  • Purpose: To determine whether large rectal volume on planning computed tomography (CT) results in lower tumor regression grade (TRG) after neoadjuvant concurrent chemoradiotherapy (CCRT) in rectal cancer patients. Materials and Methods: We reviewed medical records of 113 patients treated with surgery following neoadjuvant CCRT for rectal cancer between January and December 2012. Rectal volume was contoured on axial images in which gross tumor volume was included. Average axial rectal area (ARA) was defined as rectal volume divided by longitudinal tumor length. The impact of rectal volume and ARA on TRG was assessed. Results: Average rectal volume and ARA were 11.3 mL and $2.9cm^2$. After completion of neoadjuvant CCRT in 113 patients, pathologic results revealed total regression (TRG 4) in 28 patients (25%), good regression (TRG 3) in 25 patients (22%), moderate regression (TRG 2) in 34 patients (30%), minor regression (TRG 1) in 24 patients (21%), and no regression (TRG0) in 2 patients (2%). No difference of rectal volume and ARA was found between each TRG groups. Linear correlation existed between rectal volume and TRG (p = 0.036) but not between ARA and TRG (p = 0.058). Conclusion: Rectal volume on planning CT has no significance on TRG in patients receiving neoadjuvant CCRT for rectal cancer. These results indicate that maintaining minimal rectal volume before each treatment may not be necessary.

  • Several multi-hop applications developed for vehicular ad hoc networks use broadcast as a means to either discover nearby neighbors or disseminate useful traffic information to othet vehicles located within a certain geographical area. However, the conventional broadcast mechanism may lead to the so-called broadcast storm problem, a scenario in which there is a high level of contention and collision at the link layer due to an excessive number of broadcast packets. To solve broadcast storm problem, we propose an RPB-MACn-based LV-CAST that is a vehicular broadcast algorithm for disseminating safety-related emergency message. The proposed LV-CAST identifies the last node within transmission range by computing the distance extending on 1 hop from the sending node of an emergency message to the next node of receiving node of the emergency message, and the last node only re-broadcasts the emergency message. The performance of LV-CAST is evaluated through simulation and compared with other message dissemination algorithms.

  • Mobile Ad hoc NETworks (MANETs) refer to autonomous networks in which wireless data communications are established between multiple nodes in a given coverage area without a base station or centralized administration. Because of node mobility and limited battery life, the network topology may changes frequently. Selecting the most reliable path during route discovery process is important to improve performance in ad hoc networks. In this paper, an enhanced routing protocol based on AODV(Ad hoc On-demand Distance Vector routing) by monitoring variation of receiving signal strength is proposed. New metric function that consists of node mobility and hops of path is used for routing decision. For preventing route failure by node movement during data transmission, a new route maintenance named as LRC (Local Route Change) is presented. If the node movement is detected, the routing agent switches path to its neighbor node in LRC. Simulation results show that the performance of the proposed routing scheme is superior to previous AODY protocol.

  • As broadcasting is the process that a node sends a packet to all nodes in the network. it is basic process used for discovering of a routes to a node and disseminating of control information message in Mobile Ad hoc NETwork (MANET). In this paper, we propose dynamically adjusted probabilistic mechanism based on distance ratio and node density for broadcasting in MANETs. The distance ratio can be calculated as the ratio of the radio strength length to the distance from sender of a node, and node density can be get from 1-hop nodes of neighbours. A mobile node receiving broadcast packets determines the probability of rebroadcasting considering distance ratio and node density of itself. Rebroadcast probability will be set as low value to a node which is located in nearby area of sender and has high 1-hop node density, So it reduces packets transmission caused by the early die-out of rebroadcast packets. Compared with the simple flooding and fixed probabilistic flooding by simulation, our approach shows better performances results. Proposed algorithm can reduce the rebroadcast packet delivery more than 30% without scanting reachability, where as it shows up to 96% reachability compared with flooding.

  • Objective: This experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of crude glycerin from waste vegetable oil (CGWVO) on performance, carcass traits, meat quality, and muscle chemical composition. Methods: Twenty-four crossbred (Thai Native${\times}$Anglo Nubian) uncastrated male goats ($16.8{\pm}0.46kg$ body weight [BW]) were assigned to a completely randomized design and subjected to four experimental diets containing 0%, 2%, 4%, and 6% of CGWVO (63.42% of glycerol and 47.78% of crude fat) on a dry matter (DM) basis. The diets were offered ad libitum as total mixed rations twice daily. The feed intake, feeding behavior, growth performance, carcass and meat traits, and muscle chemical composition were evaluated. Results: Based on this experiment, there were significant differences (p>0.05) among groups regarding DM intake, growth performance, and carcass traits where goats receiving 6% of CGWVO had lower daily DM intake, growth performance, and carcass traits than those fed on 0%, 2%, and 4% of CGWVO. There were no effects of CGWVO on carcass length, carcass width, Longissimus muscle (LM) area, Warner-Bratzler shear force, pH and color of LM at 45 min after slaughter, as well as on other carcass cut and muscle chemical composition. Conclusion: In conclusion, the addition of up to 4% of DM in the diets for crossbred finishing goats seems to be the most interesting strategy, since it promotes greatest animal performance. Moreover, this study was a suitable approach to exploit the use of biodiesel production from waste vegetable oil for goat production.

