Observation and Analysis of Shoreline Changes Using the Remote Unmanned Automatic Camera Monitoring System (원격 무인 자동 영상 관측 시스템을 활용한 해안선 변화 관측 및 분석)

  • The shoreline changes were observed and analysed using the video image by a remote unmanned automatic camera monitoring system installed at Haeundae beach of Busan City. In order to analyse quantitatively the shoreline changes caused by waves and tides, the image averaging technique and the rectification technique for obliquely acquired image were applied to the video image during the typhoon Bart in September, 1999. The results showed that the camera monitoring system can be used as a very cost effective and efficient tool for monitoring shorelines which change continuously due to waves and tides.

Misinformation Detection and Rectification Based on QA System and Text Similarity with COVID-19

  • As COVID-19 spread widely, and rapidly, the number of misinformation is also increasing, which WHO has referred to this phenomenon as "Infodemic". The purpose of this research is to develop detection and rectification of COVID-19 misinformation based on Open-domain QA system and text similarity. 9 testing conditions were used in this model. For open-domain QA system, 6 conditions were applied using three different types of dataset types, scientific, social media, and news, both datasets, and two different methods of choosing the answer, choosing the top answer generated from the QA system and voting from the top three answers generated from QA system. The other 3 conditions were the Closed-Domain QA system with different dataset types. The best results from the testing model were 76% using all datasets with voting from the top 3 answers outperforming by 16% from the closed-domain model.

Automated Image Alignment and Monitoring Method for Efficient Stereoscopic 3D Contents Production (스테레오스코픽 3D 콘텐츠 제작의 효율성 향상을 위한 자동 영상정렬 및 모니터링 기법)

  • Minimization of visual fatigue is important for production of high quality stereoscopic 3D contents. Vertical disparity of stereo images occurred during contents production is considered as the main factor of visual fatigue. To ensure correct stereoscopy vertical disparity needs to be eliminated. In this paper, a method for automated image alignment was proposed for Stereoscopic 3D contents generation and post-processing steps. The proposed method consists of two parts: rectification for image alignment and camera motion detection. The proposed method showed that its rectification performance was the most superior among the existing methods tested and that camera motion detection had a success rate of 98.35%. Through these evaluations, we confirmed that the proposed method can be effectively applied to 3D contents production.

  • Motion capture system is widely used nowadays in the entertainment industry like movies, computer games and broadcasting. This system consist of several high resolution and high speed CCD cameras and expensive frame grabbing hardware for image acquisition. KAIST VR laboratory focused on low cost system for a few years and have been developed a LAN based optical motion capture system. But, by using low cost system some problems like occlusion, noise and swapping of markers' trajectory can be occurred. And more labor intensive work is needed for post-processing process. In this thesis, we propose a trajectory rectification algorithm by confidence model of markers attached on actor. Confidence model is based on graph structure and consist of linkage, marker and frame confidence. To reduce the manual work in post-processing, we have to reconstruct the marker graph by maximizing the frame confidence.

Analysis of Synchronous Rectification Discontinuous PWM for SiC MOSFET Three Phase Inverters

  • Wide band gap semiconductor devices such as SiC MOSFETs are becoming the preferred devices for high frequency and high power density converters due to their excellent performances. However, the proportion of the switching loss that accounts for the whole inverter loss is growing along with an increase of the switching frequency. In view of the third quadrant working characteristics of a SiC MOSFET, synchronous rectification discontinuous pulse-width modulation is proposed (SRDPWM) to further reduce system losses. The SRDPWM has been analyzed in detail. Based on a frequency domain mathematical model, a quantitative mathematical analysis of the harmonic characteristic is conducted by double Fourier transform. Meanwhile, a switching loss model and a conduction loss model of inverter for SRDPWM have been built. Simulation and experimental results verify the result of the harmonic analysis of the double Fourier analysis and the accuracy of the loss models. The efficiencies of the SRDPWM and the SVPWM are compared. The result indicates that the SRDPWM has fewer losses and a higher efficiency than the SVPWM under high switching frequency and light load conditions as a result of the reduced number of switching transitions. In addition, the SRDPWM is more suitable for SiC MOSFET converters.

Electrophysiological Characterization of AMPA and NMDA Receptors in Rat Dorsal Striatum

  • The striatum receives glutamatergic afferents from the cortex and thalamus, and these synaptic transmissions are mediated by ${\alpha}$-amino-3-hydroxy-5-methyl-4-isoxazolepropionate (AMPA) and N-methyl D-aspartate (NMDA) receptors. The purpose of this study was to characterize glutamate receptors by analyzing NMDA/AMPA ratio and rectification of AMPA and NMDA excitatory postsynaptic currents (EPSCs) using a whole-cell voltage-clamp method in the dorsal striatum. Receptor antagonists were used to isolate receptor or subunit specific EPSC, such as (DL)-2-amino-5-phosphonovaleric acid (APV), an NMDA receptor antagonist, ifenprodil, an NR2B antagonist, CNQX, an AMPA receptor antagonist and IEM-1460, a GluR2-lacking AMPA receptor blocker. AMPA and NMDA EPSCs were recorded at - 70 and + 40 mV, respectively. Rectification index was calculated by current ratio of EPSCs between + 50 and - 50 mV. NMDA/AMPA ratio was 0.20${\pm}$0.05, AMPA receptor ratio of GluR2-lacking/GluR2-containing subunit was 0.26${\pm}$0.05 and NMDA receptor ratio of NR2B/NR2A subunit was 0.32${\pm}$0.03. The rectification index (control 2.39${\pm}$0.27) was decreased in the presence of both APV and combination of APV and IEM-1460 (1.02${\pm}$0.11 and 0.93${\pm}$0.09, respectively). These results suggest that the major components of the striatal glutamate receptors are GluR2-containing AMPA receptors and NR2A-containing NMDA receptors. Our results may provide useful information for corticostriatal synaptic transmission and plasticity studies.

Harmonic Reduction of Electric Propulsion Ship using New Rectification Scheme (새로운 정류방식을 이용한 전기추진선박의 고조파 저감)

  • Currently, the AC-to-DC power conversion system using diode rectifiers is mainly used in large vessels. Also, to reduce the total harmonic distortion(THD) of current and voltage, this system requires an additional phase-shifting transformer which can be powered multi-pulses. In this case, due to the installation of the transformer, the spatial or economic loss occurs. This paper presents a novel active rectification scheme using silicon controlled rectifier(SCR) or insulated gate bipolar transistor(IGBT) devices on behalf of the diode rectifiers which are currently operating in large vessels such as LNG Carrier(LNGC). The proposed system can use the low voltage source and reduce current and voltage harmonics generated by nonlinear loads connected to the power distribution bus and save economic costs by removing the phase-shifting transformers which are used in conventional system. Computer simulations are performed under the electric propulsion system which is operating in current large vessel. The results are shown in support of the improvement of THD included in the current and voltage wave forms of propulsion motor.
