  • In marine environment, the durability of concrete and reinforcing steel is known to be deteriorate by the permeation of chloride ion into concrete. In this study the conductive photocatalyst was used to improve the seawater corrosion resistance of the concrete and steel. Mortar and concrete samples were prepared by mixing with various amounts of conductive active carbon and photocatalytic powder($TiO_2$). The compressive strength of concrete was decreased with the increase of the amount of conductive carbon powders. The samples containing conductive carbon and photocatalytic powders showed the superior seawater corrosion resistance compared with the ordinary sample, which was verified by XRF analysis showing the concentration of chloride ion($Cl^-$) of mortars and concretes. The inhibitive effect of photocatalyst against chloride attack was discussed with the diffusion coefficient of chloride ion into mortar and concrete.

  • In general, various factors such as grain size, chemical composition, amorphous amount, amorphous Si and Al content of fly ash affect the reaction with cement. In this study, we investigate the effect of fly ash particle characteristics on compressive strength. The standard sand was pulverized to a particle size similar to that of fly ash and the compressive strength was measured by blending with the cement as in fly. Using the measured compressive strength results, strength enhancement by cement hydration reaction and strength enhancement by particle filling effect were confirmed. Strength increment by pozzolanic reaction of fly ash was calculated by using the compressive strength results of mortar substituted with standard powder. As a result of comparison between compressive strengths and the particle characteristics of fly ash, the blaine showed a weak correlation with the compressive strength and the PI(Pozzolanic Index) showed good correlation with the 10% penetration diameter(D10) and the 50% Respectively. Therefore, it is expected that PI will be a good means to evaluate the fly ash characteristics together with the chemical characteristics of fly ash.

  • This study investigated quality properties of alkali activated cement free mortar using industrial by-product such as cement kiln dust(CKD), silica fume(SF) and quartz sand powder(SP) to compare with previous research about blast furnace slag(BS) and fly ash(FA). The results were as following. All materials were effective to increase compressive strength, however they showed different tendency on flowability. CKD and SP increased flowability, but on the other hand SF did not because it's blain was great difference with other materials. Flowability and compressive strength were related with grading distributions of binders because CKD, SP and SF which had small particle size filled up BS and FA. Application of industrial by-products with various grading distributions could be effective for the high early strength and flowability of alkali activated cement free mortar using BS.

  • With the vision of 'a low carbon green develop' various industrial by-products were used as replacement of cement, in order to reduce $CO_2$ emissions from the manufacturing process of cement. Blast furnace slag is one of the industrial by-products. Due to the similar chemical compositions to ordinary Portland cement, blast furnace slag have been widely used in concrete with minimum side effects. Hence, in recent years, alkali activated slag-based composites are extensively studied by many researchers. However, the alkali activator can cause a number of problems in practice. Therefore, in this study, an alternative way of activating the slag was investigated. To activate the slag without using an alkali activator, calcium sulfate dihydrate was chosen and mixed with natural recycled fine aggregate. Fundamental properties of the slag-based mortar were tested to evaluate the effect of calcium sulfate dihydrate.

  • Recently, recycling method of waste wafer has been an area of solar cell to cut costs. Micro_blasting is one of the promising candidates for recycling of waste wafer due to their extremely simple and cost-effective process. In this paper, we attempt to explore the effect of micro_blasting and DRE(damage removal etching) process for solar cell. The optimal process conditions of micro_blasting are as follows: $10{\mu}m$ sized $Al_2O_3$ powder, jetting pressure of 400 kPa, and scan_speed of 30 cm/s. And the particles formed on micro_blasted wafer were removed by DRE precess which was performed by using HNA(HF/$HNO_3$/$CH_3COOH$) and TMAH(tetramethyl ammonium hydroxide). Structural analysis was done using a-step and the XRD patterns.

  • In accordance with the amendment of the Industrial Safety and Health Act of 2007, Korea completely prohibited the import, distribution and manufacture of asbestos like Europe and Japan. Accordingly, the current problem of asbestos is the safe maintenance and disposal of asbestos construction material, the disposal of asbestos, and the final disposal of asbestos building materials. If the asbestos building material is made harmless, it may be classified as general waste or as recyclable waste. Therefore, this study evaluated the physical and chemical characterization of detoxified asbestos powder and the applicability of secondary products. In this study, it was found that applying the appropriate temperature and pressure for catalysis during asbestos desalination through low temperature chemical treatment was the most important factor.

  • Recently, domestically and internationally, the occurrences of Waste Glass are on the increase. Most of scrap glass are either reused of recycled. However, glass not recycled is buriedand is causing secondary environmental problem. With 5% mixture of Waste Glass, the average paste viscosity (rheology) decreased by 22.3% and 28-day compressive strength of mortar's flow and aging decreased by 1.5% and 6% respectively. Also, as Waste Glass mixture ratio of un-hardened elf-compacting concrete increased, fluidity increased and compressive strength decreased. In consideration of adequate compressive strength and fluidity that meets the 2nd class JSCE regulations; optimum mixture ratio of Waste Glass can be concluded as 20%.

  • CaO-based by-products composed of CaO, SO3, Al2O3, etc. are generally used as raw materials for CaO compounds. When applied to the recovered water of ready-mixed concrete, the hydration reaction of the powder material is accelerated and concrete performance can be improved. In this study, activated sludge was prepared to apply to the recovered water of ready-mixed concrete by mixing CaO-based hot-rolled slag(C12A7) in the recycling water of ready-m ixed concrete. Cem ent paste setting time and mortar compressive strength performance tests confirmed the effect on the hydration reaction. Therefore, the possibility of concrete application using activated sludge was confirmed.

  • The purpose of this study was to develop self-heating concrete by utilizing the conduction resistance of concrete in order to reduce the risk of occurrence of black ice in the concrete pavement in winter and to prevent damage caused by freez-thawing effect. For this purpose, it was attempted to evaluate the strength and temperature exothermic characteristics using powder and liquid waste CNTs and a waste cathode agent as a conduction promotion. It was analyzed that liquid waste CNT had an effective dispersion degree in the mortar and a small decrease in strength occurred. In addition, DC 24 V was supplied by applying steel mesh, copper foil and copper wire to the mortar as electrodes, and the temperature change characteristics according to the mixing ratio of spent CNTs, anodes and carbon fibers were evaluated. In addition, by evaluating the temperature characteristics according to the electrode spacing from the selected optimal mixture, it was confirmed that it had sufficient heating characteristics up to an electrode spacing of 100 mm up to AC 50 V.

  • In this paper, as part of a study for carbon neutrality, the quality properties of quaternary component high-fluidity concrete, which significantly replaced up to 80 % of the cement usage by using three industrial by-products, were evaluated. As a result of the evaluation, even if a large amount of industrial by-products were replaced by more than 80 % of the amount of cement used, it was possible to obtain quality that satisfies the target performance in all concrete mix. In the case of flow properties, mechanical properties, and durability, compared to the existing standard concrete mix, the performance tends to decrease, but it is judged that the performance above the required performance level can be satisfied. When considered comprehensively, the quaternary component High-Fluidity Concrete with a large mixing amount of fine powder of blast furnace slag showed relatively good performance.
