  • The development of adhesive dentistry has allowed that the crown fragment reattachment can be another option in the treatment of crown fracture. However, additional crown lengthening procedure or extrusion of the tooth may be necessary in the treatment of crown root fracture because subgingival fracture line in close proximity to the alveolar bone leads to challenges for restorative procedure and the violation of the biologic width. This case report presents a modified crown fragment reattachment technique of crown root fracture with pulp exposure, which was done without additional crown lengthening procedures. After the endodontic treatment, the patient was treated using a post insertion and the fragment reattachment technique, which made it possible to preserve the space for the biologic width and maintain a dry surgical field for adequate adhesion through the modification of the fractured coronal fragment. Since a coronal fracture was occurred and reattached afterward, it was observed that the coronal fragment was well maintained without the additional loss of periodontal attachment through 2-year follow up.

  • This study aimed to evaluate the long-term outcomes of teeth treated with reattachment technique in children and adolescents. Twenty seven permanent anterior teeth from 21 patients treated with fragment reattachment were evaluated. Clinical photos and medical records were used to assess treatment outcomes. Effect of pulp treatment and the ratio of fragment on success rate were statistically analyzed. Detachment of fragment was observed in 17 teeth, and their duration of retention was 21.41 ± 23.39 months. Repeated trauma was found to be the most frequent causes of failure. Pulp treatment before reattachment did not affect the success rate (p > 0.05). The mean ratio of fragment was 0.482 ± 0.147, and the success rate was affected by the ratio of fragment (p = 0.018). The median retention time of the teeth was 72 months if the ratio was under 0.5, and 8 months for that of the others. A significant correlation was found between the ratio of fragment and retention time (p = 0.003). Reattachment can be a predictable treatment option for crown fracture in anterior teeth in children and adolescents when a fracture involves less than 50% of the clinical crown.

  • Four turbulent $k-{\varepsilon}$ models (i.e., standard model, modified models with streamline curvature modification and/or preferential dissipation modification) are applied in order to analyze the turbulent flow of wall-attaching offset jet. For numerical convergence, this paper develops a method of slowly increasing the convective effect induced by skew-velocity in skew-upwind scheme (hereafter called Partial Skewupwind Scheme). Even though the method was simple, it was efficient in view of convergent speed, computer memory storage, programming, etc. The numerical results of all models show good prediction in first order calculations (i.e., reattachment length, mean velocity, pressure), while they show some deviations in ·second order (i.e., kinetic energy and its dissipation rate). Like the previous results obtained by upwind scheme, the streamline curvature modification results in better prediction, while the preferential dissipation modification does not.

  • An experimental study on the flow over the axisymmetric backward-facing step was carried out. The purpose of the present study is to investigate the effect of the boundary layer thickness at the separation point on the reattachment length and to understand the structure of the recirculating flows. Local mean and fluctuating velocity components were measured in the separating and reattaching axisymmetric turbulent boundary layer over the wall of convex cylinder placed in a water tunnel by using 2-color 4-beam fiber optics laser Doppler velocimetry. The study demonstrated that the reattachment length increases with increasing boundary layer thickness. It was also observed that the reverse flow velocity and turbulent kinetic energy decrease with an increase in the momentum thickness at the separation point. The measured velocity field suggests that the boundary layer thickness at the separation can affect definitely on the formation of corner eddy.

  • The effect of periodic blowing and suction of upstream flow on the separated shear flow behind the vertical fence was experimentally investigated. The fence was submerged in the turbulent shear flow and DPIV method was used to measure the instantaneous velocity fields around the fence. Periodic blowing and suction flow was precisely generated by the syringe pump. Spanwise nozzle made 2D planar periodic jet flow in front of the fence and the effect of frequency and maximum jet velocity was studied. From the results, the reattachment length can be reduced by 60% of uncontrolled fence case under the control.

  • The flow and heat transfer characteristics behind a backward facing step located in a vertical channel has been studied. In this study, the numerical prediction has been performed by solving the Navier-Stokes equation and energy equation simultaneously with the SIMPLE algorithm embedied in TEACH code. Local heat flux was measured by using Schlieren Interferometer. The flow visualization was performed using the cylindrical lens and the laser beam that is scattered by the supplied glycerine particles. The velocity and temperature distributions, recirculation region, reattachment length, and local heat flux are obtained under the various parameters to investigate the buoyancy effect on the flow and heat transfer characteristics behind the step.

  • An experimental study for the flow in an axisymmetric cavity of rectangular tube was performed. The pressure and heat transfer coefficient along the side and opposite-walls of the cavity were measured. The cavity length was varied from 80mm to infinity during the experiment. As the result of this study, it was found that as the length of cavity increased beyond the reattachment point, the heat transfer coefficient decreased. It was also found that the mean heat transfer coefficient became maximum near the reattachment point.

  • From surface flow visualization on a MIRA notchback reference model using oil flow technique, the topology of the singular points of the skin friction lines are delineated. Separation and reattachment lines at the front screen, at the A-pillar, at the C-pillar and on the rear side of the car including the trunk have been identified. It is worth to mention that two vortices emerging from the top of the trunk coil in the opposite direction as that vortices starting from the C-pillar edge. The positions of the singular points and the separation and reattachment lines and the foci of the vortices provide a sensitive database for validation of CFD-codes

  • The present study is aimed to investigate flow characteristics of Two dimensional backward-facing step by numerical approach. A convection conservative difference scheme based upon SOLA algorithm is used for the solution of the two-dimensional incompressible Navier-Stokes equations to simulate the laminar, transitional and turbulent flow conditions at which the experimental data can be available for the backward-facing step. The twenty kinds of Reynolds number are used for the calculations. In an effort to demonstrate that the reported solutions are dependent on the mesh refinement, computations are performed on seven different meshes of uniformly increasing refinement. Also to investigate the result of inflow dependence, two kinds of the inflow profile are chosen for the laminar flow. As criterion of benchmarking the result of numerical simulation, reattachment length is used for the selected Reynolds numbers.
