  • In this paper, a two-switch high frequency flyback transformer linked zero voltage soft switching PWM DC-DC power converter implemented for distributed DC- feeding power conditioning supplies is proposed and discussed. This switch mode power converter circuit is mainly based on two main active power semiconductor switches and a main flyback high frequency transformer linked DC-DC converter in which, two passive lossless quasi-resonant snubbers with pulse current regeneration loops for energy recovery to the DC supply voltages composed of a three winding auxiliary high frequency pulse transformer, auxiliary capacitors and auxiliary diodes for inductive energy recovery discharge blocking due to snubber capacitors are introduced to achieve zero voltage soft switching from light to full load conditions. It is clarified that the passive resonant snubber-assisted soft switching PWM DC-DC power converter has some advantages such as simple circuit configuration, low cost, simple control scheme, high efficiency and lowered noises due to the soft switching commutation. Its operating principle is also described using each mode equivalent circuit. To determine the optimum resonant snubber circuit parameters, some practical design considerations are discussed and evaluated in this paper. Moreover, through experimentation the practical effectiveness of the proposed soft switching PWM DC-DC power converter using IGBTs is evaluated and compared with a hard switching PWM DC-DC power converter.

  • In this paper, we present a cooperative compressed spectrum sensing scheme for correlated signals in decentralized wideband cognitive radio networks. Compressed sensing is a signal processing technique that can recover signals which are sampled below the Nyquist rate with high probability, and can solve the necessity of high-speed analog-to-digital converter problem for wideband spectrum sensing. In compressed sensing, one of the main issues is to design recovery algorithms which accurately recover original signals from compressed signals. In this paper, in order to achieve high recovery performance, we consider the multiple measurement vector model which has a sequence of compressed signals, and propose a cooperative sparse Bayesian recovery algorithm which models the temporal correlation of the input signals.

  • The application of series compensator in a power system affects other devices such as circuit breakers transient recovery voltage (TRV) problem. In this paper, we analyze the TRV effect on a line circuit breaker in the cases with and without thyristor-controlled series capacitor (TCSC) via simulation, and suggest an effective method to overcome the increase of TRV due to the TCSC installation. It also discusses the impact of proposed protection on metal oxide varistor (MOV). A 345 kV transmission line in Korea was selected as a study case. Grid system was modelled using PSCAD (Power Systems Computer Aided Design) / EMTDC(Electro Magnetic Transient Direct Current). The TRV was analyzed by implementing a short circuit fault along the transmission line and at the breaker terminal. The proposed protection scheme, the TRV satisfies the standard. However, the MOV energy capacity increased as the delay time increased. This result can solve the TRV problem caused by the expected transmission line fault in a practical power system.

  • What is RFID Microchip tag attached to an object, the reader recognizes technology collectively, through communication with the server to authenticate the object. A variety of RFID tags, 13.56Mhz bandwidth RFID card, ISO/IEC 14443 standards based on NXP's Mifare tag occupies 72.5% of the world market. Of the Mifare tags, low cost tag Mifare Classic tag provided in accordance with the limited hardware-based security operations, protocol leaked by a variety of attacks and key recovery vulnerability exists. Therefore, in this paper, Cryptography Scheme and Secure Protocol for Safety Secure Scheme Construction in 13.56Mhz RFID have been designed. The proposed security scheme that KS generated by various fixed values and non-fixed value, S-Box operated, values crossed between LFSR and S-Box is fully satisfied spoofing, replay attacks, such as vulnerability of existing security and general RFID secure requirement. Also, It is designed by considering the limited hardware computational capabilities and existing security schemes, so it could be suit to Mifare Classic now.

