Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the pain recovery pattern according to the integrity and to analyze the factors affecting the progress and level of pain postoperatively. Materials and Methods: We examined 153 patients, who were treated with arthroscopic rotator cuff repair. 101 rotator cuff tears were full-thickness tear and 52 were partial tear. The mean follow up duration was 20 months (12~30 months). We evaluated the visual analogue scale, range of motion, ASES (American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons), and UCLA (University of California at Los Angeles) scores preoperatively and postoperatively. We analyzed the pain recovery pattern between partial and full thickness tear using Student T-test and the factors affecting the progress and level of postoperative pain using multiple regression analysis. Results: The change patterns of visual analogue scale after arthroscpoic repair were similar regardless of the tear integrity. The VAS showed a continuous decreasing pattern, but increased at first 3 weeks postoperatively and at 7 weeks postoperatively, and then, decreased thereafter. The average VAS was ${\leqq}2$ points by postoperative 3 months. The factor affecting the pain score at 3 months was related to the preoperative limitation in forward flexion ($r^2=0.377$, p=0.021). Conclusion: There was no differences of the pain recovery pattern according to the integrity, and the factor affecting the progress of postoperative pain was preoperative angle of forward elevation. So, the appropriate preoperative rehabilitation protocol that can improve motions of the shoulder joint would help to improve the level of postoperative pain and functional recovery.
Cold tolerance of the native Rhododendron species which are on the verge of extinction in Korean nature were compared with the introduced species and its mechanism were studied physiologically with the investigation of the leaf angle, leaf curling, and photosynthetic activity. The degree of cold tolerance measured with the leaf burning after winter season was higher in the native species, Rhododendron brachycarpum and Rhododendron brachycarpum var. roseum than all the introduced species. 'Nova Zembla', an introduced species, showed high sensitivity to the low temperature. Changes in leaf angle by the low temperature were bigger in 2 native species and 'Parker's Pink' than the other introduced species and small comparatively in 'Nova Zembla' and 'Cunningham's White' cultivar. Leaf curling also occurred strongly in 2 native species by the low temperature. While, it was comparatively little and mild in the other introduced species. Therefore these results suggested that the leaf movement such as leaf angle change and curling adapted to the low temperature is positively related to the cold tolerance of 2 native species. By the way, such relationship is not explainable in the cold-sensitive 'Parker's Pink' cultivar showing comparatively stronger leaf movement. Photosynthetic activity measured before the winter season was high in the cold-tolerant R. brachycarpum and its recovery after winter season was faster in the 2 native species and the introduced 'Cynosure' cultivar than the other introduced species. They were the lowest in the most cold-sensitive 'Nova Zembla'. This phenomena occurred similarly even in the stomatal conductivity, suggesting that the movement of water from the roots to the leaves is better and then the leaf burning after winter season become small in the cold-tolerant species. The recovery of photosynthetic activity and stomatal conductivity was comparatively slower in the cold-sensitive 'Parker's Pink'. From the above results, leaf behavior adapted to the low temperature during the winter season and water movement to the leaves are related collectively to the cold tolerance represented as the leaf burning in the Rhododendron species is suggested.

There are attempts to utilize Hanji for apparel material, but, the reason that the strength and durability of Hanji decrease to a great extent in the wet condition, restricts the usability of Hanji. In order to improve the resistance against water, Hanji was treated with silicone type water repellent agents. The treatment was carried out by conventional pad-dry-cure method. The optimum treatment condition was obtained by varying the concentration of repellent agent, curing temperature and time. Water repellency was tested by spray rating method. Wet and dry tensile strength, tearing resistance and abrasion resistance were examined after the treatment. Flexural stiffness and wrinkle recovery angles of hanji were also measured. In result, the optimum condition of treatment was at resin concentration of 40g/l, catalyst concentration of 20g/l(half of resin concentration), curing temperature of 160$^{circ}C$, curing time of 120 sec. Flexural stiffness of Hanji was hardly increased and wrinkle recovery angle of Hanji was improved a little by resin treatment. After the treatment, in dry condition, tensile strength and tearing resistance were little changed but abrasion resistance was improved. In wet condition, tensile strength, tearing strength and abrasion resistance were improved.

