This paper presents the design and construction details of a soundproof enclosure for housing 20 KVA diesel generator-set. As the generator had to be installed close to the hospital building, it was desirable to reduce the transmission of noise by housing the generator in such an enclosure. The diesel engine being an air cooled one, it was essential to supply fresh air into the enclosure for its cooling. Forced inflow of air is provided through an inlet duct located in such a way that the incoming fresh air is thrown close to the inlet of cooling fan of the engine. The high velocity air stream, which heats up while passing over the engine head, escapes to the atmosphere through a rectangular outlet duct with enlarges inlet that receives hot air from the engine. The air ducts were designed specially and have been provided with acoustic lining for sound absorption. The masonary enclosure has been provided with double glazed fixed windows and double doors. The exhaust pipe of the engine fitted with a muffler has been taken out through the enclosure wall facing away from the hospital. Acoustic performance studies conducted in terms of attenuation provided by the enclosure at different frequencies have also been presented and discussed. The noise control measures adopted for building the sound-proof enclosure have been found to be quite effective as the noise levels inside the hospital building are now within the acceptable limits.

Surface heat transfer of a fully developed turbulent air flow in a $45^{\circ}$ inclined ribbed square duct with two and four heating walls was experimentally investigated, at which the experimental works were peformed for Reynolds numbers ranging from 7,600 to 26,000. The pitch-to-rib height ratio, p/e, was kept at 8 and rib-height-to-channel hydraulic diameter ratio, $e/D_h$ was kept at 0.0667. The channel length-to-hydraulic diameter ratio, $L/D_h$ was 60. The heat transfer coefficient values were decreased with the increase in the number of heat-ing walls. Results of this investigation could be used in various applications of internal channel turbulent flow involving roughened walls.

The present study investigates heat/mass transfer and flow characteristics in a ribbed rotating passage with turning region. The duct has an aspect ratio (W/H) of 0.5 and a hydraulic diameter ($D_h$) of 26.67 mm. Rib turbulators are attached in the parallel arrangement on the leading and trailing surfaces of the passage. The ribs have a rectangular cross section of 2 m (e) $\times$ 3 m (w) and an attack angle of $70^{\circ}$. The pitch-to-rib height ratio (p/e) is 7.5, and the rib height-to-hydraulic diameter ratio (e/$D_h$) is 0.075. The rotation number ranges from 0.0 to 0.20 while the Reynolds number is constant at 10,000. To verify the heat/mass transfer augmentation, internal flow structures are calculated for the same conditions using a commercial code FLUENT 6.1. The results show that a pair of vortex cells are generated due to the symmetric geometry of the rib arrangement, and heat/mass transfer is augmented up to $Sh/Sh_0=2.9$ averagely, which is higher than that of the cross-ribbed case presented in the previous study for the stationary case. With the passage rotation, the main flow in the first-pass deflects toward the trailing surface and the heat transfer is enhanced on the trailing surface. In the second-pass, the flow enlarges the vortex cell close to the leading surface, and the small vortex cell on the trailing surface side contracts to disappear as the passage rotates faster. At the highest rotation number ($R_O=0.20$), the turn-induced single vortex cell becomes identical regardless of the rib configuration so that similar local heat/mass transfer distributions are observed in the fuming region for the cross- and parallel-ribbed case.
Convenient design guideline for Waveguide-below-cutoff (WBC) array is proposed to obtain the minimum waveguide length for electromagnetic pulse (EMP) shielding. The analysis includes circular, rectangular, and hexagonal WBC, determine the total length of the waveguide. When the unit side of rectangular WBC and the diagonal line of hexagonal WBC are given as 30 mm, the length of hexagonal WBC is 5 mm shorter than rectangular case with shielding effectiveness (SE) 80 dB. The length difference is deepened with SE of 100 dB, which shows approximately 30 mm shorter length for hexagonal case than others. In addition, hexagonal WBC requires much shorter length than circular WBC. In conclusion, hexagonal case is the most effective with respect to flow velocity and pressure loss for equivalent SE.
A numerical procedure for analyzing the heat transfer in a regenerative cooling passage of liquid rocket has been developed. The thermal analysis is based on the numerical model of Naraghi〔1〕. The thermodynamic and transport properties of the combustion gases are evaluated using the chemical equilibrium composition. The pressure and heat flux obtained by the isentropic relation are in good agreement with the result of Navier-Stokes equations. The effect of design parameters on heat transfer is addressed for the pressure loss and temperature variation. Also, their constraints in designing the cooling passage are recommended. Finally, in a heated rectangular duct, the effects of secondary flow on heat transfer are scrutinized by the nonlinear k- e -fu of Park et at.〔2〕.
Experimental investigations were conducted to study forced convection of fully developed turbulent flows in horizontal equilateral triangular ducts with different surface roughness pitch ratios (P/e) of 4, 8, and 16 on one side. The ducts bottom wall was heated uniformly and the other surfaces were thermally insulated. To understand heat transfer enhancement mechanism, heat transfer rates were measured. Smooth triangular ducts were also tested for benchmark purposes. The results were compared with previous results for similarly configured channels, at which they were roughened by regularly spaced transverse ribs in the rectangular and circular channels.

With a view to estimating the effect of flows on evolving sprays and combustion in ramjet combustor and corresponding extent of combustion, ram air flows in combustion chamber is numerically experimented. Preconditioned three dimensional Navier-Stokes system of equations per transient, compressible, turbulent flows in IRR(Integral Rocket Ramjet) combustor is numerically integrated. Flow properties in the side-dump ramjet combustor, rectangular duct with two 60-deg curved inlets located radially at an angle of 180-deg, are addressed in terms of mixing quality and extent of combustion efficiency.
The present numerical study investigates flow characters and heat transfer enhancement by the viscoelastic-driven secondary flow and buoyancy effect in a 2:1 rectangular duct. Three versions of thermal boundary conditions involving difference combination of heated walls and adiabatic walls are analyzed in this study. The Reiner-Rivlin model is adopted as a viscoelastic fluid model to simulate the secondary flow and temperature-dependent viscosity model is used. Calculated Nusselt numbers are very good agreement with experimental results for reported viscoelastic fluids. It is found that the heat transfer enhancement is mainly caused by the viscoelastic-driven secondary flow and buoyancy-induced secondary flow play a role of promoting this effect.

The present numerical study investigates flow characteristics and heat transfer enhancement of the viscoelastic non-Newtonian fluid in a 2:1 rectangular duct. The combined effect of temperature-dependent viscosity, buoyancy and secondary flow caused by second normal stress difference are all considered. The Reiner-Rivlin model is used as a viscoelastic fluid model to simulate the secondary flow and temperature-dependent viscosity model is adopted. Three types of thermal boundary conditions involving different combinations of heated walls and adiabatic walls are considered in this study. Calculated Nusselt numbers are in good agreement with experimental results in both the thermal developing and thermally developed regions. The heat transfer enhancement can be explained by the combined viscoelasticity-driven secondary flow, buoyancy-induced secondary flow and temperature-dependent viscosity.
