The turbulent shear flaw around a surface-mounted vertical wall was investigated using the two-frame PIV(CACTUS 3.1) system. From this study, it is revealed that at least 500 instantaneous velocity field data are required for ensemble average to get reliable turbulence statistics, but only 200 field data are sufficient for the time-averaged mean velocity information The flow has an unsteady recirculation region post vertical wall with bottom gap, followed by a slow relaxation to the fiat-plate boundary layer flow. The time-averaged reattachment length estimated from the streamline distribution is about x/H=3H. The large eddy structure in the separated shear layer seems to have signification influence on the development of the separated shear layer and the reattachment process.

The wall heat transfer of backward-facing step laminar flows with different Prandtl numbers and a pulsating inlet is investigated by unsteady simulations. The inlet is perturbed by the variation of frequency and amplitude. Temperature-dependent transport properties are adopted. Various characteristics of the wall heat transfer are explained by the variation of the thermal boundary layer. For Pr < 1, the wall heat transfer of temperature-dependent properties is decreased compared to that of constant properties, whereas it increases for Pr < 1. In addition, the wall heat transfer increases depending on the pulsating amplitude. However, the results of frequency variation for St < 0.2 show that the heat transfer is strongly enhanced at a specific frequency. In particular, the increase in the wall heat transfer is strongly related to the root mean square of the fluctuations of the reattachment length.
The turbulent flow with wake, reattachment and recirculation is a very important problem that is related to vehicle dynamics and aerodynamics. The Smagorinsky Model (SM), the Dynamics Subgrid Scale Model (DSM), and the Lagrangian Dynamic Subgrid Scale Model (LDSM) are used to predict the three-dimensional flow field around a bluff body model. The Reynolds number used is 45,000 based on the bulk velocity and the height of the bluff body. The fully developed turbulent flow, which is generated by the driver part, is used for the inlet boundary condition. The Convective boundary condition is imposed on the outlet boundary condition, and the Spalding wall function is used for the wall boundary condition. We compare the results of each model with the results of the PIV measurement. First of all, the LES predicts flow behavior better than the k-$\xi$ turbulence model. When ew compare various LES models, the DSM and the LDSM agree with the PIV experimental data better than the SM in the complex flow, with the separation and the reattachment at the upper front part of th bluff body. But in the rear part of the bluff body, the SM agrees with the PIV experimental results better than them. In this case, the SM predicts overall flow behavior better than the DSM nd the LDSM.
Purpose: It has been reported that the ear perfusion can maintain by a very small pedicle because the ear has good vascularized system. Replantation of an amputated ear with vascular anastmosis, has been reported before and offers the succeessful reconstructive results. But, in this paper we report a case of complete nonmicrosurgical salvage of a nearly amputated ear based on 7 mm-wide small skin pedicle with adjunctive therapies. Methods: A 49-year-old man was referred with a nearly complete detachment of left ear. The blood supply to the ear was maintained exclusively on 7 mm-wide small skin pedicle in the lobule. After we identified the fresh bleeding at the distal margin of the detached ear, we performed the primary repair. At the end of the procedure, the areas of the concha bowl and helical root appeared to be congested. So the immediate postoperative treatment for improving the tissue survival was done with Lipo-Prostaglandin E1 (Eglandin$^{(R)}$) injection, leech apply and antibiotics medications. Results: Assessment of the replanted ear on postoperative day 14 revealed a nearly viable auricle including the helical root. The ear appeared to be entirely healed, with excellent projection and fully restored normal elasticity. Conclusion: We found the complete salvage of a nearly amputated ear based on 7 mm-wide small skin pedicle with adjunctive therapies including Lipo-Prostaglandin E1 (Eglandin$^{(R)}$) injection, leech apply and antibiotics without microsurgery.
The aim of this work is to investigate the effect of atmospheric stability on near-field pollutant dispersion from rooftop emissions of a single cubic building using computational fluid dynamics (CFD). This paper used the shear stress transport (here after SST) k-${\omega}$ model for predicting the flow and pollutant dispersion around an isolated cubic building. CFD simulations were performed with two emission rates and six atmospheric stability conditions. The results of the simulations were compared with the data from wind tunnel experiments and the result of simulations obtained by previous studies in neutral atmospheric condition. The results indicate that the reattachment length on the roof ($X_R$) obtained by computations show good agreement with the experimental results. However, the reattachment length of the rooftop of the building ($X_F$) is greatly overestimated compared to the findings of wind tunnel test. The result also shows that the general distribution of dimensionless concentration given by SST k-${\omega}$ at the side and leeward wall surfaces is similar to that of the experiment. In unstable conditions, the length of the rooftop cavity was decreased. In stable conditions, the horizontal velocity in the lower part around the building was increased and the vertical velocity around the building was decreased. Stratification increased the horizontal cavity length and width near surface and unstable stratification decreased the horizontal cavity length and width near surface. Maintained stability increases the lateral spread of the plume on the leeward surface. The concentration levels close to the ground's surface under stable conditions were higher than under unstable and neutral conditions.
Background This study evaluated the outcomes of a new modified Wies technique for patients with involutional lower eyelid entropion without horizontal eyelid laxity. Methods This case series retrospectively analyzed consecutive patients with entropion who underwent surgery between January 2014 and March 2019 by the same experienced surgeon. Horizontal eyelid laxity, lower eyelid retractor function, and orbicularis muscle overriding were recorded before and after surgery. The recurrence rate and complications were also evaluated. This technique consisted of modified everting sutures combined with reattachment of the lower eyelid retractors to the inferior tarsal plate. Results This new technique was performed on 28 eyes in 25 patients (mean age, 71.0±8.0 years; range, 56-87 years). Nine patients (36%) were women and 16 (64%) were men. Lower lid entropion was present in the right eye in 14 patients (56%), the left eye in eight patients (32%), and both eyes in three patients (12%). The mean follow-up period was 27.3±12.4 months (range, 6-60 months). No intraoperative complications were observed. All patients' symptoms were alleviated. One patient (3.6%) had recurrence after 2 years (success rate, 96.4%). The remaining 27 eyes maintained a satisfactory and comfortable eyelid position. No patients had problems with scarring. Conclusions The approach described herein proved to be safe and feasible in eyes with involutional lower eyelid entropion without horizontal eyelid laxity. These advantages of this procedure include the lack of a conjunctival scar, punctal eversion, and lateral canthal angle deformation. A low recurrence rate and a long interval to recurrence were also observed.

