  • Pseudolithoderma subextensum is a crustose brown algal species in the family Lithodermataceae and order Sphacelariales. This species is distributed in several regions across the world including, Europe, Western Atlantic, Middle East and Asia (Hong Kong and Japan). Recent floristic surveys along the Korean coastal shores have revealed new records of encrusting brown algae. In this study, we report P. subextensum as a new record from Korea. Morpho-anatomical and molecular studies on Ralfsia-like specimens from Korea identified some of them as P. subextensum. Pseudolithoderma subextensum is characterized by dark chestnut brown crust with a hypothallial basal layer and erect perithallial filaments, tufts of hairs occasionally arising from the basal layer, several discoid shaped chloroplasts per cell, plurangia arising terminally on erect filaments and without sterile cells, and unangia arising terminally on erect filaments, elongated cylindrical and without paraphyses. Phylogenetic analyses based on COI-5P (545bp) reveal that P. subextensum are nested within Lithodermataceae and forms the same clade with P. roscoffense. The genetic divergences for COI-5P between them is 24.5%.

  • It's needed for the archivists to design a flexible and stable ERMS(Electronic Records Management System) which can ingest and store records through a consistent way and let users search and use records easily what they want. The basis of the design for ERMS are the conceptual composition and the logical and physical structure of the records when they are stored and managed in the ERMS. This paper explains the process of defining components and designing structure of electronic records using 3-layered approaches which consist of conceptual, logical and physical layer and shows advantages of this approaches. After benchmarking the information models of OAIS which is a reference model for the long-term preservation of digital information objects, this paper applies the model of AIP to a record as a 'Record AIP' and discusses the composition and structure of it. It's a critical task to identify mandatory or optional metadata groups which consists of the 'Record AIP's in the conceptual layer. This paper emphases that the metadata group related to services for the record information to users is required as a result of benchmarking OAIS information models. Various issues about the structure of 'Record AIP's are discussed according to the kind of preservation strategy such as migration or emulation and whether the encapsulation of records is required or not in the logical layer.

  • Oncaea prendeli Shmeleva, 1966 is redescribed here based on a specimen collected using a fine-mesh net in the epipelagic layer in the south sea of Jeju Island, Korea. The Korean specimen is generally similar to Mediterranean specimens in terms of morphological characteristics, but it shows a few minor differences in a slightly larger length-to-width ratio for the distal endopod segment of the antenna, a relatively shorter caudal seta IV, and additional ornamentation on the maxillule and maxilla. This species is distinguishable from the most similar congeneric species, O. tregoubovi Shmeleva, 1968, and three species of the genus Spinoncaea Böttger-Schnack, 2003 by the distal and lateral armature of the antenna, ornamentation on the female maxilliped, spine number on the endopod of leg 2, and proportional length of setae on the caudal ramus. Moreover, spine lengths on the exopods of legs 2-4 are proposed as new morphological characters for the identification of congeners. This is the first record of O. prendeli in Korean waters.

  • Honsangui (celestial globe) which is a water-hammering method astronomical clock is recorded in "Juhaesuyong" which is Volume VI of supplement from "Damheonseo", written by Hong Dae-Yong (1731~1783). We made out the conceptual design of Hong Dae-Yong's Honsangui through the study on its structure and working mechanism. Honsangui consist of three rings and two layers, the structure of rings which correspond to outer layer is similar to his own Tongcheonui (armillary sphere) which is a kind of armillary sphere. Honsang sphere which correspond to inner layer depicts constellations and milky way and two beads hang on it as Sun and Moon respectively for realize the celestial motion. Tongcheonui is operated by the pendulum power but Honsangui is operated by water-hammering method mechanism. This Honsangui's working mechanism is the traditional way of Joseon and it was simplified the working mechanism of Shui y$\ddot{u}$n i hsiang t'ai which is a representative astronomical clock of China. This record of Honsangui is the only historical record about the water-hammering method working mechanism of Joseon Era and it provide the study of water-hammering method mechanism with a vital clue.

