  • We have developed the digital polysomnograph system to enhance the manual sleep study. This system is composed of host PC and target board. The host computer is IBM-PC Pentium 133 MHz and the target board is PC31 (processor type: TMS320C31). These two Processors communicate with each other by dualport RAM. Target board acquire 16 channel sleep signals from the Polysomnographic system (GRASS model 78, USA) and digitize them. We used high resolution monitor$(1600{\times}1280)$ to simulate the paper-recording quality of polysomnographic signal. We also implemented the GUI based polysomnographic staging program on the windows environment. Clinicians can score the sleep stage, and edit and mark the event efficiently. Finally it can support making patient database.

  • Make-up illustration is a field of creativity with visible creative and artistic values; its ultimate functions include communication of information, artistic expression, and recording. Establishing the make-up illustration education environment for the twenty-first century, there is an urgent need for research and development of professional curricula for basic art education and illustration education. It is extremely important for educators and institutions teaching make-up illustration to recognize that training of highly creative and professional beau designers through systematic educational structures is the ultimate foundation for enhancing competitiveness of the beauty industry despite the present reality that there are insufficient studies and publications on beauty illustration and that there is lack of illustration lecturers and artists equipped with professional beauty knowledge. Therefore, this study was conducted to research and analyze offering of illustration subjects by 160 beauty-related vocational schools and 16 4-year undergraduate colleges in the make-up field, which is the field with most creative art activities among the three representative beauty majors, namely make-up, hair, and skin. Education of make-up illustration must not remain as simple short-term education. The curricula must be specialized for providing solid foundation of basic majors. In terms of education content, strong emphases must be made for original and creative mark-up designs as well as purposes, functions, and necessity of make-up design and illustration. The curricula must include systematic, logical and artistic elements. Through the course of this study, which researched, analyzed and proposed measures for education content of make-up illustration, it was found that make-up illustration is the most appropriate subject that fulfills both the ultimate education objectives of beauty colleges and the demand by the society for beauty professionals. It is hoped that make-up illustration is emphasized and recognized for its importance and necessity as an education subject so that similar basic major subjects will further be researched and developed for specialized education.

  • We have tried to enhance the density of the near-field optical memory and to improve the recording/readout speed. The current optical memory has the limitation in both density and speed. This barrier due to the far-field nature can be overcome by the use of the near-field$^{(1)}$ . The optical data storage density can be increased by reducing the size of the nanometric aperture where the near-field is obtained. To fabricate the aperture in precise dimension, we applied the orientation-dependent / anisotropic etching property of crystal Si often employed in the field of MEMS$^{(2)}$ . And so we fabricated the 10$\times$10 aperture array. This array will be also the indispensable part for speeding up. One will see the possibility of the multi-tracking pickup in the phase changing type memory through this array$^{(3)}$ . This aperture array will be expected to write the bit-mark whose size is about 100nm. We will show the recent result obtained. (omitted)

  • The purposes of this study were to arrange and analyze the Oriental Mode in 20th century fashion and to clarify that Oriental dress and its ornaments appearing as the main subject of Occident fashion gradually The results were as follows : First, Oriental Mode in 1900-1950s was prescribed as the 'Orientalism' to be expressed Occidental imperialistic viewpoint. Therefore, the Orient was used as the simple recording mark of the imperialism product or commercial motive and it was reflected in fashion. Second, it was explained in 1960-1970s as the 'Folklore Orientalism' that focus was moved into the folklore costume of Orient. Third, in 1980s, 'Ethnic' was conspicuous that reflected the traditional costume in the area of non-christianity. Especially, it was the decade that the Middle East attracted attention. Fourth, Oriental Mode in 1990s appeared as the 'Fusion' that Oriental and Occidental elements were mixed and compromised on equal terms. Fifth, it was expressed as a word 'Zen' that had natural fiber, moderate color and silhouette to be most basic and concise about human body at the end of 1990s. This study could confirm that the center of fashion was being converted into the Orient gradually. This may be understood as the pluralistic culture phenomenon. Namely, eclectic principle to recognize mutual style and individualistic nature and to utilize and mix was made, and this brought the conversion into Oriental sense of value.