Herein, the preparation of anion exchange membrane (AEM) from brominated poly(2,6-dimethyl 1,6-phenylene oxide) BPPO and dimethylaniline (DMA) by phase-inversion process is reported. Anion exchange membranes (AEMs) are prepared by varying the DMA contents. Prepared AEMs show high thermal stability, water uptake (WR) around 202% to 226%, dimensional change ratios of 1.5% to 2.6% and ion exchange capacities (IECs) of 0.34 mmol/g to 0.82 mmol/g with contact angle of $59.18^{\circ}$ to $65.15^{\circ}$. These membranes are porous in nature as confirmed by SEM observation. The porous property of membranes are important as it could reduce the resistance of transportation of ions across the membranes. They have been used in diffusion dialysis (DD) process for recovery of hydrochloric acid (HCl) from the mixture of HCl and ferrous chloride ($FeCl_2$). Presence of $-N+(CH_3)_2C_6H_5Br^-$ as a functional group in membrane matrix facilitates its applications in DD process. The dialysis coefficients of hydrochloric acid ($U_H$) of the membranes are in range of 0.0016 m/h to 0.14 m/h and the separation factors (S) are in range of 2.09 to 7.32 in the $HCl/FeCl_2$ system at room temperature. The porous membrane structure and presence of amine functional group are responsible for the mechanism of diffusion dialysis (DD).

To acquire the dynamic response and design the controller of the airship, the longitudinal motion of the airship with respect to the vertical gust, which is the nonlinear system, was studied. The effects of the apparent mass and moment of the airship delay the dynamic response and the settling time, which are slower than those of conventional airplanes. The current object of the airship is designed to cruise at 500~1000m altitude. At that height, the atmospheric conditions are generally unstable by wind gust. In this paper, it has been studied for the case of vertical gust, since the apparent mass effects are dominant in has been studied for the case of vertical gust, since the apparent mass effects are dominant in that plane. In addition to the study of the dynamic responses of the airship, the controller was designed using the PID-controller. When the gust was applied, airship responses were recovered of equilibrium states. However, it takes too ling time for recovery and the speed of airship is reduced. So, the aim in this paper was to fasten the recovery speed and to get back the cruising velocity. The control parameters were determined from the stability mode analysis, and the control inputs were the thrust and the elevator deflection angle.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of direct functional magnetic stimulation (FMS) of affected spinal cord on motor recovery following spinal cord injury in rats. Methods: After a contusion injury at the spinal level T9 using an NYU Impactor, functional magnetic stimulation was delivered by a magnetic stimulator through a round prototype coil (7 cm in diameter). Stimulation parameters were set as follows: repetition rate = 50 Hz (stimulus intensity 100% = 0.18 T), stimulation time = 20 min. Functional magnetic stimulation was administered twice a day, 5 days per week for 8 weeks starting 4 days after spinal cord injury. Functional magnetic stimulationwas delivered directly to the affected spinal cord. Outcomes of locomotor performance were assessed by the Basso Beattie Bresnahan (BBB) locomotor rating scale and by an inclined plane test weekly for 8 weeks. Results: In the BBB test, hindlimb motor function in the Functional magnetic stimulation group improved significantly more compared to the control group at 3, 4, 6, 7, and 8 weeks (p<0.05). In the inclined plane test, the angle of the plane in the functional magnetic stimulation group increased significantly more compared to the control group at 4, 5, 7, and 8 weeks (p<0.05). Conclusion: Our results demonstrate that direct Functional magnetic stimulation of the lesional site may have beneficial effects on motor improvement after spinal cord injury.

