The experiment was conducted to investigate the agricultural utility of macro-porous calcium-silicate rnineral(CellCaSi) as topsoil mixture, as well as to estimate as a soil conditioner. The bulk density of CellCaSi which is consisted of various particle sizes ranging from 1mm to 3.35mm was about $0.42g/cm^3$, and its maximum porosity was approximately 81.4%. We also investigate gerrnination rates for Cabbage and Lettuce to obtain the suitable mixing ratios of CellCaSi with topsoil. Among 4 different mixing ratios, the germination rates of ropsoil mixed with 10% of CellCaSi were 94.1% and 64.6% for Cabbage and Lettuce, respectively resulted in the mosr suitable for germination. The growth rates for Cabbage and Lettuce showed thar 10% and 20% of CellCaSi treatments signification influenced the fresh weight. To observe the adsorption capacity of CellCaSi, CellCaSi was treated with a chemical fertlizer(N:P:K=18:18:18). lncreasing the contents of N, P and K, the amounts of adsorption by CellCaSi for these element also increased. The most suitable types nutrient resources for growth condition of Cabbage, and Lettuce were Fer-1 and Fer-0.5.

This experiment was carried out to determine the effect of mixture ratios of worm cast and soil on the growth orchardgrass seedlings, and estimate the adequate mixture ratio of worm cast for plant growth media. Mixture ratios of worm cast and soil were 100:0, 80:20, 60:40, 40:60, 20:80 and 0:100, respectively. The results were summarized as follows; 1. The value of dry weight of shoot(SW), dry weight of root(RW), number of tillers per plant(NT) and biological yield(BY) were the highest in the mixture with 60% of worm cast. Particularly, the dry weight distribution to root in 20%-60% mixture ratios of worm cast were higher than those grown in 80%-100% mixture ratios of worm cast, it may due to the enhancement of root growth by adquate worm cast mix. 2. The orchardgrass seedlings in the 60% mixture ratio of worm cast grown in favourable soil conditions compared to those grown in other mixtrure ratios of worm cast and soil without worm cast. The soil analysis data showed that 60% mixture ratio of worm cast contained pH 6.16, 13.84% of organic matter, 0.84% of total nitrogen, 1,413.9ppm of available phosphorus and 16.7me/100g of cation exchange capacity, respectively. 3. Biological yield(BY) indicated positive significant correlation with the dry weights of shoot(SW) and root(RW). And, the dry weight of shoot(SW) had positive correlation with the number of tiller per plant(NT) and dry weight of tiller(WT).
The carbon dioxide($CO_2$) released while producing building materials is substantial and has been targeted as a leading contributor to global climate change. One of the most typical method to reducing $CO_2$ for building materials is the addition of slag and fly ash, like pozzolan material, while another method is reducing $CO_2$ production by carbon negative cement development. The MgO-based cement was from the low-temperature calcination of magnesite required less energy and emitted less $CO_2$ than the manufacturing of Portland cements. It is also believed that adding reactive MgO to Portland-pozzolan cements could improve their performance and also increase their capacity to absorb atmospheric $CO_2$. In this study, the basic research for magnesia cement using $MgCO_3$ and magnesium silicate ore (serpentine) as main starting materials, as well as silica fume, fly ash and blast furnace slag for the mineral admixture, were carried out for industrial waste material recycling. In order to increase the hydration activity, $MgCl_2$ was also added. To improve hydration activity, $MgCO_3$ and serpentinite were fired at $700^{\circ}C$ and autoclave treatment was conducted. In the case of $MgCO_3$ as starting material, hydration activity was the highest at firing temperature of $700^{\circ}C$. This $MgCO_3$ was completely transferred to MgO after firing. This occurred after the hydration reaction with water MgO was transferred completely to $Mg(OH)_2$ as a hydration product. In the case of using only $MgCO_3$, the compressive strength was 3.5MPa at 28 days. The addition of silica fume enhanced compressive strength to 5.5 MPa. In the composition of $MgCO_3$-serpentine, the addition of pozzolanic materials such as silica fume increased the compression strength. In particular, the addition of $MgCl_2$ compressive strength was increased to 80 MPa.