  • The existing CREG-VP, a technique to compensate the successive cell losses caused by traffic congestion using the FEC method on the Vp, has the merits of the short average encoding decoding time and the compatibility with the ATM standard cell format, but it has the restriction in the number of regenerable cells. In this thesis, we propose a scheme to efficiently regenerate the cell losses even in the burst traffic property by the expansion of the CREG-VP. The proposed scheme improves the detection capability of the lost cells by changing the CRP and the regeneration performance of the successive cells by using the interleaved parity cell. The simulation result shows that the proposed method produces much improvements compared with the existing ones in the cell loss rate reduction factor.

  • Recently, Zhang proposed a scheme to hide information in encrypted images using synchronous stream ciphers. After the receiver decrypts the encrypted image and extracts data by calculating the spatial correlation property value using the fluctuation function which is designed to calculate spacial correlation between adjacent pixels in a decrypted image. Then, Hong improved the Zhang's data hiding scheme by introducing the side match technique. In this paper, a novel fluctuation function is proposed to reduce the recovery errors which arise during extracting hidden data. Then, we also demonstrated that the proposed fluctuation function outperforms the previous functions through computer simulations for sample images.

  • ATM network technology is generally used for the solution of integrating multimedia service in high-speed Internet. In Internet protocol based on ATM services, If single cell is lost in ATM layer, the entire TCP packet will be lost. Therefore, TCP performance will be degraded. In order to reduce cell loss, when congestion occur, UBR+EPD mechanism is proposed to improve the throughput in TCP over UBR, and ER scheme is suggested in TCP over ABR. In this paper, we analyzed the performance improvement effect of UBR+EPD with FRR (Fast Retransmission and Recovery), the adjusting EPD threshold parameter (R), and variation of MTU (Maximum Transport Unit) size. As a result, through the analysis of performance, we know that the improved throughput and fairness are shown by the proposed scheme.

  • A reversible data hiding scheme in JPEG compressed bitstreams is proposed, which could avoid decoding failure and file expansion by means of removing of bitstreams corresponding to high frequency coefficients and embedding of secret data in file header as comment part. We decode original JPEG images to quantified 8×8 DCT blocks, and search for a high frequency as an optimal termination point, beyond which the coefficients are set to zero. These blocks are separated into two parts so that termination point in the latter part is slightly smaller to make the whole blocks available in substitution. Then spare space is reserved to insert secret data after comment marker so that data extraction is independent of recovery in receiver. Marked images can be displayed normally such that it is difficult to distinguish deviation by human eyes. Termination point is adaptive for variation in secret size. A secret size below 500 bits produces a negligible distortion and a PSNR of approximately 50 dB, while PSNR is also mostly larger than 30 dB for a secret size up to 25000 bits. The experimental results show that the proposed technique exhibits significant advantages in computational complexity and preservation of file size for small hiding capacity, compared to previous methods.

  • To detect and recover packet losses over wireless links is very important in terms of reliability in packet transmission. Most wireless communication systems adopt an automatic repeat request (ARQ) protocol operating at link layer. However, it has been constantly addressed that the interaction not harmonized sufficiently between ARQ and TCP rather degrades TCP performance. In this paper, therefore, we propose an improved scheme from the aspect of the interaction with TCP loss recovery mechanism that can be applied to selective repeat ARQ (SR-ARQ) protocol and prove that the proposed scheme improves TCP performance significantly by OPNET simulations.

  • This paper deals with improvements to the special protection schemes (SPS) which have been applied to the low probability and high impact contingencies in the Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) system since 2004. Among them, the SPS for voltage instability in the Seoul metropolitan area is considered in this paper, and is a form of event-based undervoltage load shedding with a single-step scheme. Simulation results based upon a recent event that occurred on 765kV lines show that the current setting values of the SPS have to be revised and enhanced. In addition, by applying response-based multi-step undervoltage load shedding (UVLS) schemes to severe contingencies in the system, more effective results than those of the existing single-step SPS can be obtained. Centralized and distributed UVLS schemes are considered in the simulation. ULTC-based load recovery models and over excitation limiters (OXL) for the KEPCO system are also included in the long-term voltage instability studies.
