clocks to decode one code word. Two symbol errors and eight binary burst errors are simultaneously corrected. This coding system is shown to be efficient when the channel error probability is approximately from $5{\times}10^-4$~$5{\times}10^-5$.

  • In lotic wetlands, runner reed (Phragmites japonicus) plays a role as a pioneer, which helps other plant species to settle by making dense roots trapping floating-sediments. In lentic wetlands, on the other hand, P. japonicus could play a role as an invader threatening biodiversity by forming tall and dense stands. To conserve an abandoned paddy terrace in mountainous areas, a habitat of an endangered dragonfly species (Nannophya pygmaea), from the monotypic-occupation by P. japonicus, we applied three kinds of treatment: (1) hand-clipping in 2009, (2) mechanical excavating in 2012, and (3) planting of alternative vegetational unit in 2012. We have monitored vegetation changes in the wetland in 2008~2012 and 2017. Vegetation cover of P. japonicus sharply decreased from 43% in 2011 to 16% in 2012 by the mechanical excavation. After 5 years from applying the treatment, Schoenoplectiella mucronata that was utilized in the planting became the predominant species instead of P. japonicus and the number of wetland plant species increased from 16 to 25 with the shift in species composition. This study showed the utility of three control methods of P. japonicas in a lentic wetland.

  • Finite field arithmetic logic is central in the implementation of Reed-Solomon coders and in some cryptographic algorithms. There is a need for good multiplication and basis conversion algorithms. In this paper, a new multiplication circuit is developed for the finite field GF($2^m$) based on a conventional basis. It is composed of AND gates and EXCLUSIVE-OR gates and is regular, simple, expandable and therefore, naturally suitable for VLSI implementations.

  • COMS(Communication, Ocean and Meteorological Satellite), the first Korean geostationary meteorological satellite, provides free meteorological information through HRIT/LRIT(High/Low Rate Information Transmission) service. This work presents the development of data receiver circuit that is essential to the implementation of a low-cost meteorological information receiver system. The data receiver circuit processes the data units according to the specification of physical layer and data link layer of HRIT/LRIT service. For this purpose, the circuit consists of a Viterbi decoder, a sync. word detector, a derandomizer, a Reed-Solomon decoder and so on. The circuit also supports PCI express interface to pass the information data on to the host PC. The circuit was implemented on an FPGA(field programmable gate array) and its function was verified through simulations and hardware implementation.

  • This study is aimed to provide the preliminary data for conservation and management of wintering site for Anser fabalis population in Cheongna Area, Incheon Free Economic Zone, Korea through analyzing the relationship between the biotop structure of its wintering site and behavior characteristics. The main types (size and ratio) of the biotope in Cheongna Area, Incheon Free Economic Zone are reed wetlands ($6,093,762m^2$, 47.8%), rice fields without rice straw ($2,927,916m^2$, 23.0%), and rice fields with rice straw ($1,915,655m^2$, 15.0%). According to the survey carried on 13th Feb., 2013, total 33 species and 6, 535 individual birds were observed and among of them, the dominant bird was Anser fabalis showing 5,128 indiviuals, 78% of total population. As the result of analyzing the migratory route of Anser fabalis, the bird moved from roosting site to foraging site before and after sunrise and from feeding site to roosting site before and after sunset. According to the analysis of interrelation between habitat characteristics and biotope types of the bird, population density was the highest in reed wetlands among habitat types and individual appearance was the highest in water-filled rice field melting ice. The bird ate the roots and bulb of hydrophytes in reed wetlands and showed various behaviors like eating dropped grains, resting and sleeping in water-filled rice fields and eating dropped grains and resting in rice fields with and without rice straw. It is shown that the number of Anser fabalis appearing in rice fields is depended on the presence of dropped grains than types of rice field.

  • Recently, Finite field is applied the cryptography in the modern multimedia communication. Especially, block codes such as Elliptic Curve Cryptosystem and Reed-Solomon code among the error correcting codes are defined with finite field. Also, finite field algorithm is conducting the research actively because many kind of application parts need the real time operating ability therefore the exclusive hardware have been implementing. In this paper, we proposed the inverse finite field algorithm over GF($2^8$) using finite composite field and implemented in a hardware, and then compare this hardware with the currently used 'Itoh and Tsujii' hardware in respect to structure, area and computation time. Furthermore, this hardware was inserted into the AES SubBytes block and implemented on FPGA emulator board to confirm that the superiority of the proposed algorithm through the performance evaluation.

  • Nine plant species were selected through vegetation survey at three military shooting ranges at northern Gyeonggi Province. Plants were germinated in normal soil and three seedlings were transplanted to a bottom sealed pot containing sandy loam soils contaminated with either RDX (291 mg/kg) or TNT (207 mg/kg). Planted, blank (without plant), and control (without explosive compound) pots were grown in triplicate at a green house for 134 days. During cultivation, transplanted plants exhibited chlorosis and necrosis in flower and leaf by explosive toxicity and stress. Only three plants, Wild soybean, Amur silver grass, Reed canary grass, survived in TNT treated pot, while seven plant species except for field penny cress and jimson weed, thrived in RDX treated pot. Appreciable amount of TNT (61.6~241.2 mg/g-D.W.) was detected only in plant roots. Up to 763.3 mg/g-D.W. along with 4-amino-2,6-dinitrotoluene, an intermediate of TNT, accumulated in the root of wild soybean. In addition, azoxy compounds, abiotic intermediates of TNT, were detected in TNT treated soils. RDX absorbed average 1,839.95 mg/kg in shoot and 204.83 mg/kg in root. Most of TNT in plant was accumulated in underground part whereas RDX was localized in aerial part. Material balance calculation showed that more than 95% of the initial TNT was removed in the planted pots whereas only 60% was removed in the blank pot. The amount of RDX removed from soil was in the order of Amur Silver Grass (51%) > Chickweed (43%) > Evening primrose (38%). Based on the results of pot cultures, Amur silver grass and Reed canary grass are selected as tolerant remedial plants for explosive toxicity.

  • The Shihwa wetland, a newly developed constructed wetland prototype in Korea with an area of approximately 104 ha, was established to improve the water quality severely polluted inflow streams into Lake Shihwa. Because this wetland could play a role as an ecological park in addition to improving the water quality, an ecological impact of the Shihwa constructed wetland has been a national concern. This paper focused on reporting the survey results for fauna among the entire investigation results for 3 years. A total of 129 terrestrial insect species have been observed from August 2001 to June 2002. Among them, Ischnura asiatica (Brauer) (order Odonata), Scymnus species (order Coleoptera) and Orthopteran species were frequently found in the reed bushes. A total of 77 bird species were recorded in a seasonal count, the maximum number of species was 34 in winter and the maximum number of individuals was 4,599 in summer. For the freshwater fish, only 4 species were found in 2000, however in 2001 and 2002, 12 species and 459 individuals were collected at four survey points. Among these 12 species, the dominant species were Mugil cephalus(36%), followed by Carassius auratus (25%) and Rhinogobius brunneus (22%). Meanwhile,12 individuals of Oryzias latipes were observed nearby, mostly downstream of the wetland. For the Herpetofauna at four survey areas, 3 species of amphibians and 3 species of reptiles were recorded. Because of remaining salinity in the soil of the Shiwha constructed wetland, Herpetofauna inflow to the wetland was scanty and mainly inhabited the upstream area. A total of 8 mammal species were recorded. Small-sized species were the striped field mouse, the Ussurian harvest-mouse, the Manchurian reed vole and the brown rat. Middle- and large-sized species were Korean water-deer, Korean raccoon dogs, Korean yellow weasels and feral cats.