Seven constructed and three natural tidal flats were compared to evaluate state-of- the-art of creation and restoration technology for tidal flats. parameters studied were physico-chemical and biological characteristics of soils and rate of respiration. The natural tidal flats had higher contents of silts, nitrogen and organic matter compared to the constructed ones. The natural ones had reductive Bone below 2 cm whereas the constructed ones had oxidative zone from the surface to below 20 cm. The bacterial population in the soil of the constructed tidal flats was one to two magnitudes lower than that in the natural ones. Biomass of macrobenthos and microbial respiration rate, however, were not different significantly between the natural and the constructed tidal flats. The purification capacity by diatom+bacterial+meiobenthos and macrobenthos in the constructed tidal flats was higher than that in the natural ones due to deeper permeable layer for purification in the constructed tidal flats. There was an exceptional constructed tidal flat with similar physico-chemical and biological characteristics to natural ones. Shearing stress to the surface of the tidal flat by the flow of seawater was as low as that of natural ones. These hydraulic conditions seemed to be a controlling factor on structures and functions of tidal flats. The control of hydraulic condition seemed to be one of the most important factors to create natural-like tidal flats.

This study investigated the environmental and economical assessment for sewage sludge treatment options including biogasification, incineration, carbonization, drying, and solidification. For the economical feasibility the 30 plants with anaerobic digestion treatment and the 17 plants without anaerobic digestion treatment were investigated. In regarding to the environmental assessment, the air emission pollutants (SOx, NOx, etc) from incineration and carbonization plants were assessed and 1~34 % of emission limits was emitted. Drying and solidification plants emitted about 30 % of odour limits. And the rest of the pollutants were emitted either at not-detectable level or at below the limits. When the by-products from the solidification treatment was used as landfill cover materials, the unconfined compression strength could be below the limit and it could cause an unsafe condition for those passing vehicles and the possibility of the ground subsidence. There has been a maintenance difficulty due to frequent blockage and operational failure. The result of the comparison of sewage sludge treatment options showed that anaerobic digestion+incineration was the most economically feasible considering incineration and drying. For smaller treatment capacity, solidification was the most economically feasible considering carbonization and solidification and anaerobic digestion+carbonization was the most economically feasible considering carbonization and solidification.

Humic acid was used soil amendment or functional fertilizer in Korean agriculture, and its cation exchangeable capacity was high enough to increase soil buffering from plant toxicant. This study was conducted to evaluate effects of humic acid powder (HA) on composting of livestock manure (LM) and of its application on growth of lettuce. Treatments were designed as follows; livestock manure compost (LM+sawdust+bark+castor meal; Control), control+0.1% HA (0.1% HA), control+0.5% HA (0.5% HA), control+1.0% HA (1.0% HA), control+3.0% HA (3.0% HA), and control+5.0% HA (5.0% HA). The changes of temperature, water content, organic matter content, total nitrogen and ratio of organic matter and nitrogen in HA treatments were similar to those of control. Although pH of 3.0% HA and 5.0% HA blending with HA and LM was lower than those of others, it unaffected by HA blending during composting. Humic acid content of HA treatments was increased by 1.7~4.4 folds than that of control. As compared with odor index, 3.0% HA and 5% HA were decreased than control for composting time. Application of 3.0% HA increased the dry weight of lettuce by about 7% than that of control.

