  • This paper proposes to use the UPnP as a middleware for robots. It describes the advantages of the UPnP by comparing it with the TAO CORBA that was used in a few robot development projects. We select a sample robot architecture, and examine the possible use of the UPnP as a robot middleware. This paper shows how the UPnP architecture can be applied to building a robot in the view of software architecture, message mapping, realtime, priority, network selection, performance, memory footprint, and deployment issues.

  • In this paper, we propose a method dividing effectively the hand and fingers using general webcam. The method executes 4 times empirically preprocessing one to erase noise. First, it erases the overall noise of the image using Gaussian smoothing. Second, it changes from RGB image to HSV color model and YCbCr color model, executes a global static binarization based on the statistical value for each color model, and erase the noise through bitwise-OR operation. Third, it executes outline approximation and inner region filling algorithm using RDP algorithm and Flood fill algorithm and erase noise. Lastly, it erases noise through morphological operation and determines the threshold propositional to the image size and selects the hand and fingers area. This paper compares to existing one color based hand area division method and focuses the noise deduction and can be used to a gesture recognition application.

  • In order to contain as much information as possible in a single image, a wide FOV(Field-Of-View) imaging system is required. The catadioptric imaging system with hyperbolic cylinder mirror can acquire over 180 degree horizontal FOV realtime panorama image by using a conventional camera. Because the hyperbolic cylinder mirror has a curved surface in horizontal axis, the original image acquired from the imaging system has the geometrical distortion, which requires the image processing algorithm for reconstruction. In this paper, the image reconstruction algorithms for two cases are studied: (1) to obtain an image with uniform angular resolution and (2) to obtain horizontally rectilinear image. The image acquisition model of the hyperbolic cylinder mirror imaging system is analyzed by the geometrical optics and the image reconstruction algorithms are proposed based on the image acquisition model. To show the validity of the proposed algorithms, experiments are carried out and presented in this paper. The experimental results show that the reconstructed images have a uniform angular resolution and a rectilinear form in horizontal axis, which are natural to human.

  • The non-contact easy detecting system of nursing person's body vital information and their behaviors monitoring system are developed, which consist of "Kinect" sensor and thermography camera. The "Kinect" sensor can catch the body contour and the body moving behavior, and output their imaging data realtime. The thermography camera can detect respiration state and body temperature, etc. In this study, the practicability of this system was verified.

  • In this paper, we present an efficient tiled stereo display system for tangible meeting. For tangible meeting, it is important to provide immersive display with high resolution image to cover up the field of view and provide to the local user the same environment as that of remote site. To achieve these, a high resolution image needs to be transmitted for reconstruction of remote world, and it should be displayed using a tiled display. However, it is hard to transmit high resolution image in real time due to the limit of network bandwidth, and so we receive multiple images and reconstruct a remote world with received images in advance. Then, we update only a specific area where remote user exists by receiving low resolution image in realtime. We synthesize the transmitted image to the existing environmental map of remote world and display it as a stereo image. For this, we developed a new system which supports GPU based real time warping and blending, automatic feature extraction using machine vision technique.

  • In this paper, imaging processing study obtained from CCD image and thermography image was performed in order to treat easily thermographic data without any risks of personnels who conduct the condition monitoring for the abnormal or failure status occurrable in industrial power plants. This imaging processing is also applicable to the predictive maintenance. For confirming the broad monitoring, a methodology producting single image from the panorama technique was developed no matter how many cameras are employed, including fusion method for discrete configuration for the target. As results, image fusion from quick realtime processing was obtained and it was possible to save time to track the location monitoring in matching the images between CCTV and thermography.

  • Due to the popularity of artificial intelligent, medical image processing using artificial neural network is increasingly attracting the attention of academic and industry researches. Deep learning with a convolutional neural network has been proved to very effective representation of images. However, the training process requires high performance H/W platform. Thus, the realtime learning of a large number of high dimensional samples within low-power devices is a challenging problem. In this paper, we attempt to establish this possibility by presenting a realtime neural network method on Raspberry pi using online sequential extreme learning machine. Our experiments on high-dimensional dataset show that the proposed method records an almost real-time execution.

  • In this paper, a new realtime algorithm called the RTPBTD-HPDAF (Recursive Temporal Profile Base Target Detection with Highest Probability Data Association Filter) is presented for tracking fast moving small targets with IIR (Imaging Infrared) sensor systems. Spatial filter algorithms are mainly used for target in IIR sensor system detection and tracking however they often generate high density clutter due to various shapes of cloud. The TPBTD (Temporal Profile Base Target Detection) algorithm based on the analysis of temporal behavior of individual pixels is known to have good performance for detection and tracking of fast moving target with suppressing clutter. However it is not suitable to detect stationary and abruptly maneuvering targets. Moreover its computational load may not be negligible. The PTPBTD-HPDAF algorithm proposed in this paper for real-time target detection and tracking is shown to be computationally cheap while it has benefit of tracking targets with abrupt maneuvers. The performance of the proposed RTPBTD-HPDAF algorithm is tested and compared with the spatial filter with HPDAF algorithm for run-time and track initiation at real IIR video.