  • MP3 is one of the most widely used file formats for encoding and representing audio data. One of the reasons for this popularity is their significant ability to reduce audio file sizes in comparison to other encoding techniques. Additionally, other reasons also include ease of implementation, its availability and good technical support. Steganography is the art of shielding the communication between two parties from the eyes of attackers. In steganography, a secret message in the form of a copyright mark, concealed communication, or serial number can be embedded in an innocuous file (e.g., computer code, video film, or audio recording), making it impossible for the wrong party to access the hidden message during the exchange of data. This paper describes a new steganography algorithm for encoding secret messages in MP3 audio files using an improved least significant bit (LSB) technique with high embedding capacity. Test results obtained shows that the efficiency of this technique is higher compared to other LSB techniques.

  • To assess the accuracy of blood pressure measurement in general hospital nurses, 276 nurses at four hospital in Kyungju city and Pohang city were observed during the study period 20 December 1998 to 29 December 1998. The nurses measuring the blood pressure of simulated patient's were checked by the researcher or 20 items, that are recommended for consideration when doing a blood pressure measurement. Of the six items in the preparation step for measuring blood pressure, the accuracy of 'patients shouldn't talk during the procedure' had the lowest frequency(27.1%) and the other five items were above 80%. Of the ten items on blood pressure measuring technique, the accuracy of the frequency for 'inflating the cuff until the radial or brachial artery pulse is no longer palpable and then adding 30mmHg' was 0%, 'waiting $30{\sim}60$ seconds before reinflating the cuff' was alse 0%, 'rapidly deflating the cuff', 0.3%, 'rapidly and steadily inflating the cuff to the maximal level as per above-mentioned initial systolic pressure assessment step', 0.7%, 'reading the pressure to the nearest 2mmHg mark on the manometer', 10.8%, the remaining items were above 70%. Of the four items on blood pressure recording, the accuracy of 'recording the cuff size' had a frequency of 0.3%, 'recording the patient's position such as sitting, standing or lying position', 10.8%, 'recording the arm or leg which was used for measuring the blood pressure', 53.6%, and 'recording systolic/diastolic pressure', 100%. The variables significantly related to the accuracy of the blood pressure measurement were age, career position at hospital, and qualification education for blood pressure measurement(p<0.01). In the multiple regression analysis, position and qualification education were significant variables(p<0.01). In conclusion, the accuracy of blood pressure measurement was very low, thus, qualification education for blood pressure measurement should be done immediately to improve the accuracy of measurement by nurses in general hospitals.

  • The purpose of this study was to compare the maganitude of the discrepancies of the mounting errors in according to the states of dentitions, and to the superoinferior, anteroposterior, and rightleft driecetions. GROUP I. : Fourteen patients 22 to 26 years of age with a full complement of teeth, were used in the study. The criteria fro patient selection were a complete dentition, sparse restorarive treatment, and adequate posterior and anterior occlusan stops. And they had no sign and sympton at TMG area. GROUPII. : Eigth patients 37 to 62 years of age with bilateral free ends. The criteria for patient selection were Kennedy classification class 1 cases, and adequate posterior and anterior stops. And the opposite dentitions were a full complement of teeth. Irreversible hydrocolloid impresiion of each arch was taken of each patient. These were immediatel poured in stone and mounted on a Denar Mark II. Articulator with the arbitrary slidematic face-bow. With hand articulation th e mandibular cast was mounted to the maxillary cast in centric occlusion. Five types of interocclusal records were taken of each patient : (1) aluwax (2) baseplate wax; (3) znic oxide-eugenol pasts; (4) polyether (Ramitec); (5) modeling compound. All measurement of the five selected recording materials were compared with those of the hand-articulated full arch models in centric occlusion or maximum interdigitation. The results were as follows; 1. There were statistical differences in amount of devitation in according to the materials and the states of dentition. The amount of deviation of compound was the largest. 2. There were statistical differences in amount of deviation in complete dentition at all directions. The amount of diviation of compound was the largest. And at the right-left direction the amount of znic oxide-eugenol paste was larger than that of baseplate wax. 3. There was a statistical difference in amount of diviations in partial edentulous dentition at the superoinferior direction. The amount of deviation of compound was larger than that of znic oxide-eugenol paste. 4. There was as statistical difference in amount of deviations in partial edentulous dentition at the right-left direction. The amount of deviation of baseplate wax was larger that tnat of polyether. 5. There was not a statistical difference in amount of diviation in partial edentulous dentition at the anteroposterior direction.

