  • This paper proposes a method to insert virtual objects into a real video stream based on feature tracking and camera pose estimation from a set of single-camera video frames. To insert or modify 3D shapes to target video frames, the transformation from the 3D objects to the projection of the objects onto the video frames should be revealed. It is shown that, without a camera calibration process, the 3D reconstruction is possible using multiple images from a single camera under the fixed internal camera parameters. The proposed approach is based on the simplification of the camera matrix of intrinsic parameters and the use of projective geometry. The method is particularly useful for augmented reality applications to insert or modify models to a real video stream. The proposed method is based on a linear parameter estimation approach for the auto-calibration step and it enhances the stability and reduces the execution time. Several experimental results are presented on real-world video streams, demonstrating the usefulness of our method for the augmented reality applications.

  • This paper proposes a digital algorithm for gray-scale/color image segmentation of real-time video signals and a cell-network-based implementation architecture in state-of-the-art CMOS technology. Through extrapolation of design and simulation results we predict that about 300$\times$300 pixels can be integrated on a chip at 100nm CMOS technology, realizing very high-speed segmentation at about 1600sec per color image. Consequently real-time color-video segmentation will become possible in near future.

  • Live streaming is a method to provide media service by sending recoded media to a user's video player. In order to provide video and audio contents in real-time for a large number of users simultaneously, live streaming compatible protocols such as RTMP (Real Time Messaging Protocol), HLS (Http Live Streaming), are required. In this paper, we analyzed vulnerability of paid live streaming services with the captured packets from the applications used by six major OTT (over-the-top) companies in Korea supporting live streaming services. We found that streaming channels were not encrypted and access control mechanisms were not properly used. Thus, guest users can freely use paid live streaming services.

  • With the fast development of information and communication technologies, video streaming services and applications are increasing rapidly. However, the network condition is volatile. In order to provide users with better quality of service, it is necessary to develop an accurate and low-complexity model for Quality of Experience (QoE) prediction of time-varying video. Memory effects refer to the psychological influence factor of historical experience, which can be taken into account to improve the accuracy of QoE evaluation. In this paper, we design subjective experiments to explore the impact of Short-Term Memory (STM) on QoE. The experimental results show that the user's real-time QoE is influenced by the duration of previous viewing experience and the expectations generated by STM. Furthermore, we propose analytical models to determine the relationship between intrinsic video quality, expectation and real-time QoE. The proposed models have better performance for real-time QoE prediction when the video is transmitted in a fluctuate network. The models are capable of providing more accurate guidance for improving the quality of video streaming services.

  • The modem multimedia applications which are video Processor, video conference or video phone and so forth require real time processing. Because of a large amount of image data, those require high compression performance. In this paper, the proposed image processing encoder was designed by using wavelet transform encoding. The proposed filter block can process image data on tile high speed because of composing individual function blocks by parallel and compute both highpass and lowpass coefficient in the same clock cycle. When image data is decomposed into multiresolution, the proposed scheme needs external memory and controller to save intermediate results and it can operate within 33㎒.

  • Motion compensation always produces the principal bottleneck in the real-time high quality video applications. Therefore, a fast dedicated hardware is needed to perform motion compensation in the real-time video applications. In many video encoding methods, the frames are partitioned into blocks of Pixels. In general, motion compensation predicts present block by estimating the motion from previous frame. In motion compensation, the higher pixel accuracy shows the better performance but the computing complexity is increased. In this paper, we studied an architecture of motion compensator suitable for H.264/AVC encoder that supports quarter-pixel accuracy. The designed motion compensator increases the throughput using transpose array and 3 6-tap Luma filters and efficiently reduces the memory access. The motion compensator is described in VHDL and synthesized in Xilinx ISE and verified using Modelsim_6.1i. Our motion compensator uses 36-tap filters only and performs in 640 clock-cycle per macro block. The motion compensator proposed in this paper is suitable to the areas that require the real-time video processing.

  • Various video conferencing and collaboration applications have emerged due to the global epidemic of new viral infections. In addition to real-time video conferencing, video conferencing applications provide features such as chat and file sharing on various platforms. Because various personal information is stored through functions such as chatting, file and screen sharing, these video conferencing applications are the major target of analysis from a digital forensic investigation. In the case of applications that provide cross-platform, the form of stored data is different depending on the platform. Therefore, to utilize data of video conferencing application for forensic investigation, preliminary research on artifacts stored by platform is required. In this paper, we used the video conferencing applications GoToWebinar and GoToMeeting and analyzed the artifacts generated. As a result, we list the main data from a digital forensic investigation. We identify data stored for each platform provided by GoToWebinar and GoToMeeting and organize artifacts that can estimate user behavior. Also, we classify the data that can be acquired according to the role and environment within the video conference.

  • Content security and privacy protection are important issues in emerging network-based video surveillance applications. Especially, satisfying both real-time constraint and energy efficiency with embedded system-based video sensors is challenging since the battery-operated sensors need to compress and protect video content in real-time. In this paper, we propose a multicore-based solution to compress and protect video surveillance data, and evaluate the effectiveness of the solution in terms of both real-time constraint and energy efficiency. Based on the experimental results with MPEG2/AES software, we confirm that the multicore-based solution can improve the energy efficiency of a singlecore-based solution by a factor of 30 under the real-time constraint.

  • Emerging high-speed next-generation Internet is enabling immersive media communication systems and applications to realize geographically distributed team collaborations while overcoming the limit of distance and time. Focusing on the reliable real-time delivery of 3D (i.e., stereo) video among corresponding parties, in this paper, key schemes for stereo video processing/display and reliable transport of stereo video packets over high-speed Internet are designed and implemented. The performance of proposed stereo video delivery system is evaluated both by emulating various network situations for quantitative comparison and by transmitting over real-world Internet up to the speed of around 100 Mbps. The results demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed system in supporting the desired immersive communication.

  • We propose a system that allows three dimensional manipulation of face in video. The 3D face manipulation of the proposed system overlays the 3D face model with the user 's manipulation on the face region of the video frame, and it allows 3D manipulation of the video in real time unlike existing applications or methods. To achieve this feature, first, the 3D morphable face model is registered with the image. At the same time, user's manipulation is applied to the registered model. Finally, the frame image mapped to the model as texture, and the texture-mapped and deformed model is rendered. Since this process requires lots of operations, parallel processing is adopted for real-time processing; the system is divided into modules according to functionalities, and each module runs in parallel on each thread. Experimental results show that specific parts of the face in video can be manipulated in real time.
