This study was performed to evaluate the strength and durability properties of recycled polymer concrete using unsaturated polyester resin and recycled aggregates. Unsaturated polyester resin, natural and recycled aggregates and fly ash were used. The mix proportions were determined to satisfy the requirement for the workability and slump according to aggregate sizes (5-10 and 5-25 mm) and unit binder contents (10% and 12%). Tests for the compressive and flexural strength, freezing and thawing and durability for 20% sulfuric solution were performed. The compressive and flexural strength of recycled polymer concrete were in the range of 85~97 MPa and 17.9~20.8 MPa, respectively. The strengths of recycled polymer concrete using recycled aggregate have similar or slightly decreased compared to polymer concrete using natural aggregate. After 300 cycles of freezing and thawing, weight decrease ratio and durability factor of recycled polymer concrete were in the range of 0.13~1.42% and 94~99, respectively.
This study is performed to examine properties of polymer permeability concrete using recycled coarse aggregate and blast furnace slag for application of structures needed permeability. Tests for compressive strength, flexural strength and pulse velocity with replacement ratio of recycled coarse aggregate are performed. As a result, compressive strength, flexural strength and coefficient of permeability of polymer permeability concrete containing recycled coarse aggregate are in the range of $180{\sim}200kgf/cm^2,\;58{\sim}64kgf/cm^2\;and\;4.6{\times}10^{-2}{\sim}6.9{\times}10^{-2}cm/s$, respectively. Compressive strength, flexural strength and pulse velocity of polymer concrete containing crushed stone only are $192kgf/cm^2,\;65kgf/cm^2\;and\;6.1{\times}10^{-2}cm/s$, respectively. Accordingly, recycled coarse aggregate is expected that can be utilizing as an aggregate of polymer permeability concrete.
The reuse of waste concrete amy settle the problems of environmental pollution and critical shortage of good natural aggregate. But recycled aggregate particles consist of substantial amount of relatively soft cement paste component. These aggregates are more porous, and les resistant to mechanical actions than natural aggregate. And the source of supply for manufacturing recycled aggregate is generally composed of different types of original aggregate and strengths of original mortar. The properties of recycled aggregate exhibit a considerable variation due to the properties of original concrete. This paper is an experimental study on the fundamental properties of recycled aggregates sampled from processing plant in the suburbs of TaeJeon.
The use of recycled-aggregate concrete is increasing faster than the development of appropriate design recommendations. In addition, recycled-aggregate and higher compressive strengths are two of the most desired characteristics to improve the use of concrete as a construction material. The paper reports limited experimental data on the shear capacity of high-strength recycled aggregate concrete beams. Ten beams were tested to determine their diagonal cracking and ultimate shear capacities. The variable in the test program were concrete strength(300, 500 and 700kgf/$cm^{2}$), and shear span/depth ratio (a/d : 2.0, 3.0 and 4.0). Test results indicate that the ACI Building code prediction of Eq.(11-3) and (11-5) for high-strength recycled aggregate concretes are unconservative for all beams (with concrete strength 300, 500 and 700kgf/$cm^{2}$, a/d ratios 2.0, 3.0 and 4.0). But Zsutty Equation for high-strength recycled aggregate concretes is conservative for all beams. The results of the experimental investigation on the cracking patterns for beams show that the angle that the critical inclined crack makes with the horizontal axis decreases with increasing a/d.
The mechanical characteristics of newly recycled aggregate concrete on the basis of the proposed mix design model have been studied to develop the precast artificial fishing reefs. In the first task, the experimental test for the recycled aggregates taken from Jeju Island has been carried out to verify the material properties in terms of specific gravity, percentage of solids, absorption and abrasion of coarse aggregates. In the second task, the experimental parameters of newly recycled aggregate concrete are investigated to meet with the requirements of guidelines with respect to slump, unit weight, pH, ultrasonic velocity, void ratio, and compressive strength which are made of sea-shore sand ad slag cement. The natural aggregate and polypropylene fiber are added to newly recycled aggregate concrete to improve the compressive strength and quality. The optimal mix proportions for compressive strength are W/C=30%, S/a=15%, NA/G=50% in porous concrete case, W/C=40%, S/a=45% in plain concrete case, and W/C=40%, S/a-45%, PF=1.0kg/㎥ in fiber reinforced concrete case.
In many countries a considerable amount of demolition wastes is generated and wastes concrete constitutes a significant proportion of the construction waste. Therefore, the necessity for the use of recycled aggregate in concrete arise and the reuse of a waste concrete may solve the problems of environmental pollution and shortage of natural aggregate. The Purpose of the present study is to investigate the effects of the recycled aggregate on the compressive strength, the permeability and the air-void system.
Social and environmental pressures draw greater significance on the recycling of the waste. Particularly, waste concrete is particularly crucial among the construction wastes in terms of conservation of natural construction resources as well as disposal crisis. The technology to recycle the waste concrete has been improved. This study has various replacement levels of natural fine aggregate with recycled fine aggregate while coarse aggregate is completely replaced with the recycled coarse aggregate and herein fundamental properties investigated include compressive strength, shrinkage and dynamic modulus of elasticity. As a result, it is anticipated that the recycled aggregate concrete can be successfully applied to structural concrete members provided a proper recycling process, mix design and curing method are practiced.