  • Context: Tobacco is the single largest cause of preventable death among adults globally, as it is in India. Despite this alarming situation, there is very minimal inclusion of tobacco in formal education systems, including the medical discipline, in India. Aims: The present study analyzed the extent of integration of tobacco control related content in Masters of Public Health (MPH) curricula of various institutes in India. Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted during January 2011 to May 2011 in all colleges of the country offering a MPH course. The colleges were enlisted using various internet search engines (Google Scholar, Pubmed, Medline), other published literature and snowball technique. A 50 items semi-structured questionnaire was designed, posted and e-mailed (followed by hard copy) to the Person-In-Charge of the MPH program. Statistical Analysis: Descriptive statistics were used to profile the tobacco control content in respective institutions. All data entry and analysis was conducted using SPSS (version 16) for windows. Results: The duration of the MPH course was two years in all institutes and had accreditation with some affiliated body. Tobacco related diseases were covered under 'non communicable diseases' section by every institute. However, a mere 41.4% of institute's had faculty who had received specialized training in tobacco control. More coverage was given to health risks and effects of smoking as compared to cessation interventions (5 A's), symptoms of withdrawal and pharmacological treatments. Only 25% of institutes were in process of introducing tobacco courses into their curricula. Lack of expertise and administrative barriers were cited as perceived major problems in inclusion of tobacco control in MPH curricula. Conclusions: It can be concluded that tobacco control is not receiving adequate attention in public health curricula in India. There is a need for coordinated efforts in the area of tobacco control so as to reduce morbidity and mortality from tobacco induced diseases.

  • The paper is focused on not only the system characteristics of BeiDou, China GNSS, but also the statistic analysis based on its real data received from the BeiDou's satellite navigation messages. The 6-7 satellites, which are more than minimum number of 4 satellites to obtain 3-D position, are available for receiving navigation signal in stable case. It was also verified that the available satellites are deviated to specific coordinate and their signals are still unstable. Only as long as the received signal with the high stability, the precision of the BeiDou navigation satellite navigation system was identified with 5m level in deviation. The Beidou system is expected to be rising as a darkhorse in the future of the global satellite navigation area.

  • RFID based applications that combine radar techniques to obtain the location and the ID of a tag have widely been investigated. In this paper, we analyze a recently proposed RFID system that can extract the tag IDs and their velocities using signals transmitted from the tag attached moving objects and verify its performance. In the proposed system, a beacon transmits triggering signal at regular intervals into a monitoring area and the tag receiving the triggering signal backscatters the FMCW(frequency modulation continuous wave) signal modulated by the tag ID. The reader system demodulates this FMCW signal using predefined two reference signals to obtain not only the tag ID but its velocity. In this paper, we show that the proposed system works properly and analyze the degree of performance degradation in cases when the synchronization error between the transmitting signal and the reference signal occurs, and even when sampling rate is lowered for implementation purpose. Finally, the analytical results are verified by simulation.

  • PC based DVR replaces existing analog CCTV system therefore expands the field and DVR is used for monitoring and security so it requires exact time(clock). But DVR system can't maintains exact clock causing several reasons. For providing exact time information we should use additional system. For economical and usable environment, using GPS system is most suitable suggested solution than use WAN(Wide Area Network). Therefore in this paper for analysis the result of PC based DVR's system clock using GPS system, 1) clock source receiving module that receives the clock form GPS satellite and 2) GPSW H/W units that provide clock source to PC Based DVR 3)Daemon software named PCSW which adjust PC's clock so system could reduced the clock difference with UTC clock and measured the result.

  • A Distributed Translator Network(DTxR) is a cost-effective and frequency-effective method which can use existing transmission utilities and can be constructed in a shorter time as compared with Multiple Frequency Network(MFN) or Single Frequency Network(SFN) using On Channel Repeater(OCR). In order to verify the feasibility of DTxR, this field test was done in 30 points of north-west area in Seoul using 3rd, 5th, and 6th generation DIV receivers. Electric field strength, noise margin and ease of reception were measured and subjective evaluation of video quality was done in these points during the field test. With the test result, an improvement of receiving quality was obtained and an ease of reception was increased in case of the 5th. and 6th. receiver. From the results, we conclude that DTxR is a feasible method in DIV networks.
