A Tangible Floating Display System for Interaction

  • A tangible floating display that can provide different perspective views without special glasses being introduced. The proposed system can display perspective floating images in the space in front of the system with the help of concave mirrors. In order to avoid wearing special equipment to interact and deliver the sense of touch, the proposed system adopted an ultrasound focusing technology. For providing an immersive experience to the viewers, the proposed system consists of a tangible floating display system and a multiple-view imaging system for generating three lenticular displays in front of the users.

  • Since the introduction of CRT(Cathode Ray Tube) in the 1950s, display technologies have been developed continuously. Flat panel displays such as PDP(Plasma Display Panel) and LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) were commercialized in the late 1990s, and OLED(Organic Light Emitting Diodes) and Micro-LED(Micro-Light Emitting Diodes) are now being developed and are becoming widespread. In the future, we expect to develop ultra-realistic, flexible, embedded sensor displays. Ultra-realistic display can be applied to AR/VR(Augmented Reality/Virtual Reality) devices and spatial light modulators for holography. The sensor-embedded display can be applied to robots; electronic skin; and security devices, including iris recognition sensors, fingerprint recognition sensors, and tactile sensors. AR/VR technology must be developed to meet technical requirements such as viewing angle, resolution, and refresh rate. Holography requires optical modulation technology that can significantly improve resolution, viewing angle, and modulation method to enable wide-view and high-quality hologram stereoscopic images. For electronic skin, stable mass production technology, large-area arrays, and system integration technologies should be developed.

  • 최근 실감 콘텐츠는 디스플레이 기술의 발달에 따라 다양한 방식으로 적용되고 있으며 높아지는 대중의 요구에 따라 최종적 실감 콘텐츠 기술인 홀로그램이 제한적으로 사용되고 있다. 그러나 대부분의 실감 콘텐츠에는 HMD(head mounted device) 또는 안경 형태의 디바이스가 요구되며 기타의 실감 콘텐츠 디스플레이 기술은 체험 공간에서의 단일 이미지 평면을 사용자에게 전달하므로 단조로운 콘텐츠 체험을 제공한다. 이에 본 논문에서는 다양한 실감 콘텐츠 기술과 홀로그램 기술이 적용된 실감 콘텐츠를 정리하고, 프로젝션 맵핑과 플로팅 홀로그램을 융합한 상호작용 기반의 체험형 실감 콘텐츠 서비스를 제안한다. 프로젝션 맵핑되는 스크린과 다중 플로팅 홀로그램 생성 장치를 통해 사용자 시점에서의 깊이 방향이 확장된 3차원 입체 공간을 제공함과 동시에 사용자의 신체 전체와 부분적 모션을 다수의 센서를 통해 인식가능하게 하여 기존 대비 사용자의 활동 영역이 확장된 상호작용 콘텐츠 서비스가 실현이 가능하도록 설계하였다.

스마트 그리드 응용에 적합한 고속Hybrid MAC 구현에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Implementation of High-Speed Hybrid MAC for Smart Grid Application)

  • In this paper, high-speed Hybrid MAC (Medium Access Control layer) implementation suitable for smart grid applications is researched. MB-OFDM (Multi-Band Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) is considered for high-speed communication method in smart grid application. In this paper, the MAC adopts the distributed network managing method. Also, the MB-OFDM merit of high-speed transfer rate of up to 480Mbps must be supported. Hence, this paper presents an efficient hardware-software integration (co-design) method in order to realize a high- speed transmission, and a realizing method of distribution network. Finally, MAC performance and reliability based on MB-OFDM PHY (PHYsical layer) are confirmed through simulation and emulation.

  • The goal of telecommunication may be to enable the participants in distant places to communicate with each other in an environment as if they were in the same room. This paper introduces the reason why realistic audio display is useful in telecommunication, reviews some approaches to its implementation, and proposes an audio teleconference model which realizes a two-way telecommunication with realistic sensations using binaural and auralization techniques.

  • A series of images were displayed on an OLED display placed within a digital still camera body to characterize the aging of the OLED display in a realistic environment and with an image set that matches actual consumer usage as closely as possible. The aging characteristics of the OLED display were measured and shown to meet the requirements of a digital still camera application by a wide margin.

  • CRTs can survive in the long run for TV applications, because of their realistic reproduction of live images. CRT technology development has to be directed towards form factor, but also attention has to be paid to the form design of sets. The CRT is the only technology allowing a doubly curved screen surface.

  • 사진 기반의 가상 현실 노출 치료 요법(Virtual Reality Exposure Therapy)은 다양한 정신 질환의 평가 및 치료 연구에 사용되어 왔다. 그러나 최근에 보급되기 시작한 스마트폰 기반의 헤드 마운트 디스플레이(Head-mounted display, HMD)를 활용한 가상 현실 노출 치료 연구는 거의 없었다. 본 연구에서는 스마트폰 기반의 가상현실 기기를 활용하여 환경 촬영부터 노출까지 누구나 쉽게 사용할 수 있는 실제 사진 기반의 가상 현실(Photo-realistic VR) 노출 시스템을 제안하고, 32명의 정상군을 대상으로 시험적으로 적용하고자 한다. 본 연구 결과에 따르면 개발된 스마트폰 기반의 시스템은 실내/실외, 친숙한/친숙하지 않은 환경들에서 피험자의 감정 변화를 이끌어내었다. 이에 대한 의의와 모바일 기반의 가상현실 노출 치료 시스템의 장점에 대하여 본 연구에서 논의하였다.