  • Readout signal of high density DVD-RAM disk output was simulated to analyze the effect of crosserase and crosstalk to the readout signal which is one of the main difficulties to realize high density DVD-RAM system having single side recording density of 4.7 G13 and 15 G13 media. Laser beam intensity impinged on the disk was approximated as Gaussian and recorded marks were assumed elliptical and the readout signal was calculated as a two dimensional convolution of laser beam pattern and recored mark pattern. From the readout signal obtained by varying crosserase ratio, carrier levels with period of 3T to 11 T were calculated and compared. Jitter due to crosserase and crosstalk was calculated and compared using 1,000 random marks having 3T to 11T period. The results showed that the jitter due to crosserase turned out to be smaller than the jitter due to crosstalk.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyse the problems of 'Science Inquiry Experiment Contest(SIEC)' which was one of 8 programs of 'The 2nd Student Science Inquiry Olympic Meet(SSIOM)'. The results and conclusions of this study were as follows: 1. It needs to reconsider the role of practical work within science experiment because practical work skills form one of the mainstays in current science. But the assessment of students' laboratory skills in the contest was made little account of. It is necessary to remind of what it means to be 'good at science'. There are two aspects: knowing and doing. Both are important and, in certain respects, quite distinct. Doing science is more of a craft activity, relying more on craft skill and tacit knowledge than on the conscious application of explicit knowledge. Doing science is also divided into two aspects, 'process' and 'skill' by many science educators. 2. The report's and checklist's assessment items were overlapped. Therefore it was suggested that the checklist assessment items were set limit to the students' acts which can't be found in reports. It is important to identify those activities which produce a permanent assessable product, and those which do not. Skills connected with recording and reporting are likely to produce permanent evidence which can be evaluated after the experiment. Those connected with manipulative skills involving processes are more ephemeral and need to be assessed as they occur. The division of student's experimental skills will contribute to the accurate assess of student's scientific inquiry experimental ability. 3. There was a wide difference among the scores of one participant recorded by three evaluators. This means that there was no concrete discussion among the evaluators before the contest. Despite the items of the checklists were set by preparers of the contest experiments, the concrete discussions before the contest were necessary because students' experimental acts were very diverse. There is a variety of scientific skills. So it is necessary to assess the performance of individual students in a range of skills. But the most of the difficulties in the assessment of skills arise from the interaction between measurement and the use. To overcome the difficulties, not only must the mark needed for each skill be recorded, something which all examination groups obviously need, but also a description of the work that the student did when the skill was assessed must also be given, and not all groups need this. Fuller details must also be available for the purposes of moderation. This is a requirement for all students that there must be provision for samples of any end-product or other tangible form of evidence of candidates' work to be submitted for inspection. This is rather important if one is to be as fair as possible to students because, not only can this work be made available to moderators if necessary, but also it can be used to help in arriving at common standards among several evaluators, and in ensuring consistent standards from one evaluator over the assessment period. This need arises because there are problems associated with assessing different students on the same skill in different activities. 4. Most of the students' reports were assessed intuitively by the evaluators despite the assessment items were established concretely by preparers of the experiment. This result means that the evaluators were new to grasp the essence of the established assessment items of the experiment report and that the students' assessment scores were short of objectivity. Lastly, there are suggestions from the results and the conclusions. The students' experimental acts which were difficult to observe because they occur in a flash and which can be easily imitated should be excluded from the assessment items. Evaluators are likely to miss the time to observe the acts, and the students who are assessed later have more opportunity to practise the skill which is being assessed. It is necessary to be aware of these problems and try to reduce their influence or remove them. The skills and processes analysis has made a very useful checklist for scientific inquiry experiment assessment. But in itself it is of little value. It must be seen alongside the other vital attributes needed in the making of a good scientist, the affective aspects of commitment and confidence, the personal insights which come both through formal and informal learning, and the tacit knowledge that comes through experience, both structured and acquired in play. These four aspects must be continually interacting, in a flexible and individualistic way, throughout the scientific education of students. An increasing ability to be good at science, to be good at doing investigational practical work, will be gained through continually, successively, but often unpredictably, developing more experience, developing more insights, developing more skills, and producing more confidence and commitment.
