  • Study attempts to evaluate the environmental cost and benefit for management of particulate matters of Donghae harbor in Gangwondo. The level of fine dust suspended in the vicinity of the harbor was quite high, exceeding the national standard ($100{\mu}g/m^3$) depending on the places. The test field harbor deals with lots of limestone and coal, so that fine particulates could be generated while loading it and unloading. It was estimated that the direct handling of cargos might produce 12 tons of PM10(Particulate Matters of $10{\mu}m$) a year. In addition, heavy vehicles for transportation of various cargos including raw materials emit huge amount of diesel soots and cause to redispersion of road dust. The local government spends more than 2 billion won every year, and it contributes to reduce the atmospheric dust. According to the prediction of cost to benefit, it will present the effectiveness in 720 % maximum and at least 240 %.

  • A method of forming agar microcapsule with fibroin coating was developed in this report. The capsules were prepared from a W/O emulsion of hot agar in mineral oil and were subsequently coated by fibroin. The capsules were harvested as precipitated aggregates, which can be dispersed in an aqueous media. The diameter of the microcapsule was less than $10{\mu}m$ by microscopic observation and 90% of them were between $1.32{\mu}m\;and\;6.0{\mu}m$. The structure of the aggregates and their dispersed microspheres were investigated by scanning electron microscope. Confocal microscopy was applied to visualize the core-shell structure of the agar microcapsule with fibroin coating. Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) measured their composition to be agar 51.2%, fibroin 13.8%, Span 80 1.4% by weight.

  • In this study, we investigated the pretreatment technologies of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) which is a problem as the semiconductor and display industry develops recently. The conventional concentrator used in the direct combustion system, is easily contaminated by the exhaust gas in the manufacturing process of the display, resulting in the low treatment efficiency of generated VOCs. Physical/Chemical analyses of the exhaust gas showed high boiling point and viscosity in addition to a large amount of molecular weight alcohols and oil components. In this study, we tried to treat degrading materials by using the heat exchanger in a pretreatment facility and some materials degrading the concentrator were condensed more than 90%. In addition, it was also confirmed that an auxiliary device of the grease filter could remove the redispersion polymer oil from the heat exchanger.