Background Orthognathic surgery is required in 25% to 35% of patients with a cleft lip and palate, for whom functional recovery and aesthetic improvement after surgery are important. The aim of this study was to examine maxillary and mandibular changes, along with concomitant soft tissue changes, in cleft patients who underwent LeFort I osteotomy and sagittal split ramus osteotomy (two-jaw surgery). Methods Twenty-eight cleft patients who underwent two-jaw surgery between August 2008 and November 2013 were included. Cephalometric analysis was conducted before and after surgery. Preoperative and postoperative measurements of the bone and soft tissue were compared. Results The mean horizontal advancement of the maxilla (point A) was 6.12 mm, while that of the mandible (point B) was -5.19 mm. The mean point A-nasion-point B angle was $-4.1^{\circ}$ before surgery, and increased to $2.5^{\circ}$ after surgery. The mean nasolabial angle was $72.7^{\circ}$ before surgery, and increased to $88.7^{\circ}$ after surgery. The mean minimal distance between Rickett's E-line and the upper lip was 6.52 mm before surgery and 1.81 mm after surgery. The ratio of soft tissue change to bone change was 0.55 between point A and point A' and 0.93 between point B and point B'. Conclusions Patients with cleft lip and palate who underwent two-jaw surgery showed optimal soft tissue changes. The position of the soft tissue (point A') was shifted by a distance equal to 55% of the change in the maxillary bone. Therefore, bone surgery without soft tissue correction can achieve good aesthetic results.
The study has been carried out to acquire some basic informations about Bacillus thuringiensis for developing the microbial pesticide. Three strains of Bacillus thuringiensis var. Kurstaki, dendrolimus and aizawai, were used in the experiments as follows. Growth characteristics of each strain were examined and parasporal protein crystals were isolated from the mixtures of spores and protein crystals by the new method of centrifugation in two-layer cushion of Renograffin using a fixed angle rotor. The results are as follows. 1. No difference was shown in growth characterestics among three strains of B. thuringiensis. In growth curves, all strains reached to exponential phase by 2 hr and stationary phase by 7-8 hr after inoculation. 2. The pH of the culture media during exponential growth stage decreased about 1.4 of a pH unit at the beginning of sporulation, but recovered during the early stage of sporulation and then remained nearly constant during the later stage. 3. As 10$m\ell$ sample was applied to two-layer cushion of Renograffin and then centrifuged for 1hr at 27,000g a fixed angle rotor, the purity and recovery ratio was 99.9% and 5.8%, respectively. It has been shown that the new method for the isolation of parasporal protein crystals was more efficient than any from the estabilished methods.

To produce renewable biomethane from biogas, the properties of physical absorbents such as water, methanol, 1-methyl-2-pyrrolidone (NMP), poly(ethylene glycol) dimethylether (PEGDME), and propylene carbonate (PC) were studied, and PC was applied to membrane contactor systems. Among physical absorbents, PC exhibited a high contact angle of $58.3^{\circ}$ on polypropylene surface, and a PC/water mixture (5 wt%) increased the contact angle to $90^{\circ}$. Furthermore, the PC/water mixture presented higher $CO_2$ absorption capacities (0.148-0.157 mmol/g) than that of water (0.121 mmol/g), demonstrating a good property as an absorbent for membrane contactors. Actual operations in membrane contactors using the PC/water mixture resulted in $CO_2$ removal of 98.0-97.8% with biomethane purities of 98.5-98.3%, presenting a strong potential for biogas treatment. However, the PC/water mixture yielded moderate improved in $CO_2$ removal and methane recovery, as compared with water in the membrane contactor operation. This is originated from insufficient desorption processes to reuse absorbent and low $CO_2$ flux of the PC/water absorbent. Thus, it is requiring optimizations of membrane contactor technology including development of absorbent and improvement of operation process.
Damage of forest fire should be investigated quickly and accurately for recovery, compensation and prevention of secondary disaster. Using remotely sensed data, burn severity is investigated based on the difference of reflectance or spectral indices before and after forest fire. Recently, the use of high resolution satellite and UAV imagery is increasing, but it is not easy to obtain an image before forest fire that cannot be predicted where and when. This study tried to analyze availability of high-resolution images and supervised classifiers on the burn severity classification. Two supervised classifiers were applied to the KOMPSAT-3A image and the UAV multispectral image acquired after the forest fire. The maximum likelihood (MLH) classifier use absolute value of spectral reflectance and the spectral angle mapper (SAM) classifier use pattern of spectra. As a result, in terms of spatial resolution, the classification accuracy of the UAV image was higher than that of the satellite image. However, both images shown very high classification accuracy, which means that they can be used for classification of burn severity. In terms of the classifier, the maximum likelihood method showed higher classification accuracy than the spectral angle mapper because some classes have similar spectral pattern although they have different absolute reflectance. Therefore, burn severity can be classified using the high resolution multispectral images after the fire, but an appropriate classifier should be selected to get high accuracy.
