Forty-two single-bearing and 42 twin-bearing mature Angus${\times}$Hereford cows were allocated, seven per cell to 3 replications of 2 stocking rates (3.2 cows/ha; medium stocking rate [MSR], and 3.8 cows/ha; high stocking rate [HSR]) to graze summer-active and winter-active pastures from late pregnancy to the weaning of their calves. Cow liveweights and growth of calves were recorded as well as estimates of pasture quantity and forage intake. Pasture quantity did not differ in the paddocks grazed by single- and twin-bearing cows during pregnancy, nor effectively did forage intake. Subsequently, intake was higher during mid-lactation especially with twin-rearing cows (25% higher than single-rearing cows at the MSR; 9% at the HSR). However, quantity of pasture decreased for twin-rearing cows and was less than that available to single-rearing cows as lactation progressed. Liveweights of twinrearing cows decreased by 16% from late pregnancy to weaning at the MSR, and by 14% at the HSR, compared to decreases of 1% for single-rearing cows. Twin calves were lighter at birth, had slower growth rates, and were lighter at weaning than single calves. In spite of weaning smaller calves twinning increased the output (kg of calf weaned) per cow and per ha, and increased the efficiency (kg calf weaned per unit of forage eaten by the cow) over single calf production by 46% at the MSR and by 58% at the HSR. Twinning also increased the marginal returns from investment in high input pastures required by the enterprise.
In order to establish the successive rearing system brush-footed butterflies (Lepidoptera : Nymphalidae) were reared in a room. Artificial diets were developed for a year-round rearing. Bu-diet was best to rear these butterflies among 3 kinds of diet used. The freeze-dried host plant leaf powder in diet was better than heat-dried one $(60^{\circ}C)$ in the growth of larvae. The rearing results were best in the diet C/N ratio was 1:1. The 24-hrs old eggs could be stored for 5 days at $15^{\circ}C$ or for 3 days at $5^{\circ}C$ and showed 75% of hatchability. On the other hand, pupae could be stored for maximum 15 days at $15^{\circ}C$ because the emergence of abnormal adults appeared much more as the cold storage period got longer. And the adult was able to be stored until 60 days at refrigerator without relation of nectar-sucking period before cold-storage and storage temperature. Also a simple artificial ovipositing kit was devised by ${\Phi}9$ cm of petri-dish and a female oviposited $278{\pm}27$ of eggs with adding the ether extract of host plant to this kit. The systematic successive rearing method of brush-footed butterflies in a room was completed.
Results of an experiment on the general behavior of rats in order to explore the possible pharmacological actions of Panax Ginseng upon the central nervous system can be summarized as follows: 1) The rats treated with Ginseng-saponin intraperitoneally with the doses of 50 or 100 mg/kg show the decreased sleeping component and increase in lying and grooming component and walking and rearing component of general behavior. 2) There are no difference between control group and saline treated group in pattern of general behavior components. 3) In the Ginseng-saponin treated groups, the amphetamine stimulated walking and rearing component of genenarl behavior are reduced but lying and grooming component are elevated. 4) Ginseng-saponin shows very low acute toxicity in mice. The $LD_{50}$ in mice of 24 hours after intraperitoneal injection was 795 mg/kg. From the above findings, it is to suggest that the Ginseng saponin might stimulate the central nervous system but its mode of action appears to be different from that of amphetamine. And the effects of Ginseng saponin may be varied depending on various experimental situation or condition of animals.
Multipurpose fisheries base was conceptually designed to establish marine ranching system in the coastal waters around Tongyoung, southern sea of Korea. Fisheries base for marine ranching system has integrated various facilities which were required for the process of spawning, rearing, training, releasing, monitoring and catching functions. This base has five steel piles for supporting upper structure and systems. Four steel piles are surrounded by circular net pen made by steel wire, they have the function of the protection against fouling for pile and scouring for bottom soil as well as secondary rearing and short stocking. We can use the last pile to moor a ship and access to the base. Principal structure with steel piles is designed by optimization technique considering design external forces in the coastal waters of return period of 50 years. Design optimization Problem is formulated for this base. Optimal design of multipurpose fisheries base is numerically investigated by sequential quadratic programming method.
