  • In this paper, we employ the adaptive comb filtering for effective noise reduction in mobile communication environment. Adaptive comb filtering is a well- known method for noise reduction, but requires the correct pitch period and must be applied just in voiced speech frames. To satisfy these requirements we use two kinds of information extracted from speech packets, one of which is the pitch period information measured precisely by a speech coder and the other is the frame rate information related to a decision on speech or silence frame. Experiments on speech recognition system confirm the efficiency of this method. Feature parameters employing this method give superior performance in noise environment to those extracted directly from output speech.

  • In this study, evaluation was carried out for reduction method of floor impact noise through field test and the effective methods for heavy impact noise were proposed. As a field test, impact noise reduction materials such as EPP, EEPS, EVA, PE and so on, did not satisfied the recommandation value at the condition of 150mm thickness concrete slab. The evaluation results for those materials by 'inverse A curve' showed $53\sim55dB$ at heavy impact noise and $53\sim58dB$ at light impact noise. But, two methods proposed by authors were evaluated $47\sim50dB$ at heavy Impact noise and $54\sim58dB$ at light Impact noise on the similar concrete slab thickness.

  • In this paper, we propose an efficient noise reduction algorithm for digital hologram during acquisition and transmission. The proposed algorithm segment a digital hologram with object region and background region after DCT. Then, we adopt a histogram transition method for object region and zero-value change method for background region. The experimental results show that our algorithm has beuer performance than a natural image denoising algorithm.

  • We get one theorem which shows existence of solutions for one-dimensional jumping problem involving p-Laplacian and Dirichlet boundary condition. This theorem is that there exists at least one solution when nonlinearities crossing finite number of eigenvalues, exactly one solutions and no solution depending on the source term. We obtain these results by the eigenvalues and the corresponding normalized eigenfunctions of the p-Laplacian eigenvalue problem when 1 < p < ${\infty}$, variational reduction method and Leray-Schauder degree theory when $2{\leq}$ p < ${\infty}$.

  • This study deals with a method based on the modified bivariate gamma function for reconstructions of dynamic behavior of delaminated composite plates subjected to impact loads. The proposed bivariate gamma function is associated with micro-genetic algorithms, which is capable of solving inverse problems to determine the stiffness reduction associated with delamination. From computing the unknown parameters, it is possible for the entire dynamic response data to develop a prediction model of the dynamic response through a regression analysis based on the measurement data. The validity of the proposed method was verified by comparing with results employing a higher-order finite element model. Parametric results revealed that the proposed method can reconstruct dynamic responses and the stiffness reduction of delaminated composite plates can be investigated for different measurements and loading locations.

  • In this study, response surface method (RSM) was used in modeling and multi-objective optimization of the parameters of AA5052-H32 in incremental sheet forming (ISF). The goals of optimization were the maximum forming angle, minimum thickness reduction, and minimum surface roughness, with varying values in response to changes in production process parameters, such as tool diameter, tool spindle speed, step depth, and tool feed rate. A Box-Behnken experimental design (BBD) was used to develop an RSM model for modeling the variations in the forming angle, thickness reduction, and surface roughness in response to variations in process parameters. Subsequently, the RSM model was used as the fitness function for multi-objective optimization of the ISF process based on experimental design. The results showed that RSM can be effectively used to control the forming angle, thickness reduction, and surface roughness.

  • This study proposes a novel low-complexity algorithm for computing inverse fast Fourier transform (IFFT)/fast Fourier transform (FFT) operations in binary phase shift keying-modulated orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) communication systems without requiring any twiddle factor multiplications. The peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) reduction capacity of an efficient PAPR reduction technique, that is, H-SLM method, is evaluated using the proposed IFFT algorithm without any complex multiplications, and the impact of oversampling factor for the accurate calculation of PAPR is analyzed. The power spectral density of an OFDM signal generated using the proposed multiplierless IFFT algorithm is also examined. Moreover, the bit-error-rate performance of the H-SLM technique with the proposed IFFT/FFT algorithm is compared with the classical methods. Simulation results show that the proposed IFFT/FFT algorithm used in the H-SLM method requires no complex multiplications, thereby minimizing power consumption as well as the area of IFFT/FFT processors used in OFDM communication systems.

  • In order to remove the noise contained in recorded analog video, it is important to recognize the real characteristics and strength of the noise. This paper presents an efficient training-based noise reduction method for recorded analog video after analyzing the noise characteristics of analog video captured in a real broadcasting system. First we show that there is non-negligible noise correlation in recorded analog video and describe the limitations of the traditional noise estimation and reduction methods based on additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) model. In addition, we show that auto-regressive (AR) model considering noise correlation can be successfully utilized to estimate and synthesize the noise contained in the recorded analog video, and the estimated AR parameters are utilized in the training-based noise reduction scheme to reduce the video noise. Experiment results show that the proposed method can be efficiently applied for noise reduction of recorded analog video with non-negligible noise correlation.

  • This paper focuses on building a generalized mood classification model with many mood classes instead of a personalized one with few mood classes. Two methods are adopted to improve the performance of mood classification. The one of them is feature reduction based on standard deviation of feature values, which is designed to solve the problem of lowered performance when all 391 features provided by MIR toolbox used to extract features of music. The experiments show that the feature reduction methods suggested in this paper have better performance than that of the conventional dimension reduction methods, R-Square and PCA. As performance improvement by feature reduction only is subject to limit, modular neural network is used as another method to improve the performance. The experiments show that the method also improves performance effectively.

  • The prominent malar region has been recognized a sign of youth and beauty in caucasian who generally have a dolichocephalic and long face. But in the orients, especially Koreans who generally have a mesocephalic or brachycephalic face, it is considered an agressive, unesthetic facial appearance. So many patients require the shaving of prominent malar eminence and arch, and many methods of its reduction have been devised. For the exposure of malar complex, infraorbital skin incision, intraoral approach, preauricular approach, supraauricular scalp incision, and coronal approach have been used. And for the reduction of bony structure, direct shaving, contouring and repositioning of the malar complex after extirpation, and medially fracture of zygomatic arch have been used with its own merits. We performed the reduction malarplasty through intraoral approach. After two parallel oeteotomy at medial part of the zygomatic bone, the midsegment is removed. The posterior arch of zygoma was bended or green stick fractured. When more correction was required, the posterior arch was fractured medially through the step incision at skin. This method has a some advantages. Compared with the method for extirpation of malar complex, the infection rate is diminished, the resorption is small because of no free bone graft. And cheek drooping is prevented. Compared with the method of coronal approach, the surgical trauma is minimal. Now we report some cases of reduction malarplasty performed through intraoral approach and disscus the surgical technique and results.