  • JFET's with gate lengths ranging from 1$\mu$m to 8.3$\mu$m are successfully fabricated on InP substrate where the long haul (1.3$\mu$m~8.3$\mu$m) OEIC's(OptoElectronic Integrated Circuits) have been made. The pn junction of InP JFET's is made by co-implantation and RTA process. JFET's have etched-mesa-gate structure and the maximum gm larger than 90mS/mm was measured and this is the highest record in JFET's of such structure without S/D n$^{+}$ ion implantation. To maintain maximum g$_m$ should be well controlled the overetch of n-layer which inevitably occurs during etching off the unused p-layer. The I-V characteristic is checked during p-layer etch, for this purpose. A dc voltage gain of 11 is obtained from a preamplifier circuit thus fabricated.

  • We investigated subsurface structures of the Bransfield Basin, the Antarctic with AUH (Autonomous Underwater Hydrophne) which was designed to record abyssal T-waves generated from submarine earthquakes. The data obtained from a multi-channel seismic survey and an AUH were used for this study. A seismic reflection method was applied to the multi-channel seismic survey data in order to identify bathymetry and sedimentary structures, and the signals recorded in the AUH were used to obtain deep structures as we applied a seismic refraction method. Even though we couldn’t investigate deeper and detailed structure in study area because of lack of Airgun’s capacity, the AUH showed possibilities for being used for a marine seismic survey. From this experiment, we decided the upper and lower sediment layer velocities, detected irregular basement topography probably caused by submarine volcanic/magmatic activities, and retrieved the velocity of the basement and the depth of the sediment layer/basement boundary.

  • Data on egg number from time of first lay to 71 week of age were obtained from samples of single comb white leghorn breeder and brown layer breeder populations which were raised at manny breeding Co. These data were used to estimate the heritabilities of age at sexual maturity, early egg number, residual egg number and annual egg number. Also, the genetic correlation coefficients between these traits were estimated and selection efficiencies of each segment in early part record were estimated by use of the heritabilities and generic correlations. The estimated heritabilities and standard errors in two lines(W and B) were $0.30\pm0.07$ and $0.33\pm0.08$ at early records, $0.19\pm0.06$ and $0.18\pm$0.05 at residual records and $0.37\pm0.09$ and $0.49\pm0.10$ at time of first lay. Those at annual records were $0.24\pm0.06$ equally. The estimated correlation coefficients and standard errors between early record and annual record were $0.76\pm0.08$ and $0.77\pm0.07$. Those between early record and residual record were $0.46\pm0.15$ and $0.39\pm0.16$ respectively. At improving annual egg production per year, selection based on early part record(SM to 40 week of age) would be 69% more efficient than on annual record in line W and 80% more efficient than on annual record in line B. But, if it were considered that egg weight decreased due to sexual maturity and cost for data collection, use of selected segment from 35~40week of age in line W and from 31~40 week of age in line B would be desired in spite of a. small loss in relative selection efficiency. The generation interval would not be shortened.

  • Purpose: To make a focal trough (image layer) for an average maxillary dental arch of 6-year-old korean in panoramic radiography. Materials and Methods : Phantom for the maxillary dental arch was designed using intercanine width, intermolar width, tooth size, and interdental spacing to record the data of 6-year-old child. The characteristics of pre-corrected panoramic machine (for adult) was evaluated using the phantom, resolution test pattern for margin of the image layer, and metal ball for the center of the image layer. Panoramic image layer of the child was developed by means of decreasing the speed of film-cassette and positioning the phantom backwards, and then the characteristics of post-corrected panoramic machine (for child) were reevaluated. Results: At post-corrected panoramic image layer, beam projection angles at all interdental areas increased for about 2.6-3.8°, the position of the image layer was shifted toward the rotation center for about 2.5 mm at the deciduous central incisior area. The width of image layer decreased at all areas. Conclusion : Increased beam projection angle will reduce the disadvantage of tooth overlap, and the same form between the center of the image layer and dental arch will improve image resolution.