The effect of rotation on the discharge coefficient of orifices with various length-to-diameter ratios and two different inlet corner radii was studied. Length-to-diameter ratios of the orifices range from 0.2 to 10, while the inlet shapes are square edged, or round edges of radius-to-diameter ratio of 0.5. From the experiment, we found that rotational discharge coefficient and Rotation number, when based on ideal exit velocity of the orifice considering momentum transfer from the rotor, describe the effect of rotation very well. In this study, the discharge coefficients of rotating orifices are shown to behave similar to those of the well-known non-rotating orifices. For both rotating and non-rotating orifices, the discharge coefficients increase with the length-to-diameter ratio until a maximum is reached. The flow reattachments in the relatively short orifices are responsible for the increase. The coefficient then decreases with the length-to-diameter ratio due to the friction loss along the orifice bore. The length-to-diameter ratio that yields maximum discharge coefficient, however, increases with the Rotation number because the increased flow-approaching angle requires larger length-to-diameter ratio for complete reattachment. The length-to-diameter ratio for complete reattachment is shorter for round edged orifices than that of square edged orifices by about a unit length-to-diameter ratio.

The objective of the present study is to investigate the characteristics of the dividing flow in the laminar flow region. Using glycerine water solution(wt43%) for Newtonian fluid and the polymer of viscoelastic fluid(500wppm) for non-Newtonian fluid, this research investigates the flow state of the dividing tube in steady laminar flow region of the two dimensional dividing tube by measuring the effect of Reynolds number, dividing angle, and the flow rate ratio on the loss coefficient. In T- and Y-type tubes, the loss coefficients of the Newtonian fluid decreases in constant rate when the Reynolds number is below 100. The effect of the flow rate ratio on the loss coefficients is negligible. But when the Reynolds number is over 100, the loss coefficient with various flow rate ratios approach an asymptotic value. The loss coefficient of the non-Newtonian fluid for different the Reynolds number shows the similar tendency of the Newtonian fluid. And when the Reynolds number is over 300, the loss coefficient is approximately 1.03 regardless of flow rate ratio or the dividing angle. The aspect ratio does hardly influence the reattachment length and the loss coefficient of both Newtonian and non Newtonian fluid. The loss coefficient decreases as the Reynolds number increases. The loss coefficient of Newtonian fluid is larger than that of non-Newtonian fluid.

An experimental study is conducted to investigate the effects of duct corrugation angle on heat/mass transfer characteristics in wavy ducts of a primary surface heat exchanger application. Local heat/mass transfer coefficients on the wavy duct sidewalls are determined by using a naphthalene sublimation technique. The corrugation angles(${\alpha}$) of the wavy ducts are 145$^{\circ}$, 130$^{\circ}$, 115$^{\circ}$ and 100$^{\circ}$. And the Reynolds numbers based on the duct hydraulic diameter vary from 300 to 3,000. The results show that at the low Re(Re $\leq$1000), the secondary vortices called Taylor-Gortler vortices perpendicular to the main flow direction are generated due to effect of duct curvature. By these secondary vortices, high heat/mass transfer regions are formed on both pressure-side and suction-side walls. At the high Re(Re $\geq$ 1000), these secondary flows are vanished with helping flow transition to turbulent flow and the regions which show high heat/mass coefficients by flow reattachment are formed on suction side. As corrugation angle decreases, the local peak Sh induced by Taylor-Gortler vortices increase at Re $\leq$1000. At high Re(Re $\geq$ 1000), by the existence of different kind of secondary flows called Dean vortices, non-uniform Sh distribution appears along spanwise direction at the narrow corrugation angle (${\alpha}$=100$^{\circ}$). Average Sh also increase by the enhanced effect of secondary vortices and flow reattachment. More pumping power (pressure loss) is required with the smaller corrugation angle due to the enhancement of flow instability.
For super long-span bridges, the aerodynamic forces induced by the flow passing the box girder should be considered carefully. And the Reynolds number sensitively of aerodynamic characteristics is one of considerable issue. In the study, a numerical study on the Reynolds number sensitivity of aerodynamic characteristic (flow pattern, pressure distribution and aerodynamic forces) of a twin-box girder were carried out using large eddy simulation (LES) with the dynamic Smagorinsky-Lilly subgrid model. The results show that the aerodynamic characteristics have strong correlation with the Reynolds number. At the leading edge, the flow experiences attachment, departure, and reattachment stages accompanying by the laminar transition into turbulence, causing pressure plateaus to form on the surface, and the pressure plateaus gradually shrinks. Around the gap, attributing that the flow experiences stages of laminar cavity flow, the wake with alternate shedding vortices, and turbulent cavity flow in sequence with an increase in the Reynolds number, the pressures around the gap vary greatly with the Reynold number. At the trailing edge, the pressure gradually recovers as the flow transits to turbulence (the flow undergoes wake instability, shear layer transition-reattachment station), In addition, at relative high Reynolds numbers, the drag force almost does not change, however, the lift force coefficient gradually decreases with an increase in Reynolds number.