This research was conducted to develop and analyze a wireless monitoring system for judging if sick or dead layers (SDL) exist in multi-tier layers battery (MLB) by machine vision, and to evaluate the performance between a wired monitoring system and it. This study used the AP (Access Point), the RS-285 to RS-232 converter, RS-232 to Ethernet converter, PICBASIC board and upgraded lump image processing method to change wired monitoring system into wireless monitoring system. The system was tested at a pilot farm and farm layer house. Results showed that monitoring judgement success rate at a pilot farm on normal cage (without SDL) was 82.3% and that on abnormal cage (with SDL) was 87.5%, respectively. And communication performance test results showed at farm layer house was $700{\sim}900$ kbps while equipments operated. There were dropped slightly than performance of wired monitoring system, however, the quantity was too small to make a significant difference of performance of the controling system developed for wireless communication.
Performance of an airlift bioreactor (ABR) containing the immobilized microorganisms was evaluated in an integrated pilot scale recirculating aquaculture system stocked with Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) at an initial rearing density of $5\%$ and compared to a rotating biological contactor (RBC) for 40 days. The TAN concentration of rearing tank for ABR and RBC were maintained at $0.4\;g/m^3$ and $0.5\;g/m^3,$ respectively, The nitrite nitrogen was completely removed by the ABR. The ABR's aeration was more stable than the RBC's. On the whole, the feasibility of ABR as an aquacultural water treatment unit was recognized.
The demand for traceability of meat and livestock supply chains is growing due to the high-profile incidents of hormonal contamination. E. coli, dioxin, BSE, and antibiotics have been recorded. In this paper, we present blockchain-based poultry information management system design and implementation using Hyperledger Fabric. The proposed system offers accurate, decentralized, immutable and consensus process that promote trust and transparency between stakeholders. The main tasks of the system include the recording of the information associated with poultry rearing (from a hatchery to a farm), status report of the farm activities on a monthly basis. The system can track movement of docks through the supply chain until delivery to the final consumer through the retail outlet. The ability to trace the source of livestock product through all the stages of rearing/production, processing and distribution is essential for ensuring food safety as recall of contaminated product can easily be done thereby increasing consumer confidence.
A rearing experiment of the olive flounder was performed in a set of water-reuse system to test the reusability of the water in culture system with (i) a foam fractionator to separate particles from water and (ii) a culture tank contain mineral particles to filter the metabolic wastes by adsorption and/or decomposition. Two kinds of commercially processed loess particles and a dolomite particle (all 50 ${\mu}$diameter) were tested. The mineral particles were suspended in the culture tank and the water was pumped into the foam fractionator, where the particles were separated and drained out with foam from the system. In a circular culture tank of 4.8 m in diameter with 10 d water, the juvenile olive flounders (23.1 g/fish, 5,555 fish, 128 kg total body weight) were stocked. 90 % of the rearing water was reused and turnover rate of the water in the tank was two times per hour. Water temperature was maintained 17${\pm}$1$^{\circ}C$. At the end of 75 day-experimental rearing, 5,532 flounders, weighing 468 kg, were harvested. An individual flounder grew to 84.6 g of body weight. The final stocking density was 26.0 kg/$m^2$. No diseases were observed during the experiment.

As increasing utilization of Tenebrio molitor for industry, establishing effective conditions of indoor mass-rearing system become more important. For this reason, the aim of this study was to identify the physiological characteristics of Tenebrio molitor in different range of temperatures, photoperiods and rearing densities for mass breeding. As a result, their egg had above 70% hatching rate at $17.5{\sim}27.5^{\circ}C$ and the egg period was shown 5~7 days in $25{\sim}35^{\circ}C$. Consequently, in the consideration of the hatching rates and egg periods, the optimal indoor temperature for rearing was $25{\sim}27.5^{\circ}C$. Furthermore, development period of larvae in mass breeding system was shorter than individual breeding system under all the conditions of temperature. Also, the pupal weight was higher in mass breeding system except for $20^{\circ}C$ and $25^{\circ}C$. Considering elasticity of demand and weight of production, the effective condition was mass-breeding system at $25^{\circ}C$. In photoperiodic condition, the shortest of larval period was 157.35 day in 14L : 10D.