Composting is a cost-effective and environmentally-sound technology to treat soils contaminated with hazardous organic pollutants. Pollutants to be treated are as follows: explosives, phenolic compounds, PAHs, petroleum hydrocarbons, pesticides, and etc. Composting systems are windrow, static pile, and in-vessel. Design and operational parameters of composting are aeration modes, temperature, moisture content, nutrient supplement, amendment added, and etc. Appropriate oxygen concentration of composting for contaminated soils are 5~15%, while some compounds are degraded well at the low $O_2$ concentration of 2~5%. The most diverse microorganisms live in the temperature of $25{\sim}40^{\circ}$. 50~90% of the soil field capacity is the moisture content not to make a problem in composting. Assuming a bacterial chemical equation is $C_{60}H_{87}O_{23}N_{12}P$, theoretical C : N : P from bacterial chemical portion is approximately 20 : 5 : 1. It should be noted that the ratio does not apply to the total organic carbon measured in a waste because not all carbon metabolized by bacteria is synthesized to new cellular material. Initial C/N ratio of 25~40 is optimum. It is more economical to recycle soils or composts than to add commercial microbes.

This study was carried out to investigate the effects of aging and soil texture on composting of diesel-contaminated soil. The soils used for this study were silt loam and sand. Target contaminant, diesel oil, was spiked at 10,000mgTPH/kg of dry soil. Aging times of diesel-contaminated soils were 15days and 60days, respectively. Fresh diesel-contaminated soil was also investigated. Moisture content was controlled to 70% of soil field capacity. Mix ratio of soil to sludge was 1:0.3 as wet weight basis. Temperature was maintained at $20^{\circ}C$ Volatilization loss of TPH was below 2% of initial concentration. n-Alkanes lost by volatilization were mainly by the compounds of C10 to C17. Diesel in contaminated soil was mainly removed by biodegradation mechanism. First order degradation rate constant of TPH in sandy soil was ranged from 0.081 to 0.094/day, which is higher than that in silt loam(0.056-0.061/day). From fresh to 60day-aged soils, there was little difference of TPH biodegradation rate between the soils. Carbon recovery ranged from 0.61 to 0.89. TPH degradation rate was highly correlated with $CO_2$ production rate.

The study was carried out to develop nursery soil for rice seedling of phyllite. First of all, physico-chemical properties of used phyllite in the study through the analysis for agricultural utilization evaluation are as following. Bulk density(BD) of phyllite was $1.31g/cm^3$ each other and porosity had 65% of entire pore size. Also, the water holding capacity(WHC) was 43% at 1/3bar pressure, which phyllite has high WHC. According to, the results the experiments for nursery soil were conducted by mixing the materials such as phyllite, zeolite and hill soil. The mixing ratios were 30, 50, and 70% for zeolite and hill soil into phyllite. These mixed materials were packed in a box by adding 0, 1 and 2g of N-fertilizer. At seedling test, there were increases in the growth of shoot and root of rice for phyllite to zeolite and phyllite to hill soil, respectively. On the other hand, the length of leaf increased with increasing application rate of phyllite, while length and a number of root increased with increasing application rate of hill soil. The growth in the plots of phyllite to zeolite and phyllite to hill soil was better than in control plot. Finally, phyllite plot had efficient results when it compared with others and the study used with phyllite will have to more research and effort for agricultural useful material.

The study was conducted to investigate the changes of soil properties and evaluation of plant utilization according to the application of compost used with phyllite. At this experiment, the plant cultivation test(lettuce and radish plant) was carried out to know about physico-chemical properties of compost, humus degradarion and stabilization degree, and some effects among rhe treatments were best at 20Mg/ha in PSPC 10(Phyllite, Saw dust, Pig manure Compost) plots and ar 10Mg/ha in PSPC 20 treatments, respectively. The EC value was high in the compost. Therefore the EC was appeared more than 2ds/m at the applied 40Mg/ha with compost. And in case of lettuce, Avail.-$P_2O_5$ and EC were more increased than in the radish plots, highly. In contrast, in case of radish, Toral-N, Total-C, and EC contents were decreased after plant cultivation. That is, it could know that radish was fond of absorprion of nitrogen. Also, BD values of soil physical properties were decreased according to increasing of phyllite addition ratio, however water holding capacity(WHC) was increased. The plant test had not been darnaged through the application of compost used with phyllite in soil and there had not been worse on changing of soil physico-chemical properties. Consequently, phyllite composts have been thought on agricultural utilized possibility.
