Burn severity analysis using satellite imagery has high capabilities for research and management in inaccessible areas. We extracted the forest fire area of the DMZ (Demilitarized Zone) in the western Imjin Estuary which is restricted to access due to the confrontation between South and North Korea. Then we analyzed the forest fire severity and recoverability using atmospheric corrected Surface Reflectance Level-2 data collected from Landsat-8 OLI (Operational Land Imagery) / TIRS (Thermal Infrared Sensor). Normalized Burn Ratio (NBR), differenced NBR (dNBR), and Relative dNBR (RdNBR) were analyzed based on changes in the spectral pattern of satellite images to estimate burn severity area and intensity. Also, we evaluated the recoverability after a forest fire using a land cover map which is constructed from the NBR, dNBR, and RdNBR analyzed results. The results of dNBR and RdNBR analysis for the six years (during May 30, 2014 - May 30, 2020) showed that the intensity of monthly burn severity was affected by seasonal changes after the outbreak and the intensity of annual burn severity gradually decreased after the fire events. The regrowth of vegetation was detected in most of the affected areas for three years (until May 2020) after the forest fire reoccurred in May 2017. The monthly recoverability (from April 2014 to December 2015) of forests and grass fields was increased and decreased per month depending on the vegetation growth rate of each season. In the case of annual recoverability, the growth of forest and grass field was reset caused by the recurrence of a forest fire in 2017, then gradually recovered with grass fields from 2017 to 2020. We confirmed that remote sensing was effectively applied to research of the burn severity and recoverability in the DMZ. This study would also provide implications for the management and construction statistics database of the forest fire in the DMZ.

This paper is concerned with how to utilize kinematic redundancy to reconstruct the inverse kinematic solution which is not attainable due to hardware limitations. By analyzing the error due to hardware limitations, we are to show that the recoverability of limitation reduces to the solvability of a reconstruction equation under the feasibility condition. It will be next shown that the reconstruction equation is solvable if the configuration is not a joint-limit singularity. The reconstruction method will be proposed based on the geometrical analysis of recoverability of hardware limitations. The method has the feature that no task motion error is induced by the hardware limitations while minimizing a possible null motion error, under the recoverability assumed.
Survivability assessments and vulnerability reductions are required in warship design. A warship's survivability is assessed by its susceptibility, vulnerability, and recoverability. In this paper, an integrated survivability assessment for a warship subjected to multiple hits is introduced. The methodology aims at integrating a survivability assessment into an early stage of warship design. The hull surface is idealized using typical geometries for RCS (Radar Cross Section) detection probability and susceptibility. The Vulnerability is evaluated by using the shot-line. The recoverability is estimated using a survival time analysis. This enables the variation of survivability to be assessed. Several parameters may be varied to determine their effects on the survivability. The susceptibility is assessed by the probability of detecting the radar cross section of the subject and the probability of being hit based on a probability density function. The vulnerability is assessed by the kill probability based on the vulnerable area of critical components, according to the component's layout and redundancy. Recoverability is assessed by the recovery time for damaged critical components.
For the failure diagnosis of industrial system like various manufacturing systems, power plants and etc, many failure diagnosis approaches are considered. Here we are focus on the DES approach for failure diagnosis. We treats of failure recovery problem that is euly not mentioned in DES approach. The procedure to design a recoverable diagnoser is presented. And the recoverability, necessary and sufficient condition fur recoverability are defined. Then we make the high-level diagnoser to reduce the state size of recoverable diagnsoer. Finally, a pump-valve system example is presented.
Recently, new keywords such as "Resilience" and "Repairability" have been discussed from the perspective of the sustainability of damaged structures after a severe disaster. To evaluate the repairability and recovery of structures, it is necessary to establish an analytical method that can simulate the behavior of repaired structures. Furthermore, it is desirable to establish an evaluation method for the structural performance of repaired structures. This study investigates the repairability and recovery of steel members that are damaged by local buckling or cracks. This paper suggests a simple analytical model for repaired steel members, in order to simulate the inelastic behavior and evaluate the recoverability of the structural performance. There is good agreement between the analytical results and the test results. The proposed analytical method and model can effectively evaluate the recoverability.
It is important to assess and improve the warship survivability for the weapon threats which have a critical effect on warship. The survivability of the warship is defined as the capability of a warship to avoid or withstand a man-made hostile environment. The survivability of the warship consists of three categories (Susceptibility, Vulnerability and Recoverability). Firstly, the susceptibility is defined as the inability of a warship to avoid radars, guns, missiles and etc. Secondly, the vulnerability is defined as the inability of a warship to withstand the man-made hostile environment. Finally, the recoverability is defined as the ability of a warship to recover the damaged components and systems. Among them, this paper has described the vulnerability assessment for the hypothetical system which is composed of critical components. Also, the procedure which is suggested to calculate the vulnerable probability of the damaged warship is based on the Vulnerable Area Method.
It should be primarily aimed to increase survivability consisting of susceptibility, vulnerability and recoverability of naval vessels including ship hull, armament system as well as crews from the design stage to practical operations. With this in mind, swift and efficient actions should be executed on the basis of accurate calculations for the recoverability of damaged vessels. In this paper, it is established how the damage control system of naval vessels is embodied through step-by-step processes intending to cope with various damaged situations that may possibly occur during real operations. It is validated that this system has the applicability to naval vessels through the case study of the battle ship which has been damaged during the operation.
